I want her more than my next breath, but she can never be mine.

A year ago, I met her the first time. The fair-haired beauty at the flower shop. The mysterious woman that watched me from the window and sparked my artistic muse. I didn’t learn her name then, but she was always there. In the periphery. Until I had to say goodbye.

Out with a friend a year later, I spot her in the crowd and can’t take my eyes off her. Though I should stay away from her, I find every possible way to see her. To spend time with her.

I shouldn’t want Shelly Reed. Shouldn’t lead her to believe we will ever be more than friends. The more I push her away, the more she lures me in. With her radiant smile and affectionate heart, Shelly gives me new life, purpose, and captures my soul.

I should let her go, but am too selfish to do so. I need her. More than my next breath.

Once again, I find myself sucked it by this author's amazing writing. She has the special ability to bring out the emotions in the characters, thus making you feel every little thing. Every hurt, every hope, the longing, the falling, everything is magnified and so real.
Shelly and Devlyn were something else. Couple after couple have been showcased in this series, but there is just something special about this one. Nothing is rushed and both hide their emotions well, but also wear them on their sleeves in a sense.
I loved how raw and organic the story has been.

Devlyn is an artist, complex in everything and has a past that has shaped his future and literally made him who he is today. He doesn't allow just anyone close to him, let alone his heart.
Shelly is the bestest friend anyone could ask for. She is always there to listen and lend a shoulder when needed. She's always there for everyone but is yearning for the love that she knows is out there for her. Seeing her friends "the one" over and over has her yearning for her very own love story. She continues to drown herself in making bouquets and helping others make their moments special

The two have crossed paths before, but now he is hired to do even more artwork at the floral shop. She'll never not see him. She will steal glances any moment she can... to see the man who has intrigued her from the start. Curious to find out what makes him tick. What allows him to make such jaw dropping art. She also isn't far from his mind, his talent, his art. If she only knew...
Little by little, a friendship sparks up. It feels too right, too kismet. Taking it slow and building the foundation.

That end though... ugh! I can't wait to see what happens next in their one of a kind story!

In Blank Canvas, Persephone Autumn introduces us to the heartbroken soul of Devlyn the artist. This sensitive soul has a world of hurt bottled up within him due to a tortured history. When he is commissioned to paint a mural at a local flower shop he spots Shelly and his world is never the same.

Persephone delivers a flawless slow-burn romance that pairs two souls struggling to overcome their hurts, real and imagined. Persephone builds the tension, the heat, and the passion with such delicate care that it will leave you breathless as you swipe to the next page, and the next, and the next. This masterfully build will have you wanting to rush ahead but will be so pleased that you didn't. This is a love story that deserves the nurturing treatment it receives as you get to bask in the little moments. The first date, the first kiss, the construction of a foundation of a relationship that is being built for the distance. This novel contains dozens of special heartfelt moments that will leave you smiling and cradling your kindle.

Blank Canvas is Book One in a duet and it ends with a twisty climax that will have you counting down book 2. No spoilers but it is enough to rock the very foundation Shelly and Devlyn has been building.

I’ve never read any of the previous books but didn’t feel I missed out much. So this can be read as a stand-alone. But wow the emotional rollercoaster this takes you on is wild! My heart tugged with every word and I was left breathless at the end. Another great romance to read!

Blank Canvas is book one in the Artist Duet and part seven of the Bay Area Duet Series by Persephone Autumn. A really emotional and heart wrenching love story between Devlyn Templar and Shelly Reed. Their journey isn’t any easy one and I found the cliffhanger ending very emotive because by then I was fully invested in their relationship. I think it will leave you questioning things and maybe taking sides ready for #2 Abstract Passion. If you thought Persephone’s previous couples went through turmoil and angst to get to their happy ever after, it is nothing compared to what this couple go through.

What can I say about Devlyn apart from OMG he is so sweet - all I wanted to do was cuddle him for hours while reassuring him that everything was going to be alright. Devlyn is a complex young guy who experienced a heart breaking event on the night of his High School graduation. This hurt and pain has shaped and affected his life ever since. He is an artist who puts his heart and soul into his paintings and drawings. Shelly is a florist working for her best friend’s mother and is excited about buying the store in the near future. She is a very supportive best friend and sister, with a close knit group of friends but she is slowly becoming envious of the love her friends have found. She dreams of ‘the one’ and is waiting patiently for him to appear in her life.

A year ago Devlyn was hired to paint a mural outside the store. They had both surreptitiously watched each other but neither found the courage to start a conversation. Both denied the attraction at the time but when he is commissioned to paint another mural it looks like they have a second chance of getting to know each other. Shelly is intrigued by his quiet intensity and how he gets so engrossed when painting. Their curiosity about the other leads to a tentative friendship. I loved their subtle glances at each other throughout the day and his excuses to see and talk to her.

This is a slow burn journey because they needed to go carefully. I felt I was with them every step of the way as they try to cope with their conflicting emotions and what being in a relationship means to them both. They are both naive in how relationships work so have to work through everything. What I also liked about this couple is they are both relatively innocent so all that happens they are experiencing together. Devlyn had vowed to himself that he was never letting anyone in again because the agony and pain he had gone through, wasn’t worth it. His trust was shattered and it doesn’t help that his mother is narcissistic. However, it doesn’t matter how often he tries to convince himself they can stay in the friends zone, fate has other ideas for them.

Enjoy this beautifully written story. You will literally feel everything these characters are feeling and what they go through. I loved the connection they developed and how Shelly started to understand Devlyn. I hope she can continue to be patient with him and give him time to process the different stages of the relationship. Will he finally give in and take a chance with Shelly?
It was lovely catching up with all the other couples from the previous duets and seeing how their lives are changing. The way they all support one another is amazing and testament to their friendship. Their scenes in this book really brings all their stories together, giving the reader a fantastic conclusion to the series. We’ve just got to survive the last book now !!
Even if you haven't read the other duets - read this and be prepared to fall in love with Devlyn.

Tropes: MW, reverse age gap, friends to lovers, angsty, slow burn, sweet and patient heroine, tortured hero with a big heart, surprise trope at the end
Series: The Artist Duet #1

⚠️Check triggers ⚠️

After Devlyn's heart was broken, he made a vow to never get close to anyone again. Until he meets Shelly Reed. Devlyn can't deny the pull he has to her, so much so that she is his muse for over a year. When they see each other again, he decides they can be friends. Shelly enjoys her life and the people in it but feels a little stuck as she watches her friends find their person and have kids. She's not sure she even wants kids, but she wants to find love. When Devlyn comes back into her life, her crush is reignited. When he asks if they can be friends, she agrees, and they both find out how hard it is to be "just friends".

I have complicated feelings about this book. I enjoyed it up until the end. I like the surprise trope but didn't like how it was done in this book. I just don't agree with that trope being their conflict. I would've understood if that surprise trope was related to his ex and he found out years later. That would complicate things for all parties. Devlyn never gave Shelly a clear answer that would indicate he'd be upset with what she shared. She took her fears, which I get, projected them onto him, and made a decision that would hurt them both. It was so out of character for her and it just feels weird. I'm going to read part two because I'm invested, but I'm hoping for some redemption.

Thank you to Persephone and Wildfire Marketing for the early copy in exchange for an honest review!

This first book of her newest Artist Duet will have you hooked from the start.

This is the beginning of the story of Shelly and Devlyn. An artist and his muse.

I love the reverse age gap story! It's refreshing to see.

Shelly is quiet and empathic; she is waiting for her right one, her soul mate, and seeing all of her friends getting their happily ever afters is discouraging, but she loves them and wants nothing but their happiness. But what of her own?

Enter Devlyn, a young artist with an old soul. When he sees Shelly, he cannot un-see her. But scars from his past refuse to let him truly be more for Shelly or himself.

A burgeoning friendship develops between Shelly and Devlyn. Then it's lovely to see how it blooms into more.

This story is rich with description. Feelings and art and the bleeding of souls are written in such a beautiful and vivid way.

This story ends with a cliffhanger you won't see coming! I can't wait to see what the second story brings!

This was a slow burn and I'm totally here for it. Every. Freakin'. Moment.

Once again, I find myself sucked into Persephone's amazing characters and this gang is so much fun to hang out with - even though each story is equally emotional.
Let's just say Persephone has a way of bringing each of her characters to life on the page.

Persephone's ability to bring out the emotions in her characters leaves you feeling everything. Every painful moment, every sliver of hope, every longing look and the moment they start to fall in love. It's all so raw and real.

I've been waiting for Shelly's story and her and Devlyn delivered.
Each couple showcased in this series was special in their own way but there was just something special about these two.

Maybe it was the angst. Because let me tell you. I felt it.
That end though... ugh!

This is book 1 in the Bay Area Duet. Oh my Gosh, what an emotional, heartfelt , slow burn romance! Devlyn is emotionally broken and has sworn off relationships after his high school gf broke his heart 4 years ago. Shelly is patiently waiting for her happily ever after. When Devlyn is hired to paint at the floral shop she works at, they start out as friends, but easily feel a very deep connection to one another. This book takes you on a bumpy and emotional ride. I so badly wanted to shake Devlyn and yell at him to just give in to his feelings. The ending cliffhanger has me still reeling for book 2!
Devlyn’s character development was incredible. There was so much emotional growth with him. The characters have so much chemistry you could feel it! This one was a very slow burn story, with a ton of angst and my heart felt every single bit of it. I’m so so excited to read the conclusion to this heartfelt love story. Simply amazing!!

Persephone Autumn has a way of bringing out all the emotions in their writing and making the characters hurt and pain so real.

Devlyn and Shelly are a lovely couple but there are definitely times throughout this book where I wanted to shout at both of them.

Devlyn has had his heartbroken and doesn't let anyone get close to him. He's such a complex man.

Shelly is the person that is always there for her friends. She's seen them fall in love and is waiting for it to be her turn to find 'the one'.

This is a slow-burn romance, building the friendship between Devlyn and Shelly as well as the tension and angst.

The cliffhanger is a tough one, I was left heartbroken by it. I can't wait to read the second book to see where things go from here

Always the friend there for everyone in need, happy with her life, friendships, job, and life in general. As Shelly watches her friends and loved ones fall in love she wonders when will she find the one?
Devlyn has been scarred by his past he's not going to let it happen again. But Shelly has somehow gotten under his skin. While they attempt to keep things friendly they quickly discover friendship isn't going to be enough.
Can either of their tender hearts handle the tests yet to block their path or will they give up before even trying to cross together and discover they're stronger than they think.

If you have read any of the books in this series you will know how amazing it is but you will also know just how talented Persephone Autumn is as an author. I have loved each and every book and Devlyn and Shelly’s story was just as brilliant. An emotional roller coaster ride that had me biting my nails with anticipation for what was to come for these characters and that ending has left me on tenterhooks for the part two of their story. Highly recommend these books and any book that Ms Autumn writes as you will not be disappointed. Most definitely a five star read!

Blank Canvas, the first book in the duet of Devlyn & Shelly, definitely set my emotions on a rollercoaster ride! The author knows how to make the feelings of the characters come to life on the pages and pull me in. I lost myself in reading this book and couldn’t put it down.

I love the reverse age gap, and in some situations you could feel their age. Devlyn was very hesitant in dating after having been hurt in the past, and Shelly knew what she wanted, but insecurities and mixed messages kept her at arms length. Both were completely drawn to each other like moths to a flame, and no matter how hard Devlyn tried he couldn’t stay away.

The ending had me gripping my iPad tight and trying not to cry. I mean Persephone Autumn knows just how to hit me in my feels! I’m dying for the second part of this duet!

"Just the idea of walking away steals my breath. Forms a fault line in my heart."

Shelly and Devlyn. Oh my gosh.
Shelly and Devlyn the way they meet to the way they fall in love and all of the in-betweens are breathtakingly heartbreaking and stunningly beautiful all at once. I cannot wait for the 2nd book. The author entices us with a cliffhanger that leaves us hanging on the edge holding our breaths for what's to come.

Persephone has this amazing talent to create these wonderful, relatable characters and create these stories that suck you right in and keep you wanting more until the very end. I have read a few books by this author and I love how quickly I get sucked in! Devlyn is a talented artist that was crushed by his high school sweetheart and never wanted to find love again. Shelly is working at a flower shop that she will own one day. When Devlyn does art for the flower shop these two have an undeniable instant connection. The pull is extremely strong for both of them. Shelly is as hesitant and Devlyn and this made me root for them even harder. This was an emotional journey for sure. I loved The characters in this book and loved her family and friends just as much. The cliffhanger had me yelling nooo it can’t already be the end of the book! I will be anxiously waiting for the next book in the series. I can’t wait to read the rest of their story!

Blank canvas by Persephone Autumn

3.5 stars

Blank Canvas by Persephone Autumn is an emotional reverse age gap romance ending with a massive twist. I am really curious to read how Devlyn and Shelly's roller-coaster ride ends in the next book as they have just started their heartaching journey.

It is book one of the Artist duet. Devlyn has turned into this locked box of dark emotions after his childhood sweetheart left him years ago. While working on a mural in the town's florist shop, he Meets shelly. She is sweet and shy and he cannot stop thinking about her. Shelly is looking for true love but is Devlyn ready for the commitment?

This was a slow burn one. Shelly may be older but she is really inexperienced in love life. All her friends are having their own families soon and it is making her anxious and sad sometimes. Devlyn is 10 years younger than her and has issues with emotional openness but he is completely enamored with Shelly. Her sweet, kind, loving and adorable personality has attracted Devlyn's ragged heart. He did mistakes and almost lost her but it also opened his eyes to his true feelings. The build up was very slow as Devlyn and Shelly both tried to avoid their feelings. Devlyn has a complicated and loveless life while Shelly is surrounded by love and support. They just got their hearts on way to HEA but that big twist is threatening to ruin everything.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily

4.25 Stars!! 🎨🌸💙

Having read the other books in this series I've been looking so forward to more! Every teaser had me wanting to pick up this book even more. I got right into this story and the Artist Duet. I really enjoyed this first installment so much!

This first installment in Devlyn and Shelly's journey pulled me in so fast! As these two and their paths cross again, can they give into their feelings and let something beautiful bloom? Or is it not worth the risks to their hearts? I couldn't wait to see how things would play out for them in this first book!

I found Devlyn and Shelly both to be super relatable. The realness of being guarded and the hope finding someone captured perfectly. There was such a depth to these two. I loved how i went through many emotions with Devlyn and Shelly throughout. I didn't know everything to expect in their story and that got me even more into it!

It was awesome being back in the Bay Area Duet Series! I so enjoyed what the other characters brought to the story as well!

With Blank Canvas, Ms.Autumn has created a great read that's words will paint their way onto your heart with the feels! If you haven't checked out her work or this series yet, you need to! I can't wait for more of this story with the second installment, Abstract Passion! 💙🎨🌸

OMG! That insanely emotional prologue had me completely and utterly hooked on this amazing story.

The story is beautifully written with such poignant word weaving that it instantly had my emotions all over the place. I laughed and I cried a little and I fell in love with these two amazing characters.

Shelly and Devlyn’s story pulled on my heartstrings and had me crossing my fingers, hoping that they would be able to figure this love thing out. I loved how raw and real their emotions were written on every page. The indecisiveness and conflicted feelings that Devlyn goes through was so relatable. My heart went out to him and how protective he is of his own heart – never wanting to feel such utter heartbreak again. But there is just something special about Shelly that pulls Devlyn in, slowly softening his heart for her.

I loved their slow build friendship and the pull they have for one another. The little quirky moments and then the beautiful moments they experience together slowly builds up to something extraordinarily special. But will that twist at the end destroy what they have already built.

Fantastic story with loads of angst, emotional turmoil, drama, passion and heartache. I loved every second of it and can’t wait to see how their story concludes.

Shelly has been watching all her friends and family fall in love and find true happiness. She has been waiting for hers but it seems so far out of reach. She is starting to feel lonely. Devlyn is determined to never fall in love or be in any relationship after his devastating breakup which destroyed him and sent him to a dark place. You will fall in love with this story it is a slow burn angst filled heart squeezing emotional roller coaster that will have you heart beating out of your chest. Such a well written emotional journey with absolutely fantastic characters that pull you into their world and have you praying everything works out for them. These two struggle with their emotions and neither truly know what they should do or not due. we see two tortured broken souls trying to find their other half and when they do they feel complete until you get that crazy cliff hanger that had my heart breaking and my mind screaming. I am anxiously waiting for the next book to come out. What an exceptional story. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

I adore Persephone Autumns writing!!!

Blank Canvas is book #1 in the Artist duet.

That ending!!!! I can't wait for book 2!!!

Devlyn had his heart broken 4 years ago by his high school girlfriend and hasnt had a relationship since. He is an artist and a loner.

Shelley has watched all her friends get their happy endings, and now she is waiting for hers to come. She works in a flower shop that will be hers one day.

When Devlyn gets hired to do artwork at the flower shop, Shelly and Devlyn become friends and have an instant connection. She stares at him when she thinks he isnt looking and she is his muse more than she knows. They might be taking it slow, but you can tell they are meant to be.

Blank Canvas is an emotional, angsty, slow burn that will have your feelings all over the place. After that ending, I will be counting down the days til the next book!!!!

I just finished this book, and I couldn’t put it down! The journey of Devlyn and Shelly captivated me from the first page. Watching Devlyn slowly peel back the layers of his fears and let Shelly into his life was so beautifully written. This book took me along with every thought, every fear, and every emotion that Devlyn had and was so detailed.
Their growing trust and love felt authentic, and the slow-burn romance kept me rooting for them every step of the way, wanting to keep reading more. By the time they finally came together, it was everything I’d hoped for—intense, emotional, and full of feels. Towards the end of the story, Devlyns mom decided to cause a scene and there’s also a big shock that unfolds. I’m already eager to see what’s next in their story!

This story is all angst. Reading this makes me think of the 90' and grunge music. Where Devlyn is dark, Shelly is light. Devlyn was deeply hurt and doesn't put himself in situations where he can be hurt again. Shelly is envious of the happiness of her friends. There is an attraction that draws them towards one another but something always seems to get in the way. Just when they are finally happy they are thrown for a loop. I am curious to see how the second part of this duet turns out.

I've read a couple of Persephone's duets and I didn't know it could get better and better. This time it's Shelly and Devlyn and it's a real slow burn. And of course, true to Persephone's style, it's an emotional roller coaster ride. And you can already see the characters' growth in them. I really enjoyed reading that. And that cliffhanger! I can't wait for the second book.

This book is part of a series. I haven't read anything in it but I was able to follow the story easily. It would have been easily to connect with the other characters because the other couples in this book.
His heart was broken in High school and has carried it with him and doesn't want to get with anyone until he meets her and she becomes his muse unbeknownst to her.
He was hired some time ago to paint a mural for her business & they rehire him to do a mural inside their building.
She is 10 years older and he has had enough of his games but when she says goodbye he has to own up to his feelings
