A few weeks have passed since that nightmarish summer, and for JJ Carson the future is uncertain.
Thrown into care and banned from seeing his uncle, the strange mist that follows him around has become his one and only companion. Each day it grows stronger and more powerful, but that only draws the attention of a strange doctor with an even darker plan.
As for Darcie Duffield, life is back to normal, as she returns to school and desperately tries to forget the boy she met at the river, and the mysterious power he possessed.
But when her friend goes missing, and a ghost from the past returns, Darcie realises she’s barely scratched the surface of Fortune’s Well’s hidden secrets, and the sinister truth that lies beneath.
Born and raised in the county town of Dorchester, Dorset, Sim began scribbling away stories on scraps of paper since before he can remember. He spent a lot of his childhood on adventures walking the dogs in the woodland surrounding Thomas Hardy's cottage with his family. Something about the cottage and 'the man what wrote stuff' who had lived there sparked a fire inside him, it was from there he began to focus on writing more seriously.
In 2012, Sim signed up to Open University to study Creative Writing alongside working full time. He isn't quite sure how he made it out alive, but he graduated with honours and began using the skills he had acquired to edit and redraft old work.
The Storm is the first short to be published, followed by The Willow which is available in both eBook and paperback.
Other works include a supernatural romance novel for young adults which is currently in development.
Highly entertaining novel from two authors I really admire. What a page turner! Loved it. One word sums it up perfectly: exciting!
This is full of supernatural excitement, teen emotion, (loved the relationship vibes between J J and Darcie,) and magical powers!
There is a fair amount of dialogue in this book but the speech is written enviably well that it manages to carry the story seamessly.
You would not guess this is written by two authors, it flows so naturally.
The plot is well devised carrying on with ease from the 1st book in the series, Fortune's Well Book 1 Hangman's Revenge, which I read and enjoyed very much.
There is a curious and explosive episode about the mirror girl that leaves me wondering hey how did that happen! The ending brings exciting elements that will encourage the reader into the next book, Fortune's Well, Book 3, Days End.
There is an awesome teaser snippet at the end.
Look forward to reading more in this enticing supernatural series! Highly recommended.
Second book in Fortune’s Well series and a brilliant carry on from where we left the story of JJ and Darcie.
JJ hasn’t spoken to Darcie since the social services took him away from his uncle but doesn’t blame her anymore. His uncle is trying to stay clean to get JJ’s care back and, in the meantime, JJ has to keep his head low, whilst living with his foster family. JJ has learned how to control the mysterious mist that flows from his body too.
Then everything changes when the ‘police’ knock on his door and take him away. When JJ wakes up, his life has changed again and not for the better. Now he’s stuck in a room, handcuffed and drugged and the mean lady knows about his powers – he has nowhere to hide, just hoping Darcie and his uncle don’t give up looking for him.
And as for Darcie – well, she uncovers more secrets than she’s bargained for in this fast paced second instalment.
A really enjoyable read full of my favourite elements. There is a healthy dose of the supernatural and unexplained and a good amount of conspiracy, pseudo science and good versus evil together with some back history regarding the mysterious town that is the back drop. There is a familiar feeling to the story and the hidden powers, unleashed by emotion and anger, which reminds me very much of Stranger Things. I think this was heightened when under stress droplets of blood escaped the perpetrator’s nose. This isn’t a criticism as I’m a huge fan of Stranger Things. I loved all the characters and how they’d developed since the first part of the story, which I also loved. I was left desperately craving the knowledge f what happens next and my appetite was well and truly fed by the sneak peek at the end. Great writing, loved it thank you.
Where did I find it: it’s the second book of the Fortunes’s Well series. That’s the name of the town the book is set in.
What I liked: that the two main characters had mysterious powers that would help them fight the bad guys. The fact we didn’t know who they were was terrifying for JJ and Darcie, and intriguing for me as the reader,
What I didn’t like: that the lady from child services removed JJ from his home and placed him in foster care. The new parents didn’t treat him well. They weren’t cruel, just indifferent. That was sad, although crucial for the story.
Overall: again, I loved it. The twist of the ghost from the past mentioned in the description was clever. JJ being held against his will, and the emergence of his true powers made this story fascinating and captivating. This is a superb series with splendid characters. I’m thrilled to hear a third book is coming soon.
Once again Chantelle Atkins and Sim Alex Sansford have expertly blended their writing voices together to continue the story from Fortune's Well of JJ and the strange mist he can control. After being taken from his Uncle's farm and having his contact with Darcie cut, JJ is made a prisoner. In the search for him, both teens discover more about the town's past and its secrets. JJ isn't the only one with powers and the reveal of who else has them and how the powers came to be is just one of the great things about this book. Also noteworthy is the twist return of a character introduced in book one, and the cliffhanger ending to lead to book 3, which I can't wait to read! Highly recommended for fans of small-town secrets, powerful teens, and paranormal storylines.
I was so looking forward to this second book in the Fortune’s Well series and I wasn’t disappointed, right from the start you are back in the fast paced drama. You learn more about the characters as they continue to grow and you even change your mind about one of them from the first book! It keeps you gripped and wanting ymore all the way through and now I’m left like I was when I read Hangman’s Revenge, eagerly waiting for the next book.
PROJECT PANDORA. I'd been waiting for the next book in the Fortune's Well series and I'm not disappointed! Project Pandora flows on beautifully from the first book and continues the drama and action. Easy to read and well paced, this book kept me reading until I had finished it. Roll on the next one!
Project Pandora by Atkins and Sim Alex Sansford. Book 2 of fortunes well. Thrown into care and banned from seeing his uncle, the strange mist that follows him around has become his one and only companion. Each day it grows stronger and more powerful, but that only draws the attention of a strange doctor with an even darker plan. Really enjoyable read. Love Chantelle books. 4*.
If you like YA fantasy, this is a good one. JJ and Darcie's stories continues, as they search for answers and try to stay safe. I definitely recommend starting with book 1. There's mysterious bad guys and a few surprises that kept me reading without stopping.
This is the second book in the series and continues from where the first left off. Full of mystery and supernatural elements I really enjoyed this read!
A really exciting sequel that I was anticipating a lot before I read! The story gets darker and more twisted than before, now other people know of JJs powers! As in the last book, I especially enjoyed the relationship between Darcie and JJ progressing throughout the book which I think is impressive considering the book is written by two authors!
