Huzzah! I made it to my twenty-third birthday! Given how much dragon magic I have rolling through me now, doing its best to cook me from the inside out, this feat is no small thing. I’ve earned a hearty celebration and then some. I’m gonna party down at Sharmayne’s and let her ply me with as many of her cocktails as she wants. Her magic touch is exactly what I need after how nutty life in Traitor’s Den has been lately. I deserve every hypnotic, milky, swirling Moon Mixer she sends my way. Hell, I might get fancy and skip right on to a Roll in the Hay, maybe even a Sirens on the Rocks, and if I’m tipsy enough, end the night with a Dragon Slayer like a proper wild child. Who needs to be clear headed anyway? For one night, I can be one clown short of a circus. All the responsibility of being both sheriff and mayor of our fine, one-way town will still be waiting for me tomorrow.
It always is.
A night at Sharmayne’s oughta leave me loose and ready to finally take advantage of all the dragon shifter Rhett and the vampire Zeke keep trying to offer me—every damn day, all day long...and into the night. Their looks are heated enough that if all the power inside me weren’t already threatening to give me a good cookin’, their constant seduction would. Those men could sell heat to a roasting fire.
But trust me, what they’re sellin’, I’m lookin’ to buy. They say I’m their mate? Their queen? Well, bring it on. I’m wearing my favorite dancin’ boots.
Near on every free woman in the Den is looking to move in on them. Good thing they’ve only got eyes for me. And since I’m also the one stuck dealing with all the trouble they cause—and they get into trouble faster than a balloon at an overcrowded porcupine party—I may as well reap the benefits too. It’s past time to examine the goods...
Of course, just when I’m starting to get hot and heavy with my two guys, a knock on the door upends my world—yet again.
Why in tickled tarnation does nothing in our town ever go down the way it’s supposed to? ‘Cause plans are for losers, apparently. Even when they’re no-plan plans, my specialty.
Well, at least, I ain’t complainin’ none. Not one tiny, little bit. Not with who’s on the other side of my door.
Not till the sky starts falling, anyhow...
* A sexy fantasy western with growly shifters, sketchy vamps, peculiar mages and creatures, and one badass cowgirl sheriff. Within this small town, magic and gossip flow as freely as whiskey, and work and pleasure are nearly the same thing. Weird things happen on the regular in Traitor's Den. Come and join the quirky family, where everyone's packing. Oh, and don't mind the tiger.
* Loretta Maybelle Ray is hot stuff. When several fine cowboys vie for her affections, this series becomes a reverse harem.
* Though this series does not contain curse words, but rather a comical variation of them, it contains slow-burn romance that eventually leads to sex on the page with more than one man.
* Each book in the Six Shooter and a Shifter series is a full-length novel that ends on a cliffhanger. However, a happily-ever-after is guaranteed for the series finale.
Lucía Ashta believes in magic, laughter, and happily-ever-afters. She loves writing fierce heroines who wield witty comebacks as adeptly as their swords, and the warriors who slay their enemies alongside them. The camaraderie of found family, kooky magical creatures, and dragons—lots of dragons—also enrich Lucía’s many stories. She lives with her family in the forest nestled in the mountains, where she dreams up fantastical worlds and hopes to someday journey to them.
This is book four in the series, and as much as I love the town of Traitor’s Den and the quirky cast of characters, this book is a bit slow. Like the previous installment in the series, there’s a lot of talking, and it feels like the chapters are filled with conversation, rather than action. Regardless, I’m finishing the series with the next book, and I’m looking forward to the romance part of this why choose series picking up!
Everything is still running fast pace without time to fully stop and breathe in a happy moment. But these characters still had me laughing, grinning, clutching my imaginary pearls, and wide-eyed gasping!
Oh, and flustered...so flustered, I feel for Loa I have blue ovaries in sympathy. But also a little jealous because dang gal!

As this saga continues Loretta still has her men who want her but has added Tiger onto her fold. Did I mention Tiger was finally able to shift back to to his human form. Now she has Tiger, Zeke and Rhett wanting to love and protect her. Exciting story, hilariously funny, it’s like a great saga that just continues on and I love it. Waiting for the final installment
Story is getting a bit slow and annoying due to the endless back and forth between FMC and her guys and the Westernisms (is that a word?!). Any convo in the book becomes twice or thrice as long due to the language: happy Vs happy as a thick on a fat dog (or something equally ridiculous). And it doesn't really add plot at this point. So yeah, I'm starting to struggle with the series.
All right, I don't usually read westerns (actually never...and I was raised in Kansas and live in Oklahoma), but I 💖Lucia Ashta... so... I read all four books in the series that are out (the fourth book just released yesterday) - and maybe, like me, the wild west isn't your cup of whiskey, but Come On, it's a Fantasy Western - so ridiculously comedic in its uniqueness - you just have to! When in Rome, one must try the Gelato. When a reader, one must try everything.
As soon as I opened When the Moon Shines, I was sucked into the upside-down, wizard made, Monty Python and the Holy Grail-Esque, Traitor's Den - where Lucia Ashta merges stand-up comedy and fantasy with lethal doses of salty, western twang. Kind of like the late 1960s country variety show, Hee Haw, except the characters are mischief-making, magical beings, slightly intoxicated, and well on their way to steamy romance in a handbasket! This series is hot off the fire, pork cracklin' good!
Every time I think Lucia Ashta can’t possibly throw another mind blowing twist into this series she throws in two!! Wow. I love seeing how Loretta’s character continues to grow and evolve in all the facets of her life. She’s developing into a woman surrounded and accepting of all types of love from many sources, she’s grown into the leader the Denners and readers know her to be, and she has begun to consider whether she really wants to leave the home where she was born. In this penultimate book, the stakes have gotten higher once again on both the emotional and physical fronts and I cannot wait to see how Lucia Ashta wraps up Loretta’s unputdownable story.
I voluntarily review an ARC. This is the fourth part of the Six Shooter and a Shifter series, the books should be read in order. Another hilarious masterpiece by Lucía Ashta. I can't find the right words to describe the brilliant craziness, so I better leave the experience to the lucky readers who are smart enough to get their hands on this book. I really enjoyed that there was finally the action we all have waited for, if you catch my drift. Can't wait for the next part, cause I'm not a fan of the big cliffhanger, even if it might be a skyhanger in this case.

My love and enjoyment for this series grows with each new book, as it is even better that the last one, Lucía is a genius!!! 💕 The craziness continues, but we also have some well deserve romantic moments 🥰 The twists still blew my mind, it’s incredible how Lucía's mind works in this series, you really can't predict nothing and she keep surprising me at every turn, in the best way possible!!! 🤩 But also, that damn cliffhangers!!! 😭, they just make me eager for more and more of this crazy town I have come to love; can't wait to read the next book!!! ❤️
This town is totally cray cray and I love it! You just never know what’s going to happen next as we continue to follow our fiery cowgirl sheriff and her adventures! Just as you think it’s can’t get any crazier, well it literally does and you find yourself back on that rollercoaster of ups and downs and it’s one hell of a ride. This is a great town filled with magic, shifters, vampires, mages and other supernatural creatures, free flowing whiskey and some very weird and quirky things going on and a little romance ….finally and with those twists and turns I am so eager for the next book!
Just when you think there couldn't possibly be any more twists or any way to increase the cray-cray of Traitors Den, Lucia does exactly that. In book 4 we see Lo struggling to come to terms with the hawtness of her guys (including an unexpected new contender) while continuing to handle everything life throws at her with her usual hilarious commentary.
If you haven't already, you really should start reading this series, like now!!
Just when you think she can’t surprise you anymore…. There’s no way she’s going to be able to leave you’re head spinning like the last book in this crazy wolf west town…. What does she do!?!? Like I am going to ruin it but man I didn’t see that coming! And the hits keep coming. Loved the book! Loved the narration! Love the characters in this crazy little town! Can’t wait for the next one.
This series is all kinds of awesome! Firstly I have to appreciate how difficult it must be to write a book where everyone speaks 'cowboy' and come up with all the alternatives to swearing. Then the characters -such fun, complex and likeable people. I just can't wait to read the last book of the series and find out how everything works out for Loretta and her men as well as the other Denners.
I have really enjoyed this series and the world-building is amazing. Watching Loretta trying to handle a crazy town full of strong-willed magical people who, don't so much march their own drummer, as to their own band is hilarious.
Add in all the new additions to the town and the story, and you have a tale wilder than a bucking bronco. I can't wait to see where the next installment takes us.
We are back in Traders Den and everything is a little crazy like always in this western atmosphere. We see Lo trying to decide between what her feelings are with Zeke and Rhett who I really like them but then there is someone else, you got to read it. Can’t wait for the next book to see what happens….
Book four? Wow - this ride just gets more wild. Not sure how much stranger it can be - portal is closed for good, more jail cells being built and tons of hunky men wandering around. I have no idea how Lucia will wrap this up but I am belted in ready to ride.
These books are really strange and oddly fascinating. The author uses conversations to move the story and seems to wonder around a bit. Still going to finish the series.
