The DI Barton Series by Ross Greenwood proved to be a gripping blend of police procedural precision and suspenseful mysteries. Across the series Mr. Greenwood crafts thrilling stories that are just as much about the crimes as they are about the people affected by them.
What sets this series apart is DI John Barton himself. He’s not the stereotypical hard-boiled detective - instead, he’s a grounded, empathetic, and relatable figure juggling the pressures of police work with the demands of family life. This balance gives the series warmth and authenticity that makes me care about the characters just as much as the cases.
The plots are cleverly constructed, often weaving multiple threads that converge in satisfying, sometimes surprising ways. Mr. Greenwood doesn’t shy away from exploring darker themes - murder, trauma, and moral ambiguity (to name a few) - but he handles them with sensitivity, avoiding overly gratuitous detail while still delivering all the tension and emotional impact you could want.
Each book can stand on its own, but reading them in sequential order rewards you with a richer understanding of DI Barton’s personal journey and the evolving dynamics within his team.
It’s a series that keeps you turning pages while also making you care which I think is a rare and satisfying combination.
Happy Reading…
