Circle Round
When Chris MacDonald returns to his small hometown of Chapmansville, North Carolina after a difficult-turned-tragic year teaching in impoverished Appalachia, he intends to never even go near the mountains again.
Five years of teaching at the town elementary school gives him his comfortable life back, but this is shattered by the arrival of a new student. Calie Coburn is not only from an area similar to the one he fled, but she also belongs to the infamous mountain family his family feuded with years before.
He plans to limit his involvement with the Coburn family, but his Christian principles soon compel him to do otherwise. The ensuing friendship that he builds with Calie's single mother, Ruth-Ann, is also not without difficulties as they weather misunderstandings between them, opposition to their relationship by family and friends, and the difficult memories that the Coburns’ presence in his life bring back. This culminates when he finds himself in the same situation that ended in disaster and necessitated his leaving the mountains.
In spite of everything, Chris relies on his perseverance and faith to lead him, and in doing so, comes to reap blessings he never expected.

I have read and re-read this several times, and enjoy it every time. Like many others who have read it, I am hoping for a sequel one day!
