I’m sad to see this series end, but this was a wonderful finish! Heartwarming, emotional, and entertaining. I loved seeing how the future is laid out for Iris and her five sorority girls! Now, if I could only make a visit to Mother’s Resort. Wonderful series!
I really enjoyed all of these books. Felt like I have been visiting the islands during each one. I wish the series would continue but I loved how it ended with the warmth of Christmas. I almost wish I would have held off and read in December but I had to read it as soon as I saw Maggie’s post. Looking forward to what she is cooking up next.

Memorable Quotes: Josephine stood with her back to Lala’s table and spoke quietly. “I need some help.” “What’s going on?” “Lala wants the grouper special, but vegan.” Grace narrowed her eyes as she recalled the explanation of that special. “The grouper special is filet of grouper topped with ginger crab butter, served with pork fried rice and seared baby bok choy that I’m pretty sure is cooked in lard.” Josephine nodded. “Yep. And I did explain that to her, but she insisted that the chef make it vegan for her.” Grace took a breath. “Let me talk to her.” She put on a bright smile and went over. “Hi there.” She looked directly at Lala. “I understand you’d like to order one of our specials this evening but in a vegan version.” “That’s right,” Lala said. “That’s no problem. I just want to make sure you understand a vegan version of the grouper special will be plain rice and steamed bok choy, although we could certainly substitute the pork fried rice with coconut rice if you’d prefer.” Lala stared at her. “Coconut rice sounds good. But, like, make sure the grouper is cooked all the way through. I don’t like raw fish.” Grace nearly bit her tongue. “That’s not a problem, as there won’t be any grouper. Fish isn’t vegan.” The rest of Lala’s party was curiously quiet or occupied with their phones. It didn’t surprise her that none of them had explained it to their boss. “But I want the fish. Just the vegan kind.” Lala frowned. “Wait. Is it a whole fish? Because I can’t eat anything with a face.” “No, the grouper portion is a six- to seven-ounce filet.” “That’s what I want,” she said. “But, like, the vegan version. No face on anything or I swear I will send it back.” That was what Grace wanted to avoid. Wasted food because of a misunderstanding. Not to mention a guest who was upset their meal wasn’t right, all because they didn’t know what they were asking for. “We can do that, so long as you understand the fish, regardless of how it’s portioned or cooked, is still considered meat and therefore not vegan.” Lala looked confused. “Fish isn’t vegan?” Grace shook her head. As hard as it was to believe, she’d had similar conversations several times before in her career in the restaurant business. “No, but I believe fish with rice and vegetables could be considered pescatarian.” Lala twirled a couple of blond and pink braids around one finger. “I don’t care about that. I’m totally not religious.” One of the men at the table snorted, but quickly covered it up with a cough. Grace just nodded. “So the grouper, with no ginger crab butter, coconut rice, and steamed bok coy?” Lala nodded. “Yeah, that.” Grace looked at Josephine. “I’ll sort it with David.” Josephine mouthed a silent thank you and Grace went off to the kitchen, unable to keep from smiling. Wait until the girls heard about this one. Leigh Ann would laugh herself silly.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½🌊🖼🐬🐚🎄
My thoughts: The recap starts where the beginning of the series starts instead of giving you a recap of the last book. It's been about 17 months since I finished The Escape so it took me a while to match characters to storylines and some I felt I didn't quite pick up. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it in 2023 instead of waiting this long. Overall it had fluffy drama and conclusions so sweet they make sugar taste like salt. It's still great for a palate cleanser, I'm starting Book 7 immediately.
Recommend to others?: Yes! It's fluffy but I love it anyway.
Compass Key 1. The Island (2022) 2. The Secret (2022) 3. The Dream (2022) 4. The Promise (2022) 5. The Escape (2022) 6. Christmas on the Island (2022) 7. The Wedding (2022)
I guess this is the last book in the series. Everything was all tied up in Christmas bows. I am so sorry to see this series end. I loved each book and with all the new stuff happening I am hoping more books will be coming! (Hint, hint Ms. Miller!!!!!) All the books were feel good and uplifting and all involved older women starting new chapters n their lives. Give this series a chance, you won't regret it. Please read them in order.
I wish I had read the other books written prior before starting this one. There are so many characters and I didn’t know any of them from previous books. I never felt like I fully got to know them in this one either and it was hard to keep track with so many characters that I didn’t know.
Christmas on the Island by Maggie Miller is a quiet, cozy Christmas story with sunny island vibes. The characters are sweet and it's a pleasant, but forgettable, story.
The story captures the laidback, summery Christmas vibes of an island vacation. Overall I prefer my Christmas stories snowy rather than tropical, but I didn't deduct any points for that - that's a personal preference and I knew from the start what this story would be (it's in the title).
The characters feel like real people and I like how real the relationships feel, especially those between the characters in their golden years - I thoroughly enjoy golden romance.
That said, not much at all happens in the story, making it forgettable. I love cozy, slice of life stories - but if there isn't going to be much external conflict I expect internal conflict (and ideally some wit/humor/excitement/something). This story would have been elevated by meaningful conflict - I can't say there was no conflict because there were tiny moments, but it was stuff like 'should I cheat on my diet? No' answered exactly that quickly and without any complexity or real strife. We were walked through the step by step calls for making dinner reservations, etc. and in general the mundane moments that are normally glossed over in narratives were all included because this book *is* just mundane moments.
It does still earn three stars and not less because it was cozy and sweet, I just hoped for a little more.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Christmas on the Island - Maggie Miller Book 6 of the Compass Key series
Narrators: Vivienne Leheny, Laura Jennings, Allyson Voller, Cindy Kay, Nancy Wu, Sara Morsey, Suzie Althens
Buckle up for some feel good Christmas spirit, as we join five ladies, Amanda, Grace, Olivia, Katie, Leigh Ann and Iris who all are invited on a mystery trip that reunites them to Compass Key. Their house mother from their sororidy sent all five ladies invitation to Compass Key under mysterious circumstances. Can they drop their lives where is currently is to take on an adventure? Each woman is unique and hides a little secret, but they all need healing and support. Their friendship, their strengths and weaknesses are needed to build an unstoppable bond that will help to lead them. Now in their 50s, the women spend their time reminiscing about the good days, finding and loosing love and rekindling their friendship, all under the watchful eye of their friends and house mother. This is a heartfelt, loving and warm story that really illustrated the meaning of Christmas, friendship and healing, whilst providing some comedic moments. The narrators really bring the women and characters to life and make the story so heart wrenching and loveable that at times I was laughing and sighing at the plights and antics of the women. I will definitely be adding the book to my shelf.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 Stars Happy publication to Maggie Miller and Christmas on the Iskand! Thank you to Maggie Miller, Spotify Audiobooks, and NetGalley ( @netgalley ) for allowing me to read an ALC (Advanced Listener 🎧 Copy) for an honest review!
📅 Tuesday, October 24, 2023 was the pub date for Snowy Serendipity. The narrators🎙️for this audiobook 🎧 are Vivienne Leheny, Laura Jennings, Allyson Voller, Cindy Kay, Nancy Wu, Sara Morsey, Suzie Althens. 📅
What a fun, cozy, Christmas read! 🎄📖 This book gives off Hallmark Christmas Movie vibes! Especially when it comes to a community of women supporting and genuinely caring for one another. 💕 There are signs of love with engagements, acts of service, and gift giving. The setting is on Compass Key Island at Mother’s Resort as opposed to a Swiss chalet, a bakery, a family homestead, or a Christmas Tree Farm. Instead of a snowy small town, there is constant sunshine, sand, and surf.
This book is the sixth in a series but can be read as a standalone. However fair warning, once you read this book you’ll end up with one big problem…the desire to read them all. The characters are warm, charming, and realistic. The storyline is wholesome. And, you’ll be left in the holiday spirit albeit you’ll also be left wanting a cold fruity drink, a book, and a beach chair near the approaching salt water tide!
This was a lovely romance. While listening to the audiobook, I imagined overflowing pink balloons and hearts all the time. All characters were so good intended, everyone was so thoughtful and respectful. Even Yolanda managed to get pinky with only a short conversation with a person, she just met and belittled through their entire interactions. The resort gets the best employees, even if they have a history with the owners. Christmas presents are springing out of everywhere. It is mandatory that the presents are all thought of thoroughly and very specific to the person. Engagement rings fly around, just stretch your arm and one can hit your finger. I realize that this is the 6th book of a series and it was already late when I realized that I start a story from its very end. However, this fact did little to convince me that everything is so smooth and care free in an island where only women are owners and manage the resort together in full alliance and understanding. Not a single voice was raised, not a single misunderstanding or difference in view happened, which might cloud the sunny island. Was not this a little bit exaggerated? Just asking.
So apparently, this was the last book in the series…which kind of makes sense. I just came here to write this (Goodreads) and saw that it’s part of a series. Which is good, because I felt totally lost throughout. I did NOT know, so I did not read any of the others. And although I enjoyed this, I had a really hard time keeping up with ALL of the characters. (There are a lot!)
That being said, this takes place on a tropical island, at Christmastime, where several friends get together to celebrate at Mother’s (a resort).
As I mentioned, there are a bunch of characters, and it was hard to keep track of who was who (unless maybe you write it down…but I did not do that.)
Sweet, somewhat predictable endings… but still, enjoyable!
Thanks to #NetGalley and #SpotifyAudiobooks for an ARC of the audiobook which releases 10.24.23.

The first thought that came to me after I finished Book 6 of Compass Key series was "Que Sera Sera" which means "What will be will be"! ! Strained relationships with parents and siblings are mended! Trust is found again when the five sorority sisters find love once again after bad marriages and probably taking the biggest risk in their lives! I love how the richest man alive, Owen Monk, and the hunky four most eligible bachelors all end up in Compass Key and are reluctantly swooped up by four of the sorority sisters with trust issues! A marriage is saved for the fifth sorority sister! A reason to live is given back to Iris Cotton, the owner of the high end resort named " Mother's Island" when the ownership is passed down to the five lovely sorority sisters. Anyway, if you love romance stories, this is a series worth reading!☺
Christmas on the Island is the last book in the Compass Key series. Although this book is part of a series, you can read this as a standalone. The author does a great job of giving the background for each character and the events that lead them to the current book. I enjoyed the full cast of characters in the audiobook and loved the description of Mother's Resort. However, I felt that this book was uneventful. I kept waiting for conflict or for something to happen. I understand that this is the last book in the series and the author wanted to wrap up everything for the characters. I highly recommend the audiobooks for the readers who have been with Compass Key since book one.
The Audiobook for Christmas on the Island comes out on October 24th.
Thank you to NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks for the opportunity to review and advanced copy of Christmas on the Island.
Christmas on the Island is the sixth book in Maggie Miller’s Compass Key series. Once their sorority house Mother, Iris and her five “girls: Amanda, Grace, Olivia, Katie, and Leigh Ann and their significant others as well as their extended families have gathered at Mother’s Resort on Compass Key. Although a resort set up more for the rich and famous, they are expanding to attract and accommodate families and looking forward to so many new things in the new year.
With so much to be grateful for, including the near completion of family bungalows as well as employee accommodations, Iris and her girls are entering the holidays on a high. However, with the holidays there comes some positive change of heart that will add so much more to the holidays.
Mother’s Resort is located on a private tropical island and Christmas celebrations are about to begin.
You’ll meet a cast of characters that all come with their own stories: Amanda, Grace, Olivia, Katie, Leigh Ann, and Iris. As they prepare for Christmas and the time they’ll spend with each other and their families, they also find time to reflect on all that they’ve built here in Compass Key.
I really enjoyed listening to this novel and can’t wait to read or listen to others in this series. I’ve listened to other books written by Maggie Miller and this one did not disappoint. I also enjoyed that multiple narrators were used to tell the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks for allowing me to listen to an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #ChristmasontheIsland
This book was so sweet! While it was my first book in the Compass Key series, I felt that I immediately connected with the characters and their stories. Maggie Miller took me as a reader and immersed me in the book with the vivid and enjoyable setting, along with the characters who felt like neighbors and friends. Even with the surprises and obstacles set throughout the story, the holiday feels in this story were perfect! I listened to this story and the narrator was great! I have added the other audiobooks to my queue to return to Compass Key! Thank you to Spotify Audiobooks for the audio copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
This series is the best one yet, the girls are up in age and family is extremely important to all of them and family not all being blood related. If you haven't read any of the books thst Maggie Miller write I highly recommend you do very hard to put down. This series of Compass Key are the best if you love clean, fun and wanting a feel good books than read . Can't wait for the next book to come out and see what's happening with this wonderful amazing family and friends.
Christmas on the Island Compass Key #6 Maggie Miller This is the first book I have read in this series. The story revolves around six women and Mother’s Resort on Compass Key. It’s Christmas time and everyone is excited. The island is a vacation retreat for the well to do. I liked the characters; they are sweet and nice. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn’t. There was no conflict. There was nothing that would keep me interested. This book got a lot of good reviews especially from fans of the series. I wish I could say more but for me it was a 3 star.
Thank you to NetGalley, Spotify Audiobooks, OrangeSky Audio and Maggie Miller for the early release copy of Christmas on the Island in exchange for my review. This is a fun and lighthearted book. I really enjoyed the audio version and the performers did a great job. There are elements of family, friends and second chances. Follow a group of college friends Amanda, Grace, Olivia, Katie, Leigh Ann, and Iris. The women are able to reflect on what life has been so for and what they want out of the rest of it. A fun and cozy trip to Mother’s Resort!
I love the characters, the stories that lead us to enjoy their life journeys. I imagine more ideas are spinning and on the way to the pages we love to read. Will Yolanda stay? Will she truly have changed? And what about Amanda's Mom could she have changed too? Oh the magic!
I have enjoyed all five of the previous Compass Key books, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one so much more! I love Christmas time, and I loved celebrating the holidays with people I got to know from the previous five books. I had so many happy tears while reading this book.
I was new to this series, jumping in with book six. Typically, authors give a bit of background as each character appears to help new readers acclimate and remind returning readers what happened previously. This book assumes we know who all these people are and which employee on the resort they are dating. A little more description in the beginning to establish XX, who is in charge of YY on the resort early in the book would have helped a lot.
There are six (I think?) main characters who were all sorority sisters, plus the matriarch figure and her housekeeper, and all the various love interests. In the first chapter, there is a mention of Katie and Olivia's daughter, so I thought Katie and Olivia were a couple. Later in the book I learned they are sisters.
Then because it is the holidays, all sorts of family are coming to town and the new readers only get a passing mention about all those past feuds. There are so many people in this book.
I also didn't love all the fat shaming in this book. Every single character mentions their weight and most of them are on some special resort diet. It was jarring.
I never did learn how Iris came to own an island in the Florida Keys which is the whole setting of the book.
Thank you to Spotify Audiobooks and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. I am required by law to disclose this.
I enjoyed this series as a mindless read, but like most books that are female centered, you have to put up with the constant sexist remarks.
Women only care about weight, wrinkles and aging. Men look better when they are older, women look worse. Men sit at the head of the table and carve the turkey. Men like sports and women don’t. Blah blah blah
The ending of the story shows us that friends , family and health are all we need to keep on. Maggie has beautifully expressed how even in different circumstances we will always have challenges to overcome and at the same time entertaining us with a story very well written, could not put down the whole series.
Not a lot of action taking place, but the beach setting is lovely, and I enjoy a book about mature characters writing a second chapter, whether it be in their career or their love life. Based on other reviews, I think I would have found even more to enjoy in this story had I read the five books leading up to it.
Can't believe that I continued on in this series, but the 5 fiftyish women made me do it: continue to read. It's fun to follow Olivia, Amanda, Katie, Leigh Ann + Grace (I even remember all their names)! Never did I ever thought I'd read a Christmas book in July, here in Rhode Island. I'm onto the final book in this series.
Bookmas 2025 #6. This is the 6th book in a series, and I’ve never even heard of any book in the series. Yet I was able to catch on to the general gist quickly enough, despite there being 6 different main characters. I wasn’t able to keep track of every individual, but I distinguished at least half of their storylines. I loved that they were at a beach resort for Christmas.
This was a real feel good, make your heart happy kind of book. I have loved how the books in this series have all ended in personal happiness for all 5 of the girls, as well as Iris. Hope they continue with more books!
Another fabulous read by Maggie Miller. I didn’t want it to end, and hopefully she’ll continue with these wonderful characters. Each and every one still has lots to explore. This whole series, as are all of her books, EXCELLENT!
The books in the series are wonderful The people are so real I feel like I know them and I couldn't wait to find out what was the next I really love this and would suggest it to anyone.
