The False Hero #6

The False Hero, Volume 6

Rate this book
Lutz finally finds a place in the elven lands where he's been accepted, despite his title of False Hero. He works tirelessly to protect the elven forest from a deadly disease and a rampaging horde of demons. But just as he puts a stop to the plans of Chaos to summon an army at the elves' doorstep, he receives a pleading message from Princess Lumina.

The Orakian Kingdom's capital city of Roshar is under siege, and the walls have been breached. Fearing the end of her country, Lumina requests help from Lutz using the artifact he gave to her when they last parted. She follows his orders, heading to her private chambers to use yet another artifact give to her by Lutz. When she casts the spell held within, a teleportation circle appears on the ground. Immediately after, Lutz, Laya, Alisha, Belle, and Tylith all appear before the shocked princess.

For the first time since his escape from the dungeon, the False Hero has returned to the castle.

Corporate worker by day, author by night.

It's not easy to find time to write with a 9-5, but I've wanted to get The False Hero out of my head and onto paper for a long time. My goal isn't anything lofty, like quitting my job to become a full-time author. No, I'll be happy to break even on my investment (full color illustrations are not cheap!). Even if nobody reads my books, I'll keep writing. Why, you may be asking? Well, simple--because I want to read them!

I hope those of you who've been enjoying the series will stick with me as I continue down this fun and adventurous journey.

This is sixth in an isekai LitRPG and you definitely want to read in order.

I got tired of Lutz having to play the False Hero in order to save King Jerkypants just because Lutz's friend (King Pants' daughter) asked him to. So I bailed for a couple months. Most of a year, actually. And then I got over myself, determined to just skim to the end of that particular part only to pick it up and find out I was almost done with that painful section anyway. So go me!

The rest is what you might expect. Lutz sticks around in the capital running side quests, killing assassins, dealing with poverty, setting up Lumina as a religious figurehead, beating up slavers. You know, all the things you do while visiting a new town. Also getting a new overpowered Hero skill just for fun.

I'm going to end up with four stars even though I bailed initially for so long. Once I got back, it was a smooth ride all the way to the end. And meanwhile, there are two whole new volumes just waiting for me to pick up! Best reward ever for stalling out on a series!

A note about Chaste: We continue to subvert the harem subgenre by having a bunch of young folk who have no clue about sex and no desire to find out. I love that more than a little and this remains extremely chaste.

First book of the new year!

The authors ability to product such a rich dialogue with playful banter between the cast helps readers get lost in the moment unfolding in their minds. Each of his characters feel so real and fully developed that you can't help but get lost in the story and wanting to learn each of their motivations, dreams, and desires.

I am very glad I was able to start off the new year with Michael Pymel's newest addition to the story of the false hero.

Still enjoying this storyline

The author seems to have certain cliche ‘episodes’ that he wants to write about in his books, last book it was hot springs, this book seems to contain his Gladiator games scenes after the ‘defend the Capital from a major assault’ arc. These Gladiator scenes barely moved the story along and the aspects needed for the core storyline could have been done in a much simpler manner. As I have now caught up to the current release, I will now wait patiently for the next book where I will need to read the recap chapter to remember the story properly first.

The False Hero, Volume 6 by Michael Plymel

Rating:(1/5)

Review:

  Plot:

The False Hero, Volume 6 concludes the series with a resounding thud, a cacophony of missed opportunities and narrative missteps that epitomize Michael Plymel's consistent descent into mediocrity. The plot, if one can call it that, is a haphazard collection of unresolved threads and uninspired resolutions, leaving readers with a bitter aftertaste of disappointment.

  Character Demise:

The characters, once feeble attempts at depth, are now mere shadows of their former selves. Plymel's disregard for character arcs reaches its zenith in this volume, as protagonists and supporting cast alike are left to wither in a narrative wasteland. The false hero, devoid of any genuine growth or transformation, serves as a fitting metaphor for the series as a whole.

  Prose and Stagnation:

Plymel's prose continues to be a stumbling block rather than an asset. Dialogue lacks the wit and nuance needed to breathe life into the narrative. Any attempt at eloquence is suffocated by the author's penchant for trite expressions and unimaginative phrasing. The writing style remains stagnant, a constant reminder of the series' failure to evolve.

  World-building Woes:

The world Plymel attempts to portray is a desolate landscape, mirroring the creative bankruptcy that plagues the series. The potential for a vibrant and immersive setting is squandered, and any attempt to explore new facets of the world is abandoned in favor of recycled fantasy tropes. The world of The False Hero remains as false as its titular character.

  Conclusion:

The False Hero, Volume 6 is a lackluster finale that fails to redeem the series' myriad shortcomings. Michael Plymel's inability to deliver a satisfying conclusion further emphasizes the narrative inertia that has plagued the entire journey. With a plot as aimless as a ship without a compass and characters as lifeless as ink on paper, this volume serves as a fitting conclusion to a series that, from its inception, was a false promise of literary satisfaction.

Amazing Tale!

The False Hero is certainly an oddity - almost dystopian in some respects. And yet…one of the most satisfying and endearing stories I’ve come across. To try to describe the story does - I think - a real disservice. If you truly want to understand what Author Plymel has created, do yourself a favor and just read it - ALL of it. You will NOT be disappointed.

Revenge for the False Hero

Lutz returns to the kingdom where he was brought into this world at the request of the princess. He goes due to their friendship and helps to kill the feinds and imps attacking.
While in the kingdom he joined the gladiators in the coliseum. Nice to play at kicking bad guys behinds!
Eventually he gets into a fight thats been waiting for. He and the King duke it out.

Another fun read!

I'm still enjoying this series and it feels like the author has hit his stride and is comfortable navigating the story. There is a pleasant mix of plot progression, transition scenes smoothed with character banter, and then some pretty good character development too. We get to see the MC's preliminary character arc reach fruition in this volume, yet there's still plenty in store as a core detail of the plot is finally revealed.

This series has been consistent over 6 books now, which is quite the achievement.

Really enjoying this yarn as the plot thickens

From Urban battles to Coliseum matches. Wicked fight promoters put the fix in and even a visit to the assassins guild. The MC and his cohort contonue to use misdirection and the fear of the false hero to prosecute their vision of a better future. Meanwhile, Archmages of chaos do their master's bidding.

Still its pretty strange that the MC's female allies are all OP pre-teens and teens.

Onward to the next dungeon to continue power leveling since Lutz and his crew are not yet strong enough to stand against the upper echelon of the Chaos Lord, including the anti-heros.

One Of My Favorite Series

Lutz gains power, learns more, but has more questions. After buying the Elves some time, Lutz is contacted by the Princess asking for his help to defend the Capital from an army of Chaos. What to do, what to do! If he is recognized as the False Hero, the people will think he is with the invaders and hinder his efforts to save them. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.

Yes it goes without saying that this was a fun book

Show I love the series. And always Sneak ahead on patreon. But That said if you Like the past books you will certainly love this one as well. All of the humor and yet still new things. The world is constantly evolving power is growing Even the MC keeps learning new things about the system but he's working within. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I quit about two thirds through, if you like OP reluctant hero anime then this is perfect for you. The creativity I was hoping for its gone. This has turned the MC into a very generic character. The twists are expected, the character choices are obvious. I stopped just because I was bored. I will not be continuing with the series.

I thought most of the book was OK although I wasn’t too keen on the number of times the author repeated the same incident, but for another characters POV. Also I began to find some of the decisions made by Lutz were becoming a bit weird, the author was obviously trying to keep various storylines going, but they felt a bit contrived, especially the ending.
