As someone suffering with colitis--where spice and lactose is to be avoided--more than half these recipes have both. These are extremely basic and disappointing meal options (not even options for my personal colitis intolerances) with little nutritional value. These recipes are not geared toward someone with GI disorders. I was expecting more nutrient rich, anti-inflammatory recipes. I would read this with caution. I was also hoping for more (really any) gluten-free ideas too as wheat is pretty hard on the GI tract.
The introduction is a useful if basic nutshell introduction to Crohn's Disease and Colitis, and actually useful if basic would be a good way of describing the whole book. A great point of departure for more intriguing culinary adventures and a good everyday addition to the kitchen bookshelf. Nice soup and pie recipes. Not world-beating but a good basic reference.
This is primarily a recipe book with a very short intro about foods that people with Crohn's or colitis have trouble with. I was expecting more information about types of food to avoid, why they need to be avoided, etc.
If you are simply looking for a recipe book this may fulfill that need.
As a person with moderate-severe crohn's disease, I found this book pretty nifty. The recipes I've tried in it are pretty yummy and it covers a lot of bases. :)
