It’s been a year since Skylahr Reed was crowned Chosen of the Huntress, and while Elrin continues to prosper under her reign, the ghosts of the past remain heavy on her heart. But as Gaelon, her comrade and the Healer’s Chosen, attempts to rebuild the land after the Crimson’s desolation, the tides begin to turn and rumors of a dangerous uprising continue to spread.
Not everyone is convinced the Huntress chose wisely, but Skylahr is willing to do anything to prove she is worthy of her title, and this may be her chance. Will Skylahr be able to protect those she loves? And what about Kalian, the man who not only betrayed her trust but also shattered her heart?
Author K. Godin lives in beautiful Ontario Canada, with her husband and four dogs. When she isn’t hiding in her office typing away, she spends her time reading, painting, or daydreaming of the fictional worlds she gets lost in.
Her passion for writing started early, and she has always had a knack for it. She excelled in her high school English classes and decided to pursue a general arts degree after graduation. However, after her first year, she knew that college just wasn’t for her and found herself working for a local animal shelter. After spending nearly a decade there, she decided to change her career path and started her own business all while creating those fantastic stories in her mind once again.
I’ll figure out how to write my review for this as soon as I can stop screaming.
Edit to add— I’m back and I have thoughts. Legend of the Huntress was one of my top fantasy reads last year and Summoning of the Siren was such a fantastic sequel! The refresher in the beginning of the book was so helpful (can more authors do this— please!). This installment starts off slow as we catch up to everything that’s happened since LOTH, but it doesn’t take long for the action to pick up and once it does you’re basically holding your breathe for the rest of the book. I was so anxious about what would happen next. There were so many high stakes! I laughed, I cried - wheeew, did I cry - and I loved every bit of it.
I was so happy to be back to Sky’s antics with her friends. I absolutely adore Ella, Elizabeth, and Barrick and the camaraderie and banter between the group. I enjoyed getting deeper looks into various characters and Sky’s growth in her time as the Huntress’ Chosen.
Without giving any spoilers as to how we get where we get, just know the spice goes up a notch. 😉 10/10 on switching it up to dual pov. I LOVED that!!
I will be dying a little inside until I’m able to know what happens next because WOW THAT ENDING!
I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. 🖤
One of my most anticipated sequels and reads of 2023 and it did not disappoint! This was an amazing sequel to Legend of the Huntress.
Summoning of the Siren starts roughly a year after the end of the events in LOTH. We find our Skylahr struggling with the expectations and rolls the courts have for the Huntress' Chosen. On the eve of an assassination attempt, the Healer returns from his latest trip earlier than expect with a haunted look in his eyes. It is with the Healer she learns that ships have started to disappear without a trace from the waters, making trading not only dangerous but near impossible. Skylahr jumps on the opportunity to investigate the Healers claims of an ancient beast terrorizing the seas and takes her companions on a quest, a quest that will alter their group forever.
Summoning of the Siren is split into two parts, first Skylahr's POV and then to our counterpart. It is an interesting take on Dual POV and I actually appreciated the break being done this way. Like in LOTH Skylahr has to navigate a lot of troubling personal issues, she is still struggling with her imposters syndrome, her self esteem and grief. Though here in this book we see her growing and finding herself in her roll. We see vulnerability in multiple characters and I thoroughly appreciate the depth K. Godin has added to her characters, you feel with them and for them.
With the emotional we still get tons of action and some surprising twist with a cliffhanger ending that I absolutely did not see coming. K. Godin did not fail and delivered an equally consuming sequel to accompany Legend of the Huntress. I already cannot wait for Book 3!
If you have any concerns about continuing with this book series, don't! if you are a fantasy lover you will not regret it!
Thank you K. Godin for delivering me the honor of an Arc of this book. I thoroughly loved it.
This book, y’all, this. Freaking. Book! Summoning of the Siren was everything a second book in a fantasy series should be. This book follows after the events of Legend of the Huntress, and we see Skylahr navigating her roll as the Huntress’s Chosen with the help of Gaelon and her friends. I love being in Skylahr’s head, even though her thoughts are sometimes dark or sad, the way K. Godin writes her inner monologue is truly beautiful. The depth of her character and the layers we get to see in this book were all done so well. I fell in love with the side characters; their banter, personalities, and relationship with Skylahr really added so much to the book. Now to the story… After Gaelon has a dangerous experience at sea, Skylahr and her friends must journey to where they believe the source of the problem to be. Along the way, Skylahr is unexpectedly reunited with some familiar faces, and despite his betrayal in Legend of the Huntress, Skylahr and Kalian find themselves unable to stay away from each other. The revelations at the end of the book have me absolutely starving for the next book in the series— Like, I NEED it! Skylahr is no stranger to tragedy, and that is no different in this book. I was brought to tears a few times and my heart truly ached for her. Summoning of the Siren is jam-packed with some of my favorite things— adventure and quest elements, battles that had my heart racing, romance and spice, strong world building, dual POV 👀, and a surprising twist. I find K. Godin’s writing style to be truly beautiful. It is lyrical, descriptive, and full of deep imagery that adds so much to story and the series. Thank you, K. Godin for sending me an ARC and sharing Sky’s story with me! Summoning of the Siren is adult fantasy romance, 18+ for sexual content and themes.
While this book starts off slow, once it starts- it doesn’t stop! This is such an amazing sequel! And it continues the story of our Huntress’ chosen Skyhlar and how she has come into her own, continued to heal from her heartbreak, and follows her journey of protecting the peace from the evil that continues to plague her world. I was wholly unprepared for that ending and I’m still reeling! You got us good K Godin!
What you can expect:
🔱 Prophecies, Gods, magical beings 🔱 Found family 🔱 Strong, warrior, plus-sized FMC 🔱 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 🔱 Adventure and quests 🔱 Hidden identities
LotH was a top read for me and this sequel is spectacular! If you haven’t read this series, move it up on your TBR because it’s a must read! Just be prepared to be in your feelings 🥹
This is the sequel I've been waiting for! I loved Legend of the Huntress, and this book did not disappoint in the slightest. I greatly enjoyed the two POVs, which was a fun change from its prequel.
This book has everything: in-story mythology, fight scenes, steamy romance, and an ending that will leave you screaming for all the right reasons. Skylahr is one of the best female protagonists I've read, and when I say I can't wait to find out what happens next to her, I mean, I CANNOT wait!
THIS BOOK!!! This series is so underrated, I really hope more people start reading it because it's SO GOOD!
I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to actually write a review, but it's still living in my brain weeks later!
Summoning of the Siren is a great followup to Legend of the Huntress! I really enjoyed getting to know all the characters more, and following Sky's growth as she navigates her new responsibilities and roles. I love how we learn more about the world and the lore, but I'm greedy and I still want more!!!
This book kind of lures you into a false sense of security because the beginning is not super action packed, but then the action starts and it does not stop.
ALSO!!! Dual POV!!! What a blessing. And pleaseeeee the spice??? I've been a Kalian fan since day 1, and I won't spoil what happens but.... I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Lastly-- THAT ENDING? EXCUSE ME??!!
Sidenote: This book has a recap of book 1 in the beginning!!! Why don't more authors do this??? This was so nice to have.
Wow. Just. Wow. This was a highly anticipated read for me this year and it did not disappoint in the slightest.
Summoning of the Siren is a high fantasy book through and through and to say I am impressed with K Godin's writing skill would be an understatement. The dual POV, switching halfway through the book, is no easy feat but Godin seems to conquer this with ease. Characters in this book are explored so much more than in the previous book and you really see the power struggle with Skylahr as she struggles to be what she perceives as good and right compared to what she actually wants to be. I love how we see her starting to go from following Gaelon, Kalian, and other influential character's lead and really coming into her own. I don't feel like Skylahr is 100% standing on her own quite yet, but her journey seems far from over and I am excited to see how she continues to develop. In addition, we get a unique insight to Kalian and his own struggles which was surprising and refreshing to see. From Skylahr's POV, we only really see how strong he is but from his own POV we see his own internal struggles and how much Skylahr, his people, and his role as the Protector's Chosen mean to him.
The storyline is just phenomenal. This is a very large world that is being explored within this series, but I feel like the world building of K Godin is consistently amazing. She guides us through this world with intricate plots that make it easy to remember and follow through the book. I often find that high fantasy novels struggle with world building, but once again Godin excels at this!
Overall, this is everything a sequel is supposed to be, although it is slow at times. It is entertaining, exhilarating, and most of all an enchanting read. K Godin's writing from LOTH only gets better in Summoning of the Siren and you truly feel like you are on this journey with Skylahr, Kalian, Barrick, etc. Easily one of my top reads of the year.
(As a note I was given an e-arc in exchange for an honest review and I am SO thankful for this arc as this was even better than I could have ever expected)
This book took a very long time to get going. Skylahr and her friends, the gods’ chosen attempted to solve a mysterious and deadly new threat, traveled up and down the coastline of Elmira, and Sky faced misogyny as she attempted to rule as the Huntress’ Chosen alongside the Healer.
I ended up skimming the first 200+ pages. I think it all could have been edited way down. Sky is not a political leader; she only knows how to lead by example and force, with a sword in her hand and a bow at her back. She throws herself at danger at every turn, with zero regard for herself and those around her. Therefore, she was ill-suited to the roles others were forcing her into during the first half of the book. Gaelon, for all of his empathy and ability to see people and heal their pain, never learned that how to do so for Sky. He came across as oddly sulky and disjointed. It took Kalian re-entering—after a grueling nearly 300 pages of text where he was wholly absent—to help Sky be who she truly is.
The last half of the book is the best part. We got some much needed groveling, great spice, a hardened, fearsome Sky, and a journey to a new and horrifying part of the world. We also got Kalian’s perspective, which drove the entire final third of the book and improved it.
The book ends in a cliffhanger, which is not my favorite. But it also ends by redeeming itself and I can forgive the first 300 pages entirely. Additionally, and with a few exceptions (such as the completely overused “however” and long-winded sentence and paragraph structure), this book is much better written than Book 1. It felt like K. Godin has hit her stride.
4⭐️ Well, to say that I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. Summoning of the Siren is the second book in The Chosen series, a fantasy world full of magic, action, gods and deadly creatures. I’ve waited for this book for so long and the wait was definitely worth it because IT WAS ONE HELL OF A RIDE. Kyla, you truly are a goddess😭
I don’t wanna spoil anything from Legend of the Huntress (book 1), so I won’t go much into detail, but I loved seeing Skylahr’s character development in this book after what happened with Kalian in the previous one👀 She was trying so hard to fulfill everyone’s expectations from her, that she forgot she was a human too… My heart broke for her at times, but seeing that she had such amazing friends made my broken heart flutter again. FOUND FAMILY Y’ALL! This book genuinely has one of the best found family tropes I’ve ever read. The groveling, the pining… ughhh I loved how dedicated Kalian was to win Skylahr’s heart back. Oh and the spice was even better than the one in book 1, I was speechless because of how hot some scenes were🥵
The pacing was a bit slow at the beginning, but don’t let that fool you. Because y’all… the action in the second half of it, the TWISTS… Holy hell, Kyla🫠 I’m still at a loss for words because of a certain thing, you know what I’m talking about!! And the ending blew my mind, I really didn’t see that… thing coming.
Overall, if you’re looking for a new adult romantasy series, then this is your sign to read The Chosen series! I HIGHLY recommend it, you won’t be disappointed✨⚔️
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
What a fantastic sequel! The author has improved so much with their story telling and writing. There was action, adventure, revelations, and plot twists.
Summoning of the Siren starts about a year after the events of Legend of the Huntress. The beginning was a little slow like the previous book, but it lays the foundation of what is to come. We are introduced to some new characters but it is mostly the same group of characters from LOTH. Skylahr's confidence in herself is still a little rocky, but it seems to improve a smidgen every so often. It is refreshing to read about a character that shares a lot of the same insecurities but at the same time I want to yell at her and say she is a major badass. It is very relatable.
The author made some bold changes to the story telling and I am here for it! The first book only had the solo POV from Skylahr's perspective. I absolutely loved that the author went with the change of adding a new POV to the story. Having dual POV allows the reader to have an outsiders perspective from the main character's inner thoughts. The last couple of chapters had me at the edge of my seat and I gasped at so many secrets coming to light. Also, the cliff hanger at the end of this book is pure evil.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot and can't wait for the next installment!
This was a phenomenal sequel to Legend of the Huntress. Similar to LOTH, this book started a bit slow. We know from book 1 that Sky really struggles with self confidence and that continues in this book. However it is so great to see how she progresses and gains confidence as time goes on. Once the main characters leave the first locale the pace starts to pick up and the story becomes addictive.
I did NOT see the ending twist coming, though I did pick up on the hints being laid, I was unable to put them together for the correct answer. Super fun because it keeps you thinking the whole way through.
I loved that this book was dual POV and even better that it didn’t continually jump back and forth but instead allowed us to sit with each character for a longer duration and really gain an understanding of their thought patterns and perspective.
The plot is great because there are major stakes involved. You will feel the heartbreak, and you will love the spice. And you will be left gasping for more because of course we are left on a cliffhanger.
Overall vibes reminded me a bit of Skull Island (mysterious misty island with unknown creatures and danger) and a bit of almost Indiana Jones in a funny way. These are all positives!
Full disclosure I was pleasantly surprised to receive this as an e-ARC.
"My love for her was more than I had ever imagined it could be, and the power of it left me breathless."
Finally, the sequel to Legend of the Huntress is here! I fell in love with Skylahr in the first book, and Summoning of the Siren was high up on my anticipated reads this year.
Roughly a year after the events of book 1, Skylahr is struggling with the expectations of being the Huntress' Chosen. So when ships start disappearing without a trace, Skylahr jumps at the opportunity to investigate, and her companions set out on another quest that turns out to be far more dangerous than they first thought.
Summoning of the Siren is filled with action, unforgiving seas, and some possible reconciliation with a certain someone 🥰😉
"Skylahr, I will not leave you in the shadows. I will not leave you to battle this alone. So, give me your darkness and let it consume me, ruin me, and then we will journey through it until we find the light, together."
Just as good as book 1, and with the way Summoning of the Siren ended, I will be on the edge of my seat until book 3 is announced! ❤️
I would also like to thank K. Godin for the arc I received in return for an honest review!
What a fantastic sequel!! This was a highly anticipated read for me and it did not disappoint but rather exceeded my already high expectations. We got to see even more of the world, learn new lore, and get to know the characters we loved in book one even better.
The book picks up about a year after the end of Legend of the Huntress and we see Skylahr having some difficulty dealing with her new position and fitting into the immensely high expectations of her. But when called to help, she immediately answers.
Skylahr and friends then have to navigate difficult situations physically and emotionally. Dealing with ghosts of the pasts and having to choose what doors to close and which to leave open.
I so loved the vulnerability we saw in so many of the characters, K. Godin does such a phenomenal job at showing real humanity in the characters and not glossing over the hard emotional aspects of friendship and love.
I felt every emotion in this book and was wrecked in the best way possible at times. Also watching Sky grow from who she was in book 1 🥺 though for so much of this book I just wanted to wrap her in a warm blanket and tell her everything would be okay.
I cannot wait for book 3 and HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone who loves fantasy books.
Thank you to the author for the e-arc of this book. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year, and it has not disappointed me!! To say I am sad I read this so soon without the next to immediately jump into is an understatement.
I loved revisiting skylahr and everyone else, seeing them grow as people and come into themselves. K. Godin really knows how to write.
My only complaint it's the over use if the words immortal and mortal. It got confusing at times but as I got used to the system I began to place who was who.
I love that the author gave us 2 very strong perspectives and she did it will.
I strongly recommend.
Basic overview...
Following Skylahr as she learns to become a leader and all the new rules she must follow. Leading the their group attending to a call for help form one of their faraway Lords. Leading to the reunion I think I can safely say we all needed and wanted. And then onto one of the great battle scenes. (It felt very familiar but there is only some many ways to write big battles without them crossing paths)
Once again, some of the quotes in this book will live with me forever. Skylahr always makes me feel seen. I finally was able to make this edit I wanted to post with my review. I was privileged enough to get an ARC of this amazing book. I absolutely adored the first book in this series, Legend of the Huntress, so I immediately binged this one and it did not disappoint. The world building of this series is brilliant. It takes no time to understand and find yourself completely enveloped by this world. I am very much a character-based reader and K. Godin makes you love each main and side character with your whole heart. If you love fantasy, romance, enemies to lovers and want to feel the compassion and strength of a determined, loyal, and real FMC… this series is for you. Did I shed tears in this book? 100%. Did it break my heart and then give me hope just to break it all over again? Also yes. Will I be re-reading it for years to come, just like the first? Absolutely.
I will be impatiently anticipating any news about book three 🖤
This series has been so good! I am so happy I decided to read it. The FMC had been through a lot and the story tugged at the heart strings quite a bit. While I loved Shylahr the majority of the time, she would get on my nerves between being strong and confident with her skills/gifts and not having any self confidence at all. It got better with the second book but was still evident. Her relationship with Kalian is sweet. I am happy they were able to navigate the hardships eventually. It surprised me when i realized he had become a character I started to enjoy (I didn't like him at first). I loved learning about the Siren and sea creatures in the second book. I gave it 4 stars because the world building was lacking at times (but not to the point that it took away from the story) and one of my favorite characters was killed.
9/10 would recommend. I really hope there will be another book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I received an ARC of this book. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars. This world and the lore is fun and different. The writing was good IMO. I didn’t feel as attached to the characters or the character arcs as I would have liked to be for a second book. It was very plot driven, which is not my preference (I like 50/50 plot/character), but for those whom it is, this book would keep you engaged IMO. The first half of the book was pretty slow for me, it felt longer than necessary. It picked up about 60%. I really appreciated the POV switch. I was hoping to grow more fond of the FMC in this second book. I did not. I really liked the side characters though! And the MMC is wonderful. The banter was cute, the spice was good, the battle scenes suspenseful. Curious to see where the series goes. Interested to try reading this via audiobook.
I rate this book 4.25⭐️ and give it a 2🌶️ level of spicy.
K. Godin listened and she delivered. The world building in this second instalment is way better and more detailed that in the first book, which is something I appreciated.
Still love Skylahr, the FMC 😍. I truly enjoyed seeing her becoming more and more comfortable in her own skin. Specially during steamy scenes. The Healer, Gaelon, was too nice for my liking. I would have loved to see him threatening Kalian’s chances with Skylahr. That would have been an interesting triangle to watch/read.
This book has a dual POV compared with the first book, which kept things interesting. 🚨Heads-up - it ends with q cliffhanger.
K. Godin writing is superb. It’s one of my favourite fantasy authors when it comes to her writing. She has a way with words and compelling storytelling skills.
If you haven’t started this series yet, all I’m going to say is DO IT.
This story is one of my favorites because of how well K. Godin has built her world and lore but also how real Skylahr is as a character, flaws and all. She’s one of my favorites because of that.
If you’ve been sitting on starting LOTH, turn around, and jump in. You won’t regret it because you don’t want to miss out on this one either.
I think the only reason I docked a star was for some reason the pacing was a little slow for me in the beginning BUT and that is a big BUT, I think it was because I waited a while for it to be released and then I was so hyped, I just wanted to get into all the juicy parts. (Which all delivered in more ways than one 😉🌶️💜)
We have action, adventure, romance/steam 🔥, friendship, and lore. What else could you ask for in a series?!
Summoning of the Siren is exactly what a sequel is supposed to be. It expands upon the worth, provides clarity on plot threads introduced in the first installments, ups the stakes, and turns up the spice-meter to 11. I'm not sure how long I'll be in recovery but this was definitely one of those books that was so good I didn't know what to do with myself afterwards. I experienced a range of emotions reading this book. I mean it, I laughed and cried and screamed and kicked my feet reading this story. I gave the first installment 4 stars for being a stunning fantasy debut, and can confidently give the sequel five stars. My only complaint is that I don't have the next book in my hands right now.
I received Summoning of the Siren as an eARC and it was a book I was anticipating picking up. Possible spoilers below.
I found it very slow to start but it did pick up. As soon as the action picked up it was a brilliant read, although a little jumpy in places. The romance was a brilliant slow burn with plenty of chemistry, banter and a little enemies-to-lovers-esque vibes.
The found family is amazing, including any tiffs or disagreement, and a good helping of heartbreak mixed in so be warned.
I did find the last 100 pages to be fairly chaotic and not the easiest to follow, but the cliffhanger was definitely ready to make up for it.
Overall a great read and I'm excited to see where it goes next!
Well reading this was an experiment after I did not vibe with the first book.
In summary it’s barely edited (a couple of examples below but they are but a drop in the ocean of issues). The FMC is still idiotic and her unattractive looks are again mentioned on repeat which is just infuriating. It’s also predictable.
Examples of lack of editing:
1: “I hope never.” Elizabeth laughed softly as she tugged me to her. “She wouldn’t be our Sky without it.” Pulling away from the immortal, I searched for the Healer’s face, hoping I would see that soft smile I had grown so fond of.”
*Note that Elizabeth is infact mortal. Ella is immortal but was not in this scene.
2: “Why is there no railing?” I complained as I cautiously took the next step. “Why would we want to help those who would try to intercept our letters?”
Followed by:
“I grabbed on to the railing and all but slid down the narrow stairs, ignoring Keyno’s call of my name.”
*Note: they is an entire paragraph spent talking about why there is no railing and yet when Sky leaves the conversation she somehow grabs said nonexistent railing.
I’ll be crying in the fetal position until further notice 🥹 god y’all Skylahr just cannot catch a break. This girl has had the weight of the world thrust upon her shoulders and she just refuses to break. This was action packed and heart wrenching and dammit I need the next one 😭 Kalian is honestly one of my favorite MMCs as he’s not just a typical hero but he has his weaknesses and isn’t afraid to show his emotion. We get several chapters in his POV which I seriously enjoyed and hope to see more from him in the next book as well. Bravo! Bring on book 3!
Picking up a year after the events of Legend of the Huntress, there is a new threat on the horizon. Will Skylahr be able to stand against the Siren?
Read if you like: -Redemption Arcs -Fated Mates -Epic Journeys -Found Family
I liked Summoning of the Siren more that Legend of the Huntress. It's not everyday I find a sequel that I like better than the first installment. I also liked that we had a second POV in this book. It brought more depth to the story. And the cliffhanger! K. Godin...I need more!
I’m really loving this series. I really wanted to give this a 5 star review but the beginning of the book was a little difficult for me to get into like I did with the first. It’s started off a little to slow for me. Once it hooked me back in it was hard to put down. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. If you need a book to put you through all the emotions and love reading adventure fantasies this is a good series to read! I recommend this series highly.
This one took me a little bit to get into. I ATE up the first book in the series both times I read it and love the world that Godin has created. The first little while of the book does take a little while to get into. It's kinda like in New Moon; "there's a possibility" moment. Because poor Sky. BUT! It does pick up. Trust the process. And when Kalian comes back in? You hate you still love him. The cliffhanger at the end is NOT OK. I need book three now 🥴
This was very much a middle of the series book. It was slow even though tons of things happened. The plot progresses, the characters grow, the story builds, yet, it was boring in comparison to the first. Hopefully the next book is better. The story is good enough to continue for sure, it just didn’t seem to fulfill what I was needing.
The book was slow at times, however I do feel like that is because the author had a better grasp on world building and was fixing some of the pacing issues from book one. There is a large improvement in her writing and the ending...... man oh man.
