While often overlooked, the book of Jude remains as relevant today as the time it was written. God has commanded His beloved church to do the necessary work of contending for the faith in a world of unbelief, and as we do, He will keep us from falling into the same deception. In this 7-session study from Jackie Hill Perry, dive into themes of being called, loved, and kept, and learn how to point others to Jesus in grace and truth. We serve others well when we share the whole gospel with them, not just the parts deemed attractive by our culture. Discover your God-given identity in a world of deception. See how this small, obscure book in Scripture still speaks to the church today. Video Session 1: Jude 1-2 (15:22)—In this opening session, Jackie points out that the Christians to whom Jude writes his letter are much like us today. Like those early believers, we are in need of mercy, peace, and love in order to contend for the faith. Session 2: Jude 3-4 (15:31)—Jude writes out of love but confronts the problems among believers. He appeals to Christians to contend for the faith in love among false teachers, those who twist the Scriptures, and those who are ungodly. Session 3: Jude 5-11 (17:10)—We see examples from the Old Testament of false teachers and those who did not believe. There are certain character traits among those who rebel against God and suffer the resulting consequences. Session 4: Jude 14-15 (19:08)—This session reminds believers that God will judge all. God is aware of all that we are doing. The ungodly are no different from us except for God’s grace and kindness. We are to contend for the faith due to the urgency we sense for others to repent. People need the whole gospel. Session 5: Jude 20-23 (13:45)—Christians are always searching for advice on how to enter into difficult conversations. What we need first are instructions on how to live. Jude tells believers what they need to know to stay anchored in their faith and share biblical answers to life’s tough questions. Session 6: Jude 24-25 (20:21)—Jude ends his letter with praise and focus on God. God is going to be faithful to keep you, and to keep you standing because of Jesus. Jude reminds believers that God is the only God and our Savior. All glory, majesty, dominion, and authority are God’s alone for all time. Session 7: Wrap-up (8:06)—Jude is a small book but is full of information and power. God has a lot to say to His people through Jude as they contend for the faith, because the way we contend for the faith matters.

This study of Jude is incredibly impactful! I really loved learning more about the Old Testament references, the application of false teachers within the church and diving deeply into such a short book. The videos that accompany the study have almost a poetic, spoken word feel! Very different from past studies I’ve participated in.
4.5 rounded up! I’m only docking half points because some of the questions/prompts were confusing or hard to understand, but overall this was a great study! The book of Jude is so relevant to us today. This guide helped so how much good stuff is really jammed into a short 25 verses!
The content was really good, although I'm not totally convinced we learned about contending for the faith in TODAY'S culture (though perhaps it's not particularly different). I felt the study could have been quite a bit briefer, often feeling she was just belaboring the point to exhaustion. Many of the study days took upwards of an hour, which is quite a while to dedicate to this effort for six weeks, 4-5 days a week. I also felt cross-referenced to death a lot, both being expected to know my Bible super well ("give an example from scripture outside of Jude"), but to also need some basic concepts explained to minutia. You spend more time outside Jude's letter than in it. Overall, I thought it was a good study, well-written, accessible, insightful and quality, orthodox teaching. But many times, I had to force myself to read/work it, often begrudgingly. I would read more of her books and lectures, but I probably wouldn't seek out more of her studies like this.
Wow! This is one of the most thorough Bible Studies I have ever done. I loved her application questions as they were so relevant to each topic. Considering that this was 1 book of the Bible with 1 Chapter, I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of the questions. I loved being reminded how I am called, Loved, and Kept by Jesus. Thank you Jackie for a great book!
an absolutely INCREDIBLE Bible study. just wow. truly. i literally loved every single part and especially loved how much i had to bounce around the Bible because all the different verses given each day. 12/10 recommend!!
**My review is based only on the workbook- I was given the workbook as a gift and it did not include the video teaching.** This is one of the best Bible studies I have worked through and certainly the best study marketed to women (although it would be appropriate for both genders). JHP leads us through the book of Jude verse by verse. Although Jude is one of the lesser understood books of the Bible and contains many obscure references, the message is clear and incredibly rich. For every verse in Jude, you will look at multiple other passages in Scripture that explore the same language and theological concepts. Highly recommend and would love to do this study again someday with a group and view the videos.
Though very in-depth, I feel that Jackie missed the mark with this study. There is a lot of cross referencing and open ended questions which I don’t mind, but I’m left feeling somewhat lost about how to go forward. Her study guide is called “contending for the faith in todays culture”, yet I don’t feel as though we have been fully equipped with the knowledge of doing that, *specifically* in todays culture. She does go more in depth about the Old Testament references, and what it means for today, but I wish she had gone more in depth about the things IN TODAYS culture that we should watch out for, and HOW we can contend for the faith more. HOW to recognize false teachers today, what they might be preaching, etc. There really was no layout or even some sort of conclusion in the wrap up on how to go about this. So I’m left feeling somewhat disappointed. I will say that this study will help you not only understand Jude’s letter a bit more in depth, but also other parts of the Bible that will be frequently cross referenced.
This bible study covers one of the shortest books in the New Testament and one that many are not familiar with. In all 25 verses of biblical text, Jackie Hill Perry manages to pull an incredible amount of detail out of this short book.
The study, which is not an easy read, explains each verse in context and with a large number of references to other passages in the Bible, both Old and New Testament. The book of Jude is a letter admonishing the non-believers in Christ and warning Christians, both early and modern, to keep up the faith. However, both the book of the Bible and Perry's study end on a hopeful note of God's love.
Recommended for those who want and are ready for a deep, thoughtful study.
This was a great study to do with a women’s group. The videos that go with the readings were good, and the separation of the different days for the work was nice. It sparked many good discussions as well. It took me WAY too long to finish this, but that was definitely my fault. My priorities and motivation were not right. I think this study is very relevant to our world today, and I would recommend it to anyone trying to figure out what tools and knowledge they need to be able to stand up for what they believe in and not fall into the traps of false teachings.
I’m not sure if this technically counts since it’s a devotional, but it’s a book that I took slowly and really enjoyed going through with the women’s Bible study group at church. It was such a timely study as it focuses on Jude’s call to contend for the faith in a culture that does anything but that. Who knew you could dive so deep into 25 verses in Scripture? I enjoyed this & highly recommend it, as well as the companion videos.
Excellent in-depth study of Jude. Perry breaks down the short book verse by verse and helped me truly understand what the brother of Jesus was trying to relay to believers then and now. As believers, we must be on guard, stay alert, and contend for the faith while we are being kept and held in the love of our Savior.
SO SO GOOD. This was a major deep dive into a very short book of the Bible. Jackie is so good at dissecting every word to give you a broader understanding of what was said and why it had to be said. I'll read anything she touches.
I rarely do Bible study guides anymore, but this one was excellent. It was Scripture centered, deep, and challenging. It renewed my love for Jesus and His Word and challenged me to "contend for the faith."
Jackie Perry is a gifted author. She admits she was far from the Lord as a teenager, and once she was saved she became a dedicated studier of the Word. This very thorough 7 study week teaches so much! Jude s only one small chapter, but has so much depth.
One of the best Bible studies I have done in a while. It really challenged me to look at myself, reflect on my motivations, and my own relationship with the Lord.
Jackie Hill Perry does a fantastic job with this Bible study. Our group had great discussions and enjoyed learning more about Jude. This is a great study.
