I'm still put off by the impossible "science" of these storms. A lot of the action, especially with Jamal/Phoenix and gang, is told in excruciating detail and resembles a long chase from Mario Kart. Phoenix and friends are among some of the less entertaining parts of the story. We are told over and over and over (!) that Phoenix, a fragile person, refuses to take her meds. The banter of her roommates grew tedious long ago and Jamal is a saint for not leaving the lot of them on the road. What possessed him to bring any of them on a rescue mission? The other two groups are more interesting in their journey. I had initially scoffed at the underground denizens of Las Vegas until I decided to look it up; wow, there are people who do live there, the Mole People. Great to learn something new! I am very disgruntled with the depiction of the National Guard as thugs who knowingly were herding surviving Americans (after millions have died) into an inescapable zone, so they can't strain resources from the luckier eastern states, so that the storm might kill them and solve that problem, and are willing to shoot at them when a panicked mob surges. I simply don't believe they would willing follow orders like that. Just no. The escape of Nancy and her group was unique and exciting, if a bit improbable. Despite my consternation with some of this story, I will continue to see what happens.

Storm Front Book 2 by Tim Marquitz and Mike Kraus, Charred, could be the script of a disaster movie called Vegas Burning, as literally the whole of the Strip and the city beyond is destroyed by an unstoppable mega-firestorm.
What triggered this Apocalyptic disaster?

In intertwining storylines, families have been torn asunder and have to overcome deadly obstacles, both human and natural, to reunite.
Who gets help from an unexpected source?
Where are groups of survivors held by FEMA?

Incredible, breathtaking events, amazingly believable characters and storylines, in an Armageddon-like disaster, that sees everything familiar being destroyed by a firestorm such as the world has never seen before, are here for your entertainment and Tim Marquitz and Mike Kraus' Charred will keep you riveted to the edge of your chair throughout.
