Harmony

Music is my happiest place and my darkest place. I come alive with it and I drown in it. Cut off and forced to fend for myself, I throw my soul into the rhythm of my own melody. What I didn’t expect was to find myself enraptured in the life of a rock star. His name is Asher, guitarist in one of the most famous bands in the world. Three weeks. That’s all I had before I was left bleeding out on the sidewalk—my heart in ruins beside me.

Asher

With a desperate plea from an old friend, I find myself walking through the doors of a hidden bar after returning from a month-long tour with my band, Chasing The Storm. What I didn’t expect was to hear the smoky, raw, and hauntingly beautiful voice that floated through the room. Finding myself lost in her harmony. Three weeks. That’s all I had before I became a walking corpse—a shell of the man I used to be.

Will they find the notes to their harmony or will it all crash and burn to ashes?

______my thoughts______
my very first rockstar romance and i was having the time of my life. it's a fast paced, well written and easy read. they have a bit of instalust but harmony + asher have amazing chemistry from the jump. i love them together! the smut is sexy. when they hurt, i did too. the attraction and pain between them was palpable. as much as harmony made me mad with her selfless choices, i do understand why she did the things she did. i'm also invested in the cast of side characters. everyone was so forgiving and supportive of each other, it's like a lil found family and i love that.

"𝐟𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐞." 🌩️

i'm being vague for a reason... i feel like you should go into this one not knowing much to get the full experience. i can't wait for you guys to read this too!

my cons:
•i would have liked more backstory of the friendships.

make sure you read the author's note at the beginning for tw⚠️

i feel like this book is gonna make its rounds, so i’m glad i jumped on it before the hype

tropes
- rockstar romance
-second chance
-messy and slightly toxic
-slight romantic suspense
-aesthetically pleasing new style kind of vibe

now i have some thoughts about this.

this book is what i call a new style vibe kinda book. the very vibey ones, aesthetically pleasing and messy and toxic and usually a hot enjoyable mess. this is like the perfect epitome of that

for a debut book, it was as pretty good. it definitely had its flaws in writing, weird plot jumps, insta lust/connection and alla that. not necessarily unenjoyable, but noticeable

now for what i didn’t like:
1. the writing was really hard to follow and i got hella
confused at some points
2. the incessant use of ! pissed me off
3. the fact that every single side character called her babe, baby or baby girl. like that’s a lil too close for me buddy, back up
4. the fact that a *gasp* huge *gasps in sarcasm* plot twist occurred and she had to make a reckless choice when she could have literally just called the cops

overall, i did enjoy it. it definitely had a lot of plotholes and it was a little boring at times but i enjoyed it and would probably recommend it if you are prepared for it (not emotionally just expecting certain things so they don’t disappoint you!)

harmony and asher’s story is finally live! this was such an incredible read. it’s a love story that’s deep, angsty, emotional, and oh, so stunning. it’s absolutely a must-read! 💜🎶

- rockstar romance
- second-chance love story
- spice galore (!!!)
- romantic suspense
- ⚠️ [please heed the TWs!]

music as been a part of harmony’s life for as long as she can remember. it’s been her sole companion, the one constant in her life, and as such, it became her only refuge when her life’s circumstances became irreversibly altered. but it’s also what leads her to her ruin. one that comes under the guise of salvation—a chance encounter with world-famous guitarist, asher. in a few short weeks, she becomes ensnared in the whirlwind that is his life, wholly enraptured by him, and the trajectory of her life is changed forever. but their love is on borrowed time, and when they’re torn apart, they’ll be left as two wreckages of one whole, their melody unfinished, unless they can find their way back to one another.

i don’t even know how i can begin to describe how much i love harmony and asher’s story. it’s deep, it’s gritty, and it’s hard-hitting. their story is one about two broken people trying to mend their jagged edges and become one. the attraction between them was palpable, their chemistry and instalust sizzling, and their shared pains—the demons that tethered them—were written so achingly, i felt them too. it was a thrilling read from start to finish, full of plot twists and turns, sumptuous writing, and bold characters. the plot was refreshing, the side-characters hilarious (please tell me ty’s getting a book!) and the spice insane.

*i think the pace of the first half felt rushed—but understandably so given the insta-infatuation aspect of the plot—and that characters grew close very quickly (i.e. the way harmony grew close to all the band mates and how they immediately called her babe/baby.) i do wish we had gotten more backstory on the side-characters, and learned how and why the bandmates had such a strong connection, but hopefully this will be explored in the rest of the series. but considering this is the author’s first book, the fact that these flaws are so minor is amazing!

all in all, it was so clear that C poured her heart and soul into this one. i had literal goosebumps the entire time i was reading it. harm and ash’s story was a lyrical tapestry; the romance a melody full of dulcet tones, peppered here and there with dissonant sharps and flats when the suspense and darkness came out to play. i’ve had the privilege of watching this book unfold from day one; witnessing the bare bones of their harmony at the very start, and seeing how far their story has come—how much it has evolved—fills me with so much pride. i loved every minute of it and if you pick it up, i’m sure you will, too. 🎶💜

Debut novel by C.L. Menegon.

This story is about two soul mates.

My Harmony. Why does it hurt so much for you? Your healing was Asher, but you decided to leave him. I was in so much pain.

Asher won me over from the first appearance. And his chemistry with Harmony initially gave wings to this story. The rhythm of their hearts is the same. And music is one of the medicines.

Beautiful lyrics of beautiful souls.

I'm sorry, but the end of this book made me shudder! What the hell, baby?! I wasn't ready for this. After that, I'm waiting for the continuation even more.

Because You Said is book one in the Up in Lights series and debut novel from my talented and gorgeous friend Courtney! And let me tell you, she knocked it out of the park with this one!

Court, I am so proud of what you accomplished with this story!

This story follows Asher and Harmony, two souls whose hearts matched each other's rhythm with a connection that was undeniable. When faced with a traumatic event, they must face the music and decide what would be best for all, even if they leave a destruction in their path.

"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒗𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒉𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒎 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒅𝒚."

I was absolutely hooked from the very first line and I could not put this story down at all! Harmony and Asher both had such incredible character growth and the banter was absolutely incredible! I fell in love with both characters and the love was so palpable, you could feel it through the pages. Both characters were so complex, but there was such an intensity to them that allowed them to give it their all even when they've been hurt.

Not to mention, the absolutely beautiful lyrical writing throughout the story! C, you have such a way with words and I loved all the lyrics you included! And that plot twist! I had theories of who I believed was causing all this damage, but I did not see that coming. I already miss Harmony and Asher, but I cannot wait to see what's to come next!

Because You Said book one (and debut) in the Up In Lights series by C.L. Menegon.

This is the perfect mix of a romantic suspense rockstar romance with some who hurt you vibes. THAT WE ALL KNOW THAT WE LOVE !! like come on now, you know i’m right.

This story is beautiful, amazing and lyrical (and so many more adjectives too), i loved everything about this book, between the plot, the characters, the character growth.

Coming back to the lyrical writing style it is just *chefs kiss* with also the lyrics throughout?! I DIED! Did i highlight all of them, why yes i did.

i did find that some times the characters would bleed together for me. Getting both POVs, there were times i would lose who’s head i was in and would need to wait until i could figure it out.

Overall, i love this story so much and i HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !! AND NOW I CANT WAIT FOR BOOK TWO!! EEEEEEP!!

SOME OF MY FAVORITE QUOTES —
1.) “Music is about sharing the realest, darkest, most brutal thoughts a person can have. It’s coated in beauty one minute and drenched in blood the next.”
2.) “Light needs darkness to survive and I can finally see the light from the ocean floor—it’s drawing me up.”
3.) “I stepped through the rain and swam through the blood. I clawed at the sand and escaped the vicious waves.”
4.) “We walked through the fire and burst through the flames in search of our light. And together, we found it. We can finally fly. Because you said.”
5.) “Fly with me.”

a beautiful love story between two passionate musicians. Harmony and Asher meet when Asher is asked to fill in for the guitarist in Harmony’s band for one night. they are immediately drawn to each other, and things become intense quite quickly. this is not a story without it’s heartache, however. both deal with trauma and a broken past, and Harmony finds herself having to make an incredibly heartbreaking and difficult decision. years down the line, Harmony and Asher are rising from the ashes and rebuilding their love and healing with each other.

it is so beautifully obvious that CL poured her entire heart and soul into this story. as someone who can never seem to satisfy her craving for rockstar romances, this one certainly was a great fix. Harmony and Asher find their love, their ruin, and their healing in music. it’s what they live and breathe. this is a beautiful story of two broken people finding their way back to each other, and it was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to witness.

at times this book felt quite fast paced but it never once took away from the story. Harmony and Asher’s love and connection was still so strong and undeniable. i loved their love, i love their music, and i loved their dedication to each other.

Courtney, you are incredible and your passion inspires me. i am so happy for you and cannot wait to see what you have to share with us next!💜

I’m a sucker for a rockstar romance, and this one hit the spot. It had everything I liked, cute bandmates that I want stories for every single one, especially Ty, he’s a babe. I felt like it was all tied together so well, the characters, the story, it didn’t feel forced at all and considering this is the authors first novel I’m impressed!

Harmony, what a soul. I loved her confidence at the beginning, she felt so free and owned herself and her craft. We then saw her go through a traumatic experience which stripped her completely back and her raw vulnerability made me so sad. Asher, him and that lip ring 🧎🏻‍♀️ I liked how matched their energy was together, definitely two halves of a whole! I also really appreciated how Asher was still so happy for her despite what happened, it’s nice to see a character with maturity.

The two bands gave me such a family feel which Is something I do love, the characters were so likeable and I want to know what happens next for them 💜

My 15 year old self would probably be obsessed, ...

TW alcohol addiction

My current self doesn't know why anyone would want to normalize alcohol consumption to this degree. All the characters in the book are alcoholics and it seems perfectly natural that bottles of vodka and whiskey are consumed on a daily basis. REALLY?
A slap in the face to everyone affected in any way by this issue.

Even apart from that, the book seems very young to me and not remotely dark, except that Asher sometimes handles her quite roughly. It doesn't even feel authentic.

Somehow I completely lack the depth, even if the author has made an effort to build it up, the book unfortunately gives me rather little.

Because You Said follows the story of Harmony and Asher who are two souls trying to find the beat to their melody. Their relationship is not only hot as hell but they tackle love, change, life and most of all music. ⁣

Harmony’s light is so prominent, waiting to grow brighter and brighter. Along comes Asher, guitarist of a world famous rock band. Through her love of music, zest for life and Ashers love how can she not shine? ⁣

Harmony oozes so much strength, courage and she’s the definition of selfless. She won’t let her past demons haunt her and with Ashers carefree, caring demeanour he won’t let her fail. ⁣

I love a book with dual perspectives and the way Court has written their stories show how raw, gritty, but filled with so much loved and respect they truly are. The way Court has played on lyrics throughout the book is so clever, so touching and just puts you in all the feels. You can feel the emotions Harmony is going through in her lyrics and they literally tear your heart out and leave your jaw on the ground. ⁣

Also just want to point out the scene in the bar later on.. had me in absolute tears, if that wasn’t perfection I don’t know what is, I literally was gasping for air through sobs. When a book makes me feel like that I just know it will be a favourite for years to come. IYKYK! 💜🎶 ⁣

It is hard to believe this is Courts debut novel, it is up there with the best of the best!!
Your hard work, dedication, love and HEART shines through this book brighter then ever. You’ve shocked me and I don’t think I’ll ever find the words to explain how incredible this book/you truly are. 🌟 Just like Harmony, you shine so bright and I can’t wait for the world to hear your words. Bring on book 2 of the ‘Up in Lights’ series. 🙌⁣

Don’t think twice, pick up this book. You won’t be disappointed. I promise 😉 Available on KU & paperback now! ⁣

so i'm not usually an insta-love fan but sometimes the connection between two MCs is just too good, and that's how it was with Asher and Harmony.

the story follows our FMC, Harmony who is a talented musician and singer, playing gigs with her band at a small bar. her friend sets them up with our MMC, Asher who is also a musician in a famous band. they're instantly attracted to one another and find that once-in-a-lifetime connection.
after a traumatic incident leaves Harmony in a position of potentially ruining Asher's career, she drops off the face of the earth, breaking Asher's heart, along with her own.
i'll leave the synopsis there because this is a book that's great to go into blind. please note there are TWs and you can find them in the first couple pages before you start reading.

overall, this book was super entertaining and easy to read; it started with a serious bang. like, holy sh*t, we got spicy within the first 40-something pages.
LICK IT, NOW IT'S YOURS.
EXCUSE ME WHILE I MELT. iykyk.
anyway, back to this. the story flowed well, i didn't want to put it down and there was a wicked twist at the end that i genuinely wasn't expecting.

i had a huge crush on both Harmony and Asher, they're SO HOT. like c'mon, Harmony's got money piece hair and tattooed arms, great style, she's super badass but sensitive plus she's talented with a smokey singers voice.
and Asher has green eyes and a lip ring, so that's an instant YES from me. he's possessive, caring, SO EXTREMELY SUPPORTIVE, and such a suck for Harmony. Asher kinda sets the standard for the i-will-kill-anyone-who-looks-at-her men. i love how dedicated he was to Harmony in every single situation and he never gave up on her.
and then the two of them together is a whirlwind of sweetness and adoration even though they just drip pure sex.

"fly with me."

i thought this was a phenomenal way for C.L to debut and i can't wait for her next release, whenever that may be. i will be waiting in the wings!

𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒌, 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈—𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚’𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈. 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒅𝒚.

‘𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 ‘ is C’s debut novel into the ‘up in lights’ series. It’s a rockstar romance with sprinkles of suspense. You are welcomed to the journey of Harmony & Asher. Two souls who were just meant to be together.

𝑺𝒉𝒆’𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓. 𝑨𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒌.

The story has so many aspects you get caught up in that you can’t help but attach yourself. Asher has such character growth & his heart is so pure when he lets you in that I hung in every word he said.

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒌𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕.

Harms is a broken soul who is just trying to find her way. I felt with her & hurt with her. I mean don’t get me wrong I was shouting in my head with some decisions she makes but I know she did it because she put everyone before herself.

“𝑰’𝒎 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆. 𝑰 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒊𝒓. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒎 𝒔𝒖𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈.”

I love the story, the journey, the unravelling, the music, the characters. I think the first thing I said was I need all of their stories 😂.

I want to shout out C, she’s my bestie & I’m so proud. So lucky I found you from all the way on the opposite side of the world 💜 I love you.

“You are the music in my veins, the rhythm to my melody."

WOW. WOW. WOW. WHAT A RIDE.
I came here for the musical vibes and it did not disappoint. 🎶🎶

A rockstar dark romance that reads easy, is fun at times, and yet very real and dark at other times. Im not gonna lie when I say for a debut novel, this was really well done. The pacing is my only hesitancy when it came to the writing. But otherwise, I was completely absorbed in Harmony's and Asher's story. Two people who are struggling with their own traumas and demons yet manage to find love and comfort within each other.

I relate to Harmony & her journey on many levels. Even though she takes things to a drastic level, I understand where she is coming from. Trauma manifests in ways we dont except and we deal with it as best as we can. So props to a STRONG female main character. 🙌🏻

I can't wait to read more of the series. The author is incredibly nice and interactive with her readers. I think this also adds to the experience of a story, at least it does for me. There are also some absolutely amazing quotes that are sprinkled throughout the book that just really get youuu. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 omg AND THE PLAYLIST?!? 10/10 , espc if youre a rock music fan like me. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸

If you want to feel pure raw emotion, have your heart physically hurting and tears streaming down your face majority of the book… this is book for you!

The emotion I felt in this book was un-matched, I honestly cried for 85% of this book. My eyes are sore and dry and I feel like I need to sleep this emotion off for a week! It was so fkn deep and beautiful, I loved every single second of it! To me there is nothing better than when a book is written so well you feel exactly what the characters are feeling and you almost feel like you are going through the events your self.

The plot twist at the end also had me so shook, I did not see if coming! I loved how dark and twisted the mind of a certain individual was, it sent shivers down my spine and made me actually so scared of him! It was amazing!

There were some moments in the book I felt were a bit cringy but definitely nothing too bad! Overall I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next!

“Fly with me, angel.”

Harmony and Asher’s story was beautiful, raw, emotional, and lyrically poetic. From that heartbreaking beginning to it’s gripping end, this book completely captivated me. I could not put down.

Their chemistry was passionate and intense from the very first moment they meant. Two broken souls with demons they are constantly battling. But through music is where they find solace. Together, their unfinished lyrics create one of the most beautiful songs.

This book had so much passion and soul. The way C.L. was able to string together words and tell a story, makes you forget that this is her debut novel.

What an amazing debut for this author. I am eager to read more from her.

P.s.
That plot twist had me saying out loud, “excuse me?” Hahaha.

Hi I'm obsessed with this fucking book. I actually can't deal with how much I love it. The beautiful girl Courtney wrote this and I'm just in awe of her. Her FIRST book btw like wut ? She's talented asf.

"I'm so sick of trying to please everyone. I just want to breathe clean air. Its always been thick and I'm suffocating"

That quote just really got me. It takes a lot for me to feel emotional reading but this book def got me multiple times. Harmonys feelings are just so raw and powerful and I felt so sad at times for her and wanted to help her. She is such a gorgeous character I absolutely love her. Asher.. Well. Clearly I'm obsessed with him I don't even need to explain why, you'll see when you read it 👀🥵.

The story itself kept me so gripped and wanting to know what happened next. The writing is beautiful and the words are deep. I don't want to say much to spoil anything but this has become one of my faves. It's a bonus that I love the author 😍.

I don’t typically find myself leaning towards “rockstar” novels for some reason; but, I have to say that this was an enjoyable read. I felt it was high on the dramatics and a tad on the light side for my personal tastes. I had some critiques here and there, but for a debut novel? This was a job well done! The ending was quite cute too; I actually really liked the dark edge the Epilogue had🖤!

“Fly with me, angel” 🤍🌩️🏹🕊️

Well this one is for sure going in the author’s wall of fame because it was that good. You could see how Court bled on the pages and she poured out her heart and soul into writing these characters. It just comes to show what a talented woman she is. Plus this was her debut novel.

This was my first ever rockstar romance and I am so happy it was you Court that took me over to this side of romance.

Harmony our Heroine is the very woman that I aspire to be. She is head strong, unbreakable, emotionally intelligent, fierce and a fucking smoke show. Every waking moment of her life is spent pouring her soul into her music with who she treasures most watching from above.

Our Hero Asher is a World Famous Rockstar who is possessive as fuck, gives off touch her and you die vibes and is also my new book boyfriend… sorry ladies he’s mine. In all seriousness the way in which he cared for those around him and especially Harmony just speaks volumes as to who he is as a person.

Together they were electrifying. The love between them was on full volume and their union was fate.

I’d definitely suggest going into this one blind. Just take a page out of any rockstars book and stage dive.

Why not 5 stars? Honestly I just wanted to see more backstory into the other characters because I’m nosy but I have a feeling I don’t need to worry… there’s definitely more to come.

So insanely proud of you Court and everything you have a achieved. You deserve everything good this world has to offer and your talent is remarkable.

Because You Said by C.L. Menegon

‼️MAKE SURE TO CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS‼️

This is Harmony and Asher’s story.

Harmony is a singer, and plays the keyboard. She has a steady gig at a dive bar in New York that she worked hard for, and is grateful to have. Her guitarist can’t make one of their shows, so he calls in a favor to a childhood friend, who happens to be in a famous rock band.

Asher has just gotten home after a tour leg in Europe, and just wants to relax, but when his childhood friend Kai calls in a favor, he steps up. Asher isn’t sure who, or what he’s even going to walk into at the show, but he never thought he’d find Harmony.

They have an instant connection during their set, and Asher asks her to go to LA with him for a show, she tells him, if he can find her, she’ll go. Asher asks Kai where she works and shows up, and tells her she’s coming to LA. She goes, and it only confirms what they’re feeling. She even connects with the other guys in Asher’s band.

When they get back to New York, they’re still inseparable, except when Harmony is at work. Asher has another show, but this time in Vegas, but Harmony doesn’t go, because she has her own gig. After Harmony’s show, something terrifying, and unimaginable happens to her. Her instinct is to run away from all she knows, in hopes she can save Asher, and her friends.

Harmony just disappears, and Asher is left wondering if she’s okay, or what happened to her. Years go by, and you see the difference paths their lives take, until one day it brings them back together….

There are so many amazing quotes in this book. This one in particular I really connected with. “I’ve been mistaken for weak, told I was nothing—but that’s where they’re wrong. I have a voice and it’s time for them to hear my melody.”

I can’t recommend this, and the rest of the books in this series enough. C.L. has created fmcs that feel like are prices of my soul.

“I want to feel alive again—I want to be free.”

Harmony’s solace and safe haven has always been music. When she doesn’t have a guitarist for a set she needs to do, Asher appears and both get twisted in a web of music and lust. Unfortunately, Harmony goes through something horrible, and to save Asher’s career, she leaves. But their story is far from over.

No matter how strong you are, how much fight you have embedded in your bones, trauma still destroys you. It’s a constant battleground.

This story continues to live in my heart. The trauma that Harmony goes through and how she deals with the aftermath is raw and gritty—it hurts my soul continuing to think about it. And her recovery? I was in tears!

I wouldn’t change a thing about what happened to me, what I endured, and the decisions I had to make.

I loved the band mates and secondary characters so much! They all became a family that I wanted to be a part of. I can’t wait to read more about them in the rest of the series.

Music is about sharing the realest, darkest, most brutal thoughts a person can have. It’s coated in beauty one minute and drenched in blood the next.

Asher and Harmony are two completely broken souls, and their story will break your heart, while also restore it. As a reader, you can tell that the author put so much emotion into her writing. My heart was gripped by this story from start to finish, and I can’t—won’t—forget about it.

- possessive mmc

🌿 BOOK REVIEW 🌿

Harmony and Asher—an allegro melody in the making.

“𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘢𝘺.”

Their journey can really only be described as a lively crescendo with a beautiful coda—and okay, yes, fine, I’ll stop with the musical puns.

I loved this book with my entire soul. Harmony’s musical ember, flickering, waiting to burn brighter. And that just so happens when she meets Asher, guitarist of a world-famous band.

It’s not every day you see your friend writing (publishing!) a book and have said book be f**king incredible. And honestly, I’m not just saying this. Knowing that this is C’s debut novel makes me so damn proud. May or may not have shed a few happy tears.

The first person dual perspective really adds to the entire reader’s experience as you truly get to see both our main characters’ dissonance (yeah, I’m not done) with their past demons. Their characterizations and the overall dynamic between Harms and Asher is musically carefree, realistic and raw and I love how C made them realize that they are inevitable. They were meant to meet, meant to create music together, and meant to be.

From an individual standpoint (concerning the main characters) I found it truly fascinating to see how Harms doesn’t back down, she’s incredibly resilient but remains to be kind no matter the hand Life dealt her. She doesn’t easily give up and I very much appreciated to read how dedicated she is to herself, her singing but also the way she protects those she loves. Even if it hurts herself.

Anyways— Because You Said will have you positively confused knowing it’s a debut novel. The story and plot are both captivatingly written with gripping and fascinating main characters. Written with dual perspectives makes the romantic scenes all the more sweeter because you get so see some of the action from both standpoints. Also, they were simply just hot as f**k. Would for sure recommend. Only reason for 4.5 stars is because we gotta keep her humble.

Music and Words

Two things I think that bring more people together than anything else. I love music as much as I love words and reading. They both tell a story. Asher and Harmony have had it tough in their young lives, and when their paths cross for the first time, there's instant attraction. Harmony believes it won't amount to anything. After all, things don't happen this fast, right?
Asher tracks her down, and this is how their love stroy begins. Because of their past, they do have some trust issues, so there are some ups and downs along the way. Things are great, until Asher and his band have to leave and play a gig, while Harmony is left behind because of her own. They had 3 weeks.
Something happens while Asher is away, and Harmony disappears, not letting anyone know where she went. They're both heartbroken, but Harmony truly believes she did what was best.
From here we see how this has effected both of them, Asher is truly broken and Harmony, whilst she's hurting too, she's doing everything she can to make sure what she did wasn't for nothing. Fast forward and thet see each other for the first time in a long time and there's no denying how they still feel about each other.
Circumstances have allowed them to travel together, and what we get from here are 2 people, so in love trying to manoeuvre through what happened. Asher knows there's something Harmony isn't telling him, and he's been hurt. It's up to her now to fix what she broke.
I really enjoyed this story. It was one of love and the sacrifices you make to protect those closest to you, that you would do anything for the person you love the most.
What happened to Harmony was horrible, and we had to question whether she really did the wrong thing by running. She didn't trust Asher enough to do the right thing? You also have to question whether it was right for her and for her own personal growth, did she need to go through it alone and get past her darkest days in order to come back into the lightband finally fly free?

Oh how I wish I could read this for the first time again. What an amazing debut!! Can this please be made into a movie 😂

What to expect:
- Rockstar romance
- Dual POV
- Suspense
- Dark, heavy topics
- Amazing spice
- Strong friendships
- Raw and emotional

Harmony’s life revolves around music, after all she’s been through in life it’s become her lifeline. Harmony performs regularly at a bar called The Rocks and one night her life begins to change after meeting world famous rockstar Asher. Their relationship is a whirlwind and starts to get deep fast, but tragically these two get thorn apart can they find their way back to each other before they ruin themselves?!?

My god did this book bring me on an emotional journey I could feel every emotion. My heart hurt so much for Harmony how she is still standing after everything she has been through just shows the incredible strength she has. This book brings you on a journey of music, love, pain, friendship, loss, fear, trauma and finding yourself.

There is so much trauma, suspense, plot twists, heartache, love, laughter and plenty of spice!!!!

I was so obsessed with not only the plot but every single character I loved the friendship between them all, like can each of them get a book please?!

There is a difference between boy obsessed and boy overly obsessed. This book right here showed Asher so obsessed with Harmony to the point where she was digging into his soul. She carved him in and out and no matter how much he hurt her or she hurt him, he was so deeply in love with her.

What I love about this book was how it showed the reality of complicated or well fast paced relationship. In this case Asher and Harmony met one another and had instantly fell into a sort of relationship. At the end or towards the middle of the book, Harmony broke Asher’s heart because of the pain she had endure and she kept quiet. I love this part deeply because I love how it displays victims keeping silent when going through something traumatic because they believe that one wouldn’t help or believe them. I relate with this one. Towards the end of the story, the couple begin to form a more stronger relationship and once the truth gets out they get closer together.

The pain that both of these characters went through and how they dealt with it was well written and amazing. My one complaint is the way the friendships went back together after 2 years, you would have expected some anger her and there. Other than that, I loved this read and would most definitely read more on tropes like this and recommend. 4.5. READ IT!

"I helped you spread your wings, but I didn't realize that in the process, you helped me find mine. You were the light I didn't know I was missing.”

Wow! Because You Said is a stunning debut novel by the beautiful @clmenegonauthor. It is full of highly charged emotions, suspense and dark themes, with lots of cute moments and a dusting of spice to cut through the heaviness..

Asher - Where do I begin? I don’t think I have ever been so flustered so quickly over a MMC. Tattoos, piercings, green eyes… and dimples? Hello? Were you made for me?
I couldn’t help but picture this possessive cinnamon roll as a 2013 era Andy Biersack (you know, the short honey-brown hair look?)

Harmony - Homegirl has been dealt a rough hand in life and she is out here just trying to do her best. Her strength really comes from her passion for music and the people she surrounds herself with.

This is a rockstar romance that really gave me everything I wanted - loveable characters, angst, humble beginnings, tour bus scenes, studio sessions and writing lyrics; all with a plot that kept me in suspense and was fairly fast-paced throughout. Oh! and that epilogue? Had me so teary-eyed.

While reading, you get a genuine sense of how much of CL Menegon’s heart and soul poured into crafting Harmony’s story.

I am excited to read more from this Author.
