Shadow Pack #3

Shadow Queen

Rate this book
The Crawford family has underestimated me again.
But this time, it's not just about vengeance; it's about safeguarding my future and protecting the family I hold dear.
And Zeek—the sinister brother of my former best friend—has no idea what my sister is capable of.
Justice must be served.
The past may haunt me, but I'm determined to leave it behind.
Even if it means a fresh start for not only the Shadow Pack, but other packs, too.
The battle for a new beginning has just begun.

Shadow Queen is a full-length rejected mates, wolf shifter romance. There are strong omegaverse themes throughout, so please read the author’s note. Due to the explicit language and steamy scenes, it is intended for readers 18+. While not considered a dark romance, there are darker themes present (see author's note). It is the third and final book of the Shadow Pack trilogy.

This is the final book in the Shadow Pack trilogy. The series started super strong, book 1 was entertaining and fast-paced and I enjoyed the characters and plot. The series just kind of went downhill for me with each book, but I kept reading for the overall plot and wanting to know how the story would unfold.

I am glad we got to see Adrienne and Phoenix’s HEA, this book did feel like an extended epilogue for them, with multiple flash forwards as well. I wasn’t a big fan of the intro of Dee (her sister) and Kaz’s POVs in book 2 or this one too. But not gonna lie the ending kind of had me interested in the setup for their spinoff book. 😅

This book is one giant epilogue and it’s so freaking long and boring. I feel like I skimmed and skipped the entire thing. This could’ve been wrapped up in book two, no point in this book. None.

Shadow Queen by K Easton

5/5 ⭐️
Steam: 4.5/5
Strong Language: 3/5
Characters: 5/5
Plot: 4.5/5

Shadow Queen is the much anticipated conclusion to the Shadow Pack trilogy by K Easton (Amanda Richardson’s paranormal pen name). The books must be read in order for maximum enjoyment.

The story picks up where the dramatic cliffhanger from Book 2 left us. Kaz and Deirdre are in peril and must work together to find a means of escape. In doing so, there are life-altering real world and unexpected magical complications that the two will now have to face. These two have been circling each other for the entire trilogy and their chemistry is off the charts.

Back in Shadow Pack Territory, Adrienne’s latest heat also has life changing news for her and Phoenix. The pair have succeeded in expanding their family. Now they must work even harder to make sure that their growing family and pack lands are safe. As we have learned from the first two books, this is easier said than done. Pack politics are ever changing.

Shadow Queen was a great read. It beautifully wrapped up Adri and Phoenix’s storyline while deliciously teasing us with fantastic side characters, all of whom are worthy of their own books. The drama and intrigue kept you guessing. The steam was high. At the center of it all was the love story between Phoenix and Adri. Their bond, something that has been unique and amazing as it has grown and developed over the three books, was a pleasure and joy to read about.

3⭐️ 2🌶️

Hmm, this felt more about setting up Dee and Kaz’s book.

I loved the HEA that Adri and Phoenix get, and watching how soft Phoenix gets when it comes to his mate. Sadly, it felt extremely overshadowed by everything going on with D&K.

I say this because anything “major” happening, it’s about/involves D&K while Adri and Phoenix seem to just attend one meeting and then have sex most of the book. (Which was yum🤌🏻💋✨ don’t get me wrong)

I am curious about the next installment of this world, but would’ve preferred book three focusing mainly on Adri and Phoenix.

Unfortunately, this series didn't get better. I found this book a little pointless.

This book is again about 2 characters wanting each other but can't because she's only 17.
The rest is about expecting twins.

It's a shame as i really enjoyed the first book i this series

This was a good ending to Phoenix and Adri’s story. There was less drama than the other books, but I actually enjoyed that.

However, can we talk about Epilogue 2?! Don’t read on, unless you want spoilers….

OMG?! Dee stays gone for 7 years and ghosts Kaz?! Idk if I’ll even be able to read their story because I’m so shocked and traumatized by that. I was Team Dee but now I want to see Kaz happy with someone else. Although kudos to the author for drop-kicking us off the cliff with that massive cliffhanger. 😱

This was a fun spicy paranormal romance read. I devoured the series in a matter of days. The plot was good, dark in parts but I do like that with my books. This series does feel unfinished with Dee and Kaz and I have looked for their book but can't see any mention of it. I do recommend this series but would like to see a final book to finish off the Dee and Kaz storyline.

This series progressively got worse.
The "banter" in book three is so juvenile I skimmed most of this story.
The writing was lackluster, the plot drawn out, and the characters one dimensional.
I can see this series as being the reason I get turned off romances again.

was it good? yes. did it need to exist? no.

this was just like an extended epilogue for one couple and a set up for a whole new series with the other couple. it was a useless book imo.

Ahhhh, the epic conclusion of an amazing trilogy!!! K. Easton’s writing keeps getting better and better!

This book picks up right where book 2 left us on the cliff 🤣

The story of Phoenix and Adri wrap up beautifully, but I’m not giving any spoilers. The drama, the STEAM, and the love between them evolved perfectly through the trilogy. I couldn’t be happier with this series!!!

So first the good, I enjoyed that this was kind of an extended epilogue for a couple I liked. The writing was fine, world building could’ve been more robust but hey, not everything needs to be 40,000 pages lol.

Aside from that there wasn’t really a point to the book other than to set up her next series. If it wasn’t so short I would’ve abandoned it. I’m not entirely sure why we had to have a whole third book for nothing to really happen.

The only real difference between the beginning and the end, everyone is a few years older and there are a few kids running around. Nothing of consequence happened, I’m pretty annoyed that this was really just a prequel to the authors next series and what looked like a good ending for everyone was blown up in the last two pages just to make you want to read the next series it was unnecessary.

Shifters (only)/Rejected Fated Mate/Enemies to Lovers/4 PoVs

SYNOPSIS (of Trilogy): The story is set in a modern world where humans do not know that shifters exist. The FC, Adrienne, is a shifter brought up in the Willow Creek Pack and engaged to Zade, the son of the pack Alpha. The Willow Creek Pack have been at peace with the Shadow Pack for years and each year the pact is ratified. When the Shadow Pack Alpha, Phoenix comes to ratify the pact it turns out that Adrienne is his fated mate. He rejects her and returns home. Subsequently Adrienne discovers she is adopted and, feeling betrayed, leaves the Willow Creek Pack and heads to the Shadow Pack lands. The trilogy covers how Adrienne and Phoenix find each other and come together and how her fiancé tries to get her back. Book 1 focuses on Adrienne and Phoenix however Book 2 & 3 extend to Deidre and Kaz so there are 4 PoVs. Adrienne and Phoenix‘s story is dealt with in this trilogy and there is a HEA but Deidre and Kaz‘s relationship is left open at the end of Book 3.

Heat level 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 - the sex scenes are well written with a good level of heat and sexiness but do not overtake the story in terms of the number of such scenes. They‘re all pretty vanilla but still sexy.

The trilogy is well written and there are limited editing and typing issues. Book 1 started off strong with a good storyline and a slight cliffhanger ending (each book has a cliffhanger ending). The FC is likeable and strong and the MC is a possessive alpha who, in respect of threats, is strong and willing to kill he otherwise comes across as quite soft and romantic especially with the FC. The author develops the MC/FC relationship well and you feel the connection grow and strengthen between them. There is a decent level of world setting but not huge amounts of depth. Aside from some of the history between Shadow and Willow Creek Packs the focus is on present time events.

I found the trilogy hard to buy into as each book seemed to have its own dramatic story arc, Book 1 focussed on the fated mate element of the FC/MC, Book 2 focussed on the ex fiancé wanting to get the FC back and Book 3 focussed on Deidre. Whilst Book 1 and most of 2 focussed on Adrienne and Phoenix Book 2 also introduced PoVs from Deidre & Kaz and their interactions. It was like the real story of Adrienne and Phoenix finished in Book 2 but there were still elements that carried through to the end of Book 3 but the emphasis switched. It felt a disjointed with the author inserting lots of different events that then happened quickly with not a huge amount of development.

There were some gaps/unfinished issues around the story with the biggest for me being why no one really delved into the illegal adoptions and what they were all about. It’s as if the author forgot they had introduced that element of the storyline and especially the bit where the author implied that Adrienne‘s adoption was not random. In addition, why would the FC not question her parents about the adoption and why they did what they did? There seemed to very little of anyone questioning the FC‘s adoptive parents about any of their actions.

In general this trilogy was enjoyable but not a keeper for me as it was a bit too fast, to full of different things happening and lacking in depth in places.

I’m leaving this review for the trilogy and not just the first book

I adored this series!! I was hesitant in the beginning to like Zade but he grew on me during book 1. He never pushed Adri to accept the betrothal or to do anything really.

My heart wanted to break when Phoenix rejected Adri but I honestly couldn’t be too mad because he gave her the option even tho she didn’t understand that it was an ultimatum at the time. I can’t believe the amount of LIES her family told her and Dee! Both of those poor girls! You don’t find out about Dee’s issues until book 3 tho.

The angst between Phoenix and Adri was awful…in a good way. I cannot believe the amount of times he walked away from her! I wanted to smack him so bad! For supposedly being able to read each other’s feelings…he sucked at it. He should have been on his knees in agony after he helped her during her first heat and he walked away. Ugh!!

Zade turned out to be an absolute douche canoe!!!!! I feel bad for him in a way because of the situation but then again I don’t. He loved Adri in his own way and they were BFF’s. But she was betrayed by him! He KNEW she was ‘adopted’ for YEARS and never told her. That’s on him!!! Adri had every right to run and find herself after all the betrayals from everyone she loves.

Once Phoenix and Adri accepted the mate bond…amazing!!! The love was amazing between them. He is a doting mate and does anything and everything for Adri. I was ecstatic to learn they were pregnant and going to have twins in book 3!! The fact they named the boy ‘West’ made me happy. Adri did so much to honor Phoenix and his friends.

I am beyond excited to read the spin-off with Dee and Kaz! I was honestly so stunned to read the epilogue and see that she essentially ignored him for SEVEN fucking years!!! And then she had the gall to get upset at him when he denied her?!?! Bitch no thank you!! He was willing to wait for you! And you cut off all contact. Ugh! Entitled little turd! But I NEED to know the backstory and why she did it. I can’t rest until I know. There has to be an explanation.

I highly recommend this series!! It’s def a cross between shifter and omegaverse but it’s a nice combo.

Lesson in a good book making an awful series

We started book one with an FMC that had strength, intelligence (despite the limitations of her hometown education system) and humor. We had an MMC who was caring and selfless, loyal and honest. The storyline had great potential. In book two some red flags started popping up; odd twists and unnecessary turns, characters went a bit off track but the story was still trucking along. Book three has just crashed out in a blaze of ill conceived insanity.

Why shove Kaz and Dee into the focus just to end the book with the world's most terrible and obnoxious cliffhanger? It doesn't make me at all interested in their story continuing the series. Valen was the most consistently useless character in the book (he added zero value to the story and his manwh@re blather just made me dislike him). Adri and Phoenix just became obnoxiously incapable to see past their own genitals, in the most inappropriate times and places.

The back and forth POVs are actually detrimental to the story in this one. Just when someone gets to a bloody point, it snaps to someone else without giving us the details. The time line goes oddly wonky, especially around the disappearance and return of Kaz and Dee. The author got messy and started to slip on a lot of details as well, making things like the weird timing seem like true errors by the author instead of just vagueness. How was Valen driving while sitting in the middle within one page of text? Come on. Pay an editor or something.

There are a million little weird side threads that go nowhere, a million bad choices that are inexplicable, and a million pages of people being self-centered fools. Nora is the only series long character I don't despise at this point.

~ breeding/babies
~ Dee/Kaz (18/34)

I liked this book better than the last, this felt more relationship driven. We got to meet some interesting new characters who I hope have spin offs - Cyrus and bro I’m looking at you.

This was basically an extended epilogue with some fun breeding and babies from Phoenix and Adri, more shocking family secrets, more relationship drama from Kaz/Dee.

Honestly, I just wanted to knock them both on the head. I was disappointed their friends didn’t interfere more to make them see what idiots they were being, especially given the age gap between Phoenix and Adri. Unfortunately that ending…, I think Kaz deserves better.

Dees character doesn’t even sound like her at the end and we’re supposed to believe she never once visited her sister niece or nephews in 6 years?

I’m not sure I’m invested in Dees/Kaz story enough to read it, but I’m a sucker so probably will anyway. I hope he keeps giving her the cold shoulder and she really has to GROVEL to win him back. I’m good with some ow interest as well (no cheating) just to show Dee she can’t waltz in and expect him to fall at her feet. However, if Dees character continues in the same way as the epilogue I don’t have any interest in reading about her so we’ll wait on spoilers.

Also the author keeps saying it was seven years when the epilogue literally says Six Years later.

Wow the epilogue ruined this entire trilogy

So in summary this trilogy gives me ACOTAR with wolves vibes. Lots of smut, frankly a bit too much at times that I skipped it. The story was interesting enough and I actually appreciated there was no big battle scenes and it was all handled politically.

That being said, Kaz and Deidre story was absolutely horrible. I understood their struggle and I actually enjoyed their chapters because it was interesting while still progressing the main story along.

Unfortunately I hate when authors do epilogues that are years ahead. Just end the story already. I won't be reading Kaz and Deidre spin off because it's just a money grab. Their side love story could've been wrapped up in a few extra chapters in this book but nope. Not to mention the epilogue scene literally made Deidre the worst person on the planet. 7 years she left her mate, the man who wanted to be with her and said they could take it slow because she was so young (even though her sister was having a baby at 18 too just saying). I literally almost threw my Kindle when I read the epilogue. Yeah honey he didn't mean 7 years to take it slow. That's just dumb and she had zero excuse for it. I loved her fiery character through the trilogy and now with one chapter she turned into a selfish coward ... Ugh

ARC Review of Shadow Queen by K. Easton
* * * * *
The final book and I am still drooling for more of this world this author has created, especially when you know there is more to come! First, however, this read is without a doubt a wild ride by itself!

Adri and Pheonix thought they had found their happy ending, until they are shocked with the kidnapping of Dee and Kaz.
Enemies are poping back up and stricking, and not at the best time either!
Pheonix and Adri fight for their pack, to save their family, as well as few other sweet and disturbing surprises along the way.

Loved the finale of this couple and the introduction to what is to come.
We are delievered with a shocking revelation after an even more shocking event that lead to death and an unbreakable bond. Like woah! Drop an epic bomb like that and it really questions some choices by certain people...I AM NOT GOING TO SPOIL! You will know as soon as you read it!
As much as I was loving our original couple, a lot of the book was more focused on another relationship. Honestly, as much as I loved it, was waiting to see some more drama from Adri and Pheonix especially with their life now taking on a major change.
Cannot wait for what happens next!

This book was, quite frankly, a mess. This shouldn't have been a trilogy at all, as there certainly wasn't enough story or content to fill 3 books. I had such high hopes to read about Dee and Kaz, but then we get... this.

The cliffhanger from ths other book god resolved fairly early on, and then after that, there really wasn't anything happening. There was no more plot to sustain a book in there.

What it felt like was a super long epilogue for Phoenix and Adri, and then sprinkle in the story beginning for Kaz and Dee. Throw all of that into a book, and that is what this feels like. Only. we don't get enough of story with Kaz and Dee, and then the actual epilogue just leaves us hanging.

I am really wanting Kaz and Dee's story, and supposedly it is coming. Well, it has been a couple years now, so the promises of the author that their book is coming are ringing hollow, especially since they have had other books come out since.

I was just so done with Phoenix and Adri in this book. There wasn't anything really going on, it was all just about her pregnancy, which I could have skipped.

I give this 2.5 stars, generously, but round it down to 2.

This is the final book of the Shadow Pack trilogy and is an amazing conclusion to Adri and Phoenix's story... but just the beginning for Deirdre and Kaz. I can't say too much without giving away spoilers from books one and two, but this trilogy is amazing!

This trilogy begins with Adrienne finding out that she had been betrothed to her best friend and the future alpha of their pack, Zade since they were babies. She had never really filled a part of her family or the pack since she was so different in coloring and when she finds out that not only is her moon-fated mate the feared alpha of the Shadow pack, but she learns all the lies told by her family and she flees to find out who she really is.

This book is action-packed and full of danger and smoking hot. There are more twists and turns as further secrets are uncovered. Although this book ends with an HEA for Adri and Phoenix it does leave us a surprising twist and cliffhanger for a future story involving Deirdre and Kaz.

Highly recommend this series! I look forward to reading more by K Easton in the future!

Ok this book is a strong 3.75 stars for me. There are a few different reasons why. BUT 1st let me say I truly did enjoy reading about Adri and Phoenix. If there were ever 2 characters that deserved a happily ever after it is definitely these two. They both have been through so much with all the lies and manipulation that they deserve a happy life! The questions that we were left with from books 1 & 2 do get answered which is great.
It is a fast paced story that I did enjoy the only downfall (and maybe downfall is not the correct word to use) is the story within the story we have going on with Dee and Kaz. AND no it is not a bad thing at all I just felt like it was used as a filler. I understand the initial part as to why they are added, but I am not going to lie I thought we would get their story. It was like there isn't much else we can say about what could be going on with Adri and Phoenix so we need to add the angst of what will Kaz and Dee's story to this.

I enjoyed this story so much from book one all the way to this third book. Part One of the story caught us back up on where we left off with Adri and Phoenix and what happened at their wedding. We get to see more of Kaz and Deirdre and what they are going through. As we get to Part Two, we explore more of Dee’s story and her growth and see the growing relationship of Adri and Phoenix. It was a sweet and subtle conclusion to Adri and Phoenix’s journey. And we got a glimpse into their future (six years later epilogue) which I love! I love when authors show us how it all turned out years later for our couple /family. This book was full of emotions, especially towards the end. It was closure for Adri and Phoenix as well as a new beginning for their families. It was the perfect way to end their story. And a wonderful beginning to Kaz and Dee who I can’t wait to see more of ESPECIALLY AFTER THAT SECOND EPILOGUE!!

(4 Stars)

OK, this is book three of the series, this starts right where book two left off Deirdre and Kaz being kidnapped and Adri reading the note. I will say you MUST read the previous stories before this, as they just flow from one to the next. Now, I wasn't sure what we were getting with this read, I was really hoping for it to be Dee and Kaz's story seeing as Adri and Pheonix are now living their HEA but what we got was more like an extended epilogue for the two, and breadcrumbs to tease us along to the next installment, which we are assured will be about Dee and Kaz. Yes, there is some action, but it actually plays a small part. I can't wait to see how Deirdre and Kaz's story plays out, but for the third installment of the series, I found it just ok and felt a bit let down, so it gets 4 stars.

The final book in this Shadow Pack trilogy, but certainly not the end of the road for this world, there is definitely more to come!

We pick up where we left off, with Dee and Kaz having been kidnapped with the intent to force a soul bond with Dee. Adri and Phoenix and their pack have to get their family back!

In the meantime Adri goes into heat again, with Phoenix feeling bad he didn't get to give her what she wanted during her first heat, he takes her away to spend some time alone - get ready for some kindle melting time!

A lot of this book is told from Dee and Kaz's POV, and we get a lot of their story in this one - not going to give much away here.

I enjoyed this, there isn't quite as much action or suspense in this one as the previous two, we get more of a relaxed sense from Phoenix and Adri - but I am looking forward to more from this world.

This is the conclusion to a trilogy. You will need to read the first two books to be able to follow along in this one. This wraps up Phoenix and Adri story line.

We get lots of pack action in this. A re-writing so to speak of the wolf world with a new generation of Alpha's. I loved that Adri and Phoenix finally go t some time to just be then as a couple. I was not a fan of the whole Dee and Kaz story line I found my self skipping over some parts so I could get back to Adri. I understand Dee's role in the future and how she was helping the packs and magic users. I didn't need so m any chapter setting up what is going to be another book of the spun off this series.

Just an ok read but a great conclusion for the original pair.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved books 1 & 2, but 3… really pissed me off. For started the typos! So many typos. Like so freaking many. Did anyone proofread this? Also at on point the author of this book misspells the MFCs name. It’s Adrienne not Adrian. So that was really annoying stumbling upon that. All of a sudden we don’t know how to spell the MFCs name???? I also was getting annoyed with Kaz & Deirdre’s(sorry if I misspelt) BS. That cliff hanger really made me angry cause now I’m gonna wanna read about their story and find out WTH happened. SPOILER……

7 years???? Like wtf. How? They had no contact for 7 years. That’s insane! How do you kiss and almost f*** and boom no contact.

Like I said, I really loved 1 & 2. I honestly would have DNF’d but since I read 1 & 2 I had to know what happened in 3. Could have been a lot better in my opinion.

Picked up a lot of grammatical errors in this book like it was pushed out without real thought or proper editing. The rushed pregnancy of an 18 year old with a 32 year old was my least favorite part especially because she was very vocal in the beginning about wanting to get a degree before even considering starting a family. Then the barely 17 year old sister of the FMC mating with the MMC best friend, another 32 year old man was just not up my alley, really shouldn’t be up anyone’s. Apart from those major red flags the trilogy was short and sweet, a decent palette cleanser between heavier series if you pretend like they are all adults closer in age. Still debating on reading the spin off, now that it’s years in the future with her being 25 and him 40. Actually, that still makes me cringe a bit. Moving on!

This series has been such a wild ride! Shadow Queen picks up right where Shadow Bride ends, and I'm so glad we did not have to wait to see what happens!

There are a few new twists and turns in this book that made it hard to put down. We get to see Adri and Phoenix really cement their relationship, and after so many ups and downs, I felt like this was a very satisfying conclusion to their story.

About half the book is from the POV of Dee and Kaz, but unlike the first book, this time around, they are branching off on their own journeys.

I want to give Amanda Richardson writing as K. Easton a huge thank you for an advanced copy of Shadow Queen to read! I can't wait to see what comes next for the Shadow Pack!

Let me just start by saying that I am a huge fan of Amanda Richardsons writing ( in fact she happens to be one of my very favorite authors. But truth told I’m not usually a lover of paranormal or fantasy romances so I was a bit hesitant to sign up for The Shadow Pack Series. Well I decided to give it a shot and all I can say is Best Choice I Ever Made . In fact from the moment I picked up the very first book I was hooked . Shadow Queen is the conclusion to Adri and Phoenix’s journey . A journey that’s filled with new revelations, twists and turns, oh so steamy moments, angst , witty banter , drama , enemies, secrets , phenomenal world building, family , friendships, and some of the most captivating, unique and multi layered characters. It’s one heck of a ride
