Constance Barker lives in the Midwest with her husband and two Akitas where she can look out from her screened porch onto a wooded area brimming with activity. Since she was a young girl she read mysteries, often given to her by her grandmother. She loved figuring out who the culprit was and sometimes she was right and other times startled at who the author picked as the assailant. Now she enjoys writing mysteries herself. When she isn't writing stories, she can be found in her favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas or shopping for bargains.
A bear, a fox, a cat and lots of magic... Great fall murder mystery. With loads of magical creatures and interesting characters. I really enjoyed it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Tabby Kitten Mystery Series Books are books that can be read in any order and enjoyed as stand-alone cozy mysteries. To enjoy the Tabby Kitten Mystery Series Books to the max, you should read them in the order in which they are written. Each book ends in a perfect foreshadowing of the opening of the book that follows it. Book 1, Familiar Magic ends with Blain asking Thea to go to the Harvest Festival with him and Book 2, Creature Magic begins with them enjoying themselves at the festival.
naware of the fact that Blain has a fear of heights, Thea lures him into riding the Ferris wheel. When the wheel reaches the top, Thea spots something lying on the ground in the center of the cornstalk maze and they’re off to investigate. The body turned out to be that of Marcel Faust, the owner and head chef of the Cuisine Maline Restaurant. The chief suspect in his shooting death is Elanor DeWitt, the owner of the Witt’s End Diner which Cuisine Maline had dethroned as the recipient of the Better Business Bureau prestigious Best Restaurant of the Year Award after a thirty consecutive year winning streak.
Thea has a great deal invested in this murder case because the chief suspect, Elanor DeWitt, is a beloved lifelong friend of Thea’s beloved grandmother. Thea, with her familiar Sybil and her sidekicks, Jessie and Pippa leave no stone unturned in her quest to find the murderer. As the list of potential villains grows, the more personal risks Thea faces, but with Thea, as it was with Admiral Farragut, it’s “Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead.”
Thea realizes who the real murderer is and calls her friend, detective Blaine on her way to confront the culprit herself. Before Blaine arrives, Thea faces two angry, gun toting…. Well, go read the book to find out who they are and how Thea handles this deadly situation. All I’m going to say here is that she didn’t resort to using her magic. As for me, I’m off to read Adventure Magic, Book 3 in the series.
In a small community along the Mississippi called Ardensville , magic isn't totally hidden. Witch Thea Beal is friends with police detective Blaine Coburn, and once again helps him magically with a murder investigation. This time it happens in the corn maze at the Ardensville Harvest Festival. Thea discovered the body while on a Ferris wheel ride with Blaine. That was the end of the date and the beginning of the murder investigation. Once again, amazingly, Blaine accepts Theas magic and her help. Together they sort through many suspects and follow false leads. Wonderful characters new (a man who actually had horns!) and old (Pippa-friend and shifter Fox) and many others combine to make a terrific story with so many possibilities! Of course there's Sybil, Thea's familiar, who only looks like a tiny ball of fluff kitten. In reality, she can do so much more than even the most clever cat! I felt like I was at the festival from the descriptions, and now I am craving cider and funnel cakes! Especially nice fall mystery reading!
Thea is at the festival with Pippa and Jesse while waiting to meet up with Blaine for their friend/ date. Thea and Blaine are having fun until Thea sees what looks like a body in the maze. Blaine and Thea check it out, someone was murdered in the maze. Blaine informs her that is was Marcel, he has to questions her grandma's friends. Thea decides to help with the investigation to see who had an issue with Marcel. Thea learns there was a lot more to Marcel. Thea will have to try to figure out just who committed the crime.
This was a fun, light hearted, clean and entertaining read. You have the mystery of the murder, Thea and her family and friends, her magic and romance. You will have fun reading this story and won't realize that the book is already over. You will not know who did the crime until the end, which makes it even better.

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Thea a young witch who owns her own craft store lives in a small town where her aunt is the mayor and she lives at home with her grandmother. By the way all three of them are witches. Many people in town are supernatural as well. Shifters fairies wizards witches and a number of others. As well as humans. Follow along as Thea who has a knack for solving mysteries and crimes chases down all the clues in her pursuit to solve it. With the assistance of her kitten familiar at times are best friend who owns a bookstore and sometimes with the assistance of her detective boyfriend or at times to the customer nation of her boyfriend. She always seems to get her crook. Read on and enjoy.
This is a story about Thea, a witch and her familiar, a yellow tabby known as Sybil. Thea and her bear shifter cop discovered the body of Marcel in the corn maze. Who murdered Marcel and why?
The characters are unique, curious, and relatable. This fast paced mystery has many characters in this most unusual town where the various paranormal (such as witches, warlocks, shifters, demons, and talking familiars) live as normal citizens among the tourists being none the wiser.
This is the second book in the cosy mystery that I discovered I found enchanting especially the kitten named Sybil.
Thea’s friend-date with Blaine at the Ardensville Harvest Festival turns deadly when Thea spots a body in the nearby corn maze. The most likely suspect happens to be Granny’s friend. Thea uncovers unpleasant facts about the victim, and suspects and multiply. Her investigation to find the truth lands her in serious danger. Creature Magic is a well crafted mystery. I especially enjoyed how Thea and Blaine grow closer as they work together.

Really enjoyable story. Characters are strong, warm and engaging. Plot well thought out and flowed well. I t was interesting and exciting and had lots of twists and surprises. One annoying thing.was the choice of some words and phrases. I have read many times the statement someone was struck "in" the head instead of "on" the head but this book has a statement where someone goes "under" the door not "through" the door to exit. Is that a phrase in some parts of the country? If so, where? Satisfying conclusion.
Blackmail and Rivalry!!!!!! A great murder mystery involving members of the paranormal community. I found this book to be very entertaining and could not put it down until I had finished. I loved that one of the shapeshifters is a fox. No sex, gore, curse words, just a overall good book that will keep you guessing until the end. I myself did not figure out who the killer was.

Romance and murder. Their first date is cut short when Thea and Blaine discover a body in the middle of the corn maze and the festival. The owner of a new restaurant in the city has been murdered and they discover he was a half-demon. Everyone connected to him give reasons why someone in the town could be a suspect, but is it someone no one would suspect? Or is the obvious murderer the one who did it? Creature Magic shows what lengths a person would go through to right a wrong. Thea and Blaine have teamed up to solve another case, but the outcome was surprising. Thea and Blaine have also expanded their relationship. Pippa is the best friend that anyone could ever hope for. All of the characters have made this series something to look forward to reading.

A usual date night turns deadly for Thea and Blaine. But that isn't the only thing that was different. Thea and the 'victim' had a short moment before he died and Thea didn't like what she felt. There are some shift changers in this story along with a list of suspects who could want the new restaurateur dead. So sit back and enjoy this story of Creature Magic. This was an intriguing mystery! I enjoyed the different aspects of the characters that came to light in this book. I still think Sybil is an awesome familiar. I look forward to Thea getting a better handle on her magic and perhaps using it more in future mysteries. I loved reading this!
I love Constance Barker’s writing. You can’t go wrong with any of her books. This one is no exception. Fantastic characters and a great storyline makes for a fun and fast read. It was hard to put down!
