Medical Self-Help/Health Arthritis and Common Sense, the best-selling one-million-copy classic on arthritis, is now available in paperback for the first time! In these pages, the arthritis sufferer will find a simple dietary plan that may help to alleviate the pains and symptoms of this disease, without the use of drugs of any kind. The overwhelming success of Arthritis and Common Sense and the thousands of grateful letters that pour in to its author prove the effectiveness of his safe and sensible approach. Dale Alexander offers a list of menus, a day-by-day breakdown of meals, and a plan of good eating for an entire week. His simple, nontechnical explanations, large type for easy reading, plus helpful illustrations ensure that every reader will quickly and easily understand what Mr. Alexander believes to be the causes and effects of arthritis and learn how he proposes to obtain relief. In the thirty years since it was first published, Arthritis and Common Sense has become the best-selling book on arthritis ever written. And it will continue to be read by arthritis sufferers everywhere, because readers tell us this commonsense method works.
Got ARTHRITIS!?! This is the book for you. Dan Dale Alexander was saddened by watching his mother’s arthritis worsen over many years. As a result, he took action.
Dan, amazingly, spent 30 years reviewing medical information and doing laboratory testings. “During the course of [his] laboratory experiments, [he] developed an arthirtic condition within [his] own body.” Essentially, he was his own guinea pig.
What a blessing that he shared all of his hard work and laboratory findings with the public! Not only did he write this book, he also held many lectures in major cities in the US speaking on the subject.
The main reason that I love this book is because it was written in the 1950’s!
This book is not outdated. Instead, Dan Dale Alexander was ahead of his time. The eating program that he gives in his book is well explained, and the easy-to-read medical information gives ample reasons why the arthritic needs to follow the program as it is presented.
Yes, I have a mild case of arthritis, and I am following the information in the book. Already I am seeing some results. As indicated in the book, there is an approximate rate of 85% long term improvement/recovery in those who participated in the program. Cortisone drugs, on the other hand, are only short term relief, and ineffective for some arthritics. As Dan admits, the other 15% could easily represent those patients whose arthritic condition had progressed too far for remission.
I encourage anyone suffering with arthritis to read this book. Know that you can make those dietary changes that can ultimately change your life! :-)
Very good book for those who have arthritis and want to control it through diet. The author says cod liver oil is a must. He gives you simple and easy straightforward meal plans to help with arthritis for those underweight, overweight and normal weight. Other informative information also. Even though this was written clear back in 1954, don't let it scare you. If you stick with his meal plan, you will feel better. The arthritis doesn't go away but it helps with the pain.
I may eventually cross reference this book with more modern statistics and solutions, but I genuinely enjoyed reading this book despite the fact that I do not currently have a diagnosis of arthritis. His writing style is so refreshing, and truly stands out in a sea of mundane health/self-help books. Quickly became one of my favorite nonfiction books.
Hard to believe this was copyright 1954. Much of the information sounds like recent things I've read. And the advice does seem like common sense--although I'm not sure how well I will follow it, given my sweet tooth.
