About the author

Josephine Cox was born in Blackburn, one of ten children. At the age of sixteen, Josephine met and married her husband Ken, and had two sons. When the boys started school, she decided to go to college and eventually gained a place at university but was unable to take this up as it would have meant living away from home. Instead, she went into teaching – and started to write her first full-length novel. She won the ‘Superwoman of Great Britain’ Award, for which her family had secretly entered her, at the same time as her novel was accepted for publication. She is now a No.1 bestselling author with over 40 books to her name.

She wrote dark psychological thrillers under the name Jane Brindle.

Never a dull moment.
A handful of twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end.
Had me engrossed from the get go.

I so enjoyed this book. Got frustrated sometimes with the storyline as if only certain people spoke up then lives would have been so much better, but then of cause the book would have been much shorter. Also similar stories and plots to other JC books.

Good read

I loved this book, it had a bit of everything in it. We have Beth so cruelly treated by her mother, her father a quiet man very dominated by his wife but he loved his daughter so much. Her brother Ben, turns into a nasty drunkard and a gambler. Beth's love Tyler Blackstock is so cruelly treated their story is heartbreaking. I couldn't put it down the author's work grabbed me and had me routing for the poor young couple. I would highly recommend this book to all. Heartwarming story

It's frustrating!

I wanted to stop reading this because I didn't like where it was going, trying to break up Tyler and Beth, well enough already. Esther the mother, Ben the brother, co-workers, the land lady's daughter, all scheming, lying and backstabbing, was getting on my nerves. I guess I get too involved in the main characters of a good read, first time reading this author, will try another book & see how it goes lol!

The story line is good but it is way too long and predictable.
Beth and Tyler are from vastly different backgrounds, but fall in love and she becomes pregnant.
Her parents throw her out and Beth's mother blackens Tyler's reputation to prevent him from locally getting work.
He leaves to find work, but promises to return for Beth.

Touches every emotion

I love Josephine Cox’s books. She takes you through every emotion known to man, every heartbreak and betrayal. When everything is dark and it seems as though nothing can put it right there is an inkling of light at the end of the tunnel.

Usually a real page turner that I struggle to put down, this book was not the same. Too much description for me with characters not speaking up.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Such sadness and desperately reading to see if Beth finds her man. A very good read, looked forward to picking up my book. Sad that's it's finished, was a bit disappointed with the ending, didnt seem to be enough of it but it was a happy ending.
