This one was so not for me.
A one dimensional hero, a heroine who could do just about anything- including take care of herself, thank you very much- and a villain who wasn't all that bad to begin with, and you get a thoroughly blah paranormal romance.
Despite the author attempting to hook us with immediate graphic sex, usually not a problem for me, I totally couldn't get into this book and found myself skimming through most of it.
I simply could not grasp why the H/h would ever be together and therein lay the crux of my problem with the book- well much of my problem anyway. This outer layer of distaste is coated with the hero's star-shaped coronal appendage and it's instant orgasmic inducing fluid. (Hey, I like catlike appendages as much as the next paranomral lovin' gal, but this? Too much, too ... icky.)
Combine all that with a nonsensical plot, and you get a forgettable paranormal romance.

tl;dr: If you're a man, or a writer, don't read this. Just... don't. I can't speak for women who don't write.
A friend of mine recommended the Cat Star Chronicles to me a long time ago. After all, I write catboy/catgirl smut, I should be able to enjoy some of it. So let me say off the bat that I tried, I really did, to enjoy the second book, Warrior, and in that I have failed utterly.
Here's your basic plot: In a science-fictional universe, our heroine lives on a world that has turned its back on technology. She knows her world has a starport, but nobody goes there, and in fact people teach their children that the stars, indoor plumbing, books, vaccinations, and decent communications are for crazy people. Sane people lead, and subject their children to, short, brutal lives in a sub-gunpowder world of furs and swords. She's also a "witch," which is the author's poorly-reasoned shorthand for someone with psionic powers, including talking to animals and setting stuff on fire. A supporting character drops off the romantic hero-- a cat-man supersoldier who's ill with an unspecified problem. The witch is supposed to heal him, at which point the supporting character will come back and claim his slave.
I fully believe Cheryl Brooks is a woman, rather than a man masquerading as one. And as a man, I was offended from the very first sex scene: his penis is large, prehensile, knubby in just the right way, and worst of all, exudes a pre-seminal fluid, the scent of which is a perfect aphrodisiac to humans, and the taste of which induces orgasms. It's wish-fulfillment of the worst sort. Every sex scene thereafter is built upon these premises; our characters aren't so much in love as she's addicted to opiates he exudes.
After their mutual compatibility is established, the supporting character comes back to reveal that something terrible has happened, and he needs the unified tracking skills of the witch and the cat-man to right a terrible wrong. What follows from this is a far, far too wordy journey through the snow to a distant keep and a final battle. Worse, the witch character, despite her rejection of all things technological, has the Weltanschauung of an American coastal liberal who's never thought too hard about her ethical and moral choices. She talks and she talks, often in tell-don't-show form, to the reader and the characters, pointlessly retreading the same ground in chapter after chapter. The epilogue is a piece of breathless, "Reader, you won't believe what happened next!" nonsense. I kept re-wording whole scenes in my head to show myself that important plot points could be revealed in dialogue and action without "as you knows" in front of them. An experienced writer could have done it easily.
Cat Star Chronicles: Warrior reads like an ex-valley girl hauswife decided to write something vaguely like the Kushiel series, only without education, voice, or wit. If you're a man, you'll be insulted by the hero: He's a cardboard cutout with a massive strap-on dong dripping a mixture of Astroglide and meth. If you're a writer, you'll just be insulted.

The Cat Star Chronicles are a series of science fiction romance/erotica books by Cheryl Brooks about a race of catlike people. Their planet was destroyed, most of their population killed, and the few remaining Zetithians sold into slavery. Each book tells the story of one of these slaves. “Warrior” is the second book in this series and it’s a hard one for me to categorize. It’s not necessary to have read the first one, although I did and enjoyed it too.
Tisana is a witch, the only child of a witch who was the only child of a witch ad infinitum. She’s had lovers, but can only have a child with ‘the one’. But considering how rarely she sees any other people, she may never get to meet him! Then an old lover and current overlord drops a desperately ill new slave at her door. She has one month to heal him. In less than 24 hours, he’s pleasured her senseless and tried to escape. Those things that make him so very different from every other male are the same things that make him such a valuable slave…and her ‘one’.
Leo is a Zetithian—one of a race hunted to near extinction for their sexual prowess and prized as a captive or slave…at least by the women. Zetithians have hormones that can ensnare females and semen that by itself produces climax, even by just touching the skin! (Where can I find one of these?) In any event, he’s become accustomed to his slavery until he meets a woman who truly sees him as just a man.
This relationship progressed at first solely due to sex, which for me places this book into the erotica category. And even later in the book and throughout their relationship, the sexual aspect is the driving factor. Of course, with ‘talents’ like Leo’s, I can certainly see why!! My complaint is that I felt those same sexual aspects overwhelmed the emotional ones in Tisana and Leo’s interactions. Even though this bugged me, it didn’t keep me from enjoying their story, just made it a little more difficult to ‘get into’.
The secondary story in this novel, about two men, two children, power, status, and a deceitful woman was actually rather interesting. The journey required to further this plot is the journey that helped Tisana explore her newly strengthened powers and I though that was pretty clever.
I think my favorite characters in this book were the various animal species Tisana interacted with. I don’t want to give her secrets away, but even if you only pick up the book to learn about: an adventuring squirrel named Gerald, a dog called Max, a stallion named Sinjun trying to ‘pick up’ a mare named Morgana, Desdemona the cat, and Royillis the vulture; “Warrior” by Cheryl Brooks is well worth the time and money! The next novel in this series is “Rogue” and is scheduled to release in March 2009. I can’t wait to see what’s next for our Zetithians!

I got through maybe 60% of this book. To the end of chapter 10, anyway. But I had to draw the line when I read the heroine giving her alien feline lover a blow job while mentally communicating with a fucking squirrel.
SUPER EFFIN' AWKWARD...
Aside from Leo's speech being annoyingly formal and stilted, I wasn't fond of the heroine's first person POV. Leo was one dimensional because we never got to hear from him. The story dragged on and on but I was pushing my way through. Rafe's mysterious lack of an explanation had me frustrated, Leo's barely-there character was disappointing, but the god damned blow job just finished it for me.
And it's not just letting the squirrel watch. Oh no, she goes into a fair amount of detail about how much she and Leo both enjoy it and how great Leo's come tastes. She's explaining this, in her head, to a squirrel named Gerald, while she has a dick in her mouth.
WTF?! Has Gerald ever tasted human semen before? If so, WHY?! This is so messed up, I can't even begin to wrap my brain around it. Honestly, my brain may have short circuited and it's toast. This whole thing is so bizarre, it's not remotely funny to me, which is the only way I could have continued on. If it had been a bizarrely funny moment, I probably could have filed it away as part of the heroine's Snow White-esque attraction of animals. But it's not funny, at least not for me. It's just really fucking weird.

Warrior: The Cat Star Chronicles by Cheryl Brooks has got to be one of the most sensually imaginative books that I've ever read and it gives us an entirely new meaning to the words, "Tongue tantalizing, lip smacking, finger licking good". Whew! You gals want a hot book, well go no further because this one will sizzle your panties right off.
Tisana is a witch of rare talents. Her main talent though is healing and as with all healers they are a gentle sort who take care of anyone who might land upon their doorstep. Even gentle as she is, Tisana can still flay the skin off your back with words as sharp as razors that roll off her wicked tongue when you tick her off. For the most part though she is smart, sensitive, intelligent and oh so lonely.
Leo is the name that Tisana has given him since his true name is much to hard to pronounce. He is an off worlder as they call anyone not of their planet but an off worlder with talents that would make even the most virile of men weep with envy. Extraordinarily beautiful almost to perfection, he purrs like a kitten when stroked and fights like a tiger when provoked. With eyes of a cat and curiosity to match, Leo is much more than what he seems to be.
Our story starts out with Leo being almost dead and dropped at Tisana's cottage by his owner and master Rafe who just happens to be Tisana's ex. Rafe gives Tisana thirty days to heal Leo and not a day longer. Can she possibly bring this off worlder back from the brink of death without any working knowledge of Leo's species.
What starts out so innocently as a healer/patient scenario quickly turns into an inferno of lust with the most exotic description of Leo's attributes that I have had the pleasure of reading about in any male species. The old adage, "If it smells like a rose it must be a rose", well that's perfectly true here and let's just say, "Damn.........I need a bib"!
Our author has given us a sci-fi tale of true love, hot sex and even hotter orgasms. A magical story of hope, love and devotion so deep that to lose that which you love so much would mean the snuffing out of your own life like the wind blowing out a candle. Kudo's for the Snap, Snap, Sizzle, Sizzle that will leave you panting for more.

ok, got the first three books in the series as a bundle - slave, warrior and rogue. i'm going to do a cut and paste for my reviews because frankly, all three have become muddled in my mind as one large pile of sludge.
ohmigod. what an absolutely weird (and not the good kind) premise. a race killed off, their planet destroyed, because the male of the species offer the most insane orgasms merely by touching their pre-cum. their actual cum - why, you can't even manage the pleasure. add in the ruffled tip of their penises that rotate and flutter and you've got yourself the dumbest dick i've ever heard of.
the three books all introduce us to members of this race that were off-planet when it was destroyed. the last of their race. their value unprecedented. combine that nugget with the fact that all characters in these books are completely one dimensional - and dear reader, you must pass these books by. quickly.

Better than the 1st book
I enjoyed this novel better than the 1st because it was less inner dialogue with the heroine. Oh I enjoyed the banter she had with the animals, I found myself laughing out loud several times whiling reading it. The sex is still boring and dare I say cliche? For that reason I give the book 3 1/2 stars Well I'm off to read the next book, Rogue.

After enjoying the first book in the series I was really looking forward to reading Warrior but it wasn't as good as Slave the first book.
Tisana is an alien/human hybrid living on the planet Utopia, an Earth colony founded by those looking to get back to a simpler, non-mechanized way of life more in harmony with nature. The witches of Utopia are only female, rarely marry, and will only bear one daughter with a special male referred to as "the one." Leo, one of a band of Zetithian warriors captured when his planet was destroyed, and sold into slavery throughout the galaxy, has been beaten nearly to death by his former master, and is brought by his new owner to Tisana to heal him. Tisana cares for Leo, who finally stops trying to escape and accepts her ministrations, which begin to include mesmerizing lovemaking, until the two are drawn into a rescue mission by Leo's new owner, whose sons have been kidnapped by a neighboring village lord. Pursuing the boys through snowstorms and sword fights, Tisana must locate them by communicating with the animal population, and she must find a way to win her new lover/beloved from the jealous man who would do anything to thwart her if he knew that Leo was her destined "one".
Warrior is a sci-fi romance meets erotica romance and is brilliantly written by Cheryl Brooks. The background to the story is about a breed of warriors who are a mix between cats and humans and their planet has been blown up and any survivors are hunted down and killed and no-one really knows why. The Cat Star Chronicles is all about the few warrior survivors of the war who fought together and were all sold into slavery and how they've survived since, found their mates and are trying to find each other again.
Warrior was a little bit of a let down in my eyes. I really loved Tisana, I enjoyed reading her conversations that she had with the animals on her journey to save her ex-lovers son's as it was light relief from the heavy storyline and I found the conversations rather funny too. Leo wasn't overly talkative in Warrior and I couldn't quite get how Tisana and Leo were going to have an actual relationship when all they did was have sex! But clearly that worked out a-okay for them as they got their happily ever after.
It was great to see Jack and Cat appear again at the end of Warrior and to see Jack and Tisana form a bond of friendship together. Interested in seeing how they will all travel together.

Warrior fails to capitialize on the over the top sense of humorous sensuality that made the first book in this series, Slave (The Cat Star Chronicles), work for me. And actually Warrior was so plodding that, as contradictory as it sounds, I kept reading long after I lost interest in heroine witch/animal whisperer Tisana and her 'deep' chats with horses, squirrels, dogs and birds which were occasionally interspersed with her thoughts of enjoying feline humanoid Leo's lovely 'endowments' and special 'sauce'. Unlike the previous heroine, Jacinth, Tisana really just wasn't an interesting enough character to pull off the first person narrative, and her relationship with Leo (another enslaved Zetithian Warrior), had very little in the way of chemistry, despite the hero's ability to throw the heroine into an orgasmic coma.
In fact, the only reason I kept with Warrior so long (I made it four fifth's of the way) is that this was a very easy book to put down, so it gave me something to read while waiting to pick up the kids without the normal frustration of actually having to stop reading when it was time to go.
Brooks has three more of these stand-alone sci-fi/fantasy books in the works, up next is Rogue: The Cat Star Chronicles #3. I hope that at least one of these will be written from the gorgeous cat-guy's point of view.

A pretty awesome improvement on the second for the romance angle. I still don't think of this series as romance novels despite the love interest in the story and explicit descriptions of bodily functions in a sexual situation. If you read my review of the first novel you will understand what I mean. All the character issues are the same here.
The male has detailed description of his alien penis and what affect it has on women and he says very romantic lines but I get no major chemisty beyond just sex. It is a slight improvement on the first, there is a little chemisty but it reminds me of these ads we had in Australia where basically a bunch of men says stuff that women can only dream of:
'Sure I will clean the dishes, you look tired'
'Why don't I cook tonight and you enjoy a nice bath.' etc. Hence the joke. Same as this story, he would say stuff like 'I listen to everything you ever say.' etc.

The male has detailed description of his alien penis and what affect it has on women and he says very romantic lines but I get no major chemisty beyond just sex. It is a slight improvement on the first, there is a little chemisty but it reminds me of these ads we had in Australia where basically a bunch of men says stuff that women can only dream of:
'Sure I will clean the dishes, you look tired'
'Why don't I cook tonight and you enjoy a nice bath.' etc. Hence the joke. Same as this story, he would say stuff like 'I listen to everything you ever say.' etc.

Another quick read from author Cheryl Brooks. Nice continuation. Each story we learn a bit more about the "Cat" people and why their planet was blown up to bits. The reason is a bit silly, but still, if it is true, DA-YAMM. Hell hath no fury like a husband scorned.

Well, this series is just... all over the place.
The first book was about space travel and, considering that the male protagonists are alien, that seems on point. But the second is... about magic? The female is a witch.
I didn't read the blurb or any reviews before hand so I wasn't prepared for the change. I was expecting more space exploration or aliens.
After I accepted Tisana, in her little cottage, the village witch... The story was ok.
Leo is brought to her, so she can care for his injuries. They fall in love and the story mostly entails many descriptions of Tisana using her powers and them blooming because she is in love.
4 stars because it was hard in the beginning to switch from the expectation of a space story to a story about magic. And also because near the end of the story there is an awkward encounter where another man is holding Tisana and rubbing his arousal into her behind.
While she calmly does nothing about it.
And Leo is not far away from them.
Besides that, this author's writing isn't outright romance oriented but is... readable... and suspenseful at times. I don't know how to explain it exactly. The intimacy scenes are nice but the whole book reads more like ... A young adult's adventure series instead of romance.
It's a good read but if you're looking for romance to give emotional satisfaction, and not just some pleasant fiction... This is not the one for you.

Once again, I hated the awful sex scenes and the moronic insta-love, but really enjoyed the descriptions of the world they were on. A lot of the world-building was imaginative, if not presented in a coherent or detailed fashion.
All 3 stars are for the world-building, none for the romance.
The female protagonist sounded like a desperate nympho. At least the protagonist in the first novel was a tiny bit likeable, but this one was just a bawdy horn monger.
The descriptions of the animals were neat. I enjoyed that bit. And some of the secondary characters, like Rafe and Brandon, were pretty interesting, too.

Honestly my eyes started to glass over. Yes it's smut, yes I am amazed at his happy fun time tool. But the characters and story are nonexistent. That I don't mind the running theme of each slave being in different scenarios, but when it's just a copy past in every book, you really don't get much from it.

It takes place on a planet colonized by Earth quite some time back and the people has chosen to live at medieval levels to minimize their impact on the planet's ecosystems. Tisana, the local witch, has known nothing else but her village and it's inhabitants until an old lover brings his new, nearly dead, slave to her cottage demanding she heal him. But there's much more to the exotic slave than Rafe realizes. And Tisana is determined to find a way to set Leo free.

Like its predecessor, Warrior is not the book for every romance reader. And it is definitely not the book for most sci-fi/paranormal/fantasy readers. Warrior mixes some of the best elements of fantasy romance and sci-fi erotica. You've been warned.
Tisana is a witch, practicing her healing on the backwater planet of Utopia. The peaceful image one would expect of a world called Utopia isn't quite what you get. This is a planet where lords run what is essentially a feudal system and slavery is an acceptable practice. Tisana has never approved of slavery and when Rafe, her former lover, drops his new slave off for her to heal she isn't adverse to letting him escape so long as he has somewhere to run to.
Unfortunately, Leccarian--or rather, Leo, as she calls him--is a Zetithian. If you've read the first book in the series, Slave, you'll know why this means he has no where to go. If you haven't read Slave you could probably enjoy this book as a stand-alone but I think they should be read in order or you're missing out on a great story. But back to Leo... With no where to run to Leo stays with Tisana, healing not just from her potions and remedies but also from the pleasures they share.
When Rafe returns to fetch his slave Tisana has her own reasons for wanting to keep Leo. But Rafe needs them both! His children have been kidnapped and only Leo and Tisana can track their captors. The adventure that ensues is humorous and action-packed. But how will their journey end? Will Tisana find a way to convince Rafe to sell Leo to her?
I must admit this one didn't work as well for me as Slave did. I enjoyed it as a fantasy story but all of the mind-to-mind dialog between Tisana and her animal friends got on my nerves about halfway through the book. At one point I began to think of Disney movies like Snow White or Enchanted where the princesses talk to their animal friends all the time. I especially found the times when she spoke to the animals while engaged in sexual situations to be a little off-putting.
Leo was cute but seemed almost a sweeter version of Cat from the previous book and Tisana was kind of an air-head in comparison to the fiery Jacinth. Even still where Slave was a little too sci-fi for some readers this one might be just the right amount of fantasy to win new ones over to the series. I usually don't read the previews of the next book in the back but I have enjoyed the unique flavor of this one so much I had to see if Rogue was going to be as good and it certainly looks tantalizing. If you're looking for romantica at its finest but with a sci-fi/fantasy twist you can't go wrong with this series!

I'm sad to say that this one is probably my least favorite of the series. I can't quite pinpoint what doesn't work for me but I'm always ready to ditch Leo and Tisana and get onto the next book about halfway through. On the plus side, sexy feline aliens who like to love their women like no other species in the galaxy. YAY!
I do like Leo. He's got the sexy slave thing. He's willing to fight to protect his woman. While I can understand his "we have to live for the moment mentality" because of his slave status, it always bugs me a bit that he seemed so unwilling to fight to stay with Tisana. Yes, he's a slave, but for such a formidable warrior, he seems rather passive at times. Tisana herself is amusing but she's very ... resigned, for lack of a better word, to being alone. She expects the man who fathers her child to leave her. It makes for an odd dynamic in their relationship when they both want to be together but neither seems willing to TRY very hard to get to that point. To give Tisana her due, she does attempt to get Rafe to give and/or sell Leo to her but... I don't know. I can't explain it.
While this isn't my favorite, I still enjoyed the whole "I will give you joy unlike any you've ever known" vibe. Those cats sure do know how to make their ladies purr. Oh, and hey! The cats purr also! It's a purr-a-palooza!
I suddenly want to start cracking jokes about pussies and how they like to be petted. So, I'll stop here. Onto the next book!

This book is set in the future in an era of space travel, but takes place entirely on a fairly primitive world that doesn't use technology. The heroine is a witch with two special powers: setting fire/heating things with her eyes and communicating telepathically with animals. She's a healer and lives alone. Her love interest is a slave that was dropped off at her home on the brink of death. He's an off-worlder who resembles a humanoid cat. The premise of the story is that she and Leo (the slave) help his owner/her former lover (Rafe) get back his children from a kidnapper to earn Leo's freedom.
There are quite a few very explicit sexual scenes in this book, and the writing is odd, so I think this should be categorized more as paranormal erotica than anything else. The writing is SO very strange. I got the impression that I was reading the author's voice, not the character's voice, if that makes any sense. There was a very contemporary, modern tone to the writing style that seemed at odds with the setting. The story craft seemed odd, too. I got the impression that the form the story took was deeply influenced by the author's personal preference that we all just talk out our differences, rather than making sense for the situation in the story. I also got the distinct impression that the writer is more fond of animals than people to the point of being slightly disturbing.

This is probably the best 3-star series I've read in a while. Each adventure is fun, and our heros always get into a bit of trouble - classic space opera. The stories are well plotted and don't have holes or cheats.
But...
The romance is strictly "This must be my mate as he has a huge cock" instant love. And the sex scenes lack intensity. Yes, the characters tell you that what they are feeling is intense, but the descriptions are short and didn't really turn me on. Which is too bad, because the clever part of the sexual attraction to the Cats is quite compelling, and the various scenarios are creative. Each story has an epilogue that ties the series together, which is clever, and may lead to an all-star book later on.
The second installment involves a witch, a slave Cat warrior, and some medieval princes who have issues with each other. The witch is asked to heal the Cat, which begins the romance, and the princes provide the drama. Fun read.

"Tickled Pink"
Maybe that is not the best title for this review but
certain scenes had me in stitches, laughing out loud.
I've read Slave, Rogue, Hero, Outcast but Warrior was/is
THE Best in this series by far..
The book is sensual with a splash of adventure
but on top of it all,
it is funny as "all get out"!
Tishana is a witch and one of her powers is the ability to communicate with animals,
call her an animal whisperer if you will and
the commentary / dialogue between her and the animals is sooo funny!
No one besides Tishana can hear the animals,
so anyone else around only hears a one sided conversation..
The story is not very long and thought provoking but if you are looking for a 'lite' and quirky read with a little romance, this is the book.
I highly recommend reading about the adventures of Tishana and Leo!

Leo is practically dumped on Tisana's doorstep by her former lover so that she can heal him and he can be returned back into slavery.
As her time with Leo is coming to an end, she discovers that he is the "one". The father of her one child. Then her former lover returns insisting that she & Leo help track down the people responsible for kidnapping his children.
Along the way, Tisana and Leo are helped by several horses, dogs, a squirrel, a vulture and some other exotic animals. Only to find out that Tisana's former lover's children were fathered by another man. And his wife was somewhat responsible for their kidnapping.
