Mortician Murders #2

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Rate this book
Nothing says romance like his and hers caskets.

Imogene Lynch has decorated the chapel for Greener Pastures’ first wedding-funeral, but on the morning of the big event, one casket is empty. Has the bride gotten cold feet? Or has someone absconded with her?

The spirits aren’t talking, but they are making Imogene’s life a misery. When the police suspect the mortuary’s head embalmer of stealing the corpse to sell on the black market, she and El realize it’s up to them to find the missing body.

Their search leads to a berserker Viking cult, obnoxious frat boys, and a pirate bar, among other dangers. But Imogene and El are determined to reunite the deceased couple, or die trying.

If you can imagine Agatha Raisin as a twenty-something, rockabilly ex-hairdresser with a weird connection to the dead, this book is for you.

This was such a delight. i am loving these cozy mysteries, murders with a dash of paranormal and a splash of romance.

It's just fun and I love the romance. It's obvious he fell first and she's been a bit clueless... but at the end, the romance progresses and it's going to be fun to see them together in the next book. El really is the best sweet himbo.

They have an unusual service at the funeral home, a wedding of the 2 deceased. It's part of some different religious belief. Just before it is supposed to start the bride goes missing. Who would steal the body of the bride?

The MC works at the funeral home as the hair and makeup artist. She along with the security guy who happens to be a good friend decide to investigate to find out who and why the bride's body was taken.

I enjoyed this mystery very much and am looking forward to the next in the series.

A wedding! And a funeral! And the significant participants at both ceremonies are the same! And dead! Imogene Lynch is hurled into a mysterious cultlike world that believes the afterlife will only be pleasurable if the entrant is married. When the bride's corpse is stolen, it's up to Imogene and El to find the body to clear their friend and allow the creation of eternal bliss.

This was a RIDE! Greta Boris has woven a world that is convincingly plausibly implausible. Or is it? Imogene lives in a state of existence that even a hardened sceptic might be partially persuaded exists.

The characters of Imogene, El, Amy and everyone else are spot on, as always. Each persona is well written and unique. They are memorable and the reader's friendship strengthens from book to book.

An outstanding paranormal cosy! Heartily recommended.

Thank you as always to Greta Boris for the chance to read this e-ARC. My opinions are my own, honest and true.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

Each one of The Mortician Murders by Greta Boris just keep getting better. The latest adventures of Imogene Lynch and Elmore “El” Leonard Brown in Hair Today Gone Tomorrow will keep you reading and trying to determine what will happen next. In most cases your guesses will be wrong. There is so much happening from wedding funerals to missing corpses to Norse mythology. Quite a combination. But Greta asks some interesting questions with this story to make you really think about your beliefs of life and death. Of course there is humor, mystery, action and romance woven throughout.
I throughly enjoy Greta’s descriptions of the scenes and character development. Imogene learns so much about herself and her emotions in this story. It will be interesting to see where this will lead as the series continues. It is best to read these in order to get all of the details, but if this is not possible, be sure to read this one. You will definitely enjoy it. I am looking forward to Imogene’s next adventure.

Disappointed

I gave this 4 stars, because the writing is good. Still disappointed about the lack of paranormal scenes. This marketed as a paranormal series, but its more of an armature detective series. I'm to believe that Imogene suddenly has this "gift" and eight months go by she's followed by spirits? How does she have this "gift" when she's NEVER felt or sensed spirits before? I felt the "paranormal" senses were forced to make the reader believe its a paranormal book. What I don't understand is its been eight months since the first book, but Gran and Phil have been married for a year? That doesn't math right. What also gets me is how Imogene and El just assume that these spirits want them to investigate their deaths. There was no reason to constantly put Amy Lee's name. Just calling her Amy a few times would've been fine. I felt like this romance between El and Imogene was forced too. I saw that the people who stole Karin's body took away from the book. There was no reason for the body to be stolen and the ending was dragged on for too long. There was still no Mortician. Amy was described as the head embalmer, not a Mortician.

Another hair-raising adventure…

Imogene and El are swept up in another hair-raising adventure when the body of a woman goes missing just hours before her big wedding-funeral ceremony. The woman’s family members are understandably distraught, the police are baffled, and the reputation of the mortuary that employs Imogene and El is at stake. Greta Boris has managed, once again, to spin a delightful tale of mystery and intrigue involving wonderfully original and unique characters that kept me enthralled from the first page to the last. If you enjoy a good mystery with plentiful twists and turns, likeable characters with dimension and substance, a palpable sense of danger and a satisfying resolution, this story should check all the right boxes. Where else will you find murder, missing corpses, Vikings, and swing dance in one story? I am looking forward to seeing where the author will take Imogene and El next.

I was provided with an advance copy of this book, for which I thank the author, but I am sharing my honest and unbiased review on a completely voluntary basis.

Body snatched from mortuary leads to deeper relationships - 4 stars

"Hair Today" crosses many classifications including murder, cozy mystery, romance, intrigue, spying, and spelunking.

An automobile crash puts an engaged couple's marriage on ice. The sect that they had been involved with requested that both the marriage and the funeral be combined. Dancing at a dance hall bar, interleaved with the lives of elderly people complete the wide basis of the story. You might want to make sure that you have a working flashlight when you read this book.

Relationships that started in the author's first mortician murder "To Dye For" are expanded - a good but not necessary prequel to this story. Imogene, the mortician's assistant, talks with the dead who can communicate only with her. Imogene's boyfriend (El) also works at the Greener Pastures Mortuary, leading to imagined frightening walks in the graveyard. Imogene narrates her story in the first person.

A garden of puns is just beneath the surface. Have fun with this light adventure.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow, the second novel in the Mortician Murder series, is quite the read. Ex hair stylist Imogene Lynch has prepared Sven and Karin for their upcoming wedding/funeral. The recently deceased are part of a Viking cult. Unfortunately, someone has taken the bride and Imogene will have to use her gift to try to find Karin so that the nuptials can resume. As she and dear friend and security guard El delve into this mystery, they will uncover more then they would care to know about the cult and its followers. I loved the characters in this well-written whodunit. The interaction between Imogene and El makes for good reading. The storyline is great in this paranormal mystery, and I do look forward to seeing how the series progresses. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The story of hair stylist turned mortuary assistant, Imogene Lynch, continues with the second installment of Mortician Murders by Greta Boris. This time around, Imogene has settled into her new apartment and her new role working solely with non-living clients. Some time has passed since the first book, and now she is attending mortuary school while working at Greener Pastures. When the body of a young woman disappears right before her Viking-style wedding/funeral, Imogene teams up with hunky security guard El to find the missing corpse. As they delve into a whole other world of unusual Viking traditions, the hunt for a missing body turns into a hunt for a ruthless killer that will keep you turning the pages.

Be prepared for a wild, weird and oddly wonderful read!! I think the authors creative story line gets better and better with each book. We begin with a corpse couple on the verge of getting married during their own funeral!!!!! The plot is packed with even more intriguing topics including heathenism (it’s a real religion!) and some Viking lore, world burial customs information which the main character Imogene learned in class, more mortuary humor, and the continued development of Imogene’s psychic ability. Viewing thoughts and musings from Imogene’s first person standpoint continues to fascinate.
Lastly, not to worry, the storyline is not all
cerebral - there is definitely unexpected action which I won’t spoil your reading experience by sharing here - you’ll just have to read the book!

Sven and Karin were to be married when they were both killed in a car accident. But according to Viking law, they can't be reunited unless they are married before their funeral. So Imogene prepares Greener Pastures for a Wedding/funeral, much to the chagrin of Karin's parents, she finds the bride's casket empty. Where did Karin go? Who could have taken her? With the mortuary's lead embalmer being suspect number one, Imogene and El know it is up to them to find the bride and solve the mystery. We are also treated to the sub theme of Imogene's and El's friendship. This was such a fun read involving so many different threads that are so deftly sewn together by the author in the end. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here ate strictly my own.

I have been on Ms Boris review team for awhile. I enjoyed her Deadly Sins books, but I love the Mortuary School series. The characters are quirky and wonderful. Imogen, a former beautician turned mortuary assistant, considers making up the dead for their last appearance to be a service she does for the family. she has a "gift" that allows her to sense the feelings of the deceased when she touches their hair. This time a bride's corpse is stolen at her wedding/funeral. She and El, the mortuary security guard studying to be a detective get into all kinds of trouble trying to find the corpse. Add in a Viking/Heathenist cult to this already quirky series and you have the makings of a great fun novel. I look forward to reading of the further adventures of Imogene and El.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Trainee mortician Imogene Price has a supernatural 'gift' - she gets a shocking impression (if she touches the deceased person's hair) - of their emotions at their time of death and it lingers on her mind.

When she's working on a double post-mortem wedding, consecutive encounters a 'deadnapped' corpse bride, her kidnapped partner, El(more), a Viking cult with a maniacal leader, and Valkyrie-like hangers-on and much more, leave her wondering if her HEA will ever arrive.

Fantastic story. There is a wedding/funeral at the funeral home. Imogene has done her part to get the bride and groom ready. But somebody has stolen the bride! Now Imogene and El are out to solve the missing bride. There is plenty of story while Imogene and El try to track down clues. Gran and Phil are having issues and Imogene's ex wants her to dance in another competition. Plus there is the heathenistic group members. How are they involved? And what about the bride's ex-boyfriend? The parents just want their daughters body back to have a proper burial. And Amy from the mortuary is suspect. All of the threads and pulled together in a nice story wrap up. Enjoy.

Immogen's hairdressing skills and empathy with the dead lead her into another 'Who Done It' mystery involving a Heathonist group. Lots of interesting places visited involving jealousy, clues and other emotional highs. Enjoy yourself in Death Valley, the danceathon, the Rusty Scupper and the Warriors Way. There's also a disappearing corpse, a couple of murders and an attempted murder to keep the reader happy.
Am I too vague? Possibly so, read the book and enjoy the new developments in her work and personal life. An easy read book with which to while away the hours.

I got an ARC copy but this is my honest opinion. Nobody paid me to write it but I live in hope!

Another cozy mystery for the wonderful pairing of Imogene and El

I love how the author has developed the characters in this installment of a rather charming series. Imogene is exploring her connection to the dead bodies in her care, and El isn't just an all American guy, desperate to get into law enforcement.

There was definitely more substance to the story line this time around. Greta Boris can certainly maintain the suspense and weave an intricate story to hold the readers attention.

I loved the "will they/won't they" relationship between Imogene and El.

I received this as an ARC from the author and am submitting an honest review.

An engaged couple die in a car crash; members of the Viking cult they belonged to insist they be married and buried in the same ceremony. Imogene has the chapel ready, but the bride’s body has disappeared overnight. Imogene and her boyfriend “El” take it on themselves to find the body, leading them on a scary adventure with many twists and turns. Ms. Boris is a great story-teller, using a tongue-in-cheek approach, with determined, if not experienced, characters, playing situations by ear, getting into deadly, yet also funny, situations. This is a very easy read and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I’m eager to read the rest of this series.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: A Ghostly Mortician Murder Mystery (The Mortician Murders Book 2), my tenth read from author Greta Boris. After reading Mortuary School: A Mortician Mystery and To Dye For: A Paranormal Mortician Murder Mystery (The Mortician Murders Book 1) I knew I had to read more from her and this read did not disappoint. “I received a courtesy Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author with Bald-Headed Lies: A Supernatural Mortician Murder Mystery (The Mortician Murders Book 3) high on my TBR list. I love this series.  It is light easy reading with loveable characters,  and a good mystery.

Each book can be read as a stand alone so don't worry if you didn't start at the beginning.

This one starts off very interesting. There is to be a wedding and a funeral, or more precisely a wedding at the funeral.  As you can guess,  things won't  go according to plan. Imogene and El get caught up in another hair raising (pun intended) adventure.   There are lots of twists and turns and even Vikings in this mystery.

I can't wait for their next adventure.

Wow, Boris really outdid herself on this, the second book in the series! Imogene is putting finishing touches on the room for the wedding/funeral ( a strange cult thing) when she discovers the body of the bride missing. Finding answers leads El and Imogene on a wild and crazy adventure, including many surprises and twists that you won’t see coming! Investigating the heathenism Viking cult gets El in a very strange situation and the last few chapters will keep you on the edge of your seat! I received a free copy of this book from the author and write this review voluntarily.

Wow. What a twisted, mixed up cult the Heathenists were. This was a fun story to read, especially with all the Viking weirdness. I am glad the Imogene and El figured out their friendship. Now Chad needs to go away, he is such a creep. This was a very exciting story and mystery! I can’t wait for the next one!

Ever since I read the first in this new series I've been counting the days to publication of this second book. Imogen and El already feel like old friends to me and Greta Boris is able to sustain suspense and tension, and credibility, in a plot which once again transcends the veil between life and death. An absolute pleasure to read.

a stolen dead bride

Who can take a stolen dead bride seriously?! Then there is the new mortician who wants to turn the whole situation into a broadway musical. Can Imogene and El find the bride, unite her with her groom, bury them in time and keep themselves from turning up dead also?! Oh, and when is a kiss not a kiss - when it’s a really bad idea.
