Beyond the Mountains

Rate this book
We kissed once; when we were teenagers at a party.
It was my first kiss and my first crush on a girl I could never have.
If I had known then that she'd be the love of my life, I would have done things differently.

My family moved away from the town I grew up in, but now I've moved back to start a life there.
I never forgot about Hannah, but seeing her on her grandmother's front porch made my body heat.
I can't help but notice the shock of electricity when our eyes meet and recognition fills her gaze.
She is the only woman I've ever wanted.
The only woman I've dreamed about.
The only woman who was made to be mine.

Beyond the Mountains is Book 1 of the Awakening Love series, but can be read as a stand-alone. It is a spicy, 18+ romance with the following small-town romance, second chance romance, cinnamon roll hero, stubborn heroine, sexy farmer next door.

The quickest way to lose this reader is to insert crap about OP. I read because I want the story with the 2 MCs -not about any of their ex lovers. It brings nothing to the story to insert that crap other then to piss people off and DNF.

Jack and I were together for two years, and he never used to be so brutal. In the beginning, he was kind and attentive, always there for me. He caught my eye at a marketing conference I attended for work. I gave a presentation on the uses of social media and met his eyes as I spoke. Sitting in the front row, he was unmistakably checking me out, his eyes skirting down my body and pausing on the curve of my hips and breasts. Watching him watch me took my breath. He wore a white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, and smart gray slacks. His short blonde hair curled around his ears, and his striking blue eyes cut me to the core.

After the conference, he approached me at the hotel bar and the rest is history. The chemistry I felt with him was instant but only physical. I couldn't resist the fire I felt between my legs every time he touched me. At the time, I thought I'd be with him forever, but that was before I realized what a douchebag he is.

an amazing quick read.

you guys know I’m such a sucker for small town romance AND second chance romance so I had to read this. this book also had some yummy scenes in it 😏😏

i didn’t feel that connection with the fmc and there were some spots in the book that either felt too fast or too slow.

however….OMG LAWSON IS LIKE MY DREAM man.

like i had moments in the book where I was yelling at Hannah like “BRO WTF, he’s literally perfect and you’re being so dumb right now”

anyways, love Lawson lmao.

cant wait to read the rest of the series🤭

*An Incredible Romance

I had such a hard time putting this book down once I had started it because I was immediately drawn in by the characters and the writing style. But because I also wanted to savor the story, I paced myself at least a little bit. Lawson was such an emotional character and I loved that he was so in tune with his emotions and wasn't afraid to speak up about what he wanted and how he felt about things. He also made it clear he wasn't afraid to fight for the things he wanted either. Yup, Lawson was an incredible book boyfriend indeed.

Something else I really loved was that Hannah was such a badass herself. She could stick up for herself when the situation called for it. And though she did have a bit of trouble asking for help when she needed it, Lawson and her Gram knew her well enough to know when they needed to just hop in the car with her and do what needed to be done. She and Lawson were a great match and I liked that the female character was the one that was a bit more reserved with her feelings and the male character was so open and honest with his.

The character development was beyond amazing and I was all about Lawson and his family from the first chapter. The more I learned about them, the more I wanted to learn about them. Which is part of why I'm so excited that Robin will be continuing this as a series! It seems that each sibling is going to be the focus of their own book and I can't wait to read more about all of them. That's one of the best things about series like this to me. We get to read more about the characters that weren't the main focus of the first novel and as we go to each of the next novels in the series, we also get to read more about the main characters from the novel before when they become the background characters.

This book was the perfect amount of spicy and the way Lawson treated Hannah had me swooning. I also liked that there was some action but it didn't take away from the love story that had been developing between Lawson and Hannah from the time they were teenagers. Their romance was so well written and well developed, it felt so real reading it. It was a truly beautiful story that unraveled between these two characters. I'm also always up for a romance novel with a cowboy and Lawson was the very definition of that. I can only hope that each series will have more cowboy characters added in for me to swoon over the way I did with Lawson.

This is the first novel I've read by Robin Blaire, but I will absolutely be coming back for more. I was able to receive an advance reader copy for review but as soon as it was released I was also right there buying a copy for my Kindle because I know that this is a book I'm going to want to read again and again. I also have a feeling that the series is going to be one that I'm going to want to read over and over again. So while this was the first novel I read by Robin Blaire, it certainly is not going to be the last. I think I have found another favorite author to add to my list! I cannot recommend this book enough!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

My favorite trope is friends to lovers, so this childhood friends to lovers/second chance romance checked all the boxes for me.

I love the matchmaking, sweet and knowing southern Gram. She gave the vibes of that scene in Nicholas Sparks “The Lucky One” when Beth is doing dishes and looking out the window, checking out Logan working and Ellie is like “Those dishes are as clean as they’ll ever be.” 🤣

Top 3 favorite quotes that gave me butterflies and imo were phenomenal writing. 🦋

“Wondering if it’s you they love, or the idea of you they love. Real love, real passion is much more than that. Real love leaves you aching for more, desperate for the one person created to be your other half. When you find someone you would give everything for, that’s how you know.”

🥹🥹🥹

“I drink him in, enraptured by his kiss.”

My heart ♥️

“Come for me, Hannah, only for me. Don’t be afraid to scream for me. No one can hear.”

It’s giving man written by a woman, like HELLO with the dirty talk 🥵

The book has a touching HEA and if you like a man that goes down on his woman ALOT, this book is totally for you. There are many a scene with that. 😉

Thank you so much Robin, this sweet and spicy southern romance was phenomenal. 🥰

Received as ARC - honest review

This book was not at all what I expected, it was more. Lawson and Hannah share an experience of 7 minutes in Heaven as young teenagers,  around the age 14. He was the perfect gentleman then, and throughout the rest of his life he stays true to that. He comes across as a strong, sensitive man that isn't afraid of an emotional release such as tears or yelling in frustration. (Sometimes you just need to vent it out)

Hannah has no idea that a kiss on a dare as a teen would have such an impact on her life as an adult. She is raised on the farm by her grandparents after her mom passes. When she grows up and moves away, she makes some no-so-good choices and pays for them dearly. Her guilt and shame over those decisions affect her relationships with those she most cares about.

When Lawson re-enters her life, he just wants to love and protect her. Hannah doesn't feel worthy. Extreme measures ensue, promoting both Lawson and Hannah to take good long looks at what they want. This slow burn, hard fought for HEA was a great read.

Possible trigger warnings but not necessarily needed (not for me, but some need them)

Death of parents mentioned

Revenge porn with bondage

Moderate violence

Reviewing as an ARC reader.

This book was such a sweet second chance romance. Lawson is a dream, from caring for his siblings after being orphaned and his neighbor to the relentless way he goes after Hannah and showing her that he cares for her and he will not walk away. His actions are hasty and he always put her feelings and wants before his own. I also really like that Lawson showed his emotions, tearing up for a women he’s fighting so hard to see that he’s what she needs is something that more often than not is not shown and it’s refreshing to see it.

Hannah’s character is extremely relatable to anyone who has ever been in a relationship where their body is used. Robin Blaire was able to show how that type of relationship can mess with a persons head and make them feel as though they aren’t worth of anyone else’s love.

The Cooper siblings are adorable and I can not wait to see what Blaire has in store for them, especially Livi.

Overall the plot of the story is solid and made my heart feel warm.

As far as smut goes Blaire did a great job of scene work and creating a friction that is carried through out each scene until Hannah and Lawson give into their desire for one another. Lawson is also the dream man for loving the go down on Hannah the way he does.

Beyond the Mountains by Robin Blaire. I absolutely loved this novel! Perfect amount of spice, character introduction and development, tells a beautiful story. I fell in love with Lawson!! Highly recommend a TBR add! A second chance romance where a middle school game of seven minutes in heaven turned into a happily ever after.

Hannah is a strong, sensitive, caring character. I loved seeing her develop to not only forgive herself, but allow herself to be happy even in the tough times.

Lawson is the perfect southern gentleman. He takes care of his family and makes Gram a part of his family long before Hannah returned. He is sincere, patient and caring. His love for Hannah has defied the odds and shows his resilience on waiting for her to be ready.

They are a perfect couple together. Strong character development. Strong love and hope. A beautiful happily ever after. The perfect amount of spice added in as well.

I’m disappointed. I wanted to love this because I truly enjoy Robin Blaire but this book was so not it. Cringy dialogue, a mess of typos/grammar/tense/formatting issues, and an unlikeable FMC made this a near-DNF. I really struggle with books that try to hide what the main character is concerned with and having to wait 2/3 of the book to find out what her ex had done was tedious at best. Not my favorite, won’t recommend it, but if you can read past basic editing errors, you may yet enjoy the story.

I received this as an ARC for my honest review

Lawson found the love of his life when he was a kid, then his parents moved and he thought he would never see her again.

Hannah thought she had it all together until a couple of Decisions. Turned out to be the wrong ones.

I was hooked from the being of the book, just when you think you know what's gonna happen, plot twist and I loved every minute! Lots of spice for you as well! 100% worth the read!

This book was absolutely amazing! A beautiful story of childhood love and second chances, as well as recovering from trauma. Lawson fighting to keep Hannah by his side while supporting her, even when she didn't want him to, was a great show of what it means to really care.

I honestly feel like my thoughts are gonna jumble, so I'll leave it at this...

This book was wonderful, and I am so glad I read it!

10/10 would recommend
10/10 would read again

This was such a sweet romance! They met when they were kids & grew up into two people who are meant to be together! I loved everything about Lawson and his family! They all loved each other and Hannah with their whole hearts! My heart hurt for Hannah and what she has been through but I’m so happy she got her happy ending with Lawson! I can’t wait to see what she brings with the rest of the series! 😀❤️😀❤️

Second chance and female empowerment.

Characters could be childhood friends, sweethearts and reconnect as adults and their connection is undeniable. I love the tension which finally allows the truth to come out. Enjoyed Hannah's tough exterior as she pulls herself out of trouble and years of bad decisions. Read it for the romance but also for the strong plot for claiming your own power.

It’s okay but didn’t finish

I got a little over 60% through before I called it quits. I don’t really care for stories that allude to something but won’t just say what it is, and I didn’t care for the main character Hannah at all. Instead of talking through the things bothering her she shut everybody out, and it was getting old for me. I still gave four stars because overall I like the story line and it is written well, it’s just not my cup of tea.

All I can say is Lawson is the cutest man ever. I’m not really a second chance romance gal but Robin may have just changed that for me. I absolutely loved the characters and how Lawson was so shy and sweet, it was so nice to see a mmc who wasn’t controlling for once. Gram being in love with Lawson was just too cute and had me giggling while reading.

Sweet story about second chances and small towns. Character dialog was a little choppy in places but overall a great small town romance.
