I never thought I’d be writing the words “Avatar the Last Airbender meets Haunting Adeline” but that’s truly the best way to describe the plot of Fate of Water and Wind.

Thank you to the author for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.

Tropes:
-Enemies to Lovers
-Fated Mates
-Hidden Identities
-Stalker Romance
-Predator/Prey

There’s a lot to like about this book. First, I love a book with completely platonic male/female best friends.

Second, I am hot for fae with fire and shadows.

Third, I can tell that the author put a lot of thought into the primary conflict and the characterization of the key players. Lashell Rain has it all planned out.

Fourth, the author’s passion for the story and her characters shines through. There is life to this story.

Fifth, the overarching plot is engaging and thus far rewarding.

Sixth, this isn’t a story about a super powerful teenage girl surrounded by 500 year old men and falling in love with one of them. They’re all adults here and I absolutely love that.

Here’s where I struggle with this book.

-The book is written in first person from multiple POVs, this makes it seem much more YA than it really is.

-The pacing isn’t quite right, especially at the beginning of the book. Things happen too quickly without the flare and spectacle that I’ve come to expect from reading fantasy. This really took me out of the story several times. If it wasn’t an ARC, I probably would have DNFed due to pacing.

-I love foreshadowing, don’t get me wrong, but it was a little heavy handed. I am pretty confident that I know what the big twist is going to be and I’m disappointed that it wasn’t revealed as part of the cliffhanger. I know a lot of people hate cliffhangers so maybe this will be a plus for you. There is something comforting about reading a story knowing what’s going to happen.

Edit: After reading many of the other reviews and seeing many that question if this is truly enemies to lovers or stating that she ends up with the wrong dude, I have to rescind my assessment that the foreshadowing was too heavy handed 😂🤣. Guess I’ll have to read book 2 to see if I’m right.

Upon beginning to read this book, I noticed something that tugged at the corner of my mind every time that I read it. Well, I noticed two things. The first being that this book is not what I thought it was, and the second being that this is literally a fairy version of Avatar: The Last Airbender (ATLA).

Now, what I am about to discuss requires understanding of ATLA, but let it be known that ATLA was released in 2005, and this book, 2023. In no way, shape, or form am I insinuating that this author copied that show, but it is obvious that there was some inspiration.

"My grandmother used to tell me stories about the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the War." -Avatar: The Last Airbender Introduction.

1) That is the introduction to the show, and this is a quote from the book, "For a hundred years, Ember believed the chosen was gone, killed in the war between Heavensreach and Ember." Now, the version from the book is much shorter and concise, but the meaning is still there. A war that has lasted for 100 years, a nation that wields fire, a nation that wields air, and a chosen one to bring about peace.

2) Furthermore, one of the main characters in Avatar, Zuko, who happens to be the antagonist during the first season, is an exiled prince of the Fire Nation. He also happens to be scarred, due to burns. Kade, the Ember prince, also happens to have "marred skin-burns."

3) One of the main characters in Avatar, Katara (and Sokka, her brother), have absent/dead parents. Their mother was a healer, and their father is a warrior. Emelyn, the main character in Fate of Water and Wind, also has absent parents, because they are dead. Her mother was a healer, and her father was a warrior. The only difference here is that Katara and Sokka's father is still alive, but absent.

4) Aang, the character in Avatar who is the Avatar, is inexperienced when it comes to his powers. He struggles to use any element at first that is not his native element, air. Emelyn, the Peacebringer, is also inexperienced when it comes to using something that is not water.

5) During the show, Team Avatar (that's what the friends are called) discover the Northern Air Temple is inhabited by a group of non-airbenders. At first, this makes Aang angry because this is his ancestral home and people aren't really respecting it. But he then gains a new appreciation for them because they are trying to revive his culture. In the book, Ace has long thought that he was the last Sky Elf and has tried to keep his culture alive. Then, he discovers that there still are people who are part of his culture who are alive and trying to do the same. Yes, I know that this one isn't an exact match but it is similar.

6) Kade, the antagonist, has a brother, and a sister. Zuko in ATLA only had a sister. However, in both of these works, the "chosen one" has escaped from the Fire Prince (Zuko and Kade), and their younger sister (Azula and Valla respectively) have been sent out to finish the job. Also, both princes are panicking because there is no telling what horrors their sisters will inflict on the "chosen one". Another thing to add on this point is that in ATLA, Zuko had a mentor in his Uncle Iroh. In the novel, this archetype seems to be found in his younger brother Rhet.

7) In ATLA, there is a secret island that is guarded by the Fire Nation that the characters go to at one point for more knowledge. During this novel, there is also a secret island guarded by a fire-type being.

The next points are not related to the comparison between the two works, but rather some of the tropes and devices used.

1) At one point, Emelyn almost dies, and then the next chapter, she has raging sex with another character. I'm all for a quick recovery but that seems way too fast to be real, even for a magic-wielding fae.

2) This book has the insta-love trope. Emelyn meets a character and then claims probably three chapters later that "[they] were always [her] choice."

2/5.

DNF at 20% - I adored the adopted sibling relationship and the sign language in this. But things are happening because of plot reasons and I am not at a point where I can suspend my logic but just vibing with what is going on.

If you like ATLA, there is a lot that's familiar here and you might enjoy this!

Thanks to R&R Booktour for the opportunity.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review so here it goes! I took the authors advice and read the prequel novellas before reading this ARC and I highly recommend. The prequels give insight to the main characters background as well as some world building to set the stage for the main story. I’d give this book a solid 3.5/4 stars out of 5. Starting with the positives here are some things I enjoyed: The world was creative full of different species of creatures such as fae, dryads and orcs each with there own unique powers. I loved the elemental bending some of the fae had, it kept it really interesting in the battle and training scenes and also reminded me of avatar. I loved the sibling type bond between Emelyn and Ash and laughed at their jokes and felt for them through their adversities. Emelyn as a whole was a strong FMC and I liked how sassy she was with the men who had a thing for her and giving her nicknames (kade and crow I’m looking at you!). Now there were a few things I didn’t enjoy: the pacing. Sometimes it felt like things were happening way too fast when they could have been explored more or the tension could have built a bit longer. There were pivotal scenes in battle that I think could have been told in greater detail so we as the reader understand the importance of it. I also didn’t love how fast Em or Ash came to terms with their feelings for their prospective significant others. Maybe it’s the enemies to lovers addict in me but I wanted more of a slow struggle for Em to fall for Crow. There were a few moments that I wanted to savor but felt like they were cut too short. Also near the end I felt like the cliffhanger happened too fast, I wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about it ending so abruptly.
Overall, I really loved this book and the world Lashell has created and look forward to the next installments in the series!

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review. What a great start to what felt like a truly adult fantasy romance series! I could NOT put this down! I did read the introduction novella prior to this first full-length novel, which I’m glad I did, but I don’t know that you necessarily need to. I will say it’s quick and I think you’ll be able to get the full depth of the character relationships better in book 1 if you do.

I absolutely loved this world that Lashell Rain has created and the story that is unfolding. Are there elements that have been used in other books/series? Yes. But this still just felt new and fresh to me. Fae, winged elves, dryads, orcs, dragons, along with elemental bending abilities amongst creatures…it’s got a little bit of everything going on in here! And of course, the spice was quite good! Nice amount sprinkled all throughout. There is so much more left to tell and the buildup has really locked me in in a way that’s hard for fantasy romance to do! I love the genre, but to do it in a way that incorporates this much adult content can be difficult at times and I thought she did an excellent job with it. Also, the exploration of a co-ed friendship as the main characters was just so refreshing to read about. We don’t get that very often. I honestly didn’t like it at first (mainly because I loved the idea of the two MCs together), but as time went on, it actually became one of my favorite things about this story.

I also find it incredibly fascinating about the time jumps in this story. Like the MCs are at least 100 years old! So the relationships are not between some super young girl and a much older man like a lot of fantasy romance books tend to be (I read and enjoy those too, so that isn’t a call out, just a comparison).

I fell in love with Emelyn and Ace in the novella so I only fell in love with them even more in this first FL novel. I’m such a sucker for winged men so Ace was so easy to love from go. Not to mention he is an absolute sweetheart but also a fierce and loyal friend and brother. Emelyn is a great FMC, all the characteristics I look for and love. However, I was hoping she was going to start using/learning her other abilities a little more in this first book. But I’m sure we’ll get more of that in the next book. I also would have liked to have gotten just a little more insight into Kade’s intentions with Emelyn because things with him did not go the way I had thought they were going to go at all 🫢 Also, absolutely loved the 1st person POVs the whole way through, they just make stories even better.

I do wish this first book could have been a little longer just because I was really enjoying it! I would absolutely recommend if you are looking for a new and fresh adult fantasy romance series to get sucked into and don’t mind waiting for the next installments to come out! 💕🤙🏼

What new fantasy!
Eme and her best friend Ace has been on the move for years. Ever since her village and Ace’s village have been destroyed by the Fire Fae. When they find out Eme is more then she thinks she is, they have to move because now everyone wants her.

This is a great fantasy. Almost feels like if Avatar the Last Airbender meets Fae. Everyone bends an element and the Peacebringer can bend them all. The book is fast pace and the spice is great but definitely does not over take the book.

We get different POVs from multiple different people and Eme get multiple love interest.

This book is more character based then world building which is great. We might get more world building in the next book but this one did leave off on a cliff hanger so I’m excited to start the next one.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It is a very fast paced fantasy/romance story that is so action packed. The reason I didn’t give it 4 or more stars is because sometimes it felt too fast paced and it missed out on subtleties and nuances that could have enhanced the plot as well as the characters relationships with each other. However, I loved how there wasn’t hundreds of pages of building up to the action and instead the reader is thrust right into the conflicts. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

"He was the preditor, and I was the prey."

I got this book as an arc, and I have been in a major reading slump, which is why I have only finished it now. I really loved this book, I felt that it was fast-paced once i managed to get into it, so I'm excited for the second book, especially after the ending of this one. There is so much I need to know about. I loved the characters in this book so much, and I can't wait to further read about them in the next book.

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This one was pretty good! There is definitely what feels like a good bit of inspiration from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series but this does a good job of taking something similar and still making its own story. There are times where I was wasn’t fully sure who is supposed to be the “main” character of this one since the point of view changes a bit but the characters are all very interesting in their own right. I’m really looking forward to keep up with this series and seeing where it goes!

I recieved this book as an ARC for free, in exchange for an honest review.

I beleive that this storyline could have been wrapped up in this book. Like I feel like we didn't even hit the climax of the book. We are right in front of it.

There were many plot points that lead to no where. The whole mate thing was kinda just thrown in there. No explaintion until the LAST CHAPTER.

While I was reading this book, I was just befuddled. I had no clue what was happened or anything.

I did at one point think that Emelyn would end up with Kade. And I'm a little dissapointed that she didn't.

I will not be continuing this series.

I received the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I started this yesterday and couldn’t put it down! Love the characters! though the plot of who it seems is her mate went in a different direction then I was expecting though it still seems there may be a twist in future book. I was hoping for more and wasn’t ready for the ending which made me scream with the cliff hanger and I NEED the next book NOW! Trying to be discreet and not give so

I received this as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I normally would not have finished this book. It often felt redundant and repetitive. There are several plot points that make no sense or hit dead ends. The similarity to Avatar is shocking even to me as a person who has never seen it. I was very disappointed because I thought this would be a super romantic ACOTAR reimagining. I unfortunately did not get that.

The multiple points ot view were confusing. I believe if she stuck to just Ace and Eme, this story could have been a lot better.

After reviewing an ARC copy of this book I was eager to read it! We travel with MFC Emelyn and MMC Ace. Best friends from childhood, they have spent their lives hiding, fighting and surviving.

I really enjoyed this book, couldn’t stop once I started and i ended up completing it within the evening. The author has a way of drawing you in and wanting more.

World building is nicely done, the characters are introduced and you learn to love them. I was starting to think this book was going to be enemies to lovers but then pushes more towards fated mate. However the author has left us on a pretty big cliffhanger and honestly I think this could go either direction.

There is definitely a lot of secrets kept hidden and hopefully some big reveals to come in the next book.

My only negative points are it was a little rushed and hard to figure out through the first few chapters, however this is pretty common with a lot of books I have read. It definitely keeps you interested and at no point did I think I would DNR.

The other negative would be possible TW towards the start when Emelyn was almost assaulted.

I rate this book at 4.5 and will definitely read the second. Most likely these books will end up on my physical bookshelf.

ARC review ✨

This book has everything that I love - Fae, romance, fantasy and so much more. This was like a spicy version of Avatar and I’m loving it

I struggled with the world building in the first few chapters but it slowly came together! I do wish it was slightly longer because there were a few things that felt rushed in a way. As for Emelyn and Crow, I wish there was more of their relationship. It kind of felt like it went from 0 to 100 real quick. I’m not going to lie, I thought she’d end up with Kade BUT there’s book two so we’ll have to see what happens.

Overall I’m giving it 4 stars because I really enjoyed the read and as I said earlier, it’s got everything I love 🫶🏽

"I'm tired of running. I'm tired of hiding, tired of death. I want peace and now I'm the one responsibly for delivering it to this world?

Fate of Water And Wind is the first novel in the New Adult Fantasy romance series, The Osparia, following the journey of two best friends, Ace and Emelyn, as they are thrust into the heart of a 100 year war with no one to turn to and secrets piling up around them.

One hundred years ago, the empire of Ember rose up to take control of the realm of Osparia. Ace and Emelyn lost everything at the start of the war and have been forced to travel constantly to avoid capture by the emperor who has ruthless been out to destory the last of the remaining sky elves. When a truth is spoken aloud that forces Emelyn to embrace a new destiny, the world has their eyes on the two friends. Looking for somewhere to turn to, a stranger filled with shadows and mysteries offer assistance and an opportunity to join the rebellion. Yet as both join both friends are drawn into this new world, they quickly learn their hearts and lives are at risk...and one mistake can cost them everything.

I really enjoyed the platonic relationship between Ace and Emelyn. Their bond and connection is strong and helps tie to story together. At the same time there have distinct narratives that were easy to dive into. I liked how Emelyn stood strong amidst the pressure she was under and her willingness to turn to others. Ace was endearing and seeing him find himself was a pleasure.

We also get the introduction to other characters that really helped develop the story from Kaden, the delicious morally grey character that I have suspicions about to Crow the mysterious shadow character who's POV is to die for if you love romance. Crow and Eme were such fun and I lived for it! There is a lot of mystery behind him and I am so intrigued! I felt both Crow and Kaden added a lot to the story that gripped me and I want more of them in the series to come.

"I wished you could see how even in the dark, you shine brighter than any star."

This book does contain spice from both characters. I would place the spice around 2 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There are a few scenes spread throughout that are well written. I will say I tend to prefer my spice to be between the two lover interests so I much preferred Eme's spicy over Ace's.

Now in terms of plot and world I really like the lore growing in this book. There is such promise in what is being presented and I am really curious to see it grow. At the same time, this book appears to borrow heavily off of Avatar the Last Airbender , down to the waterbender losing her priceless necklace. I like the incorporation of the fae but it's important to note this.

In terms of the plot, I felt things were often too rushed for me. I loved where the story was going but things moved so quickly that I really didn't have a chance to settle with the characters. One moment the character is angry at someone for their betrayal but quickly forgives without much of any change pages later. I feel things needed to slow down to have a bigger impact. That said, I have a lot of theories about threads that were teased at that make me incredibly curious for book 2. Not much happens here but it boast a lot to come in book 2, especially with that ending!

If you're looking for a fantasy romance with an excellent friendship, promising world, and interesting lore this is a series to check out! I have hopes for this one as it grows!

Thank you to the author for the ARC!

I have received an eARC from the Author and this is my honest opinion.

3.5⭐ rounded to 4 for the great ideas for the main characters.
2.5🌶️

This was a fun and quick read. There were things that I liked and some things that I liked less.

Let me tell you the good part first :)
What I love, love, love about this book is the platonic relationship between Eme and Ace. You could feel that they would move mountains for each other but then again, when needed, they would gladly let each other go in order to find their happiness. That was just amazing! I have to admit, not something that I have seen in a fantasy romance book (or in any book that I have read so far) and, again, I loooove that. This is a refreshing perspective of the heroine's story and is still highly debated whether a woman and a man can be just friends...we'll see :)
What is also interesting is how we get to the love interest, Emes' journey to him is pretty wavy and just when you think "yeah, here he is'' ... nope ... next :) so that part was very on edge :) but then again there is a lot more to happen in the next book, so....I don't know... maybe I`m still wrong guessing here :)

Also, the diversity and the inclusivity in the story are soooo heart-warming. Ace's character (his kind) uses sign language, which is such a strong moment in the book. The representation of the separate language and the acceptance of it as a part of the highly functional system was just - chefs kiss. Loved it.

Element based magic system and the "chosen one" part of the story reminds a lot of the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender intertwined with the fae world, so if you liked Avatar, you will like this one :)

Now, what I liked less...
I can't say that the story is the most original one, we even have the Fire fae as the enemies. Most of the tropes that are in the fantasy romance genre are checked. I don't mind a retelling or an inspired story (Avatar is one of my favorite shows), the thing that was missing was 50-100 pages more, so the story could have been a bit longer and with a bit more of character development. The story is fast-paced, mainly plot-driven, and interesting to read, but for me, because of the fast pace and the shortness, some of the characters lacked a bit more depth, and connecting to them was a bit of a challenge in some of the parts. I couldn't connect with them with a few short dialogues, especially where the love tension is set. Generally, the whole story is fast-paced and some of the scenes and the tropes felt rushed.

There is a prequel to this book and it would be useful reading it before this one, but still, you could do without it, you can catch up.

Now, this is just the start of the series and the cliffhanger set my expectations high for the next book which I will gladly read as soon as we see it published :)

Wow! Just wow! I received an ARC and had to finish it in a day. Amazon wouldn’t let me review it yet which is boo for them. This book has everything you could ever want! World building, check, lore, check, so many beautiful characters you can fall in love with, check, heat, check. I recommend reading the prequel but it is not necessary as the author does an excellent recap before we get into the nitty gritty. Eme and Ace are beautiful together. I enjoyed watching them grow together. Rarely do you have a fantasy romance that focuses on building more than romantic relationships and it makes you deeply care for their success. You will feel emotional pain in this book but it’s worth it. So much suspense in this book and I have so many theories. I am grateful this is not necessarily a slow burn romance as there is tons of heat and passion. God, I have so many questions. I don’t want to spoil but man this is going to be forever for this next book. I loved watching your writing grow since The Promised Princess. Lashell Rain, you really knocked it out of the park! 5 million stars! Whatever you are doing keep doing it! I have my criticisms but in a possible trilogy??? I think it is… I reserve my review for that until the end as the author deserves the time to expand on the next book and then I will review on how well it all flows together. This story has an amazing start and I am going to be bitting my nails waiting for the next one.

I LOVE THIS STORY! LaShell had me hooked from the prequel novella and now that I’ve read book 1, I’m a fish out of water. I can’t breath! I need book 2. I have so many questions. The twists and turns she takes you on, as we ride alongside Eme and Ace, experiencing their journey. Their relationship is beautiful. When I read the prequel I really thought things would go a certain way, I’m so happy I was wrong. Seeing them care for one another, as the only family they have left. Ugh, take my heart now!

5 stars for this fae romantasy, it will have you turning the page after that “One more chapter” is over.
3.5 spice, or green flame for CreedReads level.

So many thoughts and theories, I don’t think people are who we think they are, nor are they what we think they are. What does this mean for the feelings blossoming between some of our MCs?

Fate Of Water And Wind: The Osparia Series Book One by: Lashell Rain

From the moment the story begins you’re immersed in the world and adventure right along side the characters. Lashell paints a vivid world and the characters are endearing and I fell for them all right away. The story gives The Last Heir Bender meets Shadow and Bone vibes and I really loved it! I read it in one sitting I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. I want to definitely read the other books in this series.

I really loved the plot and the MCs they all add to the story and I love their connection and banter. You can feel the tension, heartbreak, and sadness over the war and those who were lost. The story is jam packed with mythical and magical creatures and done with a twist woven through them all. It didn’t feel like a story I before given the tropes are my favorite it definitely has a twist on them in the best way. I love the deep friendship and found family of the two MCs and I also really loved that they have been friends for decades given they are like 100 years old. Emelyn and Ace were so perfect they are fiercely loyal to one another. I look forward to the next book and getting more information on what the plans are and Kade. It was a quick read and I didn’t want it to end.

I was sent a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book: Avatar the Last Airbender meets high fantasy.

I love that the two main characters are best friends, and that there’s no chance of romance between them—that their bond is just really deep between each other. I really like that.
You do need to read the novellas to really get a good idea of what’s happening in this world, although if you have ever seen ATLA, you already know what’s happening in this book. As a fan of ATLA there were scenes in this book that were lifted straight out of the television show, I could see it in my brain. I didn’t love that. I was guess I was looking for more of using ATLA as inspiration for the premise of the book, rather than having so much of the story be literally identical to the television show.
I’m still not sure what the connection to Kade and Crow is. Since so much of the book was lifted from ATLA I assumed I knew what the connection was, but now I’m not so sure. I am interested to see who Eme ends up choosing and what ends up happening between all of them.

Despite a somewhat unoriginal premise, Rain is a good author. I like her word choice and descriptions. She does gloss over some things quickly that could use some elaboration, but I read words here I don’t usually see in books of this ilk. That is impressive.

OUTSTANDING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is an absolute MUST READ…First I’d like to start with, i have not read a book to date, that i haven’t been able to predict the outcome of or get somewhat close to what it would be …. Fate of water and wind has changed that !!! Which in my personal opinion is GREAT.
This book has two MC (female and male) Emelyn & Ace , BFF’s and it’s told through both of their POV’s .
The world building was so amazing and well thought out . The FMC was snarky and a serious ass kicker . Not a whinny save me kinda girl ( she’ll save her damn self), totally a bad ass! And her best friend MMC was not the typical chauvinistic all sexy muscles and no brains save the girl kinda guy ..it was equal and respected partnerships ( as you would expect from a long friendship) . They both have their own down right dirty swoon worthy moments, which was a perfect blend of fantasy fae romance with a perfect amount of spice!!
Although it ends on a cliffhanger, i still can’t stop thinking about whats to come ….
Who will be Emelyns love ? ( there are definitely some good choices and so many secrets..it’s for sure peaked my interest and kept my mind reeling) What crazy nerve wracking city destroying adventure will wait these two ? UGGGHHHH i can’t wait for BOOK 2!!!!!

This needed an editor, or a better one. It takes a LONG time to get to *the moment* where the story actually starts, and it's too much telling about the past and world instead of showing us through the actions and quick snippets here and there.

Once we meet the "enemy" brothers, there is virtually no interaction between them and FMC, particularly Kade (older prince), and yet we're supposed to believe that the FMC who is their freaking prisoner would be grinning at the pair of princes every other line...? While in her literal prison cell...? What?? It also says it's multi-POV but one of the "chapters" from the MMC's perspective is literally one fucking sentence. I'm not exaggerating. One. Sentence.

DNF'd at about 50%. I just couldn't keep up with the unbelievable "instalove" between captors and captive with virtually no interactions at all, and the FMC suddenly being able to defeat a soldier who has fire ability and trains every day. Also, one of the perspectives we keep getting, including a spicy scene, is of her BFF guy. Why? I love supporting characters as much as the next person and they are crucial to the plot, but if we're heading into an RH, then I expect the POVs to be members of the RH, not the bestie.

I started this book not really knowing where it was going, but I was very happy with the outcome. The story was interesting from the start and had characters I liked a lot.
Although advised, I didn't read the prequal novellas (I just wanted to get straight into the story), so at first I thought Eme and Ace were toegther romantically, then I thought Eme and Kade and then Crow came into the picture.
I did really enjoy all the characters, however I felt like a lot of the story was slightly rushed, including the intamacy between Eme and Crow. I didn't really get a sense of Enemies to Lovers as they didn't hate each other for long and seeing as Crow didn't enter the book until about 50% in, I would've liked more tension between them before any spicy scenes (however I was VERY happy with the scenes between Eme and Crow). I had expected the main love interest to be Kade as he was introduced a lot sooner and then not really mentioned much after, but I'm guessing with how the book ended, Kade will be brought up again in the sequel.
But a very enjoyable read and will definitely be picking up the next book!

I was provided a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I think this book had a promising plot; however, the execution fell flat.

There was very limited world building and a lot was left for interpretation, which doesn't work well for a fantasy novel not set in the modern world. Unfortunately, the same is true for the characters. The entire book focused on what the main characters are but never discussed who. It was impossible to connect with characters because I don't know anything about them.

It felt like the author wanted to be inclusive by having a hearing character who only signed (understood verbal language but did not speak themselves), but this also missed the mark. There would have been a great opportunity to discuss the advantages and disadvantages to the world around you not understanding your language, but it was looked over.

There were also multiple points throught the book when the same exact paragraph appeared more than once. It felt like a copy and paste error with the end paragraph of the chapter occurring at the beginning as well.

The cover to this book is so beautiful and had me drawn in before I even knew what it was about. I think this is written so well and is a very unique installment to what seems like is going to be a fantastic series. There are multiple POVs which I liked because with all the different things going on in the pending war it was nice understanding POVs from enemies and allies. The build up of the characters was a little intense after knowing their background from a more in depth perspective.

At first I thought the LI for Emelyn was Ace but that was quickly resolved when the dialogue made it very clear that these two love each other like brother and sister and I love the bond they share! Always together no matter what and they stand by each other no matter the danger! Crow is probably my favorite character but I liked Rhet a little too. I think he has potential to be a really good best friend vibe for Emelyn. I can't quite get a good read on Kade's intentions but I need to know what happens next!

Fate of Water and Wind by Lashell Rain
“A wound unseen is still a wound.”
~~~
I first would like to thank Lashell Rain for sending me a eARC of this book. I was captivated by this series and book from the beginning. When I was sent the book I read it so quickly, I fell in love with the characters, and the plot. It does have the elements of Avatar the last Airbender. Bending of the elements. There are some trigger warnings, so be careful of those.
I did think that there were some parts of the book that seemed a little rushed and maybe felt a little off. (Obviously I aint about spoilers life.) But also loved the spice and little romance that is also in this book. The ending of the book was unexpected and came faster than I thought; and I didn’t see it coming. But I got hooked and I can’t wait for the second book. I also didn’t see how the FMC would end up with the end, I wonder if that will be who the endgame is.
My god guys!
I really loved this book. It is the perfect mixup of The Legend of the Korra and Avatar the Last Air Bender.
WARNING!: The story got so much richer after reading novellas, so you should definitely read them first!
There is a war going on with the Fire Faeries. They are currently trying to concur the world. You are following 4 main characters in this story. There are 4 different POV chapters even though we mostly follow Eme.
As a Zutara stan, I really recommend this book. I currently don't know who will end up with who basically, but Em and Ace are really fun and badass to follow. It felt like reading a movie. And I totally imagined everyone like Avatar the last airbender-style characters.
You should definitely read this book. Period.
Thanks to the author for ARC copy 💙 this is an honest review.
(a non-book related note: we also need Zutara alternate universe in Avatar world for sure. maybe I should read some fanfiction)
