This is BOOK TWO of The Super Dark Trilogy. It is not a stand-alone novel. If you have not read Super Dark (Part 1) you need to do that first for the best possible reading experience.

I know that your first thought, like mine, is about that title. It's a little risky to have the second book have the same title of the first (excluding that little 2 on the end). I have to be honest it wasn't nearly as good as the first. Don't get me wrong it was still good, just not that good. Honestly, I had high expectations. The writing was kind of moody, if that makes sense. At one point, they are saying stuff like "you bet" and "likewise" and then they were talking like they were from the 60's. The 1760's. That can be both annoying and confusing. Other than the consistency issues there was a minor flow issue. Like you end up some where and your just like "how did I get here?" The plot was slow. I found myself wondering what the point was. 200 something pages should be a little more exciting when you have these monster things and one human all in one Victorian-era town. Where's the action? There's like this one choice that she fights herself over. There's a couple of giant beetles to fight with. A tiny little love triangle type thing that was pretty interesting. I honestly don't think think this story-line was a great idea. Both Sam and Elliot were huge bleeps throughout the whole book. There were a few moments between them that were sweet, Elliot ultimately being sweeter that Sam could ever be. But he also went full out wolf-man at times and I was just like "This. This, Elliot, is why you are single." Sam was just so selfish. Here they are both facing the music for trumped up charges, and Sam's like "Why am I in trouble." When thinking "Hmm, is Elliot dead?" Her next thought is "What about me?" Gross Sam, that whole personality you had going on was just gross. The romance wasn't romance exactly. It was more like lust. Elliot said he loved her and he was sweet sometimes, but most of the time he was just like "*manly voice* you're so pretty." And then Sam was just using him. Outside she's like "yeah I feel something for you" and inside she's like "And that something is disgust." Disappointment. That's what this book is: Disappointment.
What happened? I seriously do not understand what happened! Everything that went right with the first book went oh so horribly wrong with this one. In my review of the first book i gave it 4 Stars. It had enough good qualities to merit the rating and render it a refreshing read. So what the hell happened?!?!?
To start off: - The pace: It changed. It went on so fast i actually felt lightheaded and wanted to vomit. Though the chapters remained looooong it felt like nothing and everything was happening, all at once. But that was just me cause things were happening, only they were so fast i was too slow to comprehend them. When i finally caught up to the pace nothing actually happened so at that instance i went a little slower boom, events were happening in supersonic rapidness. - Samantha: She went from someone who was level headed, with sarcasm and who spoke their mind to a total bitch. I wanted to bitch slap her so hard! Urgg! Some of her behaviour i could barely, but barely, give an excuse for. Most of her behaviour was simply inexcusable. I know we all have our negative attributes but she turned into a completely different person! - Elliott: I do feel sorry for him that he got to deal with a bitch like Sam. He seems to be a good guy and even if he wasn’t i wouldn't wish Sam upon anyone. My only grievance is that we’re in book two and i still don’t quite get him. Though i grew to appreciate him immensely, i still feel that something is indeed missing. Maybe it is just me though. - The Bad Guys/Enemies: They were ok. We didn’t get to see anything of them but for a little bit and the little we did see was not that bad. Sam was worse than they were. Honestly, she was such a bitch she overshadowed whatever little badness the enemies had. That right there should tell you a lot about our MC. - Frasier: Ohh, my dear Frasier! He was the only redeeming quality of this book for the little he appeared in it. The best character so far. One in a million! <3
I expected so much from this book, I truly did, but besides a couple of humorous lines I got nothing. I’ve never found a MC that would make me change my opinion of them from one book to the next to such an extent, but I guess there is indeed a first time for everything.
I am still holding out that the third book will go back to being a great read. Let’s hope if I’m right.
Wow wow wow! Did this sequel surprise me. So I read Super Dark 1 and thought I knew where the story was heading but boy - did this author lay it on me. Okay, so Sam enters a whole new world with a whole new set of characters. Stoneheath is richly developed with a whole back history that was pretty awesome. I quickly got wrapped up in the new plot thread and loved how intense things started to play out between Sam and Elliot... it was really nice to see things develop between them properly and I loved the dialogue (although I missed Frasier. He's one of my favourite characters. Luckily he returns later in the story). Without giving too much away, this book was every bit as intense and great as the first, just a bit different. Plus there was a MAJOR and I do mean MAJOR plot twist towards the end that TOTALLY threw me. I also loved Shakti and Rajad. So quirky and so original. I had to stay up late to finish this one.
I thought this book was just as amazing as the first one! I can honestly say that this series now officially comes close to my new Harry Potter. Read my full review on Word Press here! http://mariazuppardi.wordpress.com/20...
Amazing.......a character who actually acts her age. Samantha is the main character and she is 17. I really like to NOT like her, she is selfish and a twit. How can you not like her? She does most everything a seventeen year old would do. As for the book and the story....great ! Love Elliot, but I think there is a darker side to him.....too many secrets and he's not really honest with Sam. My favorite has to be Frasier, he is kind, caring and wears his heart on his sleeve. I hope the final book doesn't leave me hanging. Great twist and turns! Happy Reading :)
really not as great as the first book, but intense and entertaining enough to get 4 stars out of me. Sam is taken to a whole new world of shape-shifters, and creatures only one would find in fantasies and folklore. she is forced to make a life-changing decision and finds herself in a deeper amount of trouble than what she's used to. plenty of twists and turns in this to keep you interested. eager to get to book 3.
Hmm so, I was really looking forward to reading this because I enjoyed book 1 (which was free), I bought this without hesitation. Yeh, I'm struggling with Sam. She's a hypocrite (pay attention to her time with Fraiser but her behaviour with Elliot) and she's increasingly shallow..Also the book, whilst I understand is a fantasy, is expecting us to ignore certain improbabilities in the human world. Anyway I did enjoy it, just worried for the next one.
This book takes a sideways step from the first book. It felt like there was very little character development, very little progress (but I don't know what book 3, so maybe it matters there). It wasn't as enjoyable as the first book.
I'll read the third one because I hate not completing, but I hope it's better than this one was.
Not my favorite book of the series by any stretch. I loved the Elliot/Sam scenes so the fact that they were apart for the majority of the book was frustrating to read. But when they did finally reunite, I was really interested again.
Only just scraped a 2 star - the main character is becoming extremely annoying: fickle and mercurial. Deep passion for one thing one moment, for another the next (or maybe she is just a typical teenager?!) Will vol 3 redeem the time spent on this trilogy?
Love it! The story is more intense than the first book as we learn more of what Elliot has become and what his true intentions are. Now on to book three!
A vividly creative, ongoing, paranormal tale for Older YA/New Adult. The dynamics of the storyline are edgy and exciting and the characters dramatic and flamboyant.
Fast, fun YA read. Got the first one free, paid for the second, and then discovered the box set while looking for number three, which was less expensive overall. Bummer.
It was all I could do not to jump through the pages and strangle Sam. Near the end of the book, I understood her a bit better......but man is she daft! Of course, I think that was the whole point, so good on ya! Now I have to read book 3!
