It all started the night Chase, my mountain lion shifter ex, reappeared. We’d had a whole good girl/bad boy romance going until he abandoned me a decade ago. I’d gone to Syn City for a little fun before being trapped in my hometown forever.
Then I was murdered by a maniac and my night really fell apart.
But somehow, Chase managed to strike a deal on a blood oath and bring me back as a Fury. He wants a second chance at romance, claiming we’re fated mates.
Now, I have to deal with the guy I thought I’d never see again, find and punish my murderer, and participate in a giant supernatural roller derby (long story)—all while trying to earn my wings.
And if I fail? I’ll end up dead. Again…only this time, it’ll be permanent.
All I can say is that it’s a good thing hell hath no fury like, well, an actual Fury.
Luna Joya writes steamy romances that are "wickedly delightful" (Publishers Weekly).
The "delightfully devious" Luna writes "action-packed paranormal romantic thrillers, singing with magical power and humming with sensuality that will leave readers breathless." (InD'Tale Magazine). A survivor of traumatic brain injury with steel body parts, Luna lives in SoCal with her combat veteran husband and their two-pound terror of a rescue pup.
When I saw Luna Joya had a new book coming out, I wanted to get the eARC ASAP!!!! I adored Wicked Crown that was released earlier this year, so this was an instant read for me. I mean, furies who also play roller derby, then throw in a mountain lion shifter fated mate? Sign me up!
I haven't seen many books focused on Furies, so I loved being able to dive into how they would fit into an urban fantasy world without any preconceived ideas of them. Joya let her imagination fly with their lore and culture. I am here for these roller derby justice seeking bad ass ladies! And their girl squad vibes I lived for. I'm a sucker for strong female friendships, and these characters showed up for it. Then having a mountain lion shifter as the hero was a refreshing change from other animals like wolves, bears, etc. I was a smitten kitten for this second chance romance. Friends to lovers is one of my favorites!
Joya can weave the paranormal and our modern world together so easily, it makes me want to go see Syn City for myself!
And the murder mystery will keep you guessing and on your toes until the end!
The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five, is because I think I liked Wicked Crown just a tad more, so it didn't seem right to give them the exact same rating. But it was very close!
*I was given an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
A new spin on paranormal mythos? Check! Supernatural roller derby? Check! Murder and mystery? Check! How to Date a Fury is a fantastic spin on fantasy lore: Furies, Muses, Mad Maes, Nymphs…then Joya throws shifters in there, tension and prejudice reigning between the groups. Dottie is a human-turned-Fury who needs to juggle accepting her new life and coming face to face with her long-lost love. Chase is a mountain lion shifter who make a blood oath to a deity to find Dottie’s killer—plus he has a lot of explaining to do! Joya puts her own spin on the fated mates trope with a splash of spice, and the supernatural Syn City is mixed with a dollop of southern charm. This book effortlessly carries you forward, the pages filled with emotional tension, mystery, and captivating new characters. My new favorite Luna Joya book!
This is a wonderful story that is well written and exciting. I love the Fury aspect, since they aren’t a really popular species for paranormal romance, even though they are seriously cool creatures. This book is everything I look for in a great story, solid characters, believable dialogue, descriptive environments, flow of prose, and enjoyable storyline. I am ready for the next one!
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

Dottie’s night of excitement ended in her murder. When she is brought back to life as a Fury things, start looking up. Not only does she find a new family that appreciates her for herself she finds out the young man that was a big part of her young life didn’t abandon her like she first thought.
Chase had a big secret that he felt he couldn’t share with Dottie so for her safety he left her without an explanation. To save her from permanent death Chase makes a blood oath to find her killer and avenge her death.
Dottie is actually cute klutz sometimes that kind of thing can be a bit of an eye roll but it was nicely done and endeared her to me. Chase while Dottie kept saying he was a bad boy didn’t really give off that vibe. From what was said he didn’t fool around and did his job really well…so not a bad boy in my opinion.
There were many things I liked about the Furies would have liked a bit more info to be honest on how everyone was able to tell what the other shifter was etc…plus all the training for the derby and not derby action was a bit of letdown.
The family that Dottie was now reborn into was as dysfunctional as any other family with a lot of smack talking but they had her back when she needed them.
She didn’t forgive Chase right away for deciding he knew what was best when he left without an explanation she did make him work to get back into her good graces.
Loved Chase’s cat and how he would preen and protect.
While I enjoyed the story there seemed to be something missing that wasn’t able to elevate it to a 4 star review for me I would rate it 3.5 stars.

I don't know which caught my attention first: the title or the cover. They're both terrific, then add in that sassy blurb, and this was a book I had to read. I'm pretty new to Luna Joya's work, but if this is any indication of what's to come, I'm in for the long haul. The story is well-written and fast-paced. The storyline is original and fun, something that isn't easy to do in the genre. I loved the idea of furies, roller-derby furies no less, and the fated mates trope with a mountain lion shifter was the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Dottie and Chase are so easy to root for, and the chemistry is off the charts. There is a lot going on here, but once the key players are introduced and things get moving, keeping track of what's what isn't a problem. One of the things I'm pickiest about in urban fantasy is world-building and not changing the rules you've set willy-nilly. World-building is very well done here, and I appreciate that it's done organically throughout the book rather than big dumps of information all at once. And the Syn City Shifters world is a fascinating one that I'm planning on spending much more time in. So, this series start is basically a fated mates paranormal romance, urban fantasy, with a bit of mystery thrown in. It's full of action and hard to put down. I can't wait to see what's next for this terrific world. I will say that Luna Joya has her work cut out for her if she plans to top this one because How to Date a Fury sets the bar pretty high.
This is the first book by Luna Joya that I’ve read. The book title drew me in, but the intriguing story kept me reading. This book is a mix of paranormal and mythological beings that live in Syn City. The city serves as an entertainment capital, of sorts, to humans; and the humans are kept “safe” from the paranormal and mythological beings.
The story centers on Dottie - a human woman who is murdered while leaving Syn City. Vengeance about her death is championed by her old high school sweetheart- Chase, a mountain line Shifter. Chase actually swears an oath to one of the 3 major Furies- those goddesses of vengeance in both Roman and Greek mythology. In this book, they serve as the savage retribution of the slain.
The Fury also transforms Dottie from death into “life” as a daughter of her house - which means Dottie becomes a Fury herself, albeit a minor one.
This story follows Dottie and Chase’s search for her killer. Is the person a serial killer? A paranormal himself? Or a human? The trail is difficult to follow, as some clues don’t make sense. Along the way, Dottie also gets initiated as a Fury Roller Derby player; which is how each “House” raises funds in Syn City.
This is an engaging paranormal murder mystery which also happens to have a romance in it. Author Luna Joya does a fantastic job of weaving the storylines together; you won’t regret picking up this book!.

How to Date a Fury is an amusing and entertaining read. It’s about a human, Dottie, who is murdered and is brought back to life as a Fury. She must come to terms with her whole world changing as she joins her Fury sisters in their role of vengeance. She juggles training to be a Fury, along with reuniting with a long-lost love and training for the supernatural roller derby.
Dottie is a great heroine. She’s klutzy, caring and determined. Her Fury sisters are great as well, adding humor to the story and support for Dottie. Chase is a decent hero. I appreciated that Dottie didn’t fall into his arms right away. She needed to trust that he would be there for her, that he wouldn’t disappear on her again.
I enjoyed How to Date a Fury. It’s an interesting read. I would have liked to have seen Dottie in action on the Derby track after all her training. I was disappointed to miss out on that. But overall, it was a good read.

This was a different type of shifter story. A story about how Dottie died and was given a second chance at life by returning as a Roller Derby Fury. Chase is her Ex-boyfriend and Mountain Lion shifter who broke Dottie's heart years ago; but what Dottie didn't know was that the only reason Chase left her was because he couldn't reveal that he was a shifter as well as the fact that he killed his abusive stepfather.
Dottie was having a hard time coming to terms with her new life, knowing that she would have to leave her old life behind and fight alongside her new Fury sisters in their fight for Vengeance and Revenge. There is a serial killer who is killing off members of the supernatural roller derby and Dottie with the help of Chase and her Fury Sisters won't rest until they unleash Vengeance for the death of their loved ones. It's time for the Furies to show the supernatural world how Justice is served the Fury way.
Dottie went to Syn City for a night of fun. She sees Chase at a bar, he's her ex who disappeared ten years ago without a word. Then Dottie's killed and brought back as a Fury. and learns Chase is a mountain lion shifter. He tells her she's his mate and he's vowed to find her killer.
I received an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems, and this is my honest, unbiased, voluntary review. This is the first book in a new series, and the first I've read by this author. I loved it! It was a quick, well-written book with well-rounded characters, and an original premise. I was drawn into this entertaining and captivating story and kept hooked from start to finish. I really enjoyed the various supernatural beings including the Furies and shifters. The mystery will keep you guessing and on your toes. I'm looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this one.
This book is a really great start to a series. The plot is very interesting and also original. I love the concept of a city safe for humans, protected by paranormals, that also involves roller derby! Dottie is a strong heroine who definitely learns a lot about herself and really comes into her own. I like that she didn’t immediately forgive Chase and tried to work on herself first. Even though the plot was very original, the storyline was too predictable. I knew who the killer was immediately and that took away a lot of the suspense for me. Kiva and Sadie stole the spotlight a little and I would love to read more of their stories! A great start and easy read. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I thought this story was great. It brought a new twist on the standard shifter stories that you generally read. Dottie visits Syn City, the home of the paranormal. She is in awe and pays to watch the furies play roller derby. She thinks it is great, and it is… until she gets killed. On her death, her best friend Chase, and her secret crush, finds her bleeding body and by some miracle, Dottie gets brought back as a fury. She gets close to Chase and and they rekindle their friendship and maybe more…. I like this concept, Luna Joya fleshes out a world with snarky, take-charge women and sexy men. She writes funny scenes which make you giggle. This has the potential to be a great series.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the supernatural handled in quite this way. It’s novel and it’s fascinating and kept me anxiously flipping pages to find out what would happen next. I loved Dottie and Chase. They’re both such wounded souls but they’re perfect for each other – even if they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) recognize it all those years ago. I can’t say I was surprised by the identity of the villain, but there’s some new information unearthed with that revelation that I would have loved to dig into deeper. The ending also gives us some interesting surprises that I can’t wait to read more about in future books. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
Dottie comes to Syn City to see a roller derby bout, gets murdered, and becomes a Fury. Chase loved Dottie when they were kids, but then he had to leave town in a hurry. When he sees her again at the bout, it seems like fate… but not a start forward to happily ever after. The set up of this world was amazing, with an amazing mix of Greek mythology and supernatural. I loved the Fury triads and their sisterhood, and the roller derby was both great comic relief and a blast! I’m excited for more in this series - if they’re anything like this book, they’re going to be awesome!
This was a great book about a human going to supernatural event and being killed... only to be resurrected by a Fury to avenge her death. Except shes the klumsiest Fury ever!! And her old flame is her and he claims that they are fated!! He did a blood oath to the original Fury to help find her killer. And now they are finding out that the killer is killing more people and they can't find out who it is... and they need to find out before the killer takes Dotties cousin!
She has got rid of her ex and thought things would get better so she went to Sin City. She will get killed and her ex will return begging for a blood pact. She will become a fury but it is not going to make things easier. Who killed her? Will she find them? Will she be his fated mate? See just how it all goes and if she will not die again.

Luna Joya is coming in hot with a brand new series!
How to Date a Fury exceeded all my expectations! A fantastic engaging story with some pretty unique characters. What’s a Luna Joya story without some heat? She definitely brought that and more!
A wonderful start to a series. I look forward to reading more! If you like fantasy romance with some heat, look no further. Go ahead and binge read this book! You deserve it. I give this 5 stars.
I thought the story was cute and fun! It was definitely a page turner to see what was going to happen next or at all. I especially liked the furies. All of them were so unique and interesting. The family dynamic was hilarious. It reminded me of my siblings. I also enjoyed Chase. I don't think he was as bad as she thought he was, but he was arrogant. I enjoyed their dynamic and I really enjoyed the story. I can't wait to read more by this author!
