Eilidh Munro is the fourth and youngest Munro sister and has caught the eye of the handsome and honorable Laird Iver MacKay. Unfortunately the feeling is not mutual and she feels nothing romantic for Iver. However, the man who holds her interest is from an enemy clan and he is being held captive as a prisoner in the cold dungeon, as her clan’s Laird is non other than her brother-in-law her brother-in-law Niel MacKay and the prisoner’s name is Will Gunn. The Gunn’s and the MacKay’s have been enemies now for eons as their father the former Chieftain, had been a mad sadistic beast who enjoyed torturing others, especially those who were weaker. He got a sick joy and lust by watching others suffer!

Yet now his father is dead and Tavish Gunn runs the clan and things are so much better than with his insane father or his corrupt, evil brother Roy, who was evicted from the Gunn clan. Now the MacKay Chieftain, Niel knows what it is like to be a prisoner spending a decade locked up due to his father’s sickbetrayal. Furthermore, he does treat Will better than most and even visits him and plays board games. Of course Will keeps asking the Laird to release him with no success.

Now Eilidh Munro has secretly fallen in love with the MacKay’s enemy and prisoner-until she soon finds out some information that breaks her heart. So she accepts chieftain Iver MacKay’s offer, but does not feel the thing she did for Will. As she wants a love match like all of her sisters, but she also does not want to see anyone hurt by her selfish motives! Now she wonders what has she done!

Soon Will finds out a way he might be able to get free, but only if his clan will help their enemy. The MacKay’s fight with a common enemy that wants to take the MacKay’s home and lands. Yet will Will be able to convince his brother Tavish, the Laird, to rescue a clan that has been keeping him captive for the past two years and has killed many of their clan members previously? Laird Tavish Gunn only see’s the MacKay’s as an enemy, yet he does not want to become his father either. His brother has put him in an awkward situation but it could also be him and his clan in the exact situation as the MacKay’s! What shall he decide?

Furthermore, Will is filled with jealousy watching Eilidh with her newly betrothed, but it is his fault since he told her to stay away from him and move on with her life. Eilidh still loves Will, but believes he loves another. Do Will and Eilidh even have a chance and what about Iver as you can’t help but feel empathy and sadness for him. Loving a woman who will never feel the same, it is a very big web with many tangles. What will Eilidh do next? Can she ever be truthful and tell a Iver the truth about her feelings for Will? Can Will walk away and let Eilidh move on with her life? It is possible for Will to be honest and tell Eilidh the true facts about his past or will he keep it as a big tormented secret for the rest of his life? Read and find out if this couple has a chance at love!

This is the series finale sadly as I really loved each and every book in the “Courageous Highland Hearts” series. I am looking forward to Jayne Castel’s upcoming series where one of the heroine’s rejected suitors and his brothers are in her upcoming “Enchanted Highland Heart” series. As rejection is not an easy thing to overcome, can’t wait to sink my teeth into this this upcoming series too. As Jayne “Castel is a definite favorite author of mine and one of my go to authors. Her books are always phenomenal, awe-inspiring reads with fascinating characters and story lines that I have grown to love with tales that sweep me away!

Again readers can read this as a stand alone book but I highly recommend all four books in the Courageous Highland Hearts series.

Meh. Eilidh and Will are probably my least favorite couple in this series. There wasn't really anything about either character that made me feel invested in them or their relationship. I don't think either of them even grew or changed over the course of the book. Their flaws I guess just are their flaws and things just happened to work out. If anything, I wanted to read more about Ava. I'm even more excited for the next spin off series about Iver and his brothers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Eilidh Munro has caught Iver MacKays eye, but it isn't him that she wants. She longs for someone she shouldn't long for. She longs for William Gunn, Neil MacKays hostage, who works in the feilds by day and is then locked away in the dungeons beneath the keep every night.

Will Gunn has never understood the power women seem to have over mens hearts. He lives by his terms and his terms only. And right now, all he wants is his freedom and to return home to his kin at Castle Gunn.

Yet despite how he feels Will finds himself distracted by visits from the lovely Eilidh. There is an amazing connection between them that even he can't deny.

Then when the shadow of war falls across the Highlands, and Neil Mackay sets Will free on a promise, Eilidh is elated. Maybe now they can have a future together.

But there are things she doesn't know about Will and when she finds out it may be the end for them.

When Jayne Castel sets her pen to paper you know it's going to be good, but you never know how good. This book was absolutely fantastic. From the minute I started to read until the minute I finished this book I was lost. It felt like I was there in the highlands going through all of the emotions that the characters went though. Ms. Castel writes with such passion and you can feel that as you read. All in all I truly enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what she writes next.

I started reading this book and didn’t stop until the end! I love the Munro sisters. Ms Castel does a wonderful job of making the sisters come to life. Eilidh is refreshingly real, not perfect; a little naive and a bit head-strong. What may have started as curiosity about Will the imprisoned rival klan chiefs brother turns into much more than an attraction. This is a must read!.

Well, this went exactly how I expected and I refuse to waste anymore brain cells on this dumb recklessly naive heroine.

I'll be honest, I had little hope this would turn out to be a good read for me because I she no interest in the youngest sister Eilidh much like I didn't for Jean in her book. I was willing to give it a try and let it prove me wrong. Which it did not.

Will was by far a fascinating character and I regret that he had to be saddled with silly but beautiful Eilidh. He had many facets to his personality and I wish I could have stuck with it for his sake or to even see more from Neave and John later on but alas I refuse. Will did have a lot of potential but as usual I didn't feel like this author would do him justice. It seems to be her "thing" and it's frankly tiresome to hope for more when it's never given.

Which brings me to Eilidh. Silly, naive, foolish Eilidh. Tsk, tsk. What a fool she was. I'm to assume she must have been twenty-two or so by my guess and knowing her sisters ages. Who's to say. But honestly she read like a sixteen year old girl having her first crush on a grown man.

Eilidh for me was very problematic. I did not like her. Not once. Her attitude and behavior grated on me from the very beginning. I understood her need to push back against the restraints her older sister Beth was attempting to put on her. Especially because Beth wasn't her mother and she began resenting her oldest sisters interference. That I could understand tbh. She was attempting to fly on her own now that her sister Jean had married and moved away. Which was a big deal brother and Jean were the closest of them all. They shared everything together but even before Jean married Jean's judgmental attitude and cautious guidance began to chafe Eilidh.

For me this felt a lot like a coming of age story. And I wasn't really a fan of it.

I found Eilidh annoying and foolish. I wanted to shake her or smack her everytime she would reason out some ridiculous idea or feeling to herself.

Nevermore so than when thinking of Will. Because as hard as the author tried to make it so, in the 46% I managed to read of this story there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING between Eilidh or Will. Nada. Zilch! She was infatuated with him from the jump and it only grew from there. He represented danger and a thrill she itched to touch. They barely spoke and she usually saw him as this dirty bedraggled and smelling prisoner. But SOMEHOW she saw through the muck to the man underneath and she just KNEW he was hers! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ The fool actually claimed to be in love with him and yet knew how crazy that sounded when she barely knew the man but you see? Eilidh wasn't logical or reasonable. She was whimsical and silly and full of terrible ideas. She was spoiled and reckless. She was too stubborn for her own good and desperately wanted her sisters to let her find her own way but she didn't give them proof enough that she could get on without their guidance. She needed to grow up.

Honestly I stuck with this as long as I did because I desperately wanted to watch as Eilidh had her dreams crushed when Will is finally forced to admit he's a married man. And I almost cheered it was so fun to read for me. That's just how little I cared for her character. Sorry not sorry! Silly Eilidh felt like she'd been slapped she hadn't expected such news. She never once considered the possibility a man nearly a decade older might have a wife. 😂😂

But what really made me throw in the towel was the extremely predictable and lazy path the author chose regarding Will's wife Allison. Oh, wow! After arriving home the first person he sees is his brother-in-law Keene who angrily informs him his wife Allison is dead! Dead, dead, dead. Died last year after being beat to death by her lover.

😂🤣😭😂🤣😂😭🤣😂🤣

Wow. Way to make it oh so super easy for Will to eventually get his HEA with Eilidh. What a bore!

Especially because the entire time Will leaving and traveling home he explained his unhappy marriage to the reader and took most of the blame for their troubles. He knew he'd been a terrible husband and Allison deserved better. And vowed right there he'd apologize and ask Allison to start fresh. She was his wife after all.

What use was that? Honestly his relationship with Allison sounded more interesting than any kind that might happen with foolish Eilidh. I would have happily read about him and Allison finding their way back together after an awful beginning to their marriage after he'd been imprisoned. Where's that story? It actually sounds interesting!

Meh, anyway. I tried. This is actually the first book I've DNF by this author so I'm a little surprised I couldn't finish it. But my breaking point was Eilidh. She was too immature and silly. I hated her.

I enjoyed this latest book of the Highlander Hearts series very much, as I enjoyed every one of them. But this time there were a couple of things that didn’t completely win me over. First of all, I would have preferred more interaction between the main characters. Even if I loved the battle scenes, they took a great part of the book and I would have liked a longer book where the main characters got to know each other better. Instead they meet in the previous book and at the beginning (and the angstier part in which she declares her love to him is not even on scene!) and then again in the second half of the book and their coming together seemed a bit too hasty. Secondly, Will felt guilty for his late wife at the beginning (even if it wasn’t really his fault), but this didn’t show in his relationship with Eilidh and it’s strange. I was sure he was going to be more restrained in his interactions with Eilidh because of that, but he seemed to forget it entirely after a time. Yes, he was sorry for being impulsive and somewhat uncaring for the feeling of others, but he forgot his guilt too easily, in my opinion.
That said, the book is beautifully written as always, with gorgeous descriptions of battles, landscapes and the life in a medieval Scottish castle. And the characters are always vivid and easy to fall in love with.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The heart wants what it wants.

Jayne Castel has again woven together a 15th century love story that kept me spellbound from the first to the last page. Simply put, I loved Highlander Sworn.
It was well written and had complex characters. The pace was steady, except when there was a fight or battle to be won, then the scenes were heart-stopping. In addition to the action, there were the love scenes, which almost melted my Kindle app.

In this last book of the Courageous Highland Hearts series, Will Gunn and Eilidh (pronounced Ay-lee) Munro are young and to some degree a bit spoiled. Both are the youngest off-spring of clan-chiefs and both have always had what they wanted. That is until Will is taken prisoner and has spent the last two years in a dungeon, when not working in the fields, and Eilidh has come to realize that she may never have the life she desires. As life throws twists and turns at them, they must each decide whether to fight or flee in defeat. Which path will they each take?

As with other books by Ms. Castel, the brutality of the times is in full view, but the real story is about the lead characters and how they achieve the future the want for themselves.

Content 411: In addition to some regional and period swearing, there are also a couple of explicit sex scenes and some battlefield and brawling violence.

Disclosure: I received a complementary copy of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

Battles, Promises, Romance:
In this captivating last book of Courageous Highland Hearts series, we meet Eilidh a lonely lady who has a lovely soul. She is totally fascinated with the prisoner William Gunn who makes her blood sing with excitement as she sees him in the fields that he labors in daily.
A near death drowning brings the two together as friends. Can there be more to their relationship? Eilidh would hope so, but Will has a confession that will change everything.
The story takes us through clan battles, promises, heartbreaks, passion and desire like no other.
This is an all-compelling story that captured my heart and had me glued to each page. The authors writing had me feeling like I was actually there in the daily grind of the clans' lives watching the people and how the characters cared about each other and made friends.
This is a story that made my heart feel good at the end and I look forward to the next series Enchanted Highland Hearts that will include some of the characters we met in this story.

Highlander Sworn is the 4th book in the Courageous Highland Hearts Series by Jayne Castel. Will and Eilidh’s story is a great conclusion for this series. This book has everything a reader would want from a Scottish historical romance: suspense, a battle, friendship and romance.

Jayne Castel has a way of bringing her characters alive and jump off the page. As a reader I feel as if I am in Medieval Scotland. She does through vocabulary and great descriptive paragraphs.

If you like Medieval Scottish HEA books, you will love this new addition to Jayne Castel’s reading list.

I was sad with Iver’s circumstances. So, I am thrilled that he has his own book “The Laird is Mine” which is due out in May 2023.

This book had a nice, slow-burn romance between the two leads and I really enjoyed reading it. It was a pageturner filled with interesting twists. Despite that I've developed second-lead syndrome, I understand why our two leads ended up with and deserved each other. Will needed someone who saw the good and believed in him. At the same time, he understood his mistakes and wanted to do better. The parallels between him and Niel was also interesting to read about. I liked that Eilidh was able to carve her own path and grow from her experiences. It was heartbreaking for her the first time around but I wish she had spoken up sooner so she wouldn't have given someone else such heartbreak either. I can't wait for the next series and how the second lead gets his happy ending.

The last in Jayne's Courageous Hearts series and what a fitting end, it was lovely to see all the characters from the last 3 books and those of the previous Stolen Hearts series, and yet not detracting from the main characters of this story ... that of
Will Gunn and Eilidh Munro.

Eilidh is the sister by marriage to Laird Neil Mackay the Chieftain of the Clan MacKay and the youngest of the Munro sisters.
Eilidh has caught the eye of a MacKay chieftain, but her heart belongs to another , that of Will Gunn.....
An Impossible love, as Will is the hostage of Neil MacKay.
Whose only thought is to be free , but he cannot help but be drawn to the lovely young Eilidh, even knowing nothing can come of it
This a cracking story of Clan feuds , jealousy, war and ultimately love and a happy ending
Thank you Jayne for your wonderful storytelling ..

This is the fourth book in a series by Jayne Castel, it's about the youngest sister Eilidh Munro and Will Gunn! Will is a prisoner that the clan chief Niel MacKay took from the last battle between the MacKay and Gunn clans. I would advise to read the previous books first to understand how each person in this book is related! Eilidh has taken a fascinating with Will during the years she has seen him working in the fields, I enjoyed how the love between them developed, with Eilidh seeing the good in Will, the story plot was amazing, loved the suspence couldn't turn the pages fast enough, sorry this is the last book in this series. Happy the clans helped each other out when it came to war battles, the passion was wonderfully written. I received my book as a ARC and honestly can say enjoyed the story very much, and would recommend reading it.

A brilliant conclusion to this epic series. Will Gunn is held prisoner in an underground dungeon by Niel Mackay as a way of preventing the Gunn clan starting a war. However, Niel himself was incarcerated and over time his stance softens towards Will and he develops a sort of friendship even allowing him to work outside in the fields. Eilidh is the youngest of 4 sisters who watches Will working and finds herself developing feelings for the enigmatic prisoner. War looms, alliances are built and tested, family feuds erupt and hard choices need to be made. A brilliant story which completes a fabulous series.

This is the last book in this series, I have read them all. It probably could be read by itself but works better if you read the others. First, I really like this author's books. This one was equally good as the others.
The blurb explains the books so I will just say what I thought of it.
Highlander Sworn was full of angst, drama and some action. It was a slow burn, so not a lot of steam at first.
The ending wraps up the series well. I am wanting to read Iver's story, since I felt bad for him. That will be another series I believe. All in all, another good read from Jayne Castel. I recommend it to all historical romance readers.

And so the last Munro sister weds. William Gunn has been a prisoner of the Mackays now for close to two years, and there is just something about him that draws Eilidh to him, which is rather inconvenient as he is certainly not considered a suitable match for her. This story has so much going on, and it has the tall order of wrapping up the series, which it does nicely. It is just one thing after another. You will find bravery, unlikely alliances, a mishap or two, unexpected deaths, heartache and the kind of love we can only dream about. Once again I was drawn in by this masterful storyteller, held spellbound as she wove a tale so captivating that I just could not put it down.

Attracted to the bad boy.

I loved this book as much as the others in the series. Will is a prisoner of the MacKay. He was taken and being held to keep peace between the MacKays and the Gunns. Eilidh is the youngest sister is the the MacKays wife and the only one who has not wed. She is attracted to the Will from the beginning. He is handsome, dangerous and forbidden which adds to the draw. Eilidh is beautiful and Will is drawn to her as well. Yet there is a young handsome laird who is offering for her that complicates the issue. Their story brings complications, attraction, Clan enemies, competition, a brother bent on revenge, the hope of peace, and love. Great story.

I have wanted to read Will and Eilidh's story since they first noticed one another. This story was perfect for them. It was nice to get glimpses of the Eilidh's sisters and their husband's as well. Niel Mackay will always be a favorite of mine but Will is too now as are the other men in this story are definitely on the list. This book can be read alone, but I highly recommend the series and also the Stolen Highland Hearts series that takes place before this one. I have read a majority of Jayne's books and have not been disappointed. Her talent amazes me.

This is part of the Highland Hearts series following 4 sisters. The books can be read as standalone, but the previous stories are referenced in this installment.

Eilidh is the youngest in her family and the only one unwed. Her eldest sister tries to encourage her to find a suitor, but Eilidh only has eyes for Will, whose clan is at odds with hers. He is not free to go back to his home and instead works in the fields Eilidh's family does not approve of her feelings and this causes tension. Is there any way for them to have a future together?.

Eilidh and Will's story was so fun! A forbidden romance is always great to read, but the sheer hatred between the Mackays and the Gunns makes it so much more thrilling. I really loved getting to see these two clans learn to overcome their differences, and I also loved the character development of Will from when he first appeared back in Alex and Jaime's book. The introduction to Iver Mackay in this book also makes me very excited for Jayne's next series.
Another great installment in this series -- John and Neave's book is hard to beat, but this one comes close!.

This is the last book of Courageous Highland Hearts series

Eilidh is the youngest of 4 sisters. She wants to find love like her older sisters.
She has a crush on William Gunn who is a prisoner. The Gunn’s and the Mackay’s could never be friends – or could they?

This is an emotional, dramatic and romantic tale that includes betrayal, action, intrigue and romance.

I have really enjoyed each of the books in this series.

I’ve been reading this authors books for years and I’m always excited when I get a new book from them. If you enjoy this series please check out their other series you won’t be disappointed. This fantastic book will immediately grab you and keep you interested throughout. Eilidh didn’t care what others thought, she did what she thought was best, and that included who she cared for. The riveting plot will take you back in time to be with the characters and all they endure. I loved how Eilidh’s brother by marriage treated others especially Will. The descriptions throughout bring this book to life, I didn’t want it to end.

Ahh I'm so sorry. I usually LOVE Jayne Castel books but this one just didn't click with me. The h and H spend very little time together - she's in the solar with her sisters or mooching about at the mill, and he's either hanging with Niel or training... and every once in a while they will look at each other, maybe exchange a quick word. I struggled to feel a connection here, and the romance was very shallow and undeveloped.

You know what would have been amazing though? A romance between Will and Niel! Phwooor!

Another winning tale of highland battles and love won!

Jayne Castel weaves a story full of pace and emotional ups and downs for her two main characters, and their families; you can’t but help be drawn into the sheer drama of the Scottish highlands and the lifestyle of those from long ago. They wanted the same thing then as we desire now, too; a strong mate beside us, one who’ll love and protect, someone to make yer heart beat a little bit faster and to build a happy life with, and someone we can always trust to be there, for us.

You get it all with Highlander Sworn!

This is the fourth book in the series, which follows four sisters. This is the story of the youngest sister who has fallen in love with the prisoner of her brother-in-law and a rival clan. I truly enjoyed reading Eilidh and Will’s story. I enjoyed the courage Eilidh exhibited in following her heart. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading Historical Romance set in the Scotland Highlands. Jayne truly knows how to bring her characters to life.

Highlander Sworn was a quick read for the last book in this series. Full of action, love, allegiances, friendships, misunderstandings….second chances and forgiveness. This story had a little bit of all the characters of the previous books but really belonged to Will and Eilidh and their perseverance of the heart. I do recommend this series. Another great novel by Jayne Castel.
