Rate this book
The small ant who created a BIG sales sensation is on the march again! Anthony Ant first became a children’s phenomenon in the early 1990s, when The Amazing Anthony Ant sold 120,000 copies in the U.S. alone. Now, Anthony’s back in a new, simple book full of fun clues, deceptive details, elaborate mazes, and entertaining rhymes. Children will find it irresistible.   Lorna and Graham Philpot have been a successful creative team for some 20 years. Graham's work is respected around the world, not just for his children’s book illustrations but also for his cartoons.

You'll certainly get your money's worth here. The story works on several levels. It's an adaptation of a familiar song; it's a math concept book (showing the numeral, the word, and a multiplication picture block); it's a "predictable book (Anthony stops every other page), it's a maze; it's an inter-active book (the reader get's to decide which of three verb and three noun combinations Anthony should do at each stop); and it's entertaining for the adult (identifying all the locations in Anthony's underground world).

This needs to be included in story kits and story times having to do with ants, of course, or math concepts, or picture books of familiar children's songs. If you're looking for a gift book consider this one.

Find Anthony Ant was a birthday gift for my son from his maternal grandmother. It is like the Where's Waldo books but aimed at a younger reading audience. The pictures while complex enough to be entertaining and interesting, are still simple enough for young children to find Anthony Ant relatively easily.

For slightly older readers, each illustration that stretches across the facing pages includes a maze. There are also other characters to find on each of these pages too.

My son has enjoyed the book so much that he has taken it to school to share with his friends during Circle Time.

My daughter loves this book. We began reading it to her when she was four. She had no problem using critical thinking skills to locate Anthony but she always excelled at those I Spy picture finding books. She reads it herself now and still enjoys it.

I love the book concept and the way it incorporates the Ants Go Marching song. However the way it's setup is very odd and confusing. Most of the time my little one has a hard time finding Anthony ant. And there's one page where I can't even find him. When we do find him, he's not exactly in the same position as they are asking about.

This is a fun book for the little ones. Each page has a picture of an ant warren, with lots of things to look at and recognise, from fruits to frogs.
Each ant warren is a maze, and my three-year-old loves tracing the mazes with his finger from the start to the end. There is also the job of finding Anthony in the maze, although this does prove to be a little trickier.
My friend bought this book for her son on my recommendation and he loves it also. This is more of a 'doing' book than a 'reading' book, but it certainly gets the kids looking at books.
8 out of 10.

My son was always frustrated when he couldn't find Anthony looking precisely like he did in the suggestion boxes. It caused much frustration and fixation. If I had it to do again, I wouldn't have brought this book home.
