After his father’s death and he is forced to move to a remote village, Wind thinks his life is over. He's given up on a future outside of a place where the livestock outnumber the humans. That is until a full-ride scholarship offer brings him into the city and into the path of the one person he never wanted to see again.
As a teenager, Storm realized money couldn’t fix everything. And every day since then, he wishes it could. Breaking Wind’s heart turns out to be the worst thing he’d ever done, and he knows Wind hates him. He promises himself to make it right—but before he can, Wind and his mother disappear leaving Storm feeling empty.
Then Wind starts attending Storm's university and Storm grows a new determination.
But can Wind look away from his hatred long enough to forgive Storm? Can Wind let go and let Storm in?
I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I yelled, and I enjoyed every minute of this emotional roller coaster!
Readers that also watch Thai BL series will be able to appreciate this on a level that other BL readers will not fully understand. There are so many nods to toxic behaviors and cliché tropes from Thai BLs – specifically Thai university BLs – that you really have to watch them to understand all the layers that make this story special.
Some classic bits to look forward to: ~one-sided love ~toxic female “friend” ~at least one awful parent ~emotional beach scene ~taking care of a sick partner ~stuck in an elevator ~partner hair drying scene ~sharing music on a long bus ride/sleeping on a partner’s shoulder
I loved Storm and Wind’s love story; first their angsty enemies vibe all the way through to their steamy HEA ending. Their friend group was endearing and I am excited that they will be leads in their own future love stories.
Now, let’s talk about that female “friend”. Normally I would be upset that one of the two significant female characters in this story was a toxic human, but in this instance I am not. Without Gift’s very criminal behavior, Storm wouldn’t have been able to call out the ridiculous trend in Thai BLs of female characters getting away without any real consequences for bad behavior.
"I think she watches too many dramas where the females do these irresponsible things and get away with it." #IYKYK. Thai BL fans are very over this trend, so it is nice to have it called out, even if it is in a novel instead of a drama.
I'm sad to say I can't think of a single positive thing to write about this story. The plot was almost nonexistant and boring, the characters were extremely flat to a point where their feelings for each other just came out of nowhere and made no sense, the only same-age female character was depicted as a terrible human and criminal and the whole book was full of clishés and super unoriginal plot devices. I absolutely hated that the author added thai words in the dialogue, but I understand why it was necessary because if you're marketing this as a thai BL without adding any explicitly thai cultural elements, language is all you got left. I have no idea what the title is supposed to refer to other than maybe the female lead's storyline but that would be ridiculous. All in all, this read like a low quality wattpad fanfiction written by a teenager. Maybe it is one.
Truly enjoyed this book and will recommend it to anyone that likes BL stories. I particularly liked that it did not need to have super explicit scenes to express the love the two main characters have for each other. Can't wait for next installment.
Definitely had a great time reading and definitely want to read the rest for the characters. Some translations weren’t the best and some details were missed storytelling wise. That being said I did like the story, the characters, and would read it again.
This is very forgettable, the Thai portions aren’t translated so unless your like me and look them up to understand the context, it’ll just throw you off. The characters were also boring and I couldn’t really tell who was who at some point.
