So I knew when this new spinoff series kick off that it would be immensely interesting, what I never imagined was we would get a whole new side of the story of these druids and the magic we have learned about from the very beginning of the Dark World. From the very beginning of this grand adventure Ms. Grant has taken us on, the drough, druids that have embraced dark magic, were shown as evil and always were the villains of the story, but in this latest installment when get a whole new view of the world of the druids. Bronwyn Stewart is a woman that has secluded herself away on the Isle of Skye, in the heart of Druid magic, despite her newly hated status of drough and the fact that she is counting the days left of her life. Elias MacLean has finally returned to the island after years of exile, when his sisters are in danger, and now is under suspicion of murders of other druids and has to defend his name. When he sees the quiet, peaceful, beautiful druid one day he doesn’t realize who or what she is, but is immediately drawn to her in a way he cannot deny. When trouble comes to her front door, he steps in and saves her from a vicious and potentially deadly attack by her enemies and soon they find themselves entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse. With the help of Elias friends, Bronwyn and Elias might just stand the chance of defeating the bastard out to end her existence, but only if they can truly come to trust in one another. Filled with passion and drama, Shoulder the Skye is one of the greatest stories Donna has given us, and the love that develops between these two mistrustful and independent characters is remarkable.

Bronwyn’s life has spiraled out of her control in so many ways, that she has mostly given up on a future and has taken the only steps she thinks she can to protect herself and her loved ones. She is brace in so many ways, despite knowing the odds and favor is stacked against her, showing the strength of her character and love. I enjoyed watching her fighting and ultimately losing the battle against Elias and his friends as they slowly (and gently) pushed their way into her solitary existence and gave her a true reason to fight for the future. Seeing her come to trust them and trust in herself and her abilities was one of the best parts of the story, despite all the heartbreak she had to suffer along the way. Elias has his own reasons to be mistrustful to be sure, but I loved watching him interacting with his crew of friends, and even his family, though those were less fun and sadder. He’s had a rough life too, since leaving the island, shouldering the pain and sadness of his family’s secrets, but having his family back together and being able to return home is healing for him and it’s apparent it makes him stronger. His draw to Bronwyn his obvious from the beginning, even if he didn’t understand how deep it was, and I loved watching his obsession and how he refused to give her up or ultimately give her an inch as they fell in love. The heat between these two was subtle until the trust built between them, but once that foundation of trust and friendship allowed their love to bloom, there was no denying the connection between them. Despite our belief to this point, we learn that even those that are drough an love and be warriors for good, which was truly eye-opening and showed us that the even this world of magick is full of shades of grey. I am dying to find out what comes net in this series as the bad-guys just keep stacking up, and maybe even teaming up, and the plots become more and more complicated. I can see this series being one of my favorites from Donna. Congrats on another masterpiece, Donna!

Shoulder the Skye is the 2nd book in the Skye Druids Reapers spin-off and it did not disappoint! This is Elias MacLean and Drough Bronwyn Stewart’s story and I’d recommend reading Dark Alpha’s Command and Iron Ember first for back story and cohesion as the book builds off of the storylines in both.

Elias MacLean is a member of the Knights (a group we first meet in Iron Ember) who returned to Skye to investigate the murders of Druids. Bronwyn Stewart was a druid before using blood magic to when she became a Drough. Bronwyn knows that she faces an inevitable, painful death because of her use of blood magic and is a target because of her decisions. Elias intervenes when Bronwyn is attacked and someone also sets the wheels in motion to make Elias the prime suspect in the murder of the Druids. Since he was falsely accused, Elias stays at Bronwyn’s house while he and the Knights work to clear his name.

Elias and Bronwyn have had a connection since childhood and the new challenges they face help to cement their feelings for one another as they fight to overcome the challenges facing them both.

Looking forward to the next book in the Skye Druids Series - Heart of Glass!

5⭐️ thank you NetGalley and Donna Grant for the ARC to “Shoulder The Sky” - this review is entirely my own thoughts concerning this book.

This series is going to be a favorite. Just nervous cuz with the way it’s developing, I know it’s gona be a big one.

I love Elias and Bronwyn’s budding relationship and honestly everything about the two of them. They complement each other so well without drowning out each others storyline.

All the supporting characters are so much fun. The Knights are my absolute favorite. And I kind of love how the Manor is it’s own sentient being. For a magical community that just makes perfect sense, especially for Bronwyn’s storyline.

I’m so nervous about Edie 😬 mainly because I see a lot of myself in her (follows the rules, wants the white picket fence and the perfect family image and does everything right, but still ends up feeling lacking and neglected).

I am loving where this series is going and I can’t wait to dive further into it.

Good

The heroine was slightly annoying, but other than that it was a solid read. I really liked the part about the house.

Oh My Word!! I can't believe all the twists and turns that occur in Shoulder the Skye. The story grabbed me from the very beginning. I didn't want to put it down. I hid in my room so I would't be interrupted. The story took control of my day, nothing else mattered. Shoulder the Skye is filled with mind blowing conspiracies. Different groups are coming to the Isle of Skye and it isn't for Ariah's tea.

This is one story that I wish I could have read faster. The anticipation was pure agony. I was curious to see what would be revealed. I needed to know who would survive. It was so hard not to skip to the end to see how it would end. I would have missed so much if I had cheated. The author has built a world that continues to grow. Every time I think things are calming down, she floods the pages with more evil, more sinister characters, more treachery.

Bronwyn has returned to Skye after the death of her father. The residents do not welcome her with open arms. She has her reasons for what she has done, but no one cares to ask or knows her secrets. Drastic times will need drastic measures. She knows a battle is coming. She plans to face her past on her own. Elias has different ideas.

Someone wants Elias gone from the Isle of Skye. In Iron Ember, book one of the Skye Druids it was mist, that tried to kill him. Now he is being set up for crimes he did not commit. The question is not only who, but why.

Elias is drawn to Bronwyn. He refuses to let her fight on her own. He wants to stand by her side. The tension between them sizzled. The sex was off the charts but it was the trust for one another that had my heart all a twitter.

Nothing expresses their love more than the battle in front of the manor. Donna Grant always entertains me with the battles in her books. But this one has become my favorite. The battle was intense. The battle was full of surprises. I was on cloud nine. This is one battle scene that will be hard to be topped.

10/24/25 Super amazing audiobook. Wonderful narration giving me hours of thrilling entertainment.

Shoulder the Skye is the second installment in Donna Grant’s Skye Druid series.
Elias MacLean left Skye years ago to protect his family. He came back to investigate mysterious murders of Druids but now that his sister Elodie has her memories back, he does not have leave. Staying becomes even more enticing for Elias when he is enthralled by a beautiful Druid from across a store. His life, and mission, are thrown for a loop when he is accused of being the murderer of Druids that he was in fact searching for!
Bronwyn Stewart has had a rough life, her mother walked into a loch when she was a teenager, and her father was murdered by Sydney, someone who had used & manipulated her. She found herself in a situation where she thought the only road forward for her was becoming drough. She remembers Elias from when they were teenagers and he helped her after a run-in with a school bully. She feels this powerful pull towards Elias but thinks he is too good of a man to get caught up in her troubles, especially now that Sydney has found her.
Elias helped Bronwyn when she was ambushed by Sydney and his gang. Little did he know that Bronwyn, and her house, would become his sanctuary. With the help of his friends, the Knights, a sort of vigilante group of Druids who have all lost someone close, Elias and Bronwyn must clear his name and rid Bronwyn of the threat of Sydney. As if this wasn’t enough, there is still the deadly mist that is killing Druids to contend with as well as stirrings amongst the Skye Druids that all is not right on their beloved Skye.
As usual, I was racing through this latest Donna Grant story to see what twists and turns she would throw at her characters next. I am more curious than ever to find out why the Ancients are silent and why some Druids are unable to use their gifts. I want to know who is actually controlling Kerry, making her think she alone has been signaled out by the “Ancients” to weed out the Druids and set a new order upon Skye. I cannot wait to find out what is going on with Elodie & Elias’s sister Edie! But alas, I must wait for Donna Grant’s next exciting story to take me on a new adventure on Skye….

Grant has so much imagination. The worlds she creates are huge, magical (pun may be intentional), exciting and complete. While the Isle of Skye isn't made up, Grant has taken the real and the myths and created an entire world of fantastical paranormal characters and situations. She's also very good at spreading a story over many books. This book gives us a look at more of the big picture and more information we didn't have. We also get to know more about the characters. All of which makes for an enjoyable read.

Poor Bronwyn. She made one very poor decision and it's made her life hell. She's done the unthinkable more than once. But what if you do the wrong thing for the right reasons? The Druids, her townspeople, are hard on her. She's drough and that's to be shunned. But no one is harder on her than she is. She's alone and fighting so hard to prevent worse consequences.

Elias left Skye to protect his family's already horrible situation from getting worse. He's used the time to join Knights and fight evil. He's now being accused of multiple murders but no one knows his accuser's motive.

Sharing horrible pasts perhaps is a large part of why they're so compatible though the attraction starts before they know each other's stories. Elias is a natural protector and Bronwyn definitely needs someone on her side. Unfortunately, she doesn't want to admit she needs help. She's as determined to make sure he's safe.

The whole cast is in the fight of their lives. Well the continuation of the fight that started in Iron Ember. Druids are dying. The mist is attacking. No one knows who's behind everything or why.

The story is so full of action, feelings, relationships, and questions. Questions upon questions.

This story will have you turning pages late into the night.

Incredible!

Bronwyn is a druid, who became a drough, to save her cousin from an evil man named Sydney. She's also used blood magic for protection against him and when that is used by a druid, they will not have long to live and will die a very painful death. Elias, who we see in the first book, is in with a group who call themselves the Knights and they are searching for the druid murderer and helping druids who need it. (I really love the characters in the nights and hope they get their own story.)
Elias and Bronwyn have known each other since school and have always seemed to have a connection and when he sees what happens in town between her and Sydney, he watches her house and when she's attacked, Elias jumps in to save her. While at her house, Elias ends up being framed for murders he didn't commit, so he stays at Bronwyn's house while he and the Knights figure out how to clear his name. Elias and Bronwyn develop feelings for each other but she knows what kind of death awaits her and she won't be able to have a future with him. Along with fighting to keep her cousin safe, there are still other new evils out there that seem to be after them. Plus, just how many more evils are there, what's going on with Elias's sister Edie, what is it that Kirsi knows, and who exactly are Ferne and Mason? To find out what else happens along with how they could possibly get a HEA, you have to read this book.
There are so many new characters and so much excitement! I can't wait for the next book. The Skye Druids series is magical, exciting, mysterious, and romantic all in one. Oh, and just a bit spicy too. I highly recommend all Donna Grant's books.

Shoulder the Skye, the second book in the Skye Druids by Donna Grant is one action packed suspenseful romantic read. This unpredictable, haunting tell of accepting the consequences for your actions has you hoping for a way out, a way of salvation for Bronwyn Stewart.

Bronwyn Stewart falls easily for Elias MacLean but know from past experience that she can make bad decisions. Both of these characters have tons of baggage together they can face the present, hope for the future and love each other. What more could you wish for in life. However, in their case it is a fight for survival against evil. An edge of the seat read with doubts, regrets, forgiveness, determination, independence to teamwork, good versus evil and in the end true love. What a story written as only Donna Grant can.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Bronwyn has used blood magic and became a drough. She hardly ever leaves her home because of what she has done. Blood magic is forbidden and a Druid that uses it, dies a horrible death. A battle is coming and she is as ready as ever.
Elias is a Druid who left the Isle of Skye years ago. He is reunited with his sisters and is looking for a killer. Someone or something is killing Druids. Elias is a member of the Knights and they are hunting the killer. While at Skye, someone fingers him as the murderer. When he comes upon Bronwyn in a fight, he helps but both are injured. Bronwyn lets him in the house and immediately passes out. The Knights talk Bronwyn into letting Elias stay until they figure out what is going on.
Now they reveal their secrets and get closer. Bronwyn has never had friends and has been a loner. Elias will do anything to protect Bronwyn. Elias and the Knights will not let Bronwyn fight without them but it'll take some convincing for her to accept their help.

Great story. Two people who have had past tragedies and are keeping secrets. Sex. Fighting. Magic. You can never go wrong reading anything by Donna Grant.

This is Bronwyn and Elias story. 2nd in the Skye Druids series. Bronwyn has evil chasing her and has turned drough to receive extra power to battle the evil. Elias is a mie druid returning to Skye after decades of forced isolation to protect his family.
There is evil killing the Druids all over the world and Elias and Bronwyn get caught up in the suspicions of the leaders on Skye and in Edinburgh investigating the deaths. They are innocent of any wrongdoing, but the leaders need convincing.
One of Skye’s former Druid leaders thinks she is hearing from the Ancients showing her which Druids need to die to bring about a new, stronger order of Druids. The Druid leader in Edinburgh has an agenda to merge with the Others to take down the current Druid leadership on Skye and eventually lead all the Druids worldwide.
Oh, the plot twists and unexpected betrayals that pop up throughout this book! You don’t see any of them coming! Truly engaging and intriguing throughout the whole book. Can’t wait for the next one.

Simply said, this book is worth spending your money on. I enjoyed reading SHOULDER THE SKYE by Donna Grant. Think modern times but a story of the Druids residing on the Isle of Skye . Bronwyn is a strong, self sufficient (out of necessity) druid who really needs loving care to be able to come into her own. When things turn violent, Elias who is drawn to her and steps in as her Knight in shining armor. He actually is a member of the The Knights, who consist of a group of Druids of varying special attributes. The killing mist is back. Bronwyn's ex is in a murderous rage, so she had become a drough Druid who uses blood magic. She will protect her cousin, herself and the ancient manor which has sheltered many generations of her ancestors, above all else. I suggest you read book one of the series, followed by this, the second book. Kerry, Balladyn, Rhona, Elodie and Edie all continue their stories in this book. I feel this book has all the components of a really good book to enjoy.

Oh wow the plot thickens, Donna Grant brings us amazing turn of events that I wasn't expected and a rollercoaster ride, with none stop suspense concerning Bronwyn and her back story.

Read it on one sitting, non stop action. I'm curious were Donna will bring us with the story
We get Bronwyn who is drough and Elias had know each other as kids, but it wasn't close, but I like that they had that connection which make it difference between the other stories. Elias doesn't turn up his nose like the reset of isle on Bronwyn who keeps to herself even though almost everyone is kinda mean to her. I don't want to spoil it on here we get to see more about Bronwyn and her ability. I want more lol

We get to see Nikolai and his mate who is on the Isle trying to find what she feels is wrong.

Wish I can write more, but I have been getting headaches since the weather has been changed. Going to be listening to the audiobook tomorrow

Shoulder the Skye is the second book in Grant's Skye Druids series that began with Iron Ember. I was so excited to read Elias's story after meeting him in that novel. While it's not essential for you to read Iron Ember first, it does allow you to sink in and let tis book wrap itself around you!

Bronwyn has allowed herself to become a drough which is the "evil" side of being a Druid. Her reasons were pure but that will not stop the inevitable end of that choice-- her death. Enter Elias who is searching for the one who is killing druids. He is drawn to Bronwyn even as he is being accused of murder himself. What follows is a wonderfully gripping tale which leaves you eagerly turning pages and pouting for more when you come to the last.

What I love most about the second book is that there were so many secondary characters who positively shouted out to be next in Grant's line of story telling and I honestly can't wait 'til the next Skye Druid tale!!!

Shoulder the Skye (Skye Druids, #2) by Donna Grant
This second book in the Skye Druids did not disappoint. This is Bronwyn Stewart and Elias MacLean's story. So many interesting characters, some old and some new. Lots of angst, both of them have a ton of baggage, some laughs and tears, mystery, danger, some evil and lots of good, and plenty of steam to get us to a very HEA. I can't wait for the third book HEART OF GLASS - there are many mysteries' yet to be solved.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed Romantic Funny Wonderful characters Unpredictable Great world building Page-turner Happily Ever After Twisted Tear-jerker Haunting Informative Steamy Tragic Entertaining Easy-to-read Scary.

An Awesome Read!!! This is the second book in the Skye Druid series. The Isle of Skye is really getting interesting. Elisa, who is a member of the Knights, is back. He and Bronwyn are childhood friends, with a lot of chemistry. When he sees that Bronwyn is in trouble, he does not estate to help her and in doing so, finds himself accused of murder. It is up to Elisa and the Knights to solve the mystery. Aside from being accused of murder, Elisa and Bronwyn are also fighting another evil threat. As always, in DG books, there are twist and turns and unanswered questions that leave you counting the days, until the next book. I highly recommend this book, if you are a fan of PNR.

Amazing!!! I am absolutely loving where this new series is taking us. I have always loved the Driuds in Ms Grant's books, but getting to be with them on Skye is a whole other kind of wonderful.

Wow! The word for this book is intense. Both Elias and Bronwyn’s lives were so complicated. When they met, it sure was great for both of them. They totally deserve a happily ever after. Before the book and did the set up for the next book really peaked my interest and it’s making me look forward to reading it.

Wow! Things just got a whole lot dicier on the Isle of Skye! Have you ever had that someone from your past that you couldn’t forget? Elias, the chivalrous boy from her childhood, came back to Skye to help his sister and now someone is after him. Bronwyn is being hunted by a past she can’t escape and things are closing in fast. Somehow she must work with Elias to save them both. The chemistry between these two is off the charts! Had me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want to put it down, even for a minute!

I love it when Donna makes interesting characters out of “historically bad” species. Bronwyn is just such a character, she is Skye Drough. What would push a Sky Druid to become Drough? Though she is no princess, only a Knight can save her—Elias. This section of the Dark Universe is coming into focus with this book, I personally can’t wait for Donna to take us on this ride.

4.25 stars-SHOULDER THE SKYE is the second instalment in Donna Grant’s contemporary, adult SKYE DRUIDS paranormal/fantasy romance series-a spin off from the author’s REAPER series which in turn is a spin off from the author’s many interconnected series and stories. This is Druids Elias MacLean, and drough Bronwyn Stewart’s story line. SHOULDER THE SKYE should not be read as a stand alone- I recommend reading DARK ALPHA’S COMMAND (Reaper 15) for back story and cohesion as many of the events of the current time line are as of a direct result of the events in Dark Alpha’s Command. Several characters from the other series including Reaper Balladyn and Druid Rhona (Dark Alpha’s Command) and some of the original Dragon Kings and Reaper characters appear as secondary and supporting characters.

SOME BACKGROUND: Months earlier, betrayal and vengeance forced a take-over of power on the Isle of Skye but someone or something is killing the Druids, not only on the Isle of Skye, but around the world including Edinburgh Scotland. With the focus on the death of the Druids on the Isle of Skye, Balladyn and Rhona (Dark Alpha’s Command/Reaper 15) begin an investigation that reveals a danger targeting the Druids and the MacLean family, in particular.

Told from third person perspective SHOULDER THE SKYE follows numerous interconnected and soon to be connected pathways as the Druids on the Isle of Skye search for the truth behind a magical and powerful mist that is targeting and killing their own. Elias MacLean is a member of a group known as the Knights but Elias has been accused of several murders, murder he knowns nothing about but Elias’ return to the Isle of Skye comes with the darkened memories of the past including the memory of a young woman bullied by the others at school. Bronwyn Stewart is a drough, a Druid who has turned to the dark side, a Druid who has been targeted for who she is, and what she knows, but a Druid who has been forced into a position from which she cannot escape. Protecting Bronwyn has become paramount in the eyes of Elias MacLean such that Elias is pulled into the world that is threatening to take down our story line heroine. What ensues is the building relationship between Bronwyn and Elias, as the danger to everyone is expanding and growing throughout the world.

Meanwhile, the death and destruction of the Druids is mounting, and no one is safe from the impending wrath. Someone is controlling the mist, the Droughs, the Druids, and amassing another group of Druid Others, such that their power and magic is pulled towards the Isle of Skye.

The relationship between Elias and Bronwyn begins by accident as Elias has claimed himself guardian and protector of a woman who has been targeted by a number of people.Elias himself has been accused of several murders around the world, and for his own protection, he has taken up residence with our story line heroine but Bronwyn is much more than she appears to be-her power and abilities are unlike anything Elias and the Knights have ever seen. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Once again, there is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters many of whom cross over from the author’s numerous interconnected series including Druids, Reapers and Dragons. We are reintroduced to the TruthSeeker Esther and her mate Nikolai (Heat/Dark Kings 12); Elias’ siblings Elodie and Scott, Edie and Trevor; Rhona and Balladyn, as well as the Knights: Sabryn, Carlyle, and Finn, as well as Bronwyn’s sister Beth. The requisite evil has many faces.

SHOULDER THE SKYE is another complex, detailed and multi-layered story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, madness and murder, magic and the supernatural. The premise is intricate and intriguing; the romance is seductive; the diverse characters are magical, powerful and determined.

Spellbinding and Suspenseful

The only way in which I can Describe Donna Grant's words is to say they are addictive, spellbinding, and mindblowing. They illicit feelings of heartache, angst, fear, joy, and most of all, love. SHOULDER THE SKYE, as I knew it would, encompasses all of these. This is the second book in the Skye Druids series, and is the story of Bronwyn Stewart and Elias MacLean, a journey of healing, self-discovery, and love.

Once again evil has come to the Isle of Skye. Who brought it, and why? There are so many twists and turns throughout this story, each page bringing forth new suspense and mystery. Bronwyn and Elias' lives have been affected by tragic events of their past, leaving them with feelings of loss, anger, and heartache. Elias has returned to Skye after being away for many years, returning to investigate the mysterious murders of several Druids. Bronwyn lives as though she is a semi-reclusive hermit, her choice. She is shunned by the residents of Skye for the decisions she has made. Not once, but twice, she has made choices that have dramatically affected her life. An unexpected meeting between Elias and Bronwyn has both their lives changing. Elias has a protective nature, and Bronwyn definitely needs protection, even if it is from herself. Bronwyn too wants Elias to be safe, so she continually tries to push him away. Their attraction is strong, but with everything going on around them will they act on it?

Donna had me sitting on the edge of my seat, continually turning pages as I couldn't put this one down. There's plenty of action, suspense galore, strong emotions, developing and trusted relationships, and so many questions raised. We're only two books into this series and Donna has captured my imagination with her riveting storylines and amazing characters. Elias' team, The Knights, were wonderful and provided quite a bit of amusement, his sister Edie has something strange going on - just what is yet to be discovered, then there's Ferne, Mason, and Kelly. I cannot forget The Manor itself, oh how I love the way in which Donna's imagination works.

While Elias and Bronwyn's story has been told, there is still more to come, and no doubt they will be just as suspenseful and mysterious. Next up is Heart of Glass and I cannot wait.

SHOULDER THE SKYE a highly recommended read.

Right from the start there was this tone of urgency and danger, creating an atmosphere of heightened emotions that made it impossible to put down.

Bronwyn sacrificed almost everything to keep her cousin safe and she made some very dubious choices in the process. She refused to ask anybody for help, so none of the other Druids on Skye were aware of her situation. They just knew that she is drough now, and therefore evil, and must be avoided at all costs. Her ex, Sydney, showed up looking for her cousin, and that’s where Elias found her and stepped in to help. After that, he couldn’t stay away and didn’t want to leave her to fend for herself. Bronwyn blurred the lines between what it meant to be mie or drough.

There were several smaller groups of people each conducting their own investigations, but it all just led to more suspicions without any substantial results. And while this was a brilliant story, the issue with Kerry and her Ancients and the deadly mist made no real progress. A few new characters were introduced in short snippets that completely piqued my curiosity, but also only added even more layers to the mystery. If the epilogue is anything to go by, I’m expecting to see them again soon and hope to get more answers.

I loved Bronwyn’s story of her family, her past, and her house. Elias was more like a victim, initially at least, until later when he decided to stop hiding and take action. Every time Balladyn showed up with his stern “I’m in charge” face, I got this little shiver down my spine. He is still my favourite. And despite any misgivings I might have about the plot, there is no denying that Donna Grant is a master at crafting magical battles.

It is best to read the books in the series in order. You might even have to go back a little bit to Dark Alpha’s Command in the Reaper series for more background on Skye. I can recommend this entire Dark World if you like magic and magical creatures, and don’t mind following a story over several books.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Oh my, where to start...........from page one, you're immediately sucked into the world of Skye and you won't want to put the book down until the end.
This book is just as action packed, steamy, heart wrenching and heartwarming as book 1.
There is a plethora of characters. We have Bronwyn, Elias, Elodie, Edie, Rhona, Ballaydn and The Knights who consist of Sabryn, Carlyle, Finn and Sabertooth. Then you have Sydney and his gang of thugs, Kerry and George. Oh, and let's not forget Kirsi, Ferne, Mason and Beth.
The reader actually gets three well thought out story lines that comingle perfectly.
First we have Bronwyn's story. It's a story of hatred, revenge, fear, bad decisions (we've all been there ), loneliness and finally, friendship, love and belonging. Her life will never be the same again after being bullied and locking gazes on Elias in the co-op of all places. Her life consists of two things. Making enough money just to live on and the fear and loathing she has for Sydney. He did something to her that no person would ever forgive or forget. It's truly heartbreaking. We also learn several fascinating things about her abilities and the manor she lives is. I love that house and I'm sure you will too.
Second is Elias' story. In the beginning everything is going pretty good. He's back on Skye and reconnecting with his sisters and his mom's getting out of prison. If you didn't read book 1 and not sure why that's a good thing, it's explained in here as well. Then enters George to try and have him arrested for murder. She even enlists Sydney to set Elias up. All the while the Knights, of which he is one, came to help and have his back.
Third, the mist is back a.k.a Kerry being up to no good. Let me say this, the mist has met its match in the book and it's glorious. Plus Kerry gets royally ticked off at Bronwyn. The mist in a round about way actually did two good deeds. Well, one good and one I highly enjoyed. Unfortunately, I can't spill the beans. I don't like to spoil much and revealing those would.
You know how I rate a fantastic series? It's if months have gone by, I've read a ton of books in between, yet with the 1st sentence of the next book in a series, I remember everything from the previous book. That's exactly this series.
5+ stars for this high octane, couldn't put down book!!!! Thanks again Donna Grant for sharing your imagination with the world

Donna Grants knows how to build up a story to have her readers hanging on and then delivers everything we want in the end. As a reader, it’s always a bitter, sweet thing when a series comes to an end. However, when we get spinoffs, there’s the element of change, and for some of us that can be scary, and some of us extremely exciting.

Shoulder the Skye fines Bronwyn secluding herself away on the island of Skye. Also, Ellis, who has finally returned home after many years. Both of them have things from the past that are troubling them deeply. Bronwyn's life has spiraled into something that she can’t completely control. The story has a lot of ups and downs and a lot of magic. Bronwyn made choices that she thought were for the best and trying to help someone close to her, and in the process it has caused her to have more enemies then she would’ve imagined. She’s determined not allow anyone else to get hurt again. However, there is someone that seems to not only want to help her, but could be something much much more.

Ellis left to help protect her sisters. However, things have come full circle and he has made his way back to the isle. He has joined a group that helps fight. The evil that is facing their world. Upon returning, he takes notice of a woman who keeps herself, and people treat fairly rudely. His interest is on full alert, but yet that woman is hiding more secrets than he has. But the draw he has to her cannot be denied.

The story is magical, dark and full of excitement. Bronwyn and Ellis have a connection that cannot be walked away from. In a short time, they learn to trust each other, share their secrets and find a way to help one another. They’re romance may not have started off easy, but they do find their happily ever after.

Bronwyn is, for all intents and purposes, a shut-in. She rarely leaves her house due to the toxic treatment she receives from other Druids, especially one particular group of "mean girls". She may be a Drough but there isn't an evil bone in her body!

Elias is a Knight, a small band of Druids who have all lost someone through evil magic-users. Now he's been set up to take the fall for a long list of murders. He may have been keeping an eye on Bronwyn to keep her safe but now HER home is HIS sanctuary!

I'm loving this new off-shoot series, still set in the Dark World of the Reapers and Dragon Kings.
There are evildoers, magical segregation, small town gossipmongering, instant attraction (although we come to find out they did know each other in the past). Elias dysfunctional Knights are a motley crew and I enjoyed meeting them all (well, almost all of them). Bronwyn is such a stalwart, she endures and goes on the best she can whilst being treated as a pariah.

Elias loves his family and his new friends and has missed interacting with them. But he also notes that not all is perfect in Edie's life and his brother in law has secrets.

There is a definite vein of sadness within the story and I am glad that Elias and Bronwyn were able to see past their past hurst and fears and grasp their happiness. My only quibbles are things that only Scottish folk like me would pick up on - lingo/idiom, etc but I was able to gloss over anything like that an was still able to enjoy a brilliant story.
