Haunted Love #9

Haunting with a Ghost

Rate this book
Hardly a day goes by without ghost hunters stomping around the house across the street in the dead of night. Hadley Mill is rumored to be stuffed to the brim with malicious spirits. Over the years, people have come from far and wide to search the crumbling mansion for signs of the afterlife while I’ve watched from my windows, hoping they don’t figure out the truth.

They’re looking in the wrong place.

Hadley Mill is not haunted and never has been.

I would know.

I’ve been dead for years.

My secrets are hidden deep within this house, away from the prying eyes of the intruders across the street. As far as I’m concerned, they can just stay over there because I don’t need them in my business.

I hadn’t counted on him though.

Landon came stumbling into my house during a rainstorm and despite knowing that he’s one of the many ghost hunters who could disrupt my peace forever, I can’t keep myself away from him. He’s handsome, clever and absolutely desperate to capture evidence of the paranormal inside Hadley Mill. Ghost hunting is his career but he’s been struggling and without proof that ghosts exist, he’s going to lose everything. The more I get to know him, the more I find myself drawn to his warmth and keeping my truth hidden is starting to wear on me.

He says he’s been looking for a ghost?

I hope he’s ready, because he’s finally found me.

This us my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last. I really enjoyed it and it was a great way for me to finish the series. I have lived every book in this series and have found some amazing new to me authors. It has to be one of my favourite multi author series, and it also included one of my favourite genres; PNR, with ghosts!

Bennett, the ghost, is fed up if being a Ghost, and he wants to join his family in the afterlife. He made the decision to stay, and now that everyone he loved has died, he's lonely and wants out. Death, who was a great addition, is helping helping him. He can't open the portal to his afterlife, so Ben has tried to die again. This can be very triggering for some, but it luckily didn't effect me too much, which I was happy about. I think him being a Ghost helped, but it was still hard to watch. It's not mentioned in the blurb, but it mentioned in a content warning page at the start.

Landon, is a Ghost hunter. He runs a YouTube channel called The Hunt, and investigates different haunted places. His Best friend is his business partner, and let's just say that he's an ass! I felt sorry for Landon as he was pressuring him to find a Ghost, or either they will just fake it. Landon refuses to do that, so he sets about seeing if Hadley Mill is haunted. He loves history and the investigation side, and that ghosts is involved is just a good bonus.

When Landon arrives at his Airbnb, which just happens to be across so the Mill. He doesn't expect to share the house with someone, but he happens upon, Landon. He can see him, and seems to think he's just a regular person. It was sweet, watching them get to know each other, and made me grin. He was talking to the ghost he was looking for and he was no the wiser.

You could see the chemistry between them and you know they would only get closer. I loved watching Ben finally open up, and start to experience things he couldn't in life. His backstory is sad, and I hate thinking if all the time he spent alone. I loved that little memory thing ghosts can do, but it would make ne feel even lonelier. Landon, though, seemed a little naive at times.

As usual, I was excited to see how the story would end. It was great seeing how each author overcame the ghost hurdle to make this a HEA.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

B. Ripley is one of my favorite new authors this year. She's branched out from contemporary drama to paranormal and I am here for it.

Her last book, The Cabin, featured the zombie apocalypse, and this one has a ghost and the Grim Reaper. The book is anything but grim, though - it's sweet and romantic, as well as surprisingly spicy for a story where on of the MCs is "smoke and wisp." I cheered for the main characters as they fell in love, and Ripley gives them a satisfying, feel-good HEA.

A quick, fun read, it's the last in a 9-book shared them, but not shared world series called Haunted Love, each written by a different author and all having the "With a Ghost"as part of the title.

This was such a cute book. The others in this series have been a hit or miss for me but this was definitely a hit. Landon and Ben were perfect for each other. I probably could’ve finished this book in a day but I am trying to slow down and enjoy books more rather than speeding through them like I’m in a competition. 😂

Definitely recommend this book if you’re in the mood for a light ghost story that has a happy ending.

Haunting with a Ghost is part of the multi author Haunted Love series. This author continues to amaze me. From Contemporary to Zombies now to Ghosts/PNR. Loved Landon and Bennet! Bennet had a sad past and how he became a ghost. Landon was a little naïve at times. The story sucked me right in and kept me engaged. I couldn’t wait to find out how it was going to end. Overall, a fantastic addition to the series! Well written, highly recommend.

Ghostly Bennett did not want to be stuck in this world anymore – his reasons were gone. He wanted to cross over, tried to cross over, but he was stuck in a place where everyone but him had moved on. Landon was on a mission to find a ghost. He loved history, and used it in his research, however, he couldn’t find anything paranormal about the house over the road. Then he met the shy, innocent Bennett, who had an adorable thirst for knowledge. But could they be more than friends?
Oh, my life! What a beautifully different story. When I have no idea how to describe a book, it means I haven’t read anything like it before; in this case, it was an excellent thing. I was mesmerized.
I had to think overnight, but I eventually found the words – although I doubt they will do the tale justice.
Haunting With A Ghost is told in the first person from the viewpoints of Bennett and Landon. It is wonderfully atmospheric, focused, and the world-building spans time, comparing the then to the now, physically, and emotionally.
The major difference between this and other stories (among other things) is that the ghostly Bennett thirsts for knowledge while comparing his dead life to his past. It delves into his reasoning for not crossing over to the other side. This aspect was so well written that I experienced a range of emotions and, on occasion, cried to the point of hiccups - beautiful and heartbreaking. All this was helped along by Bennett’s unique introduction, which made him immediately likable. From that moment on, Bennett was captivating, especially when he described a specific character as his ‘fairy deadmother’ – awesome.
While Bennett adds the personal touch, Landon’s part adds the intrigue as well as some heat. He’s an open-minded soul who likes to see the best in people. He can’t help himself become a teacher and more to Bennett. But, something nefarious is afoot. Plots are hatched, hurt, angst, and other forces create a page-turning experience that I’m sure I will read again.

Delicious fun! Hadley Mill, is rumored to be haunted by many evil spirits. Ghost hunters from far and wide visit looking for confirmation. Landon, is a professional ghost hunter and he's getting desperate to confirm proof of his craft. Kev, is Landon's best friend and business partner, running The Haunt, a YouTube channel. They are on the verge of potentially loosing their sponsors. Landon is dedicated to the truth and Kev is dedicated to keeping the bills paid, then the truth. The backstory of Hadley Mill is amazing. Bennett is dead, he died in 1938 at the age of 23. He secretly crushed on his best friend, Jeremiah. Ben's a ghost who is alone and lonely. Then Landon arrived at his AirBnB and met Ben. How soon before Landon realizes Ben is a ghost? Will Ben find his portal to leave? Will Ben and Kev reconcile their different approaches to the business? Will Landon expose Ben? Is there a solution to a HEA? Absolutely funny and heartbreaking watching their friendship develop. Lots of surprises, twists and turns! The author did an amazing job and I read this story straight through. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was a first from this author for me, I've read others in this collection of stories, all with the same theme but not connected. I really enjoyed this, it's been such fun reading the other stories too and seeing how the different authors got round the ghost 'problem' to give the characters their happy ever after. This was pretty unique in how it was done and I really liked the idea.

I liked the two main characters too, they were both interesting in their own way, although Landon was so wilfully blind and more than a little naive. I loved seeing Bennet's story unfold though, it was quite tragic really and it was good to see him opening up and learning new things as he blossomed and found himself. The story was good too, enough to keep me invested and wanting to find out how it all came together.

It was a fun read, a unique take on a ghost trope and really well done. A good fun halloween read.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

The story of what happens when a ghost hunter meets a real ghost

What happens when a ghost hunter and a ghost meet? The ghost hunter destroys the ghost or... they obviously fall in love and get a happily ever after.
A lot of questions rise from this, how can they actually kiss, hug and touch each other if one of them can walk through walls? How can a breathing human and a ghost be happy together for the rest of their lives? How long can that life actually be? B. Ripley takes a really different approach to the ever-after part, in a really surprising and unexpected way.

This book is full of great characters, funny moments, tearful moments (as can be expected with B. Ripley's books), great worldbuilding, engaging side characters, and a story definitely worth reading.

I truly hope the B. will eventually tell us more about some of the side characters she brought to life and the world she created for them.

What a heartwarming ghost story! I was sucked right into this one and my heart hurt for Bennett our ghost who chose to stay in the human realm for his family but ended up spending so many decades alone in his house. I loved how Bennett used power from the house for Landon to see and touch him. He is cold to the touch, and I absolutely ate up all of their first touches. Bennett is so sweet and innocent, and Landon is such a lovable guy. So much cleverness in this story to make it sensual and steamy despite one of them being a ghost. There are some cute humorous scenes revolving around their intimate times together! I do not want to give away how they solve the human and ghost issue so I will just say I really enjoyed this book, and I could not stop reading to see their Happy Ending! There is a fun epilogue as well!

This book is amazing! The tale of Bennett and Landon is one of sadness and loneliness but also of love and second chances. Bennett passed away but refused his chance to cross over to remain with his family though they could no longer see him. Landon enters the scene when he comes to town to investigate the house across the street from Bennett’s for ghosts. The two will develop a friendship that will become so much more. Visits from Death are comforting but the time will come when Death is not a welcome visitor. Bennett will have a choice to make if he ever hopes to see his family or Landon again. This is a wonderful story, a bit heartbreaking at times, but overall an amazing tale and one that is well worth reading!

I am always intrigued by romances with a ghost protagonist and seeing how the author manages the whole noncorporeal issue and if they can make it believable. Bennett's situation really tugged at my heart-strings. When he died (very young), he didn't 'go into the light' because he didn't want to leave his family. Eventually, they do move on, leaving him a lonely ghost. Then he 'meets' Landon, a ghost hunter who hasn't had much luck finding ghosts...until now. Landon and Ben were both sweet, and I couldn't help wishing for a HEA for them. Do they get it, and was it believable? You'll get no spoilers from me, but I will say that I was very satisfied. This was my first read from this author and I am definitely interested in reading more from her.

Thoroughly enjoyed, not what I was expecting.
Landon has a you tube channel, with his best friend Kevin, that investigates ghost stories . He went to collect the background of a house that the father had killed his children and himself, the house was ment to be haunted. While there he booked an air b&b which was opposite the house. Thinking he was there alone he was surprised to find there was another guest staying, Bennett.
Bennett and Landon got on well, Landon thought Bennett had lived in a commune or a very strict, religious family.
Absolutely hooked from the start, their relationship was unique, both helping each other out.
I received an advanced copy of this book for a honest review.
Definitely recommend this whole series.

How exactly does it work when a ghost and a ghost hunter fall in love? This book’s answer to that question is a little sweet, a little spicy (in creative ways) and very much heartwarming: it’s so easy to like Bennett, who’s noble and lonely and definitely deserving of the chance at love and togetherness that Landon offers. Landon is a bit oblivious, perhaps, but seriously likable as well, and I really appreciated (and won’t even think about spoiling) how the author manages to give these two a chance at happily ever after, although I will say it’s creative and fitting. As both a ghost story and a romance, all in all an enjoyable read.

This was a first from this author for me. I’ve really been enjoying this collection of stories, each book by a different author but not connected. The best part about this collection is seeing how each author gets the main characters to a happy ending.

I was hooked on Landon and Bennett almost immediately, and their individual stories kept me hooked all the way through.

While Bennett’s story was honestly quite tragic and sad, and seeing him get to a happily ever after was just beautiful. On the other side we have Landon who is a naive sweetheart, and I loved seeing them together.

This story was very well done, I think it was unique even from the others in this collection. 4/5 🌟

I am absolutely loving this multi-author series! Each book has been unique though they share a similar theme. This book is Landon and Bennett's story. For me it has all the feels. The men are sweet and interesting. I love watching them get to know rach other. And my heart breaks for their story at times, too. I was very happy when the issues get resolved. I definitely recommend this book as well as the other books in the series. The ones I've read have not disappointed. I'm looking forward to reading them all.

Great idea for a ghostly romance. I’m a fan of ghost hunting shows, so this was an interesting premise to me, the ghost hunter falling for the ghost. I loved Bennett and Landon together, their connection very sweet. It’s a well crafted ghost story, I loved the building tension, especially the last few chapters. I had no idea how it would turn out for Landon and Bennett. In fact I wasn’t sure a satisfying ending was going to be possible. In the end, the resolution was cleverly done, albeit a bit bittersweet.

I really enjoyed this book. I read a few other books in this multi-author series and I love the each one is unique in circumstances. I loved that this story is a romance between a ghost and a ghost hunter- what fun could be had there! Great world building and wonderful characters. Landon and ghost Ben made such a sweet couple and the story got emotional for me at times. The ending was very unique and I loved seeing how their happily ever after would play out. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. Loved it. 5 stars.

This is my first book from this author and I loved it! Multi author series are always fun and I've found that these ghost stories are brilliant. Landon is a ghost hunter in search of a ghost, and Bennett is a ghost trying to avoid being detected. Things get interesting when Bennett realizes that Landon can see and communicate with him. I loved the interactions between these two and how they dealt with their "physical" limitations.

Loved this. Landon came to Hadley Mill to investigate for ghosts for his you tube channel. At the BnB he met Bennet. He found Ben charming but really old fashioned. As Landon showed Ben videos on his phone, he always asked to see more movies and videos. As time went on, and their friendship grew, Ben told Landon that he was a ghost. Cute story with lots of chemistry between them and a happy ever after.

Ahhh, this was such a pleasant surprise! I've just come off a string of disappointing DNFs unrelated to this series, and then of course *in* this series, the last few have been duds for me. This, though, was a new-to-me author with a lovely, creative take on ghostly love. I enjoyed it thoroughly and will definitely take a peek at the rest of the author's catalog to see if anything else catches my eye!

This is 'not your typical ghost story!'

B. Ripley has written a romance wrapped in historical fiction, the ideas of life after death, and the lengths that love will go in order to find fulfillment.

A social media podcast is the focus of Landon's life's work and the existence of 'paranormal' entities is what has brought him to a small town. The location where Bennett grew up and died.

A childhood friend has their own agenda, so deceit and lies also bring an added element of excitement as Ben and Landon search for a way to stay together. Even though Death is doubtful it can happen.

"And whatever comes after." It's always a challenge for an author to find a new and believable way for a ghost and a living human to get an HEA but B. Ripley solves that brilliantly in this wonderful story of Landon and Ben. From the beginning which I found hilarious as a ghost watches from across the street as ghost hunters continually invade the wrong dwelling that rumor has it is haunted to the end, where the quote above marks their promise to each other, this is a beautifully told story.

I loved everything about this book. Maybe I like this author a bit more than the others in this cool Halloween event, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but this book was the best one so far.
Ripley has a way with words, and bringing the story to life. The ghost (Ben) was created perfectly, and matched what I would think a real ghost would act like.
Can't wait for more from this author.

A very unique supernatural romance. Bennet, a ghost, his abilities were more than most ghosts have. Landon, ghost hunter, found more than he was looking for. Together their experiences were interesting. Good heroes, good villains and an enjoyable love story with a very interesting HeA. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

Loved it. Just like all the other stories I’ve read in this series.

I’m very glad Ben and Landon got their HEA, even if was an unconventional one.

Highly recommend.

Ben chose to not go into the afterlife to stay with his family. Problem was they moved on and he was left alone. Until Landon shows up, hunting ghosts. What happens next is so sweet and adorable that you'll love this story. These two have some things to work around especially since one is a ghost. Hope to see more stories involving side characters.

Landon and Bennet ❤️

I am loving this multi author series and B.Ripley wrote the perfect addition.

This tale of the ghost hunter falling for the ghost was fun, emotional, spicy and I couldn't have asked for better HEA for these two. I'd for sure recommend, this book only adds to this great haunted series.
