From the moment I met her, I wanted to own her, and turn her into my perfect Omega pet. The redhead with a disapproving frown, and a body made for sin. There is just one tiny problem. She's not an Omega.
He thinks I'm a non-dynamic. I'm not. I'm an Omega taking suppressants. Each day gets harder. Each day is a risk. To hide what I am, I've bartered, racked up debts, and my time is running out. So when Lucian made a proposal, I jumped at the chance. Money will free me, and allow me to escape. And besides, what could Lucian's Omega drug do that wasn't already done? The ruthless man is determined to own me, and now I've just walked into his perfect trap.

In a secret garden hidden behind a wall of shrubs and trees amid a tiny English village, you'll find L.V. Lane's writing den, where she crafts spicy adventures...Magical and mythical creatures, wolf shifters, and alphas of every flavor give our sweet, sometimes willful omegas and heroines a guaranteed HEA. If you like my books, you might also like my contemporary pen name, Verity Arden!

This was probably my least favorite in the series so far. It wasn’t bad, I just wasn’t feeling these two for some reason. Probably just me.
On to the next…although I’m not all that excited about it since the blurb says Hudson is going to share Anna with a third. They are my favorite couple in the series, so I’m not that excited about my previous HEA being messed with…but gonna give it a shot nonetheless.
I'm reading this series out and I might reread it. I remember a few couples from their previous appearance in their own books and they are here too. Though the book can be read as standalone.
Hindsight this isn't my preferable plotline but the scenerio was pleasurable and scorching hot. Lucian is an Alpha who is ruthless and devious. Madelyn is a non-dynamic. This different dynamic is different and gives a different perspective from previous books which keeps me interested.
I had a GR friend recommend this to me, and I'm really glad I gave this a try! I can't believe I only recently found out about this series.
Ruthless Control is #6 in the series, but can be read as a standalone. This was a pleasant surprise! While it's not my favorite Omegaverse I've read, I enjoyed the world-building (specifically how the virus causes the dynamics, how the dynamics have been used as soldiers in wars). There was no info-dumping; I enjoyed how the author revealed small details about the world as I read on. Also, this book is great because it's not a mfm or mfmm menage (lol) and has a beginning, middle, and end, instead of being a serial. I also liked the added details about the bond, and I enjoyed Kais' moments in the book as well.
Ok, here's why I almost knocked down the rating to three stars:
Triggers: Safety:
There are light BDSM elements in this book - just personal preference but I'm not always a fan of BDSM in Omegaverse (although BDSM elements go back to the start of M/F Omegaverse, and can be found in fanfics on A03 all the way back to 2012). The author did a good job with it though, and it made sense for the characters.
I read another review that said Lilly's story is #3-5 in the series, and I'm definitely checking that out! After reading this book I'm very interested in Lilly & Tsing. The fact that Omegas are assigned controllers and used in the wars is interesting too - I'm really looking forward to giving Deviant Control a try.
This author REALLY likes the word “assimilate.” I have read quite a lot of books in my life and I can honestly say that I have never seen this word used with such abandon! It’s not a word that you see often, so when it’s used SEVEN times in such a short book, it becomes annoying. I’ve read all of the books in this series and she uses this word in all of her books. I felt like by book 6, I could have turned it into a drinking game... do a shot every time I see the word “assimilate”. I would have been hammered by the end of this book!
Aside from my dislike of that word, this book just wasn’t for me. I thoroughly enjoyed books 3-5, Lilly, Ethan and Ryker, and I wanted to like Lucien so badly from the very first moment that he was introduced in those books, but he was just too much of an asshole. Throughout the majority of this book, Lucien was trying to “break” Madelyn a.k.a. his pet. He ultimately succeeds when she begs him to collar her. I’ve read a lot of BDSM books and I’ve loved most of the books that I’ve read. What I love about the D/s dynamic is how most of the Doms cherish their subs and take care of their needs. I thought Lucien was selfish and self serving. I didn’t feel like he had any genuine love for Madelyn (in fact there are no “I love you’s” in this book, which is odd for a romance novel). I found him to be selfish, uncaring, and a huge asshole.
I also found it really hard to like Madelyn. She started out as sassy but completely lost her entire identity and just became his pet. I found her constant trembling and neediness to be annoying. I didn’t understand what she saw in Lucien. He didn’t treat her with kindness, in fact he practically brainwashed her. He kept her imprisoned in a room and the only time she was allowed to leave was if she was wearing his collar. He also kept her brother imprisoned and had his goons beat the crap out of him, but no one even batted an eye at that, most especially not Madelyn, probably because she’s such a good “pet”.
The whole “pet” thing bothered me too. I’ve read other BDSM books where that term is used with a lot of affection and it was fine then, but I felt like Lucien didn’t use it for that purpose. I felt like he used it to degrade her. The part where he put a collar on her and led her around on a leash was particularly degrading. I know this is a common kink, but it was a complete turn off for me. Also, the book just ends. They were at a party and having a conversation and it just ended. It was so sudden that I kept flipping back and forth between pages to see if I missed something.
Overall this was my least favourite book in this series.
I was super curious about Lucian and his Pet after reading Deviant Betrayal and L.V. Lane didn't disappoint with this installment in her Controllers series. While being a part of the series, to me this book has a somewhat different tone and content from the previous books. Here we step away from the war and into the opulent world ruled by Lucian. Lucian is the embodiment of devious, scheming Alpha who is as ruthless as he is utterly delicious. he definitely finds his match in Madelyn who has her own agenda and secrets. I really enjoyed the slow build of their relationship and the way they both developed and evolved to fit each other's needs. It wouldn't be an L.V. Lane book without some significant steam and it delivered on that front as well. I also really enjoyed the side characters (Rhett!!!), getting to visit with Lilly and her boys as well as the set-up for a potential future story (pretty please!!!).
Lucian is the supposedly sophisticated Alpha but he’s just better at hiding his feral nature. He meets his match in Madelyn or Pet as he calls her. Great exploration of submission and genuine dominance. All wrapped up in a well written omegaverse story.
Ruthless Alpha Gangster meets Omega in hiding and a bargain becomes a battleground!
Lucian is an Alpha. He is not in the Armed Forces in the battle against the Uncorrupted like most Alphas we meet in this series! After five years of service to the force, they parted ways and Lucian now runs a lucrative yet somewhat illicit nightclub. He is a key underworld figure on the Empire’s main city on the planet Chimera and is wealthy beyond most Alphas needs. Lucian’s influence in the criminal underground is significant as we saw in the previous book when he was able to assist Ethan and Ryker in their quest to rescue their Omega, Lilly. Lucian likes to keep pets, of the human variety on a leash and has his eyes set firmly on what he believes is an Omega masking herself as a non-dynamic.
Madelyn is an Omega, and when just eighteen years old revealed her dynamic on her second testing. She has been using suppressants when her heat was upon her in order to stay off the Empire’s radar and out of the war with the Uncorrupted. She works in a posh café not far from Lucian’s club and she has been bringing him a coffee every morning for some time.
Even though this book is not set in the battlefields, the war between the Empire and the Uncorrupted features heavily. Every aspect of life in the amazing world Liv Lane has built is affected by the insidiousness of the Uncorrupted and the Empire. The relationship between Lucian and Madelyn (Pet, as he calls her) is no exception.
Lucian is a former Controller; he is Ruthless in this aspect. But you can tell from the outset that he has a bunch of the soft feels for his pet, Madelyn.
The heat levels in the bedroom (and other places) is off the charts in this book. Detailed sex scenes and the usual Alpha/Omega power exchange rituals involving spankings as discipline abound to make this an 18+ read. I gave it five stars.
Very erotic in a disturbing way. I happen to enjoy sci-fi romance. This may not exactly fall into the romance category, but it has the underlying forces of attraction that normally accompany such tales. I read this as a stand alone novel. If you don't read a lot of sci-fi, you might have a few questions about what is happening at the start. The characters are well written and compelling.
Fans of dark scifi omegaverse will not be disappointed. This book is about Lucian and Madelyn. We have met Lucian from previous books and get to know him more in this book. This is book #6 (with three previous couples) in the Controller series, though you don't need to read previous books, it will be more delicious when you know the bigger story arc.
I am giving Ruthless control 4.5 stars. LV Lane crafts her story well and I fall in love with her unique omegaverse/semi-dystopian settings. Ruthless control also carries some mild BDSM tone.
Lucian is an Alpha through and through and like the title says, he is very ruthless and manipulative. Madelyn is a muted omega. Their chemistry is off the chart and they are scorching hot together. Lucian is typical for LV Lane's Alphas. He has anti-heroes personality, possessive yet very caring and devoted to his omega.
The only small draw back I have about Ruthless Control and holds back another 0.5 star is my feeling towards Madelyn. After reading Lily's story (in Deviant Control/Deviant Evolution and Deviant Betrayal which are Book #3-5 in the series), I feel that Madelyn is a little bit weak. Her life only revolves around Lucian and she caves in easily under his pressure. I would love to see Madelyn stronger with more talent ( like Eloise, Anna or Lily). The ending also feels abrupt. I feel there are some unfinished business regarding secondary characters ( eg. Madelyn's brother, Lucian's brother).
Overall, Ruthless Control is a great read. My favorite is still Lily-Ethan and Ryker. No couples can beat them. And I hope LV Lave continues to write more books from this series.
Honestly, for real, hands down this is my favorite of the series! I think you can really tell how much this author has grown from her debut book to this one! There’s just something about the Alpha character of Lucian and his ruthlessness that will draw you in and absolutely not let go. I think the main female/omega character Madelyn is well written too. She’s different from the omegas out there. She has a reason to be and has a hard time coming to grips with it all. She’s always hidden who she is and almost has herself convinced that she’s a non-dynamic ... Almost. I think this book has a bit of everything, lust, intrigue, sensuality, brutality, and most of all a great balance of Alpha/Omega. Not over the top, but not too little either. I highly recommend this book.
This is the sixth in Ms. Lane's sci-fi Omegaverse series; although it's a standalone in terms of the couple, the world-building was a bit confusing to me since I hadn't read the other books. The author does provide a glossary, but so many characters from other entries appeared that I couldn't keep them straight; thus, the main line of action -- akin to a mafia turf war -- was lost on me.
Alpha Lucian wants Madelyn, but she's not an Omega. To win her, he convinces her to take an Omega-inducing drug; she does and it's successful. Little does he know, however, that she's keeping a big secret from him...
If you're looking for an Omegaverse book that's not too harsh, you may enjoy this. Certainly, Lucian is obsessed with his "pet;" the hierarchy presented here was interesting (other dynamics, such as Gammas and Thetas, exist, which I have not seen before); and the prose flowed with few editing errors that I saw.
That said, this book ultimately wasn't for me for three reasons. First of all, I didn't like either character and felt little connection between them. Contrary to his claims of needing/wanting her, the highly manipulative Lucian did everything he could to drive her away: he never told her how much he cared for her; he made her think he'd give her away to another man; and he had so little concern for her well-being that he kept her so sexually frustrated that she couldn't eat. While I do like Omegaverse, I resist those stories that substitute sex for true connection and I felt that happened here. When Madelyn said she felt safe with him, I thought it was just her hormones talking. And his insistence that she wear his collar and her insistence that she wouldn't got old quickly and proved little more than a tempest in a teapot.
Madelyn was little better: she was interesting in the beginning, but quickly became a pale version of her former self in her desperation for sex. While I understand that some authors depict Omegas as submissive, that should never mean boring or without agency.
Part of the reason I felt no connection between them is because they really aren't together for probably half this book. Lucian runs a criminal empire and is often speaking to, well, other criminals and Madelyn really comes across as secondary in his life.
Second, this was filled with plot holes and missed opportunities for character development. I would have traded yet another argument over the frigging collar for one conversation between Madelyn and her brother (and does she ever notice that he's ?). And when Lucian .
Finally, the book ends very abruptly and spends far too long on characters tangential to this storyline.
3 stars, which is generous. Honestly, if I ended up as Madelyn does here, I'd probably kill myself and, no, hormones can only explain/excuse so much.
Ruthless Control is book 6 in the Controllers Series by L.V. Lane, and boy it doesn't disappoint-- Hotness overload!
Lucian is an Alpha and a ruthless business mogul, who is used to getting to what he wants ... Madelyn is a non-dynamic who is at the bottom of the status food chain. And when Lucian sees her for the first time, it doesn't matter what she is, he wants her.
I was very intrigued by Lucian in the Deviant Control books, with his pets and refined manner. I am happy to report that Lucian is everything and more that I expected, even though, Lucian is no Ethan he is a bit of a romantic, which I liked.
The chemistry between Lucian and Madelyn is off the charts, it's almost a Cinderella story, in the sense that the handsome prince (Lucian) saves the beautiful and feisty servant (Madelyn) from a harsh life, by giving her a way out.
There is way more to the book than I can put in the review and not spoil the plot for you, but know that this book and series is a must-read for all Dark Omegaverse readers.
Madelyn is a sassy redhead who has decided she has run out of options so trying to play the most dangerously cunning alpha she knows somehow seems like a good idea. In hindsight she realizes that probably wasn't the best laid plan but wow does it lead to an intriguing and sensual scenario that I am still fanning myself over. Wicked and wild Lucian is one of the sexiest alphas I have had the pleasure of reading this year. This couple and the red-hot storyline was a winning combination for this reader which I enthusiastically recommend! I am still eyeing my kindle suspiciously expecting it to start smoking at any moment.
This was quite a story! I loved the storyline, and it reads so quickly that you blink and its over. It sucks you in from the first sentence and absorbs you into its world of Alphas, Omegas, suppressants and the political culture. I'm always a sucker for an alpha/omega story and this was quite a twist on that. I am trying very hard to not give anything away, but holy cow guys! This is a phenomenal read, give it a try!
I received a copy of this book from TBC Reviewers request- Thank you This book is part of Lane’s Controllers series but is readable as a standalone. Another well written offering from Lane who has the talent of creating characters that really feel alive. A well written novel that was pacey and entertaining- thank you
I love Alpha and Omega storylines and the way this author writes, you can't get enough. Lucian wants her to wear his collar and Madelyn wants to hide her dynamic. Such a sexy, hot and exciting story. So loved it!
Ruthless Control by L.V Lane. A very enjoyable read with some good characters. Well written with lots of action. This is the first book I've read by this author which I really enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more. 5*.
This was the worst of the series so far. While I‘m a sucker for collaring, the whole buildup was nice but then the actual thing felt short? Plus I am really not into breeding and since the other books had non I kinda asumed I was safe… not sure about the next one after reading the teaser.
Amazing! I loved how this story followed along with the others but, was different at the same time. I adored Lucian and Madeline! The are definitely my new favorites!
Whoa! Talk about an intense action packed book! Loved the humor and the intensity of this book. Couldn’t put It down! So loved the push and pull of Lucian and madelyn! I can’t wait to read more!
I love this series as a whole because it brings different kinds of Omega to the Omegaverse world, because they have gifts. And they are sent into the war because of these gifts.
I also liked how this book had an Omega who doesn't end up going to war and yet you still get as great a story as the others in this series. The author brings enough action and angst that it is never a boring read. And you get so see things from a different perspective.
Also this book moves the story along even while it takes place pretty much the same time as the last story in the series.
I have to admit I couldn't put it down and read it way faster then I wanted to! I love a book that I want to finish, but I don't want to finish at the same time. Those are the best kind of books!
This is an utterly fantastic story with a very sexy but completely ruthless alpha male. I was completely enthralled and captivated by Lucian. He is the ultimate controlling alpha who gets what he wants. He took me on a very stimulating and steamy ride of epic proportions. Lucian draws you in with his smouldering good looks and his fierceness. I would love him controlling me! Madelyn is very different from the other omegas. She’s sassy, witty and very stubborn. Lucian is the perfect alpha to control her. Their interactions are full of rage and intense sexual chemistry. The perfect combination.
This story was phenomenally written and highly entertaining. It was sexy, intriguing and thrilling. I crave these characters and absolutely want more!
Yes Lucian is a bastard but a bastard in love with his gorgeous omega and I can’t wait to hear more about these amazing anti-heroes! I hope they all have their babies how exciting this is and I hope they get to the bottom of this mess!
Lucian likes his coffee to be delivered by the same barista everyday. It just so happens she has the body of an Omega and he has an experimental drug to change her DNA that he’s been wanting to try out.
Little does he know that Madelyn has been suppressing her true nature and the drug merely throws her into a hormonal whirlwind where she accidentally imprints on the powerful businessman.
This was a different look into the Controllers universe where instead of war and the carefully planned research facility where Omegas are prepared we see the seedy underground of the planets where non-dynamics work menial jobs for the Dynamic elite and drug running and questionable business practices reign free.
I’ll admit I found Lucians pet intriguing during Lilly’s story and I was happy we got a chance to see how that played out.
