Things got a little spicy at the end of the series, Straight Outta Dade County. So much so, that the characters introduced in that series, along with the ones we’ve grown to know, needed their own story. In Straight Outta Dade County, something started between Bria Robinson and Efrem ‘Pee- Wee’ Jackson, and with the proper time and care, it might be able to go somewhere. Bria is a beautiful young law student with big dreams and even bigger demons. The same day her mother brought her into this world was the day her mother lost her life. That tragedy forced Bria to be raised by her aunt and eventually her grandmother, where she experienced traumatic events that have haunted her into adulthood. With all the hurt and pain Bria has been through in her life, the last thing she needs is for someone to come along and damage her even further. Can Pee-Wee be the man to give her the love she needs? Pee-Wee is a handsome young man who has probably been with every chick in Miami. He’s young, getting money, and has never been willing to settle down before, but can he change his ways for Bria?
Then, there’s Dace Jackson, the older brother of Pee-Wee, who has relationship issues of his own. Dace is charming. With one smile and a compliment, he can get any woman to do anything he wants. Dace gets around Miami with women, but somehow, he always finds his way back to Duchess, the beautiful nurse who doesn’t take any crap. She’s a strong, independent woman, but we all have our weaknesses, and hers happens to be Dace. The two of them are deeply in love, but they can’t seem to get it right. As much as Dace loves Duchess, he knows she deserves better. Duchess must decide whether to wait for Dace to grow up or leave him to find her own happiness.
Another couple that we know a lot about already is Orion and Kelsey. They always come with the drama. After all the torture, neglect, and disrespect that Kelsey has endured at the hands of her husband, she has moved on and reunited with her first love. Things move fast between the old lovers, and before long, Kelsey finds herself still married but carrying another man’s child. We all know Orion’s character and how much he loves Kelsey. He has no plans to sign any divorce papers, and he just wants to maketheir marriage work, but there doesn’t seem to be any hope.
Part one of this rollercoaster ride of a series will have you glued to the pages. Relationships are tested, enemies come out left and right, and drama continues to unfold. Every relationship is different, but with what each couple is battling, they’ll all end up sporting the same gray hair in the end because their issues aren’t light, and they seem to have no end.
Look I was wondering why most of the reviews left by fellow book friends were only ratings without words and now I understand. There A LOT to unpack in this first book and I’m not even sure I have the brain capacity to do so 😩😩 This crew is A LOT and if I have two more books left, I can’t begin to imagine how the drama is going to continue to unfold….. a bish is STRESSED 😰
Even though the series opens with Bria and her struggles and whew sis has plenty of them I’m going to tailor my review around the Jackson siblings because they seem to be the core and connection amongst all the other characters. We have Alecia, (Efram)Pee-Wee, Dace and Orion.
Alecia is a bad ass attorney and is on her ish. She’s the oldest of the bunch and has the least amount of drama in her life. In fact, her life couldn’t be more perfect. She has a man who worships her and they just welcomed their first child together. I LOVE her and Montana! Their relationship is definitely #couplegoals! Montana is no longer in the drug game and all of his business are legal. Now he’s looking to help her knuckle head brothers do the same. At least Pee-Wee and Dace because Orion is a lost mf cause.
Dace is a heaux if I’ve ever seen one. He has a ride or die by his side, Dutch, and despite the love they clearly have for each other, he can’t seem to stop cheating only he says it’s not cheating because they don’t have a label placed on their relationship. 🙄🙄 This ninja has all the audacity and has the game f’d up. Dutch is a good girl. She’s a labor and delivery nurse and on her grown woman ish. She’s loyal and loves tf out of a ninja that refuses to acknowledge her worth but like R. Kelly said, when a woman’s fed up, there ain’t nothing you can do about it and Dutch is fed tf up!!!! Sis has reached her limit. I can’t wait to see how their drama unfolds because Dace was not ready for Dutch to pull a him on him😩😩
Then we have Pee-Wee, the baby of the bunch and when I say baby that’s a stretch because he’s 30 so let’s just point out that all these ninjas are too old for the shenanigans they be on. Pee-Wee is a scammer and well it’s Miami so what do we expect (slight shade 🫢). He’s heavy in credit card fraud and other illegal dealings and he’s making millions. But now he’s starting to realize that he’s too old and ready to go after his dream of fashion. He has several legal business ventures in the works and is at the home stretch. One thing I love about Pee-Wee is that he loves hard and he rides for those he claims as his. That’s where Bria comes in. Bria has had a hard life. Her mother died during child birth and she never knew her father. Left in the care of her aunt and grandmother she experienced abuse to the point where she took accelerated classes in order to graduate at 16 and go off to college. Now she’s 23 and in her last month of law school. She and Pee-Wee crossed paths because Bria works at Alecia’s firm. The two of them were always cordial but after a near death experience, Pee-Wee makes it his business to look after Bria and he does an amazing job.🥰 Sadly Bria’s past is lurking in the shadows and I KNOW some ish gonna pop off in book 2 after what happened with her cousins and Cautious. I’m rooting for Bria to win because sis deserves happiness.
Now let’s take out the trash…. Orion Orion Orion!!! This ninja is toxic as toxic can get. He’s in the middle of a brutal divorce from Kelsey. She’s the mother of his three children and after enduring more than her fair share of abuse she has had enough. She’s reconnected with her high school sweetheart and they are ready to move forward but Orion is not going down without a fight. He’s definitely the black sheep of the family and after a shooting that confined him to a wheelchair for 5 years of his life something changed in him that makes it unbearable to be around him. He’s angry with the world and snaps at a moments notice. My anxiety is high every time he enters the story because I know Diamond has something up her sleeve with his character 😩😓. I pray Kelsey and her boo Omelly can get the HEA they deserve because Orion is trouble!
Let me give an honorable mention to Willow… she seemed thrown in and I’m curious to see how she reappears in the next book and her role in the series. Her entry has to be a set up for something big. This was definitely a great start to the series and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 2.
I see Orion still a spiteful bxtch 😒😒. I’m loving Pee-Wee & Bria getting closer. Her cousins just trifling as fck, I know Sirena mad Pee-Wee ain’t fck nor want her. Im glad he fckd ole dude up too cause he was a whole bxtch too.
I had to take a break from the prior series, but I'm ready for anything. I adore Bria and Pee-Wee. Bria deserves to win and discover her voice. Should I even talk about Orion and his mess like it’s Orion you already know.
I’m so sick of Orion - I don’t know what to do! He is miserable and he wants everyone around him to be miserable. Can’t stand him! The star of this book for me was Pee-Wee. I love him for Bria. We really got to see his heart of gold in this book.
The third series done started off with the STRESS and MESS lawd. Let me just start off with the heaux heaux heaux brothers I don't feel sorry for....Orion and Dace. Orion was on that good bs throughout the entire book. He didn't want Kelsey to be happy at all. He is literally King Petty without reason. His actions caused these reactions and he swear Kelsey should have just dealt with his mess. Boy Bye, I promise I wanted Omelly to pistol whip him. It's fiction, just accept I like them grimy when necessary and with all the stress he put Kelsey and his kids under he deserved grimy. Dace, you played yourself bro. I can't stand a ninja hollering I love you more than anything, but I can't choose up and be in a faithful relationship with you. I was TIIIIRED for Duchess. She was so stressed at a point she lowered her standards for him, accepting his bs and for what?? only for him to continue to play in her face. These brother's act like they didn't have a mother that loved them when they DID.
Peewee was the saving grace. I want him and Bria to win. Poor Bria has been the Cinderella of her family. They just step all over her and treat her with such disgust. Her so called cousins are hot trash. When I tell you I wasn't ready for this story line, I was not at all. Their relationship is slowly progressing and I like that Peewee is moving at her pace, while showing and proving that he has her back. I hope Bria finds some peace soon, because the abuse, stress, and loneliness she has been experiencing is too damn much. She deserves all the good things and I am happy Peewee is there to help her navigate all the mess she encountered.
I loved when sweet Handsome Marcellus made his little cameos. Glad to see Alecia and Montana thriving as parents. They were the only ones stress free.
I think this story could have been at least 30 pages shorter if we left out all the backstory. Just add a disclaimer to read the other books first and then you don't have to keep explaining why characters felt the way they felt.
3.5⭐️ I loved the characters, but the constant repetition became exhausting. We’d read their thoughts, hear them say the same thing out loud, and then see it repeated again. It made the story feel redundant and overexplained.
This was so good. I’m so glad Kelsey has moved on and happier. Orion is so toxic I hope he realizes that he’s the common denominator in all his problems. Bria deserves all the good things and I hope Pee Wee makes sure she gets them. Her family is pretty much trash. I need Cautions and his brother gets their karma real soon. Dace and Dutch can’t get out of their own way. I can’t wait for part 2.
Ok ok it took me forever to read this series but I am here for all of it. I get a bit confused by the characters but it's only because it's been awhile. Why I feel like Bria and Dutch are my favorite because you can literally see yourself in either one of them. It's alot of moving parts to this story but I am definitely keeping up. The plot has thickened for every one. They all have some decisions to make!!
Geez Orion is so annoying and I can’t wait until Kelsey is divorced from him. I love Alecia and Montana with their family. Dace is another brother that needs to get his self together because Dutchess going to leave him. Bria family is awful but she is determined to make it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Hummm okay a lot and a little happening at the same time... I want something to slap the mess our of Orian foe talking to Kelsey like that... I hope Bria find her voice and strength
"Beautiful" was used 60 times to describe something about the characters. Next time, can it just be said One time that everyone was beautiful from their face, melanated light to dark skin, bright white teeth and baby gums, to their light colored eyes, dimples, long silky curly or straight hair, small waists and fine tattooed bodies, designer clothes they wore, bussed-down jewelry, mansions they lived in, foreign cars they drove, and city skylines?
Had there not been so much repetition, this would have been a 5-star read. I really enjoy this author and have read a majority of her catalog, but I found myself having to skip over the descriptions and inner monologues that were repeated ad nauseam. Like other commenters said, we know what taking showers consist of, and no need to have a character retell a scene in the same detail that we just experienced with them. There has to be a better way to achieve the desired word-count.
I like all of the main characters, except of course Orion. I can't wait for his transformation, I or Omelly to lay him out, whichever comes first.
I hope Pee-wee continues to be a good dude who stands in the gap for Bria. She's been through enough, and I can't stand for an innocent character to keep getting dragged through most of the series.
Both Duchess and Kelsey are in a tough place. I love Omelly for Kelsey, though, and she definitely deserves nothing but TLC after the ex that she had. For real though, two "surprise" pregnancies in one book is a bit much.
The part about using chloroform in the Uber cars doesn't make sense. How Sway? But! I did get the message to remind myself and others to check for child locks before the driver takes off! 🙌🏽
I recommend the series, and am glad the 2nd book is already out so I can go right to it.
Kelsey girls talked too much. Alecia already spoke to them about that but children will be children and don’t think they doing anything wrong. Then Orion had the nerve and he’s one disrespectful nicca. Just the nerve and this book has three parts and I’m betting my last dollar the author will try to redeem him and give him HEA with an unsuspecting woman SMH! Their children need therapy and those girls will be scarred for life and will grow up thinking that how Orion treats Kelsey is normal. Orion was so ignorant.
Duchess needs to keep her hands to herself and her and Dace too toxic. Sometimes you need to walk away and clear your mind!
Bria needs to toughen up if she wants to be a successful criminal attorney because she’s a wallflower and doormat, and have people taking advantage of her. I would have put that cousin out on her behind since she’s not holding up the end of her bargain. Bria is a sweetheart and just need to toughen up.
Dace and Pee-Wee just typical niccas acting like they teenagers and not able to settle down and just continue to be with a bunch women.
Dace was just disrespectful with all these women and then trying to dictate what cray cray Duchess does SMH! What’s the kicker in his mind they “weren’t together” so that gave him the right to think with the wrong head!
Pee-Wee had to thread lightly with Bria because that guuurl went thru it as a child and still living with the trauma because she didn’t trust anyone! Pee-Wee heart is generous and not just with Bria, but all those other women, which will give the women be deals with the wrong idea. In another series he got a scare about someone trying to pin a pregnancy on him!
The struggle is real when you see what these folks doing to these unsuspecting women and their families. Just a sad state of affairs and a travesty. I. Annoy wait for those people to be handled!
Can miss Kelsey catch a break?? Im like 6 books deep & that girl still going through it 😭😭 can Orion start changing now?? Ain’t no way that man that damn delulu.
Listen, this book would easily be a 5 star read for me if it was just Bria & Pee Wee point of view. I kid you not, their storyline is the type of storyline where after their point of view I get mad as heck every chapter after theirs that it’s not them.
I love Bria & how different she is from most FMC. Her cousins trash.
Pee Wee is such a sweet heart omg.
Like I love them soo much that I hate all the other main characters cause I just want more of them.
Like sooo many point of views for no reason. I find myself skimming through half the other point of views. There no need for a Willow, Cautious, Omelly point of view. I don’t care for these characters outside the characters they come attached to.
I’m literally will read book 2 just for Bria & Pee Wee.
Half these characters can have their own books for example Willow can be a spin off. Her in this book felt out of place.
Also this author has a thing when it comes to overly describing her characters to the point where it gets annoying.
Example: “he was black as fu**ck, while my skin was a caramel complexion.”
Like ?!?!?!??!! You could have said so many others things to describe that man. Dark as night is a thing!
And too much emphasis on caramel colored skin like and how every female characters either has nice long natural hair or curly hair. This is a span of me reading about 5 books of hers & she describe them the same way every time.
Black is black. Chocolate skin.
You don’t need to keep describing the characters skin tone. They all black to me.
I surprisingly really enjoyed this book! I do have a few gripes about it, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.
What I loved: Bria’s character—I liked how hardworking and smart she was. She was just trying to make it, and I want her to win! I enjoyed her relationship with Pee Wee as well; he was definitely coming with the right type of energy.
My favorite characters were Bria, Alecia, Montana, Kelsey, Pee Wee, and Omelly—pretty much everyone except Orin. I did like Duch, but she was kind of acting like a bird, putting up with Dace’s foolishness.
I really liked Alecia and Montana’s relationship. They were speaking facts and dropping gems. I love that Alecia is a girls’ girl and a boss—love that!
I really like Omelly. Now that’s a real man right there, and I think he’s just right for Alecia. She needs a good man after dealing with Orin, who isn’t shit!
I’m actually glad that Duch finally wised up and left Dace where he was because he was playing in her face. She definitely didn’t need to choose him over the job opportunity when he was choosing other women over her!
I don’t like Orin. That’s it, that’s all!
What I didn’t like: What was kind of annoying was the constant character descriptions and outfit details. Also, there was a bit too much cussing, and some parts of the book felt like filler that I ended up skipping over.
This story had a lot of unnecessary details. The author has to learn how to tone the details down. I don’t need to know u “turn the shower on, grabbed a towel, got in the shower, put soap on the towel” etc. Ik how a shower works. Also the descriptions of what everybody was wearing in every scene was irritating, along with the repetition. The story is decent, but the over the line details were by far annoying. I ended up skipping a lot of pages trying to get to the end. But I like the characters enough to finish. I just hope Bria get some back bone because she’s becoming annoying being a doormat. There are too many characters as well. Also before I end this review and start book 2 there things that didn’t make sense. But 2 things stood out. 1. Bria said she was 16 when she graduated HS and went to college. She says that was 3 years ago so that would make her 19, but later in the story she says she 23. Did I read that wrong? 2. How was the sex traffickers putting chloroform over their victims mouths if they were driving? Usually ppl that take Ubers sit in the back seat. So how r u driving and still able to cover someone’s mouth with chloroform at the same time? That made no sense and shouldn’t have worked.
Loved it from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read part two. The characters are believable and it’s not just about money, cars, clothes and sex. It has real life issues too. For instance, Orion and Kelsey…their divorce and Orion not wanting to fully understand that he is the reason for the demise of their marriage. Then you have Pee-Wee and Bria, Bria been through hell and is usually closed off from people and shy but Pee-Wee is a player but yet he isn’t a dog about it. He treats all the women he has dealt with with respect and is a giver and has this I am who I am creativity vibe total opposite of Bria. Which brings me to Montana and Alecia, former hustler and player meets attorney at law and has her life together and let’s not forget Kelsey newly divorced back with her first love Omelly the boxer beginning a new chapter in her life and last but not least you have Dace and Dutchess…Dutchess really loves Dace and wears it on her sleeve but Dace he does love Dutchess but has a hard time letting his true emotions show. Like I said real shit…don’t miss out because you know Diamond Johnson always blesses us with the page turners…..
This book picks up right after straight outta dade county 3. Orion is still bitter, annoying & very much narcissistic. Dace is lowkey annoying too cause sir just get it together. You say you love this girl but for some reason can’t commit please be fr. I feel like duchess gone make me angry in the next book because I despise that trope but we’ll see. When OMELLY went to Orion as a man & wasn’t on no raw raw stuff he got even more points but I really hope this love triangle & foolishness doesn’t cause Kelsey to lose her baby. Now for as my fav Pee-wee & Bria I LOVE THEM 😍 They are soo cute & it’s how pee-wee not playing about Bria at all but imma need my boy to teach Bria how to have a backbone & stop being so meek & mild cause she should’ve been went upside Mercedes head for playing with her & her money. Anyway, I can’t wait to see how their relationship unfolds.
This book was really good, I love to know what’s happening with some of my favorite characters.
Well let’s start off by saying Orion is Really being a Selfish Prick!!!! He is Very Disrespectful to Kelsey and it’s not right! Omelly is really getting annoyed with Orion and how he’s treating Kelsey.
Alecia and Montana are going strong, they’re raising their son and loving on each other.
Pee Wee is still the same Crazy dude just living life to the fullest. He’s always like Bria and after a situation that Bria found herself in may bring her and PeeWee closer.
Dace and Dutchess are our toxic couple but they love each other dearly, Dace needs to reevaluated what his priorities are and be honest with himself before he miss ou
Bria has all kind of insecured from her past with her mom people. Almost kidnapped in a uber,Mercedes man tried choke her. Pee Wee two businesses coming up no one knows but Alecia. Pee Wee there to save Bria both times. Pee Wee n Bria have a connection. Dace n Duchess toxic connection. Duchess offer job in Houston, Dace says go for it. Dace hasn't seen or talked to Duchess 3 weeks. Duchess move to Houston and she's pregnant. Kelsey divorced Orion finally, his pissed. Try to keep Kelsey upset so she can miscarry Omelly's baby. Omelly wants Kelsey n kids to move to New York.
Diamond awesome to this series, i love all of the couples. Who do you love and will you love them more than you love yourself. Bria is strong and mature beyond her years, PeeWee is perfect for her and i can't wait to see where their relationships goes. Now Duchess and Dace, love them as well. Dace is just afraid to committ. Kelsie got a real one in O'Melly and what can I say about Alicia & Montana they're couples goals. Orion can kick rocks along with Bria cousins! Onto part 2!
Wow so much drama going on! Them Jackson brother's Orion, Dace and PeeWee were all a mess! None of them knew how to deal with their emotions. Bria is falling for PeeWee even though Alecia told him her staff is off limits. Duchess with her huge secret. Caution is about to encounter some problems he can't handle trying to get at Bria. Her cousins are a whole trip and Roscoe got his behind handled for what he tried! Looking forward to the next book in this series!
Man, what a read, but I'm loving every minute of it. I can't stand Bria cousins they are so selfish and mean to her but I can't wait until she finally starts putting her foot down because I know she is, and I think Pee-Wee is good for her. No matter how many times Orion tries to explain why he acts the way he does, it's still not acceptable, and I'm glad Kelsey moved on with Omelly. Poor Dace had to learn the hard way to put his pride to the side. Now, I don't know how's he's going to feel when he finds out the Duchess is pregnant. On to part 2
I enjoyed the book. I wonder if jace going to find duchess in houston? Will she ever tell him about the baby? Will Bria and peewee finally get together and how would alecia accept the news of them being together. I wonder if cautious would ever find bria, what would happen with mercedes and roscoe from peewee beating him up. Would Mercedes and Bros continue to live together.
I must admit that I skipped probably 50% of this book and not because it was bad, moreso because the author did such a great job in the opening, and throughout the book with Bria’s character I really was more pressed to see where her story was going and didn’t even want to build a connection with the other couples. I think maybe stand-alones for each couple might have been a better format. Amazing writing though!
I really wish Diamond would have kept to book to maybe just Pee Wee, Bria, Dutchess and Dace. There were too many characters and not enough about each to really connect with any of them. We really had enough of Orion and Kelsey from the last series and I felt that they could have been left out of this book. Also, why have that one chapter with Willow when she wasn't mentioned anywhere else in the book. I'll see if part 2 is any better.
A good group of characters and a run on from a previous body of diamonds work…Bria story is so f’d up and ur sucks that she has battled so much in her life in just a short amount of time but finally she has someone to b in her corner….Kelsey and O still going at it and he still being immature their story speaks about the bitter man for once and Dace lorddd he better get it together before he becomes a thing of the past..Diamond always writes a good body of work
Can’t wait for Bria to gain some confidence,Pee Wee is a good for her.Orion and Dace are so damaged, especially Orion, can’t wait for the beat that Omelly will dish out in…5…4…3…2…1. Bria needs to wise up and see that her family is evil. Duchess and Kelsey have been doormats for their respective men for too long. Why do I think the cousin’s dad messed with Bria! 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ for this excellent storyline.
Bria has me begging her to get a backbone in my head but I know past trauma has her the way she is. Peewee is good for her. I can’t wait for her to boss up as a lawyer! Dutch is strong but fell for a ninja that ain’t ready to settle. Dace absolutely deserves to lose her for taking his sweet time to get it together. But I know there is more for them. Orion is horrible! Omelly and Kelsey will make a nice blended family! On to Part 2
It's always that one person to straighten you right up! Bria and Dutchess is about to gather those hearts together. Bria's cousins are the absolute worst. Jealous is an understatement, smh. Orion is bitter and miserable, I am rooting for Kelsey and Omelly, because Orion is not about to let her be happy.
