My twin sister is the true queen of Aryd. She survives, hiding and clinging to life in the desert, while I reign as the false queen alongside the monstrous King Eidolon. There’s only one escape from this gilded prison: Reven. My Shadowraith. My heart. Only the shadows that he struggles to control are growing more sinister, more powerful.
It’s just a matter of time before they turn on him…and on me.
Even escape doesn't mean true freedom, though, when we're still on the run from Eidolon’s unstoppable armies. And when we discover there’s a traitor among us, I have no choice…I must become the queen I was never meant to be.
Because as one evil hunts me, the other loves me more than himself.

3.5 stars, a somewhat unpopular rating, I know…
I know it will seem like I complain a lot in this review, but I enjoyed this book overall, just not as much as the first book.
This book picks up right where the first one ends, with Meren, Cain, and Reven having saved Tabra from Eidolon’s clutches and being on the run now. Meren needs to take control of the situation quickly, and she needs to find a way to defeat Eidolon for good before he finds them and eradicates them, or before he can get Tabra back for his nefarious plans.
This was a good sequel, but some parts of the plot or some of the characters’ decisions still don’t make total sense to me. I will start with Eidolon. Where is he during this whole adventure? What is he doing while Meren is running around the realm and Reven parades around pretending to be him? With all his spies and powers, I cannot imagine that he has no idea what’s happening and what quest Meren and her group embarked on, or that he has no way of reaching them in another kingdom, so what is he waiting for?! Once again, the big bad guy that’s supposed to be a big looming threat didn’t make much of an impression on me. Sure he was there to thwart Meren’s plans every once in a while, but I was expecting him to be more of an active villain and to cause more trouble.
In line with this, Meren seemed surprised every time she encountered an obstacle, but she set off on a mission to visit the other kings and queens of the realm with a half-baked plan to get some relics from them while staying hidden from Eidolon, and she wonders why it didn’t work perfectly? She didn’t stop to think about alliances that might exist between Eidolon and the other monarchs, or the fact that he was still in Aryd, spreading rumors about her and her disappearance while she was just strolling around with his body double (aka Raven). The half-baked plan could be excused by the fact that she was desperate and didn’t have any other choice, but the fact that she was surprised by every twist or obstacle just made her seem stupid at times.
Now, let’s talk about the romance… There is a wannabe love triangle, but it was never really believable because it was clear from the start who Meren loved. This subplot was brought in a good way though so I am not mad. We all knew that Meren was in love with Reven, but with her need for support and resource, a potential political alliance that would give her manpower and resource was brought up, and it was a logical solution to her problem. Did Meren seriously consider it? Of course not, and magically the whole romance/mate-bond plot made it so she didn’t even need this marriage in the end, which was very convenient for her, but also made the whole “love triangle” feel even more useless (by the way, I don’t even understand why the word “mate” was used when it’s never been brought up before?).
The characters were okay, but not impressive to be honest. Reven was even moodier than in the first book, and while I understand that he was trying to protect Meren and her group by staying away, the stilted conversations and grunting made him appear like he had the expressive and emotional capacity of a tablespoon at times. I am not saying that he didn’t feel anything, because he loves Meren, but I was not a fan of his darker/moodier persona in this book.
Tabra was also a disappointment. After not seeing her at all in the first book (even though it would have been interesting to have some chapters in her POV), she was a useless accessory in this book too. She followed around or was dragged around, but she never did anything useful or even contributed ideas. She was just passive and honestly, she could have died in the first book or remained Eidolon’s prisoner for all the difference it made in this book.
Even Meren seemed to lose her newly gained confidence and badassness in this book. She seemed to rely on Reven for her happiness way too much, and she was constantly doubting herself and she gave off a big insecure vibe.
On a more positive note, the world-building continues to be a strength of this series, and the author has a way to write beautiful and vivid descriptions. I would still recommend this series to fantasy and YA lovers, but I do hope that the next book will wrap things up nicely without any useless romantic drama (I don’t mind romantic drama, as long as it is well developed and serves a purpose) and that the plot will be a little more thought through.
I only requested because of the pretty cover, and when I got accepted I realised it was the second book in a trilogy! So I had to read the first book, and I really loved it, so now I’m extra happy I got this arc 🤭

just a teeny bit under my expectations but still super enjoyable!!
Meren is as delightful as ever, and the world building + writing is stunning as usual, I’m SO excited for the next one 💓
“We all are, each and every one of us, worth the effort, no matter the risk.”
It only took for me to reach the end of The Stolen Throne to realize that this was not in fact a duology, but a trilogy instead. Well, don't I feel like a fool - but, in a good way, because then I appreciated how much effort Abigail Owen put into the second installment more.
Picking up right where the story left off, we're swept away into Meren's world as she tries to navigate her way out of an ill-fated marriage with the immortal and sinister lord, Eidolon, rescue Reven from the shadows of darkness that threaten to overwhelm him, save her ailing twin sister, Tabra from a disease that weakens her at every moment, all the while setting out on a quest to track down the hidden amulets that consist of the goddess' powers that serve as the magical sustenance to the many kingdoms of their magical realm.
A lot to keep track off, right? Yet, Abigail Owen pulled it off quite well - despite, the relatively larger length of the story compared to the first part, the story flowed. The pacing held up - the constant shift between Meren's different settings was balanced off nicely with her interactions with all the different characters. There was also a significant amount of time dedicated to the world - building well, not so much as the world-building, but providing necessary insight into the history of the world Meren found herself in. ⚔️ Why powers acted the way that they did - what were the secrets that were not revealed to past queens - what was their connection to Eidolon, himself. Those little reveals were worth reading about and their relevance to Meren's journey and many vital choices she had to make made for an interesting read.
“Reven is my everything, and I never told him that. Instead, I told him I hated the way he protected me.”
My one major complaint would have to be the romance - countless times, Meren reminds herself and consequently, the readers, that she loves Reven - he is her everything. Yet, for the majority of the story - they did not really interact with one another. Granted, he was staying away from her to 'protect her' and while that is very chivalrous of him, this part was lacking that spark of their constant quips and sharp and snarky retorts that defined their relationship from the first part. 😢
Not to mention, that was one of the major points of what made their bond so special - and so when they did finally get to interact and progress their relationship even further, it just felt so lackluster - lacking that bite that made Meren's attraction to him so special. Yes, their few and limited kisses were scorching hot and their moments of hidden passion radiated desire, but it just felt so off-kilter - or maybe, it's just me. 😔 And I also felt robbed of Reven's POV - we got one prologue with his point of view, and then, zilch! 😭😭 I was hopeful that it would have been dual POV because it could have given a little more depth to his character, but, alas, such was not the case.
“His belief in me is like nothing I’ve ever known. It’s the only thing making me keep going some days. And I trust him completely. Utterly. Not the Shadows…Reven. I would follow him into the hells and back.
We are stronger together. Because we both need each other for the kind of faith in ourselves that we can’t find anywhere else.
I’m sure.”
I especially appreciated that we got more insight into Eidolon and who he is - what his connection is with Reven and how he aims to control him for his own benefit - what his modus operandi is and what Meren will have to do to break his hold over her. He became more of a tangible villain - one with purpose and malicious intent that was still shrouded with a mysterious air that showed that there may be something else lurking beneath his veneer of evil. 🥺🥺
Again, the supporting cast was one of the strongest aspects of the story - I loved seeing them all interact with one another - how their personalities developed even more - how we got a bit more insight into their past lives and how each of them played an integral part in aiding Meren in her path to the throne. Cain and Vox, especially, won my heart - Cain, mostly, because as Meren's first love - his stout determination to win her heart again, while also staying steadfastly loyal to her was lovely to see - if not, also making me fearful of what future awaits him in the final run. 💔💔
There were certain deaths that hurt and betrayals that stung, but everything panned out so very well that I didn't mind it in the slightest. And yes, again, the cover is stunningly gorgeous - it is definitely one of the reasons that drew me to this fantasy series. And with the story ending on another scintillating cliffhanger it still intrigues me enough to return to this fascinating world to read it's final and hopefully most satisfying conclusion. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I thoroughly enjoyed the follow up to The Liar's Crown - it picks up right where it left off, Meren and Reven are racing against the clock to stop Eiodolon from continuing his plans to take over Aryd as well as the other dominions.
I loved seeing other parts of the world and the characters dynamics change and grow throughout Meren's journey.
It's not quite a 5 star read for me due to some minor things, but if you are a fantasy romance lover, this is the book for you. Also it rides that line between new adult and young adult!
This was fantastic! I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t remember enough from the first book but I found it really easy to slip back into this fantastic world. I thought that the author did a wonderful job of reminding the reader of important events from the first book at key points in the story. Meren, Reven, Cain, and the rest of the group have their work cut out for them. Eidolon seems always to be one step ahead of them but I have faith that they will figure out how to defeat him.
I found this story to be incredibly exciting with enough action to keep the story moving. There were times when things looked really bleak for Meren and the rest of the key characters and I have to admit that I was worried for them more than once. I loved the fact that there were some pretty big surprises worked into this installment which helped to keep me glued to the pages. The world-building in this series continues to be top-notch!
I would definitely recommend this book to fans of YA fantasy. This book was exciting, with great characters, fantastic world-building, and just enough romance to keep things interesting. I am very eager to get my hands on the next book to see what happens next!
I received a review copy of this book from Entangled: Teen.

So. Much. Loss. Watching Meren pine after Reven the whole book and him being too afraid of hurting her to be with her is so painful. I know it's just to build suspense but my heart is aching lol The cliffhanger is devastating, so prepare your tissues and make sure you have book 3 in the immediate vicinity 😭
Thank you so much, Entangled Teen and NetGalley, for the digital review copy.
This book was pure gold and yet emotionally charged at the same time! (I was bawling so hard reading the last few chapters.)
Despite some people's qualms and concerns over the second book not being nearly as strong as the first, honestly I thought Stolen Throne was better than Liar's Crown in a lot of ways especially since there was so much more to it: more plot twists, more action backed on-the-edge-of-your-seat scenes, more history of the different dominions and the intricacies of the magic system and more monsters! We finally got to meet the fearsome Devourers that wander the seas surrounding the different dominions but trapped by the different protections from glass walls surrounding Aryd to the deadly whirlpool at the edge of Marianna. and once again, not all is as it seems! (I especially enjoyed the twist with the Devourers being actually the "heartmates" or consorts of the goddesses who became evil and corrupted, turning to monsters due to their greed for more power!) Stolen Throne was just a lot more darker and sexier than Liar's Crown, and I was eating it up!
We continue from where we left off in the first book with Reven healing from his ordeal with the evil King of Tyndra, Eidolon, after having stabbed himself thinking it will get rid of Eidolon but alas this does not happen...He and his Vanished from the Shadowood are traveling with Cain's (Meren's best friend) zariphate--a wandering nomadic, desert tribe from the dominion of Aryd. Cain and Reven manage to rescue Meren from Eidolon's clutches in the palace and much of the first half of the book is spent on the move searching for these mysterious amulets that apparently trapped the 6 goddesses of each dominion before Eidolon can get his hands on them.
“You’re mine, Mereneith Evangeline. Written in the stars to be mine.” I know a lot of people had qualms over Meren and Reven's relationship throughout the book and the fact that they spent 70 per cent of the book apart, but I loved them just as much as I did in book one, if not more. I became so emotionally invested in their story and was rooting for their happiness that there were moments when my heart just broke for them. They're a couple that shouldn't work but they're beyond compatible and their love for each other is just so beautiful and pure. They’re both people with huge responsibilities and burdens carrying the world on their shoulders but that’s just a part of what makes them compatible. They understand each other and don’t try to hold each other back. Despite disliking Meren’s decisions, Reven never once tells her no or discourages her from doing the right thing even if the right thing is incredibly dangerous and reckless and I was living for that. Unlike Cain who seemed to always be holding her back…Reven and Meren deeply love each other and I was so sad to see them suffer so much and face so many obstacles after such brief periods of happiness...
After the sizzling romance and chemistry they had in the first book, in Stolen Throne they are pretty much away from each other because of Reven's fierce and misguided notion to protect her from his shadows supposedly...However, towards the end of the book, Reven decides he can't be away from her as he's a wreck not just mentally but physically because of the shadows inside him clawing at him. He basically spirals out of control every time they're separated which makes him come to the conclusion that she is the one to quite the shadows which also didn't make a whole lot of sense because was it not initially because of her that the shadows became restless? They have this lovely, passionate, hot and sexy scene when Reven asks her to be bondmates and they make love again. There was a thrilling and shocking twist where they discover that they were actually bonded in a past life!! I am interested to find out more in the final and third book regarding this and hope this is something that will be further explored.
Everything towards the last part of the book got super intense with the action and the violence and we were left with this AWFUL, super angsty cliffhanger which left me crying while reading that it took me several tries before I could finish the last few pages. Reven basically "sacrifices" himself to King Eidolon who takes him but he "gifts" Meren his shadows believing she's strong enough to take them and handle them.
"Find me in the afterlife, princess."
I was destroyed reading that and honestly, I am a bit worried of how Reven and Meren's story is going to finish in the last book. I just hope the knowing each other and being bonded in a past life doesn't foreshadow that they're both going to die and be reincarnated so they have to start all over again but since there's only one more 500-page book left, somehow I doubt this is a possibility. I also hope King Eidolon doesn't become good or anything with Reven inside him. I just want Reven and Meren as they are themselves to have their much deserved happy ending. And Reven…self-sacrificing wonderful man that he is. I just want a happily ever after for him so bad my heart hurts.
Overall, I loved all the side characters in this book. Pella (Cain's younger sister), who hated Meren from the first book became such a fierce, strong character and I love how she defends Meren despite it going against her very character. Cain, even though he was annoying at first with refusing to accept that Meren loved Reven and he was too late, comes to grow on me especially towards the end when he's the one to force her to save her people and friends so they can help her go after Reven. I loved that! I enjoyed in particular the history and descriptions of the different dominions from the sizzling deserts of Aryd to the lush, tropical forests of Tropikis to the glittering icy land of Tyndra and the deadly beaches of Marianna where another Devourer lurks. Also, Meren taming and befriending a Devourer was probably the most gutsy, badass part of the book!
The second book, like the first, is told much from Meren's point of view although at the beginning, there is one scene from Reven's perspective. I hope now that Reven is trapped inside Eidolon again means we get scenes from his point of view in the final book!
This second book and overall series was thrilling! Probably the best series I've read in a while and one that has left itself a permanent tattoo on my heart.
Tw: mildly explicit sexual content, violence, blood.

"You're mine, Mereneith Evangeline.Written in the stars to be mine"
The second book in the Dominions series thankfully doesn't suffer the dreaded second book syndrome, while it's a teeny bit different than my expectations after the smashing first book, I still think the book delivered overall. The world building is just as beautiful as it was in the first book, in fact more expansive in this one with introduction of new characters and layering with more tales from Dominions past. This probably was my favorite part in the book, it felt like reading a story within the story and I love how it was connected to the current events
The plot picks up right where it was left off and launches into rescuing Meren from you know who's place, it led to interesting tension between Cain and Reven which was funny. The stakes are even higher in this book and there is no time to waste, the plot involves a lot of traveling which was super fun to read with all the lush details Abigail Owen had penned down. The plot is packed with some revelations, fierce action and some twists that I really enjoyed and in the usual fashion of the first book ,this one also ends on a high note that had me immediately look up the release date of third book lol
That being said, the reason why I said it fell a little below my expectations is because character development and the romance factor, I absolutely loved the little found family trope going on and Pella had grown on me so much that I really enjoyed her's and Hakkan's hint of a side plot. However, I really felt Tabra's character was underwhelming as she barely has anything to do, and Reven's character development was all over the place as he felt considerably different from how he was in book 1 which to be honest was a disappointment because I felt like Cain outshined him a tad bit through out. The dragged out push and pull between Reven and Meren did not help either, after having a sizzling chemistry in book 1, they barely have time together until 70% mark and then it changes so abruptly that I had hard time enjoying the romance sequence
Overall, I enjoyed the sequel and definitely looking to the finale. Thanks to the publisher for my digital ARC
This is book 2 in the Dominions YA fantasy trilogy.
Synopsis: Book 2 picks up with Meren captured by Eidolon(evil shadow king) and Reven (controlled by the shadows) trying to rescue her. They go on the run trying to find freedom on an epic adventure!
I love this series! I may even like this one better than the first which I rarely say. This book has more adventure and character development than The Liar’s Crown. It sucks you right it and you won’t be able to put it down! Abigail Owen has a way of keeping you on the edge of your seat in a spell binding fantasy world filled with all the tropes you could want. I can’t wait for the next book from her!
Thank you Entangled Teen for the ARC! 💜👑 If you are a fantasy lover and have not discovered Entangled Publishing, their books are always so good.
I loved the first book in the series. It was fun had some great twists and kept me entertained.
Sigh......
Going into this one I enjoyed the beginning! I really like some of the more magical and world building aspects of the story as well as how all the little secrets start to come out one by one to build a bigger picture. I enjoyed the ansty romance and the fun secondary characters.
However, as I kept reading I kept feeling SO confused. I am someone who loves intricate plots and world building/magic systems....however this just felt overly convoluted and I kept having to go back to see if I missed something. I think the author was trying to kept the mystery going but she kept me as a reader in the dark for too long. It felt for me there were a lot of inconsistencies pertaining to the magic system/portals/etc and there were a lot of different cities, names, places and it personally got overwhelming for me and lost its flow.
I also got frustrated with the romance. There is this really cool bond aspect from the first book. I still like Reven, but the romance kept going back and forth in not an enticing way...I still don't know if its possible for them to be together or if its dangerous or what the heck is going on. I wish she would have established some stronger ground on this front.
Despite my critiques and not loving it as much as I did the first book, I do still want to read book three and hold out hope for things to turn around and be brought to a better light! I think this is a unique series with a lot of good things going for it!
**NEW ADULT CONTENT: light strong language, one open door scene but not too long, easy to skip
I loved Book 1 so much. The twists and turns were completely fresh and it felt fresh.
This book was good but also meandered a bit in the middle. We really leaned into a love triangle where one arm clearly had no chance and knew it but we kept circling back. I wish very much that Reven had not pulled back so much and that this book wasn't so hard for him.
I thought the last hour or so of the audiobook was excellent. Action packed and progress was made in leaps in the plot. It wasn't quite enough to drag me back up to the enthusiasm I had for book 1 but that's the nature of the second book in a series sometimes. I know Abigail Owen is capable of excellent endings and I trust her to end this one strong.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.
I am an avid fan of Abigail Owen’s and will read anything she writes! That being said, The Stolen Throne, Book 2 in the Dominion series, is even better than The Liar’s Crown. Each book has grown in depth and detail, from the world building to the characters growth. There is no shortage of action and danger.
I am a huge fan of book covers. Once I read that someone saw a lobster on the pretty cover of The Stolen Throne, I couldn’t stop looking at it. Check it out for yourself. Great cover, Elizabeth Turner Stokes. And, I love maps. Kellerica did a great job on the maps of Nova.
I read a lot of teen and young adult novels. Many times I cannot give them a five star rating, through no fault of the author or the story. It’s just not deep enough, engrossing enough, sexy enough, violent enough…well, you get the drift.
The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen is an exception to my normal. The book was long, so I couldn’t finish it in one sitting, but I would have if my eyes didn’t start to cross, blurring the words. I was so engrossed in the details, wandering the worlds with Meren and her unlikely group of heroes, traveling through portals to places I never would have dreamed of on my own. I feel their pain, their struggles, their love, their loyalty…to the twin of the Queen, who was meant to be disposable.
I have a people to protect. I have a bondmate to save. I have a king to destroy.
We have moments to smile, even laugh. Moments to drown our sorrows in those lost. Moments of hope and inspiration, like Abigail Owen’s inspiration for this novel, which starts with an obscure Hans Christian Anderson fairytale about a man who shed his shadow, and when the shadow turned real, he took over the man’s life. She found her villain and her hero. I love when one character can fit both roles. It makes for a more interesting character.
I loved everything about The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen.
I can hardly wait for The Shadows Rule, Book 3, due for publication in January 2024.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of The Stolen Throne by Abigail Owen.
In the second book of the Dominions series, the stakes are higher, the danger has increased and it's more important than ever to know who your enemies and your allies are. This YA fantasy has everything the reader needs in a sequel - action, adventure, danger and romance. Meren is now married to Eidolon and must pretend to be under the king's charm, all the while rebellion bubbles in her veins. Reven and Cain are determined to rescue Meren, but with the threat of being caught and Reven dealing with the shadows that are growing more frantic by the second, their rescue mission takes an unexpected turn. I will keep it spoiler free, but buckle your seatbelt and get ready for a wild ride.
Sometimes a sequel doesn't always live up to expectations, but this is not the case with The Stolen Throne. There are plot twists and reveals, pieces falling into place and characters that embrace their new situations and use them to their advantage. The entire story builds towards an epic ending that will have you wanting the third book immediately. I can't wait for the third book since this ending had my mind running in different directions. Once again, the world-building was done well and the hint to a love triangle surfaced. I loved Reven since the first book and in the second book, I loved him even more. The majority of the story is told from Meren's POV and we get to see more internal battles as well as difficult choices she needs to make. The mood of the story is tense, emotional and adventurous, at times I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happens next.
This series is perfect for fans of fantasy and readers who like a fearless FMC and a morally grey character with shadows ;)
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for gifting me an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
Before we get into The Stolen Throne, I want to remind everyone that I gave The Liar's Crown five shiny stars LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. It's one of my top five favorite fantasy books of all time, and I had equally high hopes for this sequel. BIG MISTAKE. I bring this up because I'm going to sound undeniably ranty, and I want to establish that I have nothing against the author or the series. I enjoyed this book, but the "she is mine" and "you're my mate" subplot had me scratching my head going, huh? Let me explain.
Here’s the short version: The Stolen Throne is like The Liar's Crown on steroids. If you thought Reven was moody before, you're in for a treat. He could rival a gargoyle with his emotional capacity. Tabra's change is even worse. Owens rolled with the 'damsel in distress' trope, making Tabra feeble and immobile for most of the book. And then there's Meren, the spare sister who went from a badass princess to an insecure, stand-in queen. She grew to depend on Reven for happiness, which is SO TOXIC. You know the saying, 'A hero would sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you?' Yeah, that about sums up the plot of this story. Just, not in a good way.
I know a lot of readers had issues with Meren and Reven's romance in the first book (Stockholm syndrome is a problem), but I liked them together. Before you come at me with pitchforks, let me explain. Reven kidnapped her, BUT he gave her the option to leave later in the story. He didn't pressure Meren to use her power, and he was willing to sacrifice the future of his kingdom for her happiness. Also, Meren only realized she liked him once she was in a safe place. It sounds like a fairy tale we grew up hearing, right? (I'm looking at you, Beauty and the Beast).
But in The Stolen Throne, Abigail Owens writes in these weird, unnecessary complications. Reven and Meren basically ignore each other for the first 74% of the book. The angst got tiring, but what really bothered me was that Reven spirals out of control whenever they separate. If you think it sounds possessive or manipulative, you're right. As if that wasn't enough, there were creepy binding rituals and phrases like "you're my mate" that took the relationship to an "alpha" level. I know some readers find the werewolf mate thing attractive (and if you're one of those fans, I won't judge), but I thought that craze ended years ago. Apparently, we aren't that lucky.
The sex. God, it pains me to say this. Until now, I've been relatively impressed with how Owens writes intimacy. But all that flew out the window with this book. I'm still not entirely sure what happened in the sex scene. I think shadows were doing some of the motions? I just...ugh.
It sounds like I hate this book. I truly don't. I love the intricate world-building, diverse characters, and intriguing story concepts. The idea of a man shedding his shadows to stay immortal and take over the world is refreshing. You can't go wrong with a story like that! (Actually, you can, but I stand by my earlier statement that Abigail Owens did a phenomenal job on the first book).
Did I love Meren's humor and dedication to her friends? Yes. Was I drooling over the author's pretty descriptions of sizzling deserts, glittering ice plains, soaring cliffs, and vibrant tropical forests? Also yes. Did I stay up later than I should have to finish the story? Guilty as charged. I just wish the character relationships matched the quality of the rest of the story. 4-stars.
I received an eARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
OMG ha sido incluso más adictivo que el primero <3 El drama romántico me está frustrando un poquito, pero la trama, la acción y la magia me tienen loquis!
A lot of the time the second book in a series will suffer with middle book syndrome, the author using it as a filler novel, but THAT WAS NOT THE CASE HERE!!! There was so much action, politics, romance, and betrayal that there were times I had to stop reading because there was so much going on I needed to pause to comprehend. This one is less romance based than the first (a lot more action and planning), but I think that it was better. If you liked the first one or even thought it was just ok, please give this one a chance!
Did I forget nearly everything from the first book? Yes. Did I reread the first book to get reacquainted before starting book 2? No of course not, I was far too excited to find out what happens next, because I did remember loving the first book and that I needed to read this ASAP. As I moved through this book the bits and pieces from The Liar's Crown began to come back to me. The Stolen Throne introduces a lot more treachery, mystery, adventure, intrigue and adorable animals. To say it had me enthralled would be an understatement. Abigail Owen has talent and I am here for it; can't wait for The Shadows Rule All to come out because she left me with sooo many questions at the end of this one! Much love to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for my ARC.
Wow! So much happened in this second book that once it got started, I was enthralled. This whole storyline is very creative and the action is exciting. The characters are unique and you can't help but fall in love with all of them. I can not wait for the final book because I just need to know what happens next. I highly recommend this series and definitely start with book one.
I was sent a early copy from entangled publishings on Netgalley
Minimal Spoilers ahead!
I dont know where to begin. This book was so fullfilling! You start right where the first book leaves off. Reven and cain go rescue meren and the journey of a lifetime begins. Amulets must be found to take Eidolon down. We meet my favorite character Bene a scarey monster with the biggest heart and is just trying to release his love. There were many battles to be fought till the final battle where the most unspeakable things happen….. i wont give to much away. This book has you on the edge the entire time. I loved learning the most about the dominion and how it became. How the godesses created everything.
Please go read it’s absolutely amazing!

WOW! What a story! What a rollercoaster of brutal, intense emotions. The unbelievably gripping and exciting writing style makes this book, this series, a very addictive and captivating story.
I love how the author tells the story. It's like reading a dark fairy tale. A story that is complicated, dramatic, and heartbreaking, but also so damn interesting and fascinating, you just can't stop reading it.
This is the kind of book that gives you a sleepless night, and it doesn't matter because it's so good, you don't regret a second of it, even if you look like a zombie 🧟♀️ the next day.
I love the unbelievably gripping, dramatic, unpredictable dark story. The main characters are not without flaws, but still perfect. This fascinating story is like a raging river that only allows them seconds together before separating them again, but still, in their minds, they are inseparable. They're not only soulmates, they're one.
I'm so glad this series has another book. Because I need more of it. I can already see a reading slump coming my way 😬 😂
“You have to keep fighting until it’s over. That’s your fate. And I will burn down the world if I have to, just to keep you safe while you do it. That’s mine.”
-> 4 stars
second books in series often suffer from what i like to call "second book syndrome" (very creative, i know.) so, i was hesitant to pick this up and be super disappointed. now, if anything, i'm sad i picked it up so soon before the 3rd books release. the fantasy world is just really well done, and the romance was actually believable, and had great chemistry. (i've been scarred of late, ok?) i can't wait for the third books'The Shadows Rule All release in July!
4.5/5 Great romantasy. Interesting magic, more about the characters. The narration is interesting. The world is different and the story is action packed. It keeps you wanting more and there is so much diversity in the plot line it's interesting and keeps you guessing. I am absolutely loving my reread of this series in preparation for the last book!
4.75/5 stars! This is the second book in the Dominions series by Abigail Owen. I loved the first book, so I was really excited to read this sequel. Owen does it again with this amazing YA fantasy novel. This is the kind of epic fantasy journey that fans of Danielle Jensen would adore. I couldn't get enough of Reven and Meren. I cannot wait until the next book.
