Dragon shifters, Pirates, and Unicorns...Oh my!

Ananya Jones is a nobody or so she thought. She's a typical teenager with a completely boring teen-aged life until the nightmares began. The acrid smell of sulfur and the heat of an abyss fills her room upon awakening. Terrified, she brushes the dreams away and tries to focus on her life. Being a Sophomore in high school was hard enough without the weird things happening to her body. Everyone thinks she's a nerd already, how would they respond if they knew about her dreams, her skin glowing, or the weird things in her eyes? They would probably taunt her and make her out to be a freak. She thought she had everything under control until....Sydney Jenkins entered her life.

Sydney Jenkins didn't know how much longer he would be allowed to live in the human realm. He'd been here too long already without finishing his mission; to find the missing Princess of Asura. Only when she is found can the seven dragon tribes finally be made whole. Pretending to be a human had been tough. He had to hide his dragon-shifting abilities. After all, the entire human race would not only freak out but throw him in a cage and dissect him. No, that was not for him. The humans were not ready to know that other worlds with mystical beings existed. No, not yet. One day, he thinks he's found her. How can he tell her who she really is? Would she believe him? If it isn't her then what would he do as his time was running out?

Ananya is a typical innocent young teen who hangs out with her best friend, Cynthia. Weird things start occurring no explanation can solve. She receives a private note stating to meet someone. When the occurrences happen in front of others, everything will change. The most popular boy in the school is the one to meet her. He tells her of a tale of a lost princess, dragon shifters and takes her to another land. When she discovers the truth of her birth, she will take Sydney and travel to the other lands seeking answers. While there, she will discover a world comparable to that of Alice in Wonderland! She will be kidnapped by others, saved, and taken again. They make friends with a unicorn that will travel with them. While trying to get home, they will stumble upon another kingdom that forces them to part ways…for now~ There is another hired by a queen to seek out Ananya and bring her back where she was once held~ This is a fairytale designed to enrapture the reader to new worlds and possibilities in a quest that seeks the truth~ It ends in a cliffhanger…so be prepared to wait for the next installment~

I was given a copy of this book through voracious readers, and I’m glad this was one I chose. This book reminded me a lot of Alice in Wonderland and the Witch and the Wardrobe. The characters were well written, and there was a lot of mystery and intrigue throughout. It did end on a cliff hanger, but it makes me want to read the next installment that much more.

Lost Princess by Rhaine Storm

"What was that about?" Her father asked.
"I have no idea." Her mother relied.
"Teenagers."
The two of them went back to watching the news.

Ananya's world is turned upside down when a mysterious boy from her forgotten past shows her who she really is.

She thinks she's normal, but she finds out she is a long lost Princess, from an enchanted realm. In one afternoon, when she and Sydney skip school, he shows her a whole world she didn't know existed.

The authors does a great job describing the universe while still allowing room for your own imagination. The story flows well and the characters are relatable.

Does a unicorn named "Sugar" catch your interest? This book has Pirates, dragons, fairy folk, and much more.

Now that Ananya knows that truth about who she is. Will she go back to her old life? Will she be able to?

The book was a good set up to the full series. I can't wait to read what happens next.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only.

The plot as a whole is interesting. I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. As a warning to readers, this does end on a cliffhanger. I did expect that a bit considering that it's the first book in a series, but it's one of those where it just kind of ends in the middle of the story, so you definitely have to get the next book to get the full story. Had I realized it was going to end on such a cliffhanger, I wouldn't have read the book, especially considering the next book is not yet available.

I am a bit confused if the author was trying to go for some sort of Biblical/allegorical story. If so, I missed the allegory. She does, though, use several unusual Biblical names, including Lazarus, Enoch, and Ephraim. Since there were multiple Biblical names (and ones that generally aren't used in books), I can't really overlook the potential connection.

Overall, while this was an interesting book, I had a difficult time reading it. For the most part, the dialogue feels fake and forced. There are a lot of grammar mistakes, most notably punctuation issues as well as verb-tense issues. There are a few paragraphs where the author switched between past and present tense, sometimes even in the same sentence. I also felt like there were a few places where the plot was confusing. Overall, I felt like this book had a lot of potential, but I doubt that I'll be reading the next installment in the series when it comes out.

As a warning to readers, there is some mild swearing in the book. They are mostly words that some people may not even consider swear words. While there are no graphic sexual scenes, there are some really cringe-worthy, awkwardly uncomfortable kissing scenes. Some people may love these scenes. I wasn't a fan. The violence is pretty mild, although several characters do end up with head injuries.

A good concept, but a little hard to read. A teenager with fainting spells learns that she isn’t the person she thought she was. I liked the concept of this book, but reading it was a bit rough. Lots of tense changes, and cringey dialogue, made it difficult to make it through. I think the characters needed a lot more depth, and the dialogue needed a lot of work, but otherwise there was a lot of action and complicated relationships I thought were good.
