After a naturopathic doctor diagnosed a yeast overgrowth that's possibly the root of my ongoing intestinal problems, I researched the cause of it. This book came to my attention. It seems to make a lot of sense so I'm giving the diet a chance to see if it works. Still waiting to see improvement from the prescribed anti-fungal, Nystatin. I may be experiencing the yeast die-off (I hope that's what it is). I've incorporated the Paleo diet with this one, although, there are some differences between the two. The main thing is to avoid sugar which feeds the yeast, processed foods and all grains. At least for the first 30 days (re-set diet). It's going to be rough! Especially when I'm feeding a family that's not jumping on this bandwagon so there's temptations in the house. It may help me to remember that my cravings are the dying fungi in my body screaming "feed me!". NO!! Die already! This will be really cool if my asthma clears up too and I can get off that medication.

Um, where is the science behind some of these ridiculous claims?!

I get the diet part and overgrowth of yeast in our bodies due to food and digestive issues. Got it.

But did anyone actually read the part about women getting cysts, endometriosis, heavy menstrual cramps all from having sex with yeast-infected penis? No? No one? Only me? He claims that no pre-pubescent (read: not sexually active person) never has any of those problems, so it only makes sense that they come from male penis' covered in yeast. And that yeast causes those issues...

So, um, what about all the LGBTQ* folk out there, or what about nuns or abstaining people? How do you explain their reproductive issues? Hmm? No?

Also, he calls mammograms a hoax. MAMMOGRAMS ARE A HOAX HE SAYS.

Am I the only one who read all the way until the crazy end? Because this guy starts making some crazy ridiculous claims.

The Fungus Link was an incredibly helpful and informational tool for me to deal with chronic candida. As a research fanatic, the explanation of just HOW fungal toxins disrupt and injure the body and how to eliminate them made all the difference for me. There's a huge difference between knowing you have a condition and treating it and REALLY getting it and being empowered to deal with it in a holistic way - through nutrition, lifestyle, etc. Doug makes something complicated easy to understand and conquer! The Phase I diet really does work and isn't difficult to achieve on a daily basis with some effort. Knowing what foods to avoid during a healing crisis helps a person to realize what foods to avoid in the long run, as going back to them may regenerate the problem. As a result of faithfully following the Phase I diet and continuing to abstain from sugar, cheese, most grains and white flour products, I have achieved and maintained a 52 pound weight loss, lower cholesterol, significantly lower triglycerides, blood pressure and much more energy! A definite MUST READ for anyone suffering from candida, cancer, obesity, diabetes and many other ailments - fungus/fungal overgrowth, toxicity and candida is far reaching!

Kaufmann's theory is that fungus is a hidden cause of many illnesses. It can be cured by anti-fungal medicine and an anti-fungal diet that avoids fermented foods, fruits, and carbohydrates for a while to "starve" the fungus. Fungus infection has become a problem in the last 50 years due to food production practices, excessive sugar, and the rise of antibiotics.

The guy makes a lot of sense.

This has been a lifetime journey which started decades ago with Atkins and led ultimately to AIP (autoimmune protocol), keto, and both IV and HOCATT ozone treatments, all of which have worked to some degree. This three volume series explains everything (for me), like why when I did an initial elimination diet I threw mushrooms out, and why even the functional medicine doctor's suggestion for cordyceps was an immediate no. But the results of all of those efforts were haphazard until this book. It first started with a usual HOCATT treatment but switching from PEMF lymph drainage to fungus (general), and holy cow I Herxed. Then I started taking anti fungal supplements and transitioning from long-time AIP to still AIP but with an anti fungal focus. For the first four days I couldn't get off the couch, the die-off was really bad. That's how I knew this is Finally getting to the root cause. It appears it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to a year to rid the body of active fungus and mycotoxins depending on severity, and so far that appears to be correct. And that's assuming you don't screw up along the way (easy to do - was the cow you ate fed with moldy grains? I can feel it). Every day something different happens which seems to indicate the body is slowly addressing layer after layer of fungal damage, both physically and mentally. If this review sounds discombobulated, you have a window into what detoxing is like.

This is Volume 1, 3rd Edition. After seeing Doug Kaufman on Christian Television Network (CTN) on my Roku I decided to get his first book for more information. After reading his logical and well researched book about the possibility that fungus just might be responsible for a host of our current diseases, I plan to begin the Kaufmann Diet 1 (included in the book) on or around June 1. Anyone with various symptoms should read this book. I'll come back in July and let you know if it was helpful.

-Encourages me to want to eat healthier and starve the fungus to see if it would actually help.
-Nicely organized.
-Pretty dry and hard to read/understand. A lot of it went over my head.
-Sometimes left me questioning their ideas and didn't answer all of my questions.

Overall, I've read better but it still educated me.

I learned that almost everything I was eating was contributing to fungal growth in my body. I am doing a little better now.Don't read this book unless you are ready to just throw away any enjoyment of your favorite foods. No, really, it is very eye-opening and i have recommended it to several friends.

Wow! I have never been a health nut by any stretch of the imagination. This book has opened my eyes to how the things we eat affect what's going on in our bodies. The whole family has jumped on the Phase One diet to improve our health. I look forward to reading the next two volumes of this.

Are you familiar with fungus? It's an awful word, but it's much more common of a problem than most people think. Doug Kaufmann is one of my trusted experts for nutritional information.
