Cullen grew up in rural North Carolina, but now lives in the St. Louis area with his wife Cindy and his son Jackson. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. In addition to The Sixth Gun, his current projects include Crooked Hills, a middle reader horror prose series from Evileye Books; The Tooth, an original graphic novel from Oni Press; and various work for Marvel and DC. Somewhere along the way, Cullen founded Undaunted Press and edited the critically acclaimed small press horror magazine, Whispers from the Shattered Forum.
All writers must pay their dues, and Cullen has worked various odd jobs, including Alien Autopsy Specialist, Rodeo Clown, Professional Wrestler Manager, and Sasquatch Wrangler.
And, yes, he has fought for his life against mountain lions and he did perform on stage as the World's Youngest Hypnotist. Buy him a drink sometime, and he'll tell you all about it.
Red Buttons never got a dinner and neither will you, ‘pool.*
What would an interesting concept be, if it wasn’t done to death, wrung for every po$$ible dollar and sense of enjoyment that you can squeeze out of it?
Yeah, this is a sequel to one of the better, recent out-of-continuity Deadpool adventures, which was a nice mix of humor, zombies, super hero antics with a little pathos thrown in for good measure.
Deadpool made a noble sacrifice for humanity last volume, but since this a sequel you can gather that it didn’t stick. So somehow he’s back and he’s more eleven-eggs-short-of-a-dozen than usual.
The good news: There’s a whole bunch of Deadpools running around stirring up trouble.
The bad news: There’s a whole bunch of Deadpools running around stirring up trouble.
The new Deadpools aren’t as nice (or funny *sigh*) as our boy, and they want to turn the whole world into Deadpool-topia.
Jeff, what if I don’t want to be turned into a Deadpool?
Well, random Goodreader, that’s too damned freakin’ bad.
Just hold it in a little longer. I’m almost done.
Bottom Line: As sequels go this isn’t Police Academy 3 or Friday the 13th 6 VI and there’s no Ewoks, but what worked the first time (see above cuz I’m not typing it out again) just doesn’t quite gel here. The last issue here is a prequel of sorts and a return to Deadpool’s trademark lewd, frat boy humor. Praise Jeebus!
If I ever start a band, I’m calling it Meat In Motion Randy Monkey.
"Dying when you're not really sick is really sick, you know?"
"This world's not big enough for more than one Deadpool."
Spoilsies for anyone who hasn’t read Night of the Living Deadpool - if that’s an issue, read that book first, then come back for this!
The zombie apocalypse that began in Night of the Living Deadpool continues in Return of the Living Deadpool! Except Wade screwed up saving humanity from the zombies. His plan of making the zombies eat him, turning them into Deadpools and together taking back the world backfired and now the plague of ‘pools is even worse than the zombies. The ‘pools want the world for themselves and are plotting to turn everyone into a Deadpool! Deadpool to the rescue – take 2!
Sequels are rarely as good as the original and so it goes with Return. It’s still got moments of fun though – Bunn is definitely the best Deadpool writer out there so he can’t help but throw in some brilliant scenes amidst what is a rather pedestrian plot (by Deadpool standards!).
Like the last book, everything is presented in black and white like an old movie, except for Deadpool and because there are so many ‘pools, it’s practically a colour comic. Besides our protagonist, amnesiac Deadpool, there’s samurai-pool, monk-pools, 18th century French prostitute-pools, barbershop trio-pools, and Deadpools of different shapes and sizes (the monk-pools are especially fun, worshipping a religion with different denominations named after each Deadpool writer - the Kelly, the Duggan and Posehn, the Simone, the Remender, etc.!).
The story is mostly straightforward: amnesiac Deadpool and his new teen girl sidekick, Liz, hack their way through various ‘pools until they figure out a plan. In that sense, it’s fairly flat. The train sequence, where Deadpool helps Liz rescue her ma from the ‘pools, was definitely the highlight of the book. You see the gross transformation humans and zombies go through to become a ‘pool, but the “Go Fish” scene in particular was hella funny!
Return of the Living Deadpool’s not a great book but it’s an entertaining enough comic that doesn't do anything particularly amazing or memorable. Deadpool fans will find lots of fun, violent, whacky scenes to enjoy here.
Continuation of the previous book/4 issue series , it further explores the story with Deadpool not having any recollection of what happened before and the world has taken over a different route altogether. A girl stumbles upon him and together they try to save her family from their foe , now zombie turned deadpools alive and kicking and only worse hellbent over taking the world. Follow their adventures as they get trapped and hunted and as they try to raid those guys. It had a nice conclusion to the series so that was good.
This is the latest in a long line of Deadpool mini-series (in fact, this mini-series is a sequel to a previous mini-series) and, like most of them, it's pretty entertaining but doesn't quite live up to the main Deadpool book.
It's a zombie-movie pastiche that also takes a good-natured swipe at the Walking Dead comicbook. Deadpool fans who are also zombie fanatics will probably enjoy this one more than I did (despite my love of The Walking Dead, I'm not a lover of zombies in general).
I did like the Sean Of The Dead reference in the last issue, though.
The Merc With a Mouth finds himself in a messy predicament with Deadpool zombies, which only makes for a hilariously animated, yet bleakly emotional story.
The color treatment, black and white except for Deadpool's red.
And the zombies' dialogues, mumbling meaningless phrases instead of just moaning, with the joke behind those dialogues which are so mundane and familiar that it's pretty clear they're mocking modern society.
Ok the plot to this book is a little silly, but for the sheer fun factor I loved this book. Imagine a world where one out of a million douchebags can actually be a cool guy and save the world.....yea that guy is Deadpool. lol.
While this was still really entertaining, it wasn’t quite as good as the original in this series. I loved the Deadpool dialogue. Bunn seems to really utilize the humor and pop culture references very well. The title of the previous series and this series really make sense given what is going on and it stands for more than just a clever zombie pun! The four issues that make up this follow-up series were awesome, but I don’t know why they included the Prelude to Deadpool Corps #4 in this one.
Return of the Living Deadpool is a fun graphic novel to kick off a season of spooky comics. Imagine a zombie like virus that then turns into millions of Deadpools - there's already too much sexiness and sassy vibes to think about. This is a quick read and has a pretty fun twist ending and I am interested to see if anything came after this due to it.
Enjoyed this. It's not quite as good as the first one, and it gets a bit lost in the writing, but it's still a fun and original take on Deadpool and the zombie genre.
This story picks up after Night of the Living Deadpool. (See my review here.) The story doesn’t pick up exactly where the first volume leaves off, though. Instead, years have gone by and Deadpool has awakened, not knowing who he is or what’s happening. Also, not knowing that he has created a race that turned out to be far worse than just an apocalypse filled with zombies. In this humorous volume, Deadpool teams up with a teenager, Lizzie, and together they fight off the new-age zombie hoard.
Wowza, I love this series. Is there going to be another book? Because that would be super cool. Although I didn’t like this compilation as much as Night of the Living Deadpool, it was a mere half star difference!
I really enjoyed this continuation of the story. As most of you already know, I’m a huge zombie fan. If you weren’t convinced, the sampling in the above photo is just that: a sampling of all the zombie stuff I own. I don’t care what anyone says about it being overdone these days. I, for one, am super happy that there’s all kinds of zombie-themed stuff around versus when there was barely anything and I had to suffer and deal with my feels alone.
But, that’s not what this review is about. We’re here to talk about Deadpool and holy moly did I love this volume. Cullen Bunn always does good work on Deadpool. I especially like the comics he writes because there’s always a super awesome female character.
In this collection, that person is Lizzie, and gurlll is she fantastic. I absolutely love Lizzie and her interactions with Deadpool. Not only is she strong, but she’s 100% multidimensional, also being weak and vulnerable at many points in the story. Plus, she’s at times, quite hilarious, enhancing how funny this collection is.
Along with the great characters, the plot and writing are fab.Yes, I just said fab. Don’t pretend like Deadpool wouldn’t use that word. There is just so much to praise about this book. I honestly cannot get enough of Deadpool! Especially Deadpool written by Cullen Bunn. And especially Deadpool with zombies.
And. Oh. Em. Gee. Seriously. All. the. References. There are so many great ones! Plus, I about died at the Shaun of the Dead one. It was a beautiful moment. They were all beautiful moment. Every moment I was reading these comics was a beautiful moment.
The only semi-bad thing I can say about this book is that the storyline could have been just a smidge stronger. But, honestly, other than that, this was another perfect edition of Deadpool.
I highly recommend this comic bind-up to Deapool fans and especially those of you who are also zombie fans. Even if you aren’t huge on zombies, this series still has all the blood, gore, and humor that Deadpool fans have grown to love. You will not be disappointed with this story; I guarantee it.
This book, and I mean issues 1-4 is so much better than Night of the Living Deadpool. It's another quick read but I really enjoyed the story here. What's worse than a world full of zombies? A world full of zombies and deadpools.
I laughed out loud an numerous occasions while reading this and having another likeable character apart from Deadpool (is he really even likeable?) helped too as you cared more about the outcome.
My advise would be if you can get your hands on the first one from a friend or a library read it (it will take about 10 minutes) otherwise just go straight to this one. There is a brief recap at the start of this book anyway. Don't waste any money on the first book. You will be disappointed if you do.
How far has Deadpool come from his Rob Liefeld "New Mutants" days to now be parodying zombie films and Deadpool's own mythology. Cullen Bunn and Nik Virella have fun with this one, and the visual parodies really work. Much of the dialogue, however, is more sporadic: some of lines from Bunn's Deadpool are hilarious, others are standard fair and highly dated. Furthermore, it suffers from a real inconsistency of tone and doesn't seem to the really work with its premise as much as one would hope. Ultimately, it doesn't seem to have the freshness of the first Living Deadpool despite fairly strong art and Bunn's return as a writer.
Return of the Living Deadpool is a Deadpool graphic novel that collects issues 1-4 of Return of the Living Deadpool as well as issue 4 of Prelude to Deadpool Corps as a bonus. The main story arc, Return of the Living Deadpool, is written by Cullen Bunn (whose name I recognized from a Star Wars graphic novel that I once read titled Star Wars: Darth Maul) with art by Nik Virella. The story does not feature a lot of color; most of it is black and white except for when red is present (such as blood or Deadpool's costume) or when we see the Deadpool clones' outfits. The story, which is centered in a universe in which there has been a zombie apocalypse as well as an outbreak of murderous Deadpool clones who feed people to the zombies to add to their Deadpool clone army (it's kind of a long story that isn't fully explained in this graphic novel), is really wacky, but I have definitely come to expect that from Deadpool stories. I, however, not only found the plot to be wacky but also a bit convoluted, with some aspects not properly explained. I have to keep two things in mind, however, when I say that - (1) Return of the Living Deadpool draws a great deal of obvious inspiration from prior zombie stories such as its namesake Night of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, and The Walking Dead, and seeing as how it is ultimately a horror story, I have always said that horror is most effective when not everything is explained because what we fear most is that which we don't fully understand, and (2) this is actually a sequel to the graphic novel Night of the Living Deadpool, something that I didn't realize until after I was already a long way through reading this one, so some of the missing pieces will most likely be filled in when I go back and read the first graphic novel. I am also not too fond of the bonus issue that is included, which seems mostly to be included at random and is not really too enthralling of a story. (As stated previously, it is issue 4 of Prelude to Deadpool Corps, and it is written by Victor Gischler with art by Juan Viasco and coloring by Edgar Delgado. It involves Deadpool showing up in another universe to find a Deadpool zombie head in order to ask him to join his army of multiverse Deadpools.) One thing that I do find funny about the bonus issue is that there is a pirate captain featured as a character as well as his assistant, and his assistant's name is Mr. Smee. This is an obvious callback to Peter Pan, except the roles are somewhat reversed; the captain is a short rotund man, while Smee is a tall and slender man with a hook as his left hand. I find that to be a bit funny, but aside from that, there is very little to redeem that story. The primary story involving the zombie apocalypse and the horde of Deadpool clones, however, is a story that I very much enjoyed, especially since I really like Liz, the second main character of the story. There are two points of the story when Deadpool sort of breaks the fourth wall (which Deadpool is, of course, wont to do), and Liz says that she isn't going to pretend to know what he's talking about. I found this really funny because when Deadpool breaks the fourth wall, surrounding characters usually either ignore him or seem not to hear him, as they do not directly respond. I also really enjoyed the incarnation of the main Deadpool (even though not even he seems to technically be Deadpool, but I won't say any more than that because I don't want to give too much of the story away in this review). Deadpool is typically not a traditional hero - hardly even a hero at all, in fact. He is called the merc with a mouth not because he is a mouthy hero but because he is a mouthy mercenary, and he is, in fact, often heralded as being one of the most beloved superheroes even though he isn't really a superhero. He is, however, pretty heroic in this particular story, and I really enjoyed that aspect of it. I overall really loved reading Return of the Living Deadpool, but I, as I said, need to go back and read Night of the Living Deadpool.
A zombie apocalypse was unleashed in the world. A group of survivors must not only endure the dangers the living dead signify, but also, a new batch of these creatures that are upgraded thanks to a specific individual’s blood: Deadpool. A girl stumbles upon him and together they try to save her family from their foe, now zombies turned Deadpools alive and kicking, but the real Deadpool might represent the only hope for humanity’s survival. Cullen Bunn writes this peculiarly small horror story, staring our favorite mouthful mercenary, accompanied by Nik Virella’s art, both delivering a competent premise that might start off as a simplistic “zombie-outbreak” tale, with plenty of action, gore, and gruesome moments, to escalate the level of a story that presents a random plotline involving Deadpool’s blood mutating the average zombies, turning them on cannibalistic, hyper-violent versions of the original. As far as I’m concerned, this has nothing to do with the “Marvel Zombies” universe. There are no mentions of any other character from the Marvel Universe, and Deadpool seems to stand on his own as the only character connecting the dots, something similar to what the “MAX” signature accomplished with specific Marvel-characters. The mini-series seems to grab the typical “zombie-flick” trait of placing the story in the middle of the outbreak, so this time around, zombies already ended most of humanity, and the Deadpools took over, so the few remaining survivors are struggling to find a cure. Standard genre stuff. Adding Deadpool in this is simply adding an excentric element just to make the plot move forward, and to be fair with Bunn, he respects the personality of the character all the way through; adding some meta-jokes, a fair dose of action and blood, and an over-the-top interaction between him and the rest of his alter-egos. Virella’s art delivers; there’s an interesting aesthetic choice of making the comic black-and-white, or at least, overly gray in order to portray a creepy atmosphere reminiscent of the classic film ‘Night of the Living Dead’, having only the characters of Deadpool the ones with color. It does works as a stylish decision, and the comic is good-looking. With only four issues, this mini-series presents a curious concept, but its creative team makes it work. It’s a quick-ideal reading during the Halloween season, and while it is far from being as iconic and popular as the “Marvel Zombies” franchise, it is another fun, entertaining, and enjoyable horror flick in the Marvel Comics catalogue.

Sayılar: Return of the Living Deadpool #1-#4 - Prelude to Deadpool Corps #4
Druhý díl nám přináší návrat původního a jedinečného Wadea, který nehodlá svým špatným kopiím nic odpustit, tedy když zrovna neplní úlohu dobráka a nepomáhá jedné z přeživších.
Mohlo by se vám líbit, pokud: - hledáte nenáročnou akční zábavu a neodrazuje vás Deadpoolova typická ukecanost - chcete si dát druhý díl zombie apokalypsy s twistem
