Rate this book
Start protecting your child today with the second book in the Where Hands Go series. The first book in this series helped kids learn to protect their bodies from unwanted touches. Now, with the release of the eagerly awaited sequel, Where Hands Go will provide your child with 10 easy-to-follow rules that will empower your child, so they know what to do if an unwanted touch happens. As a parent, you want to do everything you can to keep your child safe. With this powerful and important book, you can give them the tools they need to stay safe in a dangerous world. It is never too early to start teaching children self-defense, and one important lesson they can learn is to say no when they are touched inappropriately. This is a lesson in personal protection and can be taught to children as young as four years old. It's important to teach them this while they are young, as it is easy to forget these lessons as a child grows older. It's best to teach this lesson when a child is being touched by someone they know and trust so that they don't feel threatened. The lesson is to remind them that they can say no and that they don't have to be afraid. This is the best way to teach them how to defend themselves against bigger threats and will give them the confidence they need to stand up for themselves. Where Hands Go part 2 is a more detailed description of where hands should definitely not go. I would say for age groups that would better understand these scenerios and book 1 for younger ages. The rhymes are a great way for parents and kids to help remember the 10 rules along with beautiful pictures on each page. This is a great book for parents and educators to have as a resource.

Ahk, this is a difficult book to review. See, I really appreciate the message and I think books like this are important....but I also feel like the language is too much for the age group that this book is clearly targeted. This topic definitely could have been written in with language much more accessible to young readers. The problem is that the author would have had to completely abandon the rhyming plan she was trying for (and honestly, she should have because the rhymes weren't even consistent meter-wise).

So, A+ for messaging and goal. C- for execution. A lot of that language is going to go over most children's heads.

This last bit is a small and less important piece as the artwork was perfectly fine -- filled with great colors to keep kids engaged -- but dang, some of the foreheads were huge and it was really distracting for me.

This book is a critical story for all children to hear whether at home or at school. This goes on the must-read list without a doubt. This book is a first dive into the very broad topic of bodily autonomy, sexual abuse, the keeping hands to yourself rule, and so much more. It discusses wanted and unwanted touch by sharing ten simple rules for children to follow to keep their bodies safe and keep their friends bodies safe too.

This goes over what to do if an unwanted touch happens, where to go and who to talk to. This book is empowering and gives children the tools to use their voice to keep themselves safe. Cute illustrations keep the heavy topic light enough and the concept is written in a very easy language but parents or educators can make the conversation deeper depending on the age of the child.

This teaches them the power of their words and their voice, how to say no, and how to have the confidence to stand up for themselves whether in the face of abuse or bullying.

This story was both entertaining and educational, which can be a tricky balance to maintain in a children’s book, and I will be suggesting it to teachers whenever possible. Incorporating social-emotional skills and topics such as this into children's picture books is a tried and true way to teach an important life skill in a way that is fun. This would be an amazing addition for classroom libraries, counselling offices and more.

Teaching our children consent and how to identify inappropriate touching and behaviour is so important. This book helps explain it in a gentle way. It can be hard for parents to know how to talk to their children about certain things without scaring them and books like this are a great tool to use. We want kids to be aware and informed, not scared.

This book shares 10 different rules for body safety. Teaching children that their body is only their own, they have the right to refuse what makes them uncomfortable, that it’s okay to talk about their feelings if they feel unsafe, that everyone deserves their own personal privacy, to respect others body’s and privacy and more!

The illustrations are beautiful. They are so well done and very cute!

My only issue with this book is that it wasn’t written the best. The rhyming wasn’t good, it felt too forced and didn’t flow naturally. I found parts difficult to read because of that. However, this is such an important message and I still highly recommend it.

The book also features great information at the end for parents to help protect their children and be informed.

Thank you to NetGalley, Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs and BooksGoSocial for this copy in exchange for my honest review.

Where Hands Go, Such a small little book with an incomprehensible importance.
I’ll preface this by saying that i’m a csa survivor, and these books were never a part of my childhood as my abusers were my birthparents.
If i had found these books in a school library, a DAYCARE library, my life would look so much different than it does.
Every child should know the meaning of this book, this series. It’s so important from the moment they can comprehend sentences, to know the difference between a good touch and a bad touch, a good secret and a bad secret. These little differences can save lives.
Aside from the brilliant story with very age appropriate yet forward language, the parent notes and references at the end are AMAZING. As important as it is for kids to know these things, parents being informed is the very first step.
I recommend this to every parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, preschool assistant, etc.
Buy this book for your kids, teach them the 10 rules, and be open to questions, contemplate your answers, create a safe space for your children to ask questions and feel safe to come to you about ANYTHING, even the hardest stuff, it could save their life.

Where Hands Go

Wow! Where Hands Go is a great picture book! I was so delighted to see the diversity found in this book. It's very impressive. I think this book is a good resource for parents to teach their younger children about consent and autonomy over their own bodies. Everyone deserves privacy and "No" should be respected. I loved how the rules were short, sweet, and rhyming and that helps children to remember the rules. I would highly recommend this book to parents who are looking to have this difficult type of conversation with their children. IMO, parents, it's a must read for all, boys and girls.

Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Review for Where Hands Go by Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this amazing book. This short but sweet book is a fun way to teach children about their boundaries and how to set them. It is a colourful and well artistically illustrated way to bridge the gaps of communication for one of the toughest topics a parent has to bring up with a child.

The author did a great job of being inclusive so the book will be relatable to many children.

I would gladly recommend this to parents who are looking for a way to have this type of conversation with their child.

This is an extremely important book to read & discuss with children. Using it as a discussion springboard can help parents & educators keep our children safe as they learn and grow. I liked the various scenarios pictured in the book and felt they were well depicted and could be used in multiple ways to help children ascertain the important ways they need to be aware of their surroundings and protect themselves. I would like to have seen the word ‘no’ on the hand as well as ‘stop’ however. I also appreciated all the parental & educator advise given at the beginning and end of the child’s portion of the story! This is a book that belongs in every home & schoolroom!

Where Hands Go is a good book to introduce the concept of personal body safety. The rhyming text and cute illustrations make it very kid friendly. I also like the parent resource section in the back and the provided questions to ask your child to start conversations. Sexual abuse is a tough topic to discuss with young children, so I love that this book is all about empowerment.

The only thing I didn’t like was that the colors of the text sometimes blended in with the illustrations which made it hard to read. Other than that it was a great book!!

Where Hands Go - Body Safety Rules book 2 is a must in my house. Having 3 girls in my house this book helps with the discussion of Body Safety and boundaries when it comes to our body. I love the rules in the story, it helps us talk about each other in depth and lets all of us be open to questions and discussions.
The message is important and the I love when a book can make that discussion, however hard or uncomfortable, easier and educational on everyone involved. This is a book I would put on my bookshelf at home and recommend to others.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

This is a really important book however I still feel like some of the language is a little above the reading age for this book. I understand this book should instigate conversations but I feel if you are doing a read a loud you will have to explain a lot that could have been written a bit more simplified.

That being said I will be buying this book because the topic is so very important and the illustrations were fabulous.

I really like Where Hands Go by Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs. Once again Ms. Sanders Diggs tackles a hard subject that kids need to know about in an easy-to-understand and effective manner. In Where Hands Go. Ms. Sanders Diggs presents 10 rules for children as a guide for them what is appropriate and what is not. I believe that Where Hands Go is a good resource for people that work with children to have and for children to know about. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

Wow, this book is so great! First, I absolutely LOVED the diversity in the book. What great representation! This is a great book for parents to use to teach their kids that they have autonomy over their bodies and to teach them about consent. I really appreciated that each rule was short and rhymed as it makes it easier to teach and memorize.

I will definitely be adding a physical copy to our library and will be highly recommending this book. Thank you for the change to read and review!

I read the first book in the series and thought it was insanely Important education tool for parents, educators and most of all kids.

These rules are so important to teach children. Child sexual abuse and exploitation is not something a child should be ashamed to be afraid to tell us. For too long children felt like they are to blame or that it was normal.

Thank you for bringing this educational gem into the world.

Thank you NetGalley for bringing thus A.R.C into my life.

Better than the book before it, but still think the message would have had a stronger impact if some of the topics in the 10 rules would have been more direct

Certain topics in the rules were more ambiguous, and kids will understand concepts better if things are more explcitly/directly spelled out

Again, focused more on the flow and rhyming than the message it's trying to convey imo

This is such an important topic and is crucial to teach to even very young children. The power of no is quite powerful and every child needs to learn that no means no when it comes to unwanted touching, and to feel safe and respected. Highly recommended.

A rule book to help parents teach their children to become aware and understand their bodies' privacy clause. An excellent little book with sound advice for parents to instill into their children.
