Sometimes life gives you choices. Therapy or a unaliving spree. Therapy was way too expensive.

I didn’t chose the life, the life was thrust at me. I guess this is me making lemonade from the rotting lemons handed to me.

Someone found me and instead of adding him to my list I’ve added him to my bed. OR rather he’s added me to his - his list and his bed. And the scary thing is? I crave him like I crave my next victim.

You can’t fix me and strangely my mystery guy isn’t trying to. No, he’s along for my rollercoaster and the verdicts out on why.

Vengeance has always been the game I won. But my luck is running out. I might have accidentally, not accidentally, unalived the wrong guy. He was still bad, but he might have been the son of the mob. Oops.

The good news? I have a stalker, and I think maybe I want to keep him.

Interesting

Trigger warnings all over the place but not as bad as you'd expect. Warnings for mentions of torture, r*pe, threats of both, gore, human trafficking, and just threats in general. Most of the kill scenes are fade to black, the mentions are just that, because while r*pe is mentioned it's not something that happened to her or during the book. She goes after those who have been accused but got away with it. So, like I said, no Lt as bad as you'd think for it being a darker book.

Halle/Rainbow had a score to settle with men who've hurt others and not seen justice served. So, she and her knives ensure that justice...of a sort...happens. Oddly, the police aren't thanking her. But she has attracted the attention of a crime family. Seems the son was a bad boy and when he hired her to kill someone she decided he deserved it more. And that's how this very stunning killer walked in on her kill scene and dubbed her Rainbow. He also decided to keep her. Well, he'll see how well that works out when the knives turn on him.

Spoilers ahead.
This was oddly charming while a bit macabre. Two killers dancing around each other, as both are emotionally stunted. We learn only the basics about each of them. He was manipulated by his family to be an enforcer and a measure to keep others in line. She was in foster care/state homes. We don't know how she landed there other than apparently she had no family, or any that claimed her, or was allowed to claim her. It's all very vague. The world building used only sets up the fact that they exist and their careers. The plot is a simple: he's supposed to kill her but can't. The characters do develop- in their own ways. This is not a cuddly romance. The only thing cuddled is her bearded dragon, Richard. But this was darkly humorous. Their ideas of "dates" would send most people screaming. And his presents to her usually involve a cleaning crew and body disposal. But it works for them.

Who Hurt You

WOW - i have to laugh just a little bit at how twisted Halle is. Because to anyone but herself, and maybe Parks, it would be terrifying! She is an expert killer for hire and goes, vigilante style, killing men who have wronged women. We really don’t know her back story yet - her reason why she is on this crusade. She’s on a job when Parks shows up to actually take her out, but watches her work and becomes intrigued by her! See she killed a member of the wrong family, and they hired Parks to kill her — but now both killers have fallen for each other and all bets are off! Gives a very Mr. & Mrs. Smith vibe and I totally loved it! That ending though killed me and now I need the next book like right now!! Brilliant!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I got this on 'stuff your kindle' day and surprisingly, it has been one of my better reads from that day.

I wanted something quick and dark which it was. However, it didn't feel like a fast read/pace even though it's a 'novella'. It was also smutty but honestly... the smut was just... *shrug* smut. But they had so much tension and their banters made me giggle. But eventually, I got bored towards the end. It just felt to me like the author was repeating scenes- kind of a 'cat and mouse' idea... it just felt overused and I just feel "meh" about it.

And although,

Anyways, Halle and Parks are two twisted individuals who are sick but I loved it. They made me laugh and the way how they were both pathetic and obsessed with one another had me giggling more.

Also, some of the paragraphs needed some serious help... to the point where I had to reread the sentence to understand what was happening. I can't complain though, because it feels like that's how my brain works 💀

Also it ends on a cliffhanger ! We'll see if I continue the series 😁

I got this for stuff your Kindle day and thought a quick dark romance would be a good thing....

Well, I have been working on this one SINCE stuff your Kindle day which was like a month ago - I really wish I was better at DNFing...

I just didn't feel anything for this book at all there are really no words. If the plot itself was made to be better I think I would have enjoyed it more - but basically, this book is 100% smut. Then in the last 10% there becomes a bit of plot again.

The characters are absolutely ridiculous and whiney for being SERIAL KILLERS.... what serial killer says the word "crapsicle"?????? Like can I get a FUCK, SHIT, literally anything BUT crapsicle?

Normally I save 1-stars for DNF books but I feel like this one deserved a 1-star. Will not be continuing the series. Sorry 🤷🏼‍♀️

Quick and smutty. Just what I was looking for.

I grabbed this on stuff-your-kindle day as a quick read of the dark romance variety. And that’s what I got. Loved the whole vigilante meets mafia prince thing, but the plot was pretty non-existent until the last 10% of the book, but that little bit was enough to get me to read Would recommend if your looking for a quick dark romance with little to no plot.

Also, the writing in the first chapter had me feeling like I was having a stroke, but it got better after that. The banter was top notch and the spice was 🥵🔥 Spicy.

Let’s see how this next book is…

Could have had better smut. Could have had a plot. Could have used an editor/proofreader.

Loved the strong banter in the beginning, but then it mostly fizzled out. I wanted the snark to be that good through the whole story.

I want to know why she doesn't feel. I want to know more about his family and what they do. I want smuttier smut that doesn't feel like a quickie or fade to black.

Still going to read the next one, though. *shrugs* I'm curious to see if her writing gets better.

Free book from SYKD, and I was looking forward to a serial killer dark romance 2 of my favorite things, and this was just not it. Considering it's less than 160 pages it took me 2 days to get to 50 pages. Slog

Just no

The same thing still applies from the second their. Was just no plot just then going at it and the only reason I didn’t dnf was due to it being so small

You can read my review of Who Hurt You on my blog, here: https://thepaperworlds.blogspot.com/2....

This is a spoiler-free review! Trigger warnings include violence, attempted sexual assault, murder, and gore.

I downloaded this on Stuff Your Kindle Day, and then got so overwhelmed by the fifty books that I did download that I only was reading from my physical TBR pile for most of June and July. Looking for a quick little palette cleanser before diving back into a fantasy book, this caught my eye with it's summary and novella-length. Halle and Parks are serial killers, and Parks is Halle's stalker -- how sweet!

Halle works for some type of organization called the Library, where her marks, also known as "books," are given to her. She is very into seeking justice for women who have been wronged, and does not take BS from anyone that comes her way. She reminds me a lot of Sibby from the Satan's Affair by H.D. Carlton, in the sense of her personality and her motives.

Parks, ironically, reminds me of Zade from Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton, even though he is obsessed with Adeline in that duet. Both are stalkers who happen upon a girl that catches their interests and are serial killers -- starting to think I have a type when it comes to dark romance. He gives Halle the nickname of "Rainbow" because of her colorful hair, but it just feels out of place for a serial killer to be giving people goofy nicknames.

The banter was cute but it started to feel like the same thing over and over again, much like the dialogue between Halle and Parks. She was always questioning him and he would just respond back that he needed to keep her safe because there were people that were after her. After a few chapters of basically the same thing happening, the story started to drag on, which I thought would be hard to do since it is under two hundred pages. Halle and Parks definitely had a spark between them, and you could tell that the chemistry was there, but it kept feeling like they would almost reach this point of infatuation with one another, and then it would fizzle away.

Now, this might be me just picking at things, but I was going to start to lose my mind if I saw one more Star Wars reference while reading this book. I have to respect the media literacy with our main female lead, but my word I was getting annoyed every time she made a reference. Also, the way that Halle and Parks spoke to each other just was not my cup of tea -- they both sounded like they wanted to have an edge to the way they spoke, but it just came off as corny to me. Especially when they would be fighting one minute and doing it the next, there was barely any build up and then the scene would be over about two pages later.

I will say that there is definitely plot development happening in this story, despite what some other reviews say -- it is most certainly not all smut, and I would say that there is actually more plot than smut in a surprising turn of events. The story actually had a lot of potential, and I feel as though if it had been longer, we would have gotten a more fleshed-out story with well-developed plot and smut scenes. I was pretty much prepared for this to be all smut and a dash of plot, and was pleasantly surprised that there was some depth to the characters and the story, even if it was not extremely deep.

I thought this book was interesting and I, as always, love the psychos.

Things I really loved - the fact that they are BOTH psycho, that they are possessive and obsessive, and that they work well together and love each other as much as they are able. I also loved the dual POV. I appreciate dual POV anyway but I'm especially glad this book has it. If it didn't, I think I would be more confused than I already was. That being said...

Things I wasn't as fond of - the double standard; she isn't allowed to be jealous but then he gets a taste of his own medicine and it's game over. I really didn't like that because it just wasn't fair. I grew fond of Halle and I want Parks to validate her feelings more. Also - I didn't like that I didn't know more by the end of the book about why Halle is the way that she is. I understand why Parks is the way he is, he was born and bred that way. Halle on the other hand, was made that way. We see a glimpse of why but I want the full story. Hopefully we get that in book 2.

Last, this book ended me on a cliffhanger and I'm sad about it. I want to know what happens! It ends on a particularly juicy note and I really want to know how they get back to each other because I know that they will!

I do recommend this book. Chelle is a great author! Happy reading folks!.

My initial thoughts were a couple who slays together, stays together. I loved how quickly he loved her just by watching her kill 🤣
I love a crazy stabby FMC, and I was loving the banter. Especially the stalking and their interactions.

But then this male decides to keep her locked up knowing she has urges. He wanted her to stay put and wait for him all day…sorry absolutely not 🙄

I also didn't like how he wouldn't tell her anything and when she asked questions he told her to shut the fuck up...not a very nice thing to say to someone you love.

He knew how much she needed her independence but still locked her up. Occasionally, he would take her to his jobs, but that wasn’t enough. I thought he supported her, but no, he just wanted a kept prisoner that he “loves”. Apparently he did it to protect her…guess what?!! She got kidnapped in HIS APARTMENT!!!!

Yeah, I really enjoyed it until this point. Now I’m just over it and won’t be reading the second one because, looking at the reviews, it just gets worse. There’s supposed to be the pregnancy trope even though she doesn’t want children.

Um wow. I grabbed this one strictly on the name and cover. It is a dark romance but so enjoyable. Parks is on the hunt for someone that he is supposed to take care of. Halle is a hunter. She takes care of people that need to be taken care of. But once she runs into Parks her life will forever change. But will it be for the better? I absolutely loved this storyline. It was a page turning explosion of two characters who are so similar to each other it is scary. But will it be enough for them to come together and be happy? The chemistry is off the charts hot. There are some moments where you wonder just what is going through Halle's head but then you realize that is exactly what keeps her going. This is the first book in the series and I will be reading the rest of the series. Chelle Wolfe is a new author to me and she has gained a fan with this book.

Adult read -Book 1 and ends on a cliffhanger! No spoilers
Dark MF Contemporary Romance, dual POV, med burn/spice with trigger warnings so please take note

Halle with her fine tuned, customised method of vigilantism and Parks, her stalker and his own warped agenda we have the perfect storm of Crazed Central!

I love the Psychos and we have two headlining this Tale, Parks we do get some back story of but Halle we will have to wait for the next installment and it will be worth it. She is so damaged and vulnerable beneath that mask and knife play that I cannot wait to read her story.
Think she will ultimately be the stronger out of the two of them.

This is fast paced and although Dark with torture scenes, it was not excessive and graphic.
I enjoyed the character interaction, chemistry and relationship growth and will be reread as it is slightly different to most romances.

Cannot wait for Book 2 because that cliffhanger! Looking for more of Chelle Wolfe's books now.

Even in darkness love prevails

How much did I enjoy this book? So much I didn't put it down until I finished it.
Now, just dealing with the cliffhanger.
Halle and Parks are in my top 5 faves. They're who they are because of circumstance. Finding one another was like matching pieces to a puzzle. I'm pretty sure Halle will be able to save herself. I have a feeling Parks is going to need saving??? I have every confidence Halle is up to the task of saving the love of her life. Can't wait for more. Happy writing.

bought during “stuff your kindle.” riddled w grammatical errors. “no one had ever made me smile and been left alive to see it” yeah okay. crapsicle? son of a biscuit? from a serial killer? for people that should be on high alert, immediately having sex w your stalker (19 pages in) didn’t raise any alarms. forgot the plot and barely came back to it in the last quarter. never touched on who is family was. had maybe two pages of a vague idea what happened to her. whole thing was rushed and poorly written. very quick read, only took 3 hours.

meh until the last chapter

FMC is a hit man who killed his uncle. MMC is a hit man who is sent to kill her. He saw her and forced her to live with him and they fell in love. The story was meh until the last chapter when she is left at his place while he gets called to a family thing. She gets kidnapped and he is told he has a to marry someone for the family name. Book ends with one of his uncles calling someone and saying “kill her”
Weak spice, weak plot. But now I want to read the next book

This was quite the crazy train adventure. What it lacked in any kind of reality was made up for by Parks unenthusiastic but determined devotion to Halle.

I struggle with how mentally young the women in these kinds of books feel. I know they have trauma and are emotionally stunted but that just makes it harder for me to see them as able to consent and conduct an adult relationship as any kind of equal and not as prey, instead.

I wish the smut were a bit... smuttier. Especially for a dark romance book. There were some editing errors but that's okay. Overall it was a good and quick read and the way the ending was a cliffhanger made me wanting to read book two ASAP. I loved the banter between the two of them, if instalove isn't really your thing you probably wouldn't like this book since it seems to move aggressively fast. Overall, again, it was a good and quick read and I will be picking up the next book!

It had so much potential

It wasn't horrible. It started off good. Had me thinking it was going to be a stalker/mafia romance and the potential was there but it was lacking. Just felt like a bad joker and harlequinn romance. Extremely chaotic. The spice scenes were often but just felt lacking and happened often with no build up and kind of just came out of nowhere. Again it was kind of sloppy.

Mission Failed sucessfully

I liked the book. A quick read if you need to meet your goal. But it ends in a cliffhanger... Thats why I gave 3 stars.

The spice FOUR CHILLI PEPPERS
The Plot-There's a plot?

On a scale of Jane Austen to Edgar Allan Poe, how fucked up do you want your death to be?” Fuck me, did I just come in my own pants?

Its a good book. Probably will read the next.. I don't like cliff hangers...

it was great until the cliffhanger

I didn’t like the way the cliffhanger played out. But that is my personal preference. I really liked everything else.

I say list quickly turns to more feelings, possible love. They were perfect for each other in every way and I was sucked in. I hate the possibility of one of them believing a lie so I shops book two starts off the way I want it to. I am rooting for Parker and Halle!

It was ok. I almost DNFed several times but it’s not a long story so I kept at it. I forgot that it’s a “book 1” and wouldn’t be wrapped up, or else I probably would’ve stuck a fork in it. The writing is bad, it took forever to develop the story. Once I was invested enough to hope for a good ending, book over. I’m not sure if I care enough to read the second book. Blah.

I got this during the stock your kindle event. I thought I would absolutely love it. Killers who fall in love?? Perfect.

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I’m thinking that it just wasn’t for me. I love smut but I usually like a little more plot to it too.

I wasn’t going to finish it but it’s so short I ended up just finishing it.

Cover is beautiful though.

This was unexpected

I went into this blind and i wasn’t disappointed! Halle is amazing and i really want to know who hurt her for her to turn out this way! Parks falling head over heels for her is a sexy bonus. They complete each other. Like two souls that were meant to meet! I’m definitely diving into their final part! My 1st Chelle Wolf! I was not disappointed!

Yes, please

A snarky dark romance, love that. Halle is my favorite flavor of fmc! She's unhinged and has the fire. Plus immediate bonus points that she's a beardie lover as am I lol For real though the whole Parks and Halle situationship is highly entertaining and this was a really good quick read. That cliffhanger was like edging and I gotta jump to the next book asap.

I DNF at 36%, I probably would have soon, but I wanted to try and finish it’s not that long of a book, but I couldn’t.

I first thought the premise was interesting, but once I got reading, I just don’t think it was executed well. If it was written better it probably would have been good.

This was a bit hard to read, it felt like there was information missing and some of the sentences didn’t make any sense. The very first chapter in this book started in the middle of a scene and it never explain anything after it was over, no backstory, no nothing.
