What is the Catholic Church all about? What does it mean to be Catholic? What do Catholics actually believe? The Catholic Church is extraordinary. Founded by Christ himself, the Catholic Church is where we encounter God in his Word, his sacraments, and his saints. The Church faithfully proclaims the fullness of faith, leaving no truth out. It proclaims the fullness of life, leaving no person out. It calls all to repent and to believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the source of all life and salvation.
Maybe you’ve been Catholic your entire life. Maybe you’re just beginning to explore the Catholic Faith. Wherever you are in your journey, you will be profoundly moved by the beauty and the richness of the Catholic Church.
Written by Marcellino D’Ambrosio and Andrew Swafford, What We Believe presents and explains the essential teachings of the Catholic Faith in a readable, approachable way. In it you will

This is an easier-to-understand, beautiful, and poetic catechism. I think I highlighted the entire thing! An example: Chapter 12, page 167
How can Jesus be present bodily under the forms of bread and wine? The transformation of food and drink into Christ’s Body and Blood happens the same way Mary’s virginal conception did: through the power of the Word and the Spirit. It happens the same way creation did: the world was made out of nothing through the power of the Word and the Spirit (see Genesis 1: 1–3). Likewise, in the Eucharist, the One who said, “Let there be light,” also says, “This is my Body,” and, “This is my Blood.” At the same time that he speaks his Word, he sends down his Spirit. And the awesome change takes place. God’s word is efficacious; he accomplishes what he declares, and he does so in the very act of his declaring it.
What a truly moving pilgrimage thru my faith. Thank you to the writers. Strongly recommend this to all Catholics both new to the faith and cradle Catholics. Better yet read it as part of a program in your parish as a small group.
Our book pick for Mom’s GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) this semester. Another desert father defined humility: “It is when you forgive a brother who has wronged you before he is sorry.” Too often, when we think of evangelization, we think simply in terms of trying to get someone to join our “party”… There is a place at the table for everyone. But how will they know unless we tell them?
