He’s not supposed to want her. She’s tried to forget him. A killer determined to keep his secrets hidden, no matter the cost.

As the leader of RISC’s elite Delta Team, Christian Hunt thrives on adrenaline and danger. But his biggest challenge lies within his own heart. Crippled by the weight of his past and burdened by age-old secret, he believes he can only protect the woman he loves by pushing her away. Torn between duty, secrets, and the woman who captured his heart, he has a choice to make: Face his inner demons once and for all and be the man she deserves…or watch her walk away for good.

Megan King is desperate to understand why Christian—her brother’s best friend and the man she’s secretly loved for years—developed such an aversion to her. Confused and hurt by his sudden indifference toward her, she convinces herself it’s time to move on. But when a random act of kindness makes her the target of a sinister plot to kill, Megan has no choice but to put her life in Christian’s hands.

As they navigate a treacherous game of cat and mouse, Christian and Megan are forced to confront their feelings while fighting to keep Megan alive. Passion ignites and truths are revealed, but their love hangs in the balance as their enemy closes in. And if they aren’t careful, the shared love they’ve only just begun to enjoy will be lost to the hands of a killer.

Entertaining. Similar to her others. I wish there was more depth about them. But overall consistent with what she normally writes.

But for an edit, this book might have been a good read. As it stands, there are too many problems that could have been corrected by a copy editor and a proofreader. The mistakes halt readers in their tracks and pull them out of the story, and that’s a shame. Added to these big problems is the pace of the book – it’s way off. There should be a balance between action and romance. While there’s action, there is little romance…and there’s a sheer ton of angst.

This is a story of…well, it’s difficult to say. It starts out as a story about the men of RISC Team Delta. Then we switch to a story about Megan King, a doormat who has been in love with a man who has apparently treated her abominably for five years because…wait for it…he loves her. Huh. Okay, then. It’s also about that disruptive man, Christian Hunt. Oh, and Megan’s brother, Brody King, Christian’s best friend.

There’s a lot going on. Jungle rescues, murderers, hitmen, all sorts of malfeasants – bad people doing bad things. There might could be a hint of romance, bit it’s easy to miss. The book is mostly a lot of angst on the part of Megan King who hopes and wishes and desires but does little beyond that to obtain the man of her dreams, Christian Hunt. On his part, he made a promise to her brother, Brody, when they were kids to have nothing to do with his sister, Megan. He’s stuck to that adolescent promise like glue, using it as the reason he is rude and obnoxious to her. Secretly, he pines for her. And that’s the book. Lots of pining away, but no romance. When the two finally get together—and we know they must—there’s lots of romping sex, but no romance. And the sex is oddly clinical.

There are many disconnects in the book, scenes that bounce a reader right out of the story. For instance:
 In the prologue, team Delta is on a mission to rescue some American hostages in the Darien Gap at the Columbia-Panama border. The question is how many hostages are being rescued? On Kindle page 11, we’re told a particularly nasty predator of a man had “kidnapped seven American aid workers.” Then on page 17, we’re told the bad guys “herded the six [hostages] toward their boss.” And in the next sentence we’re told, “…the four men – six women aid group were dirty, disheveled, and staring back…” So, which is it? Are there seven, or six, or ten in the group of hostages?
 Back at home base, a Homeland Security liaison asks that the Delta team “email me their AARs within the week.” That made me pause. AAR is a military abbreviation for After Action Review and it’s a face-to-face meeting where the team discusses how they performed. Its purpose is to strategize in order to improve performance in the future. It’s a candid and open discussion of what went right, what went wrong, what needs improvement, and so on. Individual team members do not submit reports to higher-ups outside their units. It would be up to the facilitator of the AAR to provide documentation to higher commands.
 Christian King is all over the various armed forces. He served “first in the Navy as a corpsman, and then later as Air Force Pararescueman,” and then a SEAL (he remembers an “ops that led him and his fellow SEALS into the depths of Hell…”) Wow. While it’s possible to transition between the various armed forces, it’s a mountain of paperwork, and it’s not a frequent undertaking. Does the writer even know what a Navy corpsman or pararescueman do? Or even a SEAL beyond what’s in romance books and movies? A corpsman helps warriors survive the battlefield where there are no doctors or nurses. A pararescueman is highly specialized – they conduct PR (personnel recovery) during combat rescue operations. They are highly trained special operators. And a SEAL is an elite military force that engages in unconventional warfare. All three MOS—or military occupational specialties—are important, and one man doing all three would be highly unlikely, although it’s theoretically possible (I think...maybe).
 Megan King stops when she sees a car with a damaged fender on the side of the highway, the driver still in the car with the airbags deployed. She hops out of her Jeep to help, although she isn’t trained to give any sort of aid…and…she never calls 911. That’s weird. Logically, she would’ve called 911 to report the accident and summon real help before seeing to the driver. Instead, she drives off and leaves the driver still stranded, although he tells her he’s calling 911. She has the wherewithal to memorize his license plate number, but that act doesn’t go anywhere. It’s certainly an odd behavior. (It’s a good example of Chekov’s gun where something--like memorizing the license plate number--is made to seem significant, but disappears, never to be mentioned again.)
 Christian goes to Megan’s coffeeshop on a coffee run for the Delta team. He leaves the coffeeshop holding a tray of coffee drinks. She calls to him and he is prompted “to move the tray to one hand.” Then, “Christian cupped both sides of her face while bringing his in close.” What happened to the tray of coffees? And then, “…those strong hands of his disappear[ing] into his front pockets.” Again, what happened to the tray? And finally, “Taking a step back, he retrieved the tray of drinks.” Okay. Where did the tray of drinks go and where were they retrieved from? Weird…
 As vague as the disappearing coffee tray is, the writer is curiously specific at times: He “removed the black helmet from the second hook from the right.” This is so specific, it gives the impression of importance, but it isn’t. It’s just the writer telling us what Christian is doing.
 There is an odd discrepancy in time. Chapter 13 is headed by “THREE DAYS LATER…” That’s three days after an attempt on Megan’s life. On the next page, Christian says to Megan, “I really don’t like the idea of you going into work… Not after what happened last night.” What happened last night actually happened three days ago according to the chapter’s heading.

There are some errors, for example,
 An unnecessary comma is placed in the middle of a sentence: “…pondering the exact moment everything seemed to shift into what she’d once considered, their friendship.” The comma after “considered” is superfluous and causes a reader to pause needlessly. That should read, “…she’d once considered their friendship.”
 There’s one “before you” too many in this sentence: “I was worried we might not see each other before you before you left town.”
 A period should be placed inside quotation marks; here, it isn’t: “Whatever”.
 A period appears in the middle of a sentence: “…so when she shut the bathroom door from this side. If anyone tried to open it from here, it would be locked…” A comma could replace the period after “side,” if the writer wishes.
 Megan calls her brother, Brody, “Bro-Bro” and “BroBro.” Both spellings are used.
 The wrong tense is used here: “…he listened to a man he loved like a brother told him to fu** off.” That should read, “…he listened to a man he loved like a brother tell him to fu** off.” Or a preposition, “as,” could be used: “…he listened as a man he loved like a brother told him to fu** off.”

I rated this book 1.5 stars and rounded up. It was an odd little story with not much to it. The main characters pine over each other for three-quarters of the book. I ended up speedreading to get through the heavily repetitious meanderings of their sad and torturous thoughts. The action was also stretched out beyond what was needed. I skipped some pages when Megan was trapped in her bedroom closet. I didn’t feel the tension or suspense. It didn’t seem as if she was in any real danger, even when the writer told us she was. That scene was an excuse for her to be a helpless female who needed a SEAL to come rescue her. It was surreal.

This book gives an appearance of having been written in a hurry without benefit of a ruthless self-edit, something the best writers must be able to perform. It doesn’t have smooth transitions between scenes, and there are too many reading stoppers. The characters feel like pawns on a chessboard, not fully fleshed out, and the main characters cannot break away from their interminable and unrelenting torment over not moving forward—for five years!—with their relationship. Chemistry is important in romance, and if there were any of this amazing attraction, I didn’t see or read it. The romance angle fell flat. I can’t see reading any more of the series. It may be that there’s one too many of these RISC groups.

These are fast romantic suspense reads with hot, hunky, former Special Forces heroes now working for the R.I.S.C Agency. (This is a spin-off of Ms. Blakely's ongoing R.I.S.C. series. This one features the new Delta Team, based out of Chicago. You can meet some of the heroes in the last book of the R.I.S.C. Charlie Team series, PARKER.)

They work special missions from bodyguarding to rescuing kidnap victims on foreign soil to combatting domestic terrorism. And, they find strong heroines to fall in love with along the way.

Charlie team

I was excited for this new series being added to the RISC team. However, I am disappointed.

First, I know there were issues with the wrong version being sent out, but it does not seem to have been resolved. As other reviewers have said, problems with continuity of the the characters last names. The hostage group that Christian’s team went to save was 10 people but then it stayed six in the next sentence. I
ssues, such as the team picked up a large group of hostages and two villains with their entire team in a Blackhawk helicopter. Later in the book, he has a tray of coffee in his hands while they talk on a sidewalk and then he had both hands on her face and in his pockets. (where did he put the coffee)

The actual romance is also missing. The history and back story of this couple happens off page. They supposedly have history and feelings for each other, but no flash backs to show these feelings. This was presented as friends- to enemies- lovers but you only see the transition to lovers on page. They get together after suspense at 82% of the book then they are engaged.

I will read the next book since I have read all the others, hopefully it gets better from here!

The man of her dreams? Or the bane of her existence?

Megan may love Christian but right now she hates him, and you cannot blame her, he does act like a complete ass!
Christian is terrified of how Megan makes him feel, as Delta's leader he is so used to locking all emotion down to keep his men safe and in his personal life he leaves before anyone can leave him, that the flood of emotion each and every time he sees Megan leaves him reeling. But he never wants to leave Megan, cannot leave as she is a part of the team's life, she comes with Brody...and there is his biggest fear.
Almost dying puts things in perspective for Christian, Megan almost dying sends him feral and he knows he has to tell her, show her. He is only existing right now, not living and any time with Megan is better than no time at all. It is a frustrating journey with Christian, there are a number of times you want to shake some sense into him, but then he knows he has messed up and is frustrated with himself too, which has your heart twinging for him.
There are a few mistakes, for example: there are six hostages made up of 4 men- 6 women and the hostage taker goes from calling Christian Mr Williams (his cover name) to Mr Hunt (his actual name) before reverting back to his cover again...very confusing.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Well the Delta Team series is starting off with a bang! Christian Hunt is this teams leader. His second in command just happens to be his childhood best friend Brody King. These two men are like brothers in every sense of the word but Christian has a problem. He has been in love with his best friend's younger sister for the past 5 years and doesn't know what to do about it. Megan King has loved her brother and his best friend for most of her life. The problem is that when she moved to Chicago to launch her business near her brother's headquarters Christian has changed from being a friend to being more of an enemy. She doesn't understand where they went wrong. Was it something she said or did? Does he not see how she feels about him? Oh the angst! Add to this Megan happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and sets an event in motion that can cost her life and yet she is completely unaware. Well the old adage that life is short really comes in to play in Christian and Megan's story. It's a slow burn romantic suspense thriller that will keep you engaged until the final page. It was told from multiple POV and I am looking forward to the next Delta Team story!

wow!!!

I love this series! I don’t want to see it end. Christian and Megan! Frenemies to lovers ! Christian and Megans’s brother Brody have been best friends for a long time. When they were much younger. He made Christian promise he wouldn’t ever touch Megan. He was ok with that because they were friends. He wasn’t physically attracted to her at that time. 5 years ago Christian became smitten with Megan. They were friendly for a while , then he tried to ignore her or be indifferent with her due to his immense feelings. Eventually it was just easier to let Megan feel like he didn’t like her. Megan finds herself in danger and her Brother Brody was out of the country so he asked Christian to be there for an emergency. Christian finally decides he is going to tell Megan the truth. Get this book to find out what Megan says? Brody? You won’t regret it ! If you haven’t read the series you can still read this book. Just make sure you start from the beginning of the series for the rest!!

Christian and Meghan are both in love with each other but refuse to admit it to one another. I know a central theme of a lot of these brother best friends love tropes is that the male character is afraid to tell the brother that he is in love with his sister, but would people really go years being that unhappy and miserable just because you promised your buddy when you were a teenager never to hit on his little sister. Anyways, after they admit to each other how they feel and they overcome a silly little kidnap/murder plot that never really made sense, they are one of my favorite couples. The secondary characters fit into the story well and made me look forward to the next books in the series.

Even as they got to young adulthood, Christian Hunt was fine being just friends with his BFF’s sister, Megan King. That changed five years ago when he caught a severe case of the feels and he didn’t know how to treat her as anything other than a nuisance. Megan was bewildered and hurt because she’d always looked at Christian as her future.

At the same time Megan decided she was tired of pining for Christian while he treated her badly, she stopped to help a stranded motorist. But things were not what they seemed in either situation and both had huge impacts on Megan’s immediate future. The motorist was a desperate blackmail victim and Christian guiltily regretted his actions. This reader wasn’t a fan of the rushed ending or the villain.

R.I.S.C Delta Team is introduced in Christian. Intriguing bunch of operators. It takes Chistian Hunt, team leader, almost losing what's most precious to him to finally pull his head out. In trying to honor the bro code he only succeeded in pushing Megan King away with his gruff, grumpy and abrupt attitude. Megan tried to convince herself she'd had enough of waiting for Christian to come around and she was almost successful...almost. Having someone try to kill you puts things in perspective. Here's the kicker. When all is said and done her brother, Christian's best friend, has no problem with them being together. Go figure!

A quick read to establish the series …

I liked this as a quick read to establish the series, giving us a quick introduction to the new team. I didn’t give it the fifth star due to some proofreading misses and the main reason is a timeline issue. I’m trying not to give anything away. An incident occurs that propels two characters in a new direction and they spend several days together after, yet when it’s time to go to work both characters refer to the incident as being the previous day. Things like that irritate me. Other than that, it’s another great read by Ms. Blakely!

great intro

I enjoyed this book and am eagerly anticipating the rest of this series already.

I did want to kick both characters at times but that was totally part of the charm of the story. Christian went full 180 from convinced he couldn’t have her to not wanting to let her go despite all his misgivings. Megan hung on to her crush even when he was driving her insane.
I loved how it all worked out for them romantically and the added sense of danger was intriguing but didn’t distract from the set up of the team and characters for the future books

An editor would have helped.

Potential spoiler alert
In the prologue the hero was in the air force. Once we got to the story he was a navy seal. This was a turn-off.

In the first few minutes of the prologue the fake last name was Williams and the real last name is Hunter. The villain calls the hero Mr. Hunter. This made me think the cover was blown but I realized it was a typo.

I appreciate all of the hard work a writer puts in a story. My ask is to have someone proof before publishing and seeking reviews.

Brody has been his best friend for every and Christian has always had feelings for Megan but couldn't do anything about it because of an oath he made with her brother when they were kids. But he was tired of avoid his feelings for her so he was going to have a talk with Megan and see what happens. Wonderful story!

Wow! Anna has done it again! This story grabs you right from the beginning. Two people who love each keep their distance from each other. This story is about Christian and Megan. When Megan stops to help a man who had crashed is when her troubles started. Christian finally decides enough is enough and heads to Megan's place only to help save her life. There are definitely scary moments that put your heart in your throat. I am happy these two finally got their acts together. FANTASTIC job Anna! I would highly recommend this book! Can't wait for the next book!

Return to R.I.S.C.

Christian and Megan. A cute best friends sister romance with a military/action edge. The drama and danger comes from an unexpected Good Samaritan action. The story was fast paced and well rounded. Good intro to the new team and connection to their R.I.S.C. teams. Al the characters were entertaining and I can’t wait for Jaggers story and Brody’s. I also hope we see more of Ro!

I love to start new series. This one was a good start. Megan has been in love with Christian since they were kids. He is her brother’s best friend. She doesn’t understand why the last five years he can’t stand to be around her. But he has avoided her not because he doesn’t care but because he is in love with her. But he doesn’t want to go against his best friend who has warned him to stay away from her. She is now being threatened by someone who wants to kill her and Christian is there to save her. It was worth the read and can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Christian

Megan has loved Christian for many years and although they used to be friends for the last several years he had been a bear to her or totally ignoring her. When he chews her out for trying to be a good Samaritan, that's it for her.
When real trouble finds Megan she doesn't ask for help until it almost cost her her life. Christian jumps in but will anything else change for her life?

The author's really improved her work! I read her several book but it's not this good. Definitely not disappointing.

Christian always has a crush on Megan. But child promise to his best friend prevent him to make a move. Getting older, it's hard to resist Megan so he decided to give her a cold shoulder. When Megan in danger, he throw all the rules to the window. He become her protector, and love her with his life.

This book is pretty tame compared to the other teams in this series. Megan owns a coffee shop across the street from Delta Team's office building. She and her brother Brody have been friends with Christian since they were young. But the deal with Seal brothers not messing with their sisters, well that's put a crimp in Christian's style to have a relationship with Megan. She does a good deed that comes back to haunt her. Some danger and plenty of heat. HEA.

Great start to new series

I really enjoyed getting to know the new group of characters of the Delta team. Christian and Megan was a great read with friends and enemies to friends again. There was suspense, friendships and of course twists and turns with just enough action to keep you hooked. Highly recommend this book or any of the other ones Anna has written.

Double trouble

This book is the first book in this series. It begins laying out the enjoyable characters, so we can get to know them. There is very good suspense and some action and romance. I speed read some of it that I found a bit too wordy. But I did enjoy it and the happy ending.

An interesting read

I really enjoyed the book and its characters. However, I felt the story was too short. There could be much more detail and drama. In some ways the story was too fast and ended too quickly. I was hoping for more detail surrounding the killers. I feel there was more story to Emmett and he could have been a bigger threat to Meagan and Christian.

This is a great start to this series. I really liked meeting all the members of the Delta team and look forward to seeing them get their happily ever after.

While I understand why Christian did what he did, it still broke my heart. He was trying to do the right thing, but yet he hurt to people in the process.

The plot was good. The book was good but it was FAST! I read this in just a couple of hours. I feel like there should've been more...everything. They both turned around really quickly in their minds and emotions. I gave it two stars because the bad guy (for the first time I can remember) was TSTL. Really really stupid.
