Rachel Stanley lives in the Northwest of England. She has always wanted to write stories but only found the time to put pen to paper after a dream about a Grim Reaper. True story!

She's spent most of her adult life working as a project manager, despite her degree being in psychology. Her degree comes in handy though, helping her to understand people and their different motivations. Rachel loves people watching!

Rachel lives with her husband, David, and their two cats, Cooper and Watson, who feature in her "A Grim" series. She loves to travel and intends on seeing as much of the world as possible in her lifetime. Much of her writing is actually done when she is on one of her trips (at home or abroad). She can often be found at the side of a lake, or sat on a rock in the middle of nowhere, adding to her latest work of fiction.

Family is very important to Rachel. She firmly believes that without them she wouldn't be where she is now.

This is one of my favorite sagas by one of my favorite authors. Like the cover, A Grim Ending, gets a bit darker. The plot thickens, and readers get a good taste of action, adventure, and magic that pulls the trilogy together. I loved that a few side characters were up front and center, and if you read it, I think you will find that this book is a perfect ending to a fantastic series.

A Grim Ending, A New Beginning

I’ve eagerly awaited “A Grim Ending” – book three in A Grim Series by author Rachel Stanley. As soon as my schedule allowed, I immersed myself in a world of angels, demons, a prophesied portal, and a human key.

Stanley’s previous books set up this epic third installment well. Readers join main character Emma, her boyfriend Blake (the Keeper of Souls), Emma’s best friend Ellie (who carries an important bloodline), and Ellie’s dedicated boyfriend Scott (also Emma’s brother) as they play out their heroic roles in the culmination of Stanley’s imaginative saga.

The author excels at delivering a complex plotline in such a way that the reader is not lost or turning back pages to reread a chapter. Stanley tells a marvelously intertwined and twisting tale with simplicity. This is why a reader can “binge the book” AND spend days afterward mulling over the metaphysical world the author built alongside “normal everyday lives” playing out on the page.

I’ve admitted this before: Blake is one of my “book boyfriends.” A prickly character on a good day, it’s been fascinating to watch the author make him “more human” over the arc of the series. Stanley has done a fabulous job of bringing Blake to life – and giving him an even better one. Oh, he’s still difficult and easily frustrated, but scenes such as his enthusiasm over his first taste of pizza, the experience of chopping an onion, or the sweet bewilderment of receiving a hug from Ellie…Well, if you are a fan of Blake, you will be rewarded with these snippets.

I tried to set aside my “I know I’m going to love this book” preconception in order to take it in more objectively as I read. I’m not sure how successful I was – being a fan of the first two books – but what I did note was a significant deepening of the relationship between Emma and Blake. Early on, readers will find this natural familiarity between the two – something that typically develops over time between couples. And while their relationship hasn’t had the benefit of multiple years to grow and change, their unique bond has forwarded them to this special space. The unnatural threads of tapping into each other’s thoughts and feeling each other’s emotions become second nature. As a reader, I liked seeing this effortless flow between the two.

As mentioned above, this IS a complex story, so the author needed to dribble in bits of backstory here and there to make sure the reader was “caught up.” I appreciated the subtle reminders delivered through conversation and character thoughts. The tactic was helpful in building the foundation for this final book.

As in prior books, Stanley delivers the story from various character point-of-views (POVs). And as in those previous books, this separation of character lenses works well. It’s easy to follow and further rounds out the plotline. I *think* the author delivered more of Ellie’s POV this time around, and it makes sense if the author is considering a spinoff series – which would certainly be a bonus for fans of the author’s work!

The character Abbadon is back as expected. I always chuckle (appreciatively) over the name assigned to this being. If you want to know what I mean, you have to read the book. But I did note in one of the last few chapters of A Grim Ending that the author lets slip – via one of her characters – that Abbadon’s being type may or may not be one of “the good guys.” Again, the author is introducing some deeper considerations behind her storyline. I liked this.

While reading on my Kindle, I highlighted so many key points. Of course, sharing most of them would require revealing spoilers – something I do not include in my reviews. However, as I skim through my highlights, I can see how invested I became in this book, in what the characters did, in what they thought, and in how deeply they felt. Talented authors not only bring the goods when crafting a compelling story, they also enrich readers by creating characters to care about long after the last page is read.

Expect major reveals and drama in this final installment of A Grim Series! Of course, readers know that the prophecy needs to play out in some way – that is the reason for the journey traveled by the main players, after all. I will tell you this: I cried at one point during the last few chapters. There are endings, surprise revelations, and beginnings. The author could have gone in several different directions as she brought A Grim Series to a close. After finishing this book, I thought about those other possibilities, then I considered what the author chose to do. Rachel Stanley took readers down the right path.

As I read the Epilogue I thought: And so it begins.

Five stars to the author and for this final book in A Grim Series! Fans, what are you waiting for? It’s time to learn just how Emma and Blake’s story plays out in A Grim Ending.

Grim? … in places, but with rays of sunshine.
Having enjoyed A Grim Affair and a Grim Haunt, I waited a while before this one was released, so it was good to find a few reminders about aspects I’d forgotten.
From the first two books, it was clear that something big would happen to Emma in this final episode. There’d be some fantastically good or bad event, resulting either in a dreadful ending (which you might expect from the title), or a perhaps a happily ever after (which you’d expect from a love story, even one involving the Grim Reaper). It could have been the toss of a coin as to which direction the author took it ... and I won’t spoil it for you by saying which way it went.
There is a sizable shift of focus towards Ellie and Scott in this part of the story and, while raising their profiles, I would have preferred more from the POV of Blake who, to me, is the most interesting of the main characters. On the plus side however, we also see more of Abaddon, whose cameo appearances add a humorous extra dimension to the cast.
Overall, a highly engrossing and imaginative series.

A Not So Grim Ending

Things did get a bit more grim in this final part, and I liked finally getting to see the demons! I'd honestly love to know more about them with all the hints that neither side is truly good or evil. Blake was his usual snarky self which I loved and the cult idea was interesting, though I felt like the story dragged at times when it should have had a sense of urgency. I did like the final resolution of Blake and Emma's relationship plus the glimpse into a possible spin-off with Ellie at the end so hopefully there's more grim adventures coming in the future!

Perfectly Grim Ending

A Grim Ending may or may not have a grim ending - but it is the perfect finale to the series. Twists and turns, villains and heroes, and Abaddon! What could be better?

Rachel Stanley's Grim trilogy is a wonderful mix of fantasy and reality, with enough of each to keep fans of both genres happy. I loved Blake and Emma as a couple, as well as her continuing friendship with Ellie. Stanley takes you on a ride with several shocks along the way (no spoilers, but you will need the tissues at one point!) before bringing the story to the perfect conclusion. A must-read.

I'm actually sad that this series has come to an end because it has been such an enjoyable read. I've loved all of the characters that Rachel has created and how each have their own quirks that make them unique. There are plenty of twists and turns in this final installment and the perfect blends of history, supernatural, reality, and drama. There are shocks that I didn't see coming and lots of emotion throughout. Overall, such a great series with a unique twist on the Grim Reaper (sorry Blake, Keeper of Souls!) and Rachel has outdone herself with her perfect conclusion to the trilogy. I'm very excited to see what else this author has in store for us.

Love how it ended!

The Keeper of Souls and his true soulmate have an uncommon bond, but their very union endangers humanity! What price must they pay to save the world? A Grim Ending, the final book of A Grim Series, concludes the trilogy in a way I could not have guessed, but no other ending would have been as satisfying! Stanley hints at a tandem series in the final pages. Yes please!

Loved it

This was a fantastic ending to a brilliant trilogy. I was so happy to continue reading the story of Emma and the Grim Reaper Blake. I was also very happy that Emma's best friend Ellie played a bigger role in this book. I am a little sad that it's over though. I look forward to seeing more from Rachel Stanley.

3 and done

A Grim Ending concluded a 3 part paranormal romance series featuring the "Keeper of Souls;" aka the Grim Reaper.

It's finally happening, the demons have come for Emma to open the portal. Will they succeed or will Ellie thwart their plans? What will become of Blake if they don't?

Well, you'll have to read it to find out.

I'm going with 4 stars, as I enjoyed the story line, but I felt some editing could have made the story more powerful.

I recommend this series to anyone who loves paranormal romance and/ or angels and demons.

Fans of the Grim stories will not be disappointed by this third and final book of the series. Rachel Stanley uses her authentic British voice to add richness to this story. Descriptions of homes, names, landmarks, and signature colors are weaved around secret spies and the betrayal of a friend. She keeps you guessing at who's good and who's evil in a setting of magical mystery with supernaturals and the elements associated with them. Mrs. Stanley has her own brand of humor that's quite evident with Blake, A.K.A. The Keeper of Souls. He's still hilarious in his moods, and the places he finds himself. There are instances of comedy between him and his polar opposite (a warrior angel) that would have even a grumpy reader chuckling. A few bits of well-written horror left me shaking at one point. Gentle readers be aware that there is suffering and a very scary scene. Towards the end of the book, her fight choreography takes on a natural flow that becomes poetic. Rachel is known for dropping historical events into her writing, and she balances a quickness of information that adds depth to the tale without it turning into a lecture. Family history is the backbone of this series. There is a genuine warmth and love between the ancestors and descendants. Although there is a strong, grim streak in this story, there is light and hope. A Grim Ending is perfect for supernatural mystery fans. I recommend reading the first two books in the series before cracking this one.

Loved the ending

A Grim Ending by Rachel Stanley was the perfect ending to the trilogy. It brought together the action, a little bit of magic, some angels, and a little bit of romance to tie up the entire story.

I waited a little while to read this book because I didn't really want the series to end for me. I look back at the story, and I like to think about the way the plot was woven together. The characters and even the prickly boyfriend were endearing. Most of all, I loved the ending.

I definitely recommend this book and this series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I have loved this entire series, and I have to say I'm sad it's over. But the Keeper of Souls a.k.a. Blake is still smokin' hot and brooding as he develops more human qualities. I still love the dynamic between Emma and her bestie, Ellie. The angel Abaddon is great comic relief with her snarky, nonchalant ways. There's mystery, romance, excitement, and humor. This story literally has it all! It was a great ending to the Grim series, and I hope there's more to come from the author!!

There we have it. These books are fairly short, so I flew through books two and three having picked up this series again.

This book wrapped everything up nicely with a HEA and the promise of more from this world to come.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Emma’s character is one I liked from day one and I loved seeing her develop and grow as the book delved into all the fascinating aspects of her personality/background. She is funny, courageous, and so full of love. Emma immerses herself in uncovering the secrets of her family and how that connects to Blake. Though the stakes are heightened, and her life is in danger many times she doesn’t shy away from the fight.

Her boyfriend Blake who happens to be the Grim Reaper/Keeper of Souls is that moody MMC that everyone loves but he isn’t so much morally grey, he just has a darker destiny than most while having a depth of caring within him for Emma, his friends, and the souls he reaps that lets you fall in love with him easily. Though he can be taciturn it was lovely to see his pure joy at experiencing certain foods for the first time or even receiving comfort/hugs from others.

Together they make one of the cutest couples (don’t tell Blake I said that) and it shows how they share their lives, how they uplift and support each other and how they are soulmates in more ways than one.

The plot this time around was more intense, filled with twists and turns and revelations that left my jaw dropping open and my fingers turning those pages faster and faster towards the incredible ending. As the plot unfolds, we see how the myths of souls and reaping, Emma’s compelling intergenerational connection to Blake as well as Emma’s friend Ellie and her mysterious Bloodline intersects in the story. As Ellie becomes important to the plot, we hear more from her which adds a new dynamic to this instalment and allowed space to flesh out her character and story arc. We also learn the importance of other characters within the story and how they all play a part. I have never been so conflicted to read a book before as I was eager for the next instalment but sad to say goodbye to the characters, I have grown to love but the epilogue gives me hope for more! This finale lived up to the previous books and surpassed it. Highly recommend this entire series!

Book three and the final book of Ms. Stanley’s, A Grim Series, is the most intense of them all. The first two were super exciting and way out there original, so this finale, A Grim Ending, makes for the perfect wrap up for this trilogy. Blake, The Keeper of Souls, and Emma, are even more in love now. The fact that they share a soul is the key to how this adventure (and nightmare) resolves. This ending needed to be intense in order to bring the premise to a satisfying conclusion. The ending was a shock. And who shows up from the past, is a shock. So much is at stake and so much could be lost. Demons could enter the world and Emma could die. Everyone needs to work together. Ellie puts herself at risk, as does her boyfriend Scott, Emma’s brother. There are some really upsetting scenes as you really don’t know how it will end, till the end. Will Emma survive? Will Blake? Will the demons win? It looks pretty grim. I won’t say. It could go either way. And the conclusion, what happens in the final resolution, for Blake and Emma, is the biggest surprise of all. But it all feels like it was meant to be. I would be remiss not to mention, that in the midst of all the mayhem and unworldly disturbances, Ms. Stanley writes in a skilled tongue-in-cheek style that brings us humor as well. The angel, Abaddon, will have you in stitches. Five stars to this thrilling finale.

Knife edge Storytelling about Soulmates

Love is felt and expressed which should bode well for a happy life, but a pesky prophecy is looming. As if that wasn't bad enough, the scroll describing future events was written in an unreadable script.

The good news is the substance had been imparted. The bad news is the individual roles were not known. Will all become clear in time to have success or will there be A Grim Ending ?

Rachel Stanley wraps up Emma's story in a compelling package.

A satisfying conclusion to this intrepid series.

A perfectly imperfect couple; a petulant Keeper of Souls and a fiery Key.
Poor Blake is still learning how to cope with the life of a human. All he knows for certain is that he loves Emma, and will do anything for her. But a prophecy has an axe swinging over their lives.

Enter some demon worshippers who kidnap his literal soulmate, and you have a firecracker of a story.

Will Blake and Emma's best friend be able to save her? Or will literally all hell break loose?

A whole host of intriguing characters with witty banter.
A great spin on the Grim Reaper.

The last book in the trilogy had many loose ends to tie up and promises to keep. As more people are let in on the secret of Emma’s mysterious new boyfriend, the stakes grow ever higher, and Blake and Emma will be tested to the extreme. Death is on the line, with an aeons-old prophecy coming into play and deliciously evil baddies at every turn.

The last book is a wonderful read from start to finish. It is satisfying and will thrill lovers of romance everywhere. I love Blake, and I hope the author delivers more about his attempts to be a “real boy” and lead a normal life—whatever one of those looks like.

I’d been looking forward to finding out how the relationship between Emma and the Grim Reaper, aka the Keeper of Souls, would be resolved. Especially when a bunch of demons and their human supporters are hellbent on using the couple’s peculiar chemistry to cast open a portal to hell and storm Earth once again…

A Grim Ending deftly brings us to a nail-biting conclusion with a good deal of human insight and a smattering of friendly humour. Once again the angel Abbaddon provides a star turn, longing for a return to the good old days of scrapping with demons and having amusing incarnations from armour-plated Amazon warrior to… no spoilers! And as always the friendship between Ellie, now dating Emma’s hugely helpful brother, Scott, and Emma is delightful and well observed. But of course, at the heart of it all is the romantic relationship between Emma and Blake. Will they ever be able to live a normal life together? Read this highly enjoyable climax to the series and find out!
