Nari is settling into her role as queen of Evernigh, while Paisley Crossway boards the Vesper destined for the mythical Isle of Ashlocke to find out more about their parents. Paisley finds adventure—and love—on the high seas, but when Nari gets premonitions about Paisley’s journey, she and Elleck must figure out how to stop what’s coming, before the new danger Paisley has awakened destroys all of Evernigh.

Rowan Aurum is sick of walking in his brother’s shadow, and a trip to a mysterious island sounded like just what he needed to rid himself of his lingering feelings for Nari. He never imagined he’d end up captured by the famed and dreaded pirate crew of the Despair, nor that he would fall head over heels for another feisty female who might break his heart.

The Isle of Ashlocke is shrouded in mystery for a reason, and the Crossway sisters and Rowan are all about to find out why—but their best hope for survival lies where they least expect it.

Jump into the high seas adventure in this second book of The House of Aurum trilogy!

M. J. Padgett is first and foremost a mom. Her free-spirited daughter has quite the vivid imagination, and her antics sometimes find their way into her mommy’s work. She is a lover of all things chocolate, a Grimm and Dickens addict, a self-proclaimed smarty-pants, and an introvert to the core.

Writing is her true passion (after raising her daughter, of course), and she writes as often as possible. One of her favorite things about writing is creating a world where people can escape reality for a little while, maybe even walk away feeling hopeful about the real world around them. When it comes to reading, she loves a book that can make her forget where she is no matter the genre. If she can get lost and feel like the characters are her real friends, she’s a happy reader.

I enjoyed the first book in the series, Evernigh, but this book was even better! I loved Paisley and Sebastian and getting to see Nari and King Elleck again...but Rowan stole the show along with a certain pirate captain.

The banter is strong in this book and there are so many twists and turns that kept me turning the page!

I can't say too much or I'll spoil it for everyone, but you definitely need to read this book if you love pirates, mermaids, magical elements, strong and sassy heroines, found family, and more!
