Just a grandmother who loves to tell stories. Coming soon: She was born in a tiny crick at the end of a dead-end street and raised by a wise old starling who walked with a crooked cane. She enjoys endless hours dining with fairies and entertaining dragonflies.

I don’t see many fantasy novels for younger children so I am always a bit excited to find one. Favorite Things is the start of a fantasy series by Sharon Mathers. In this first volume we meet Leo and his friends and follow along as they explore a cave and find a magical treasure (and superpowers). Along the way the kids research to find out what the clues mean and to find out more about the community in which they live.
Mathers has created characters that many readers will be able to relate to. Each of the friends has a different personality. Readers will be able to find one character that seems a lot like them.
Favorite Things could easily be added to a K-12 Christian school library. The characters are about twelve years old but the story is written for children younger than that. The book is appropriate for students who are starting to read chapter books or more reluctant readers in grades 2-5.
I received a complimentary copy of Favorite Things. This is my honest review.

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. The audience is definitely for younger kids, but regardless I still felt it was very rushed. I liked how it was a smaller book, because it didn't make me feel overwhelmed to read it, but I wish the author didn't rush through the story so much, and had more detail. The story itself however was okay, it kept me intrigued, and it was fun and lighthearted which I also liked.

This is a great, engaging read which is sure to keep young children entertained and interested with the fantastic, well-paced narrative. It's quite cheap considering the quality behind it, too, which makes it a must-have, in my opinion. I highly recommend this! 5/5!

Good book for kids, Got this book after I read the 2nd book in the series. I wanted to give my grandson these books. Glad we have both of them and will be waiting for the next book to come out.
