A man killed in a desolate alley. A woman attacked in her home. Two detectives who must connect these events, and hunt down a killer who doesn’t give a damn.
A FATAL LIAISON ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A man is found dead in his car in a forest outside of Dublin. Very dead. There is quite a mess. The police suspect foul play and call in the detectives. It is not long before another body is found in the area. A full-scale murder inquiry is launched. Can DI Aidan Burke and DS Fiona Moore collar the killer?
THE CHINA CHAPTER ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A man killed in a house fire. Burned to death, but shot before the flames are set. When discovered, the weapon points to a China connection, but are detectives just being led away from a motive far closer to home?
4.75. Burke is the grumpy, sometimes dismissive lead and Fiona Moore is the steady 2nd who can think creatively to see the angles that criminals hope remain invisible. They have a reliable supporting crew. The first book provides some character complexity to these two but then the author doesn’t much bother in subsequent stories. The rest of the players remain pretty flat as well. The cases are more complex than the characters and I kept turning the pages to see how the squad would solve this one. The writing pulls the story along without a lot of violence or gore, just smart detective work.
These mysteries were fun to read. The characters are likable and believable, and the stories are simple enough to follow but complex enough to hold attention with a twist in the end. I like that the resolutions are not black and white, but the good guys come out well in the end.
I liked the way the author described the scenery, it made me feel like I was in Ireland myself, I love the characters, especially Heffernan, his character is strong but not overpowering.
Yes I would recommend this book, it's different and engages the reader.
As an American, having been to Dublin, I thoroughly enjoyed visiting again through this series. I loved the characters and their quirky personalities. The stories were all unique and I really enjoyed them.
Usual high standard from David Pearson. Plenty of great characters and stories. All in all a great series.. looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Nice to be reminded of home , Moore reading to look forward to., After she helped Burke tidy up and paint his entryway bright yellow , they work well together ,it's now a lemon entry !😀
Fantastic reads with more one than storyline . I have recommended them to a family member that lives in Dublin who I am sure will verify its authenticity.
I absolutely loved this books. They're skilfully written, they have well-defined characters whose relationships and speech are believable, and the plots are always satisfying. Love the sense of place, the setting and the three-dimensional nature of the writing and of course the unfolding of the story as the investigation nears its conclusion. Well worth reading, as are Pearson's other series.
