When the lil’ Bastard was born, he killed his own mother through design. Having listened to her moaning for the last nine months, there was no way in hell he was going to spend the next 18 years with the bitch so, he ensured she didn’t survive child-birth. As it turned out, that murderous act was one of the more “pleasant” things he did with his first moments on earth...
A short, twisted black comedy intended for an adult audience who isn't easily offended.
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
Jesus Christ….I…um….am at a loss for words here. This was like a nightmare reimagining of Look Who’s Talking. Or maybe the upbringing of Satan’s son Damien from South Park. But just an evil soul in a little body. Totally aware of its actions and ambitions. And this book is just equally creepy as it is utter insanity. Matt Shaw is never short on new concepts like this, and he rarely disappoints. I laughed quite a bit more than I probably should have, but the internal monologue of our main character was just hysterical. And just seeing how this story unfolded was an absolute thrill. I gagged at one of the scenes, which I refuse to spoil for anyone, but you’ll know it when you get there. I highly recommend this for anyone who has a sick sense of humor or who just hates babies, and needs to have another reason to maintain that stance.
Matt Shaw has quite the messed up crazy, scary, and dark way of thinking, that tends to draw you in to reading his books. Especially if you are a fan of humor, and horror. This book was written through the eyes of a fetus, and baby. So saying its different is kind of an understatement! This book was dark, and twisted in a Matt Shaw type of way, making it interesting, and sometimes humorous. It had me saying wtf, literally with every chapter.
Well, this one was everything the description said it would be. This was a recent one that I honestly felt was well written and a good, entertaining story. I don't normally gravitate towards horror comedy. That's just me. But this one just worked. It's got crudeness, revenge, foul language, a bit of violence, odd ideas, more revenge. The story gets wrapped up in a surprising way. So for this one, it's 4 stars for me.
Well what can I say this was fucking insane. This story was basically told from a child's point of view....it's like that movie look who's talking but the kid is truly a little bastard. This book just showed me how fucked up my sense of humor is because I laughed probably more than I should have at all the violence and crazy shit that went down in this one..... And the ending was awesome. I highly recommend this one
"A short, twisted black comedy intended for an adult audience who isn't easily offended."
I loved this book. If you can't say your child at one point or another has driven you insane then this book isn't for you. The difference between most of us and this kids dad is that we are humans, not characters, and therefore have the ability to control ourselves. I really enjoyed the POV the book was written from. I can't say that I have ever read a book written by the child's point of view, that I can remember Im really into disturbing short stories right now and this ones matches that perfectly.
This is my first read by Matt and what an introduction to his work, it mas freaking A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!.
It's told from a baby's point of view, which was a first for me. It was funny as hell reading what the baby would like to do to his relatives but obviously, he can't even walk!!.
It's a short story about reincarnation, born into an unwanted family. Loved the writing style, dark humour/funny and disgusting at the same time, if you have triggers stay away from it, it's not for the easily offended. There is a reference to Boris Johnson which was very amusing.
The ending was superb, one of the best endings I've ever read.
This is one sick and twisted story, a typical Matt Shaw read. His imagine holds no bounds. His stories are from another world and how he puts them together are truly amazing. This read is all revenge and rebirth, but through the eyes of a new born child. How does that work you may ask? A new born knows of nothing and has to learn from the very beginning. To walk, talk, think etc. Well that's where Matt Shaw comes into it and not does he make it work. You really have to read it to see how. A fascinating imagination, a true extreme read, that's so twisted you can't stop yourself from reading it through and being shocked. Recommended to anyone whom enjoys that extreme twisted read. But not for those whom are easily offended or weak stomached.
I always expect a great time by Shaw, and he really delivered a crazy and unique story this time!
First of all, the cover is absolutely creepy and amazing! It's one of the reasons that drew me into reading it.
As for the story itself, it's extremely hard to put this into words without spoilers, haha. This quickly became one of my favorites by Shaw after finishing.
I'm really at a loss of words here, lol, it's wild as hell, while being hilarious at the same time. Our main character is truly a bad person and we follow his journeys throughout different times.
Well this was definitely a fun ride! I wasn’t too sure what to think about a “black horror comedy” with black humor. I’m more of a regular extreme horror type of girl myself; but I love Matt Shaw and have read several of his books, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to give it a try. And I’m glad I did, it definitely made me chuckle more than a time or two. If the people around me only knew what I was reading that was making me laugh like that, the world would probably shun me! Hahaha jk 😝 But for real, I did enjoy this book for sure, and it absolutely 100% changed the way I will look at babies for the rest of my life! I will forever be suspicious of every little move they make!🤣 Thank God I don’t have my own kids…yet 😈
Lil Bastard is told from the perspective of a baby who remembers being being other people and is bitter and angry as fuck. He spends his days plotting to kill, but of course he is a baby so his options are limited. That doesn’t discourage him though. The story takes an unexpected turn, but comes full circle. I laughed out loud at several points. The baby talk translations cracked me up.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 read for me. This is not for everyone, but it is for me. If you like extreme horror and dark (really dark) humor, you’ll like this.
This book was crazy. I've never read anything quite like this. Its a short, fast read so I don't want to give anything away, but wow. this was hilarious. I'm definitely going to read more Matt Shaw
I have mixed feelings. Obviously, we can't expect moral compass here but wow. So every villain does have an arc. I don't have any concrete thoughts apart from "What did I just read?". I am still floating through the story.
Reincarnation stories are not really my thing but this one is oddly good. I liked the use of poetry here which subtly highlighted important events of the story. I also like how he kept the first and last chapters in sync for reader to have an "AHA" moment.
Damn that was good! I did not see that ending coming AT ALL! It was definitely satisfying. I didn't really know what this book was about, but like always, Matt's book covers find a way to draw me in. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. It's an extreme horror just the way I like them. This Lil'Bastard dishes out horror and is dished alot of horror as well. You'll have to read it to find out who comes out on top, but be prepared for some sick shit! 💩
My only drawback about this book was.... it wasn't longer.....I adored it....the humour...the dialogue...it brightened my day....Lil' Bastard was a delight to read......Matt Shaw I love you...you are a brilliant author...Thank You for sharing your fantastic mind with all who enjoy your books so much!!! 10 out of 10 from me.
This was wild. Someone else I follow read this so I thought why not? It’s short, horrific and yet for some reason I liked it. I think it helps knowing that this baby isn’t really a baby? I don’t know. This was an absolutely crazy read. I’m interested in seeing if this authors other stories are similar.
I love dark humor, it’s totally my type of comedy. HOWEVER! I think the author tried too hard by overly swearing, and so I was taken out of the story a lot. On a better note, I really enjoyed how the story came full circle. Although, it wasn’t enough of a reason to give it a higher rating. Read at your own discretion!!! There's a lot of gory violence, sex, and strong language.
The loving parent inside me was horrified. The side that enjoys these kind of books enjoyed most of the 67 pages. So win win? I liked that things tied neatly back together. And perhaps I even was rooting for the lil’ b@stard.
I love Matt Shaw, I’ve read a couple books by him, and I love that he has such unique concepts built into his stories. I love a good plot, along with the blood and guts. Matt Shaw is also a wonderful place to start if you’re just looking into extreme horror/splatterpunk.
This book did exactly what it was meant to do. It was the perfect length and the story was captivating and has so much dark humor. Aside from the cover being scary as hell, this gave me a good ole chuckle.
