Very detail instructions and a good variety of patterns. I personally do not like seamed sweaters. So I am not planning on knitting anything from this book. My only complaint is yarns are not listed by weight. Only the specific brand they used to create the sample.
Knitting for Baby 30 Heirloom Projects with Complete How-to-Knit Instructions by Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas ISBN: 9781453268131 Ah another knitting book for baby patterns. Well although a LOT of my charity work is making things for babies and I'm a published crochet designer this book got my attention from not only the baby on the front but the colors combined on the sweater. Baby is real cute also! I was hoping to find some interesting patterns I might use for my charity knitting, just tired of the same 6 patterns for baby blankets I use. Love how it starts out with what knitting means to the authors. It is a work of love. Starts out with the tools of the trade and explains about them along with pictures. Love the little tips along the way, those are hard to come by. Shows how to cast on using many different methods and how to knit and purl, how to bind off and sew the seams. Has directions on how to make a checkered blanket, cushion and blocks. As projects go on other techniques for sewing and making different stitches are explained, in detail along with photos. My favorite would be the heart charted sweater. I have done them for a company once and loved the techniques and the charts are easy to understand. This even comes with an adult version! So many tips and techniques for circular knitting and DP needles as well. Nordic designs are what I would call for advanced knitters but even as a beginner once you have the gauge down there's no reason you can't tackle one of the Nordi sweater/charted designs. Just take your time because you will be working with multiple strands at one time. Toddler mittens with motifs on the outside are another favorite of mine. unlimited possibilities with just the basic pattern. Toys would be another big hit along with the felted diaper bag. What a treasure of patterns, tips and techniques in this book. Definitely one to add to your collection as a 'keeper'.
There are quite a few projects I would like to make for our baby on the way in this. I'll update this review once I have made anything. Thus far, I really do like a good chunk of the patterns, and can't wait to make several things. I originally checked this out from the library, but it is a book I'd like to add to my own library at home. I feel like a lot of crochet or knitting books I pick up only ever have 1, maybe 2 things in them I like, which keeps my from buying the book, Knitting for baby is not like that. Very cute and practical patterns!
I have to start my review of this book with a "it's for someone else's baby - not my own" because otherwise people will 👀.
I took the pattern for my best friend's baby from this book and it was a fantastic knit-up. I also really enjoyed many of the other patterns in this book. Yes, many of them are little clothes, but there are also creative knits like knitted blocks, balls, teddy bears, and a felted, structured diaper tote bag which I'm definitely going to make for myself not as a diaper bag but as a freaking cool tote.
This book has equal parts technique and patterns for beginner to advanced. A great book for inspiration for that baby coming to your family. Cute hats. Adorable blankets and sweaters. Wonderful booties on straight needles and on circulars. Easy to understand techniques with visual aids and color pictures. A true classic on Knitting for Babies.
Thank you for writing this knitting book. The patterns are in easy to understand language. The patterns are so adorable. I’d receive this knitting books to a beginner as well as a seasoned knitter. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with we the knitters out here
Super cute! I don't know which project to make first.
I really appreciated the in-depth, clearly written knitting instructions throughout the book. A novice could easily pick this book up and get straight to work, but the projects are not overly simple to bore an experienced knitter.
The projects start off simple (baby's garter stitch hat) and get more complex so it is a good workbook.
Projects to try: Garter Stitch Cloche, Mittens, Any of the sweaters/cardiagns, Especially the Aran pullover
A great beginner book to get started with knitting for little ones. I have made a few things already and have many more in my queue. The washcloth pattern especially is my fave (making a whole blanket out of it as well) and I have made three with more coming soon. I also learned techniques like mattress stitch and i-cord.
My sister got this book for me. It is only my second knitting book and I have found the patterns to be easy to follow and the pictures to be really helpful. I think the projects in the book are so cute.
Best baby knitting book ever.....I really like how their projects range from very simple to advanced. I've made a lot of baby blankets as gifts and it's nice to see an easy sweater or two for me to try. I got this at the library, but it's definitely one that I want to own.
