I really enjoyed this story, it was suspenseful, dark(yet not too depressing), and at times had some comedic relief lol I liked how Theo didn’t just allow her actions to be led by her lust, like many FMC. The background between the FMC and MC, kept the story from feeling like insta love.
Mild spoilers…
I will say that when authors don’t fully address the uniqueness of womanhood in certain situations it makes the reality of certain circumstances less plausible. Yes I know it’s fiction, but since it’s not fantasy, you should be able to picture these things happening in real life. Like how can a woman be sent to a prison full of men and not once is it mentioned what happens when she is on her period? Like do I need details, no, but tell me something. Is she so stressed and anorexic that she doesn’t get them now, does she secretly have some kind of implant or IUD? Which brings me to my next pet peeve, lots of unprotected sex, yet no concerns for the risk of pregnancy? No discussion of prevention?
Also the beginning there was discussion about how the burns hadn’t caused nerve damage, just left scars. This was confusing as scars occur as a result of healing, so when this was mentioned I thought it was a time jump, only for her to follow up saying it all happened only a few hours ago. She later mentioned her healing wounds, which made sense, but to call a fresh burn a “scar” implies it’s old and healed already, versus saying that it’s “going to leave scars.” So I had to read this passage over to figure out if there was a time jump or not.
I will say the ending kinda concluded fast and didn’t totally make sense. I would have liked to know more on how the prison makes money since some are criminals that I’m sure their families wouldn’t pay anything for, on top of the fact that they don’t do any kind of work that would earn the prison money either. Overall, really enjoyed the book and I binge read it, so that tells you it flowed very well.
Look forward to other books by this author
