Good lesson about scissor safety though. I think it would be hard to write an interesting story about scissors. It’s as interesting as a story about scissors can be.
‘We wanted to be treated well, each and every day’ – lessons from scissors
Author Jennifer Jones is a professional counselor and mental coach and writes children’s books that both entertain and provide lessons on socializing, good behavior, and emotions by illustrating concepts in the relatable terms of recognizable school tools. SCISSORS ON STRIKE is Book 6 of her ON STRIKE series.
With clever rhyming patterns and illustrations, Jennifer gives voice to scissors: ’Have you ever considered how scissors feel, When you put them away? Tucked them in your cubby To be used another day…No, the children often don’t think About how it feels to us, As we quietly go on cutting, Without ever making a fuss.’ Proceeding to outline all the ways scissors are ‘abused’ the scissors go on strike – and the result is a positive one: the children who have taken scissors for granted suddenly appreciate the scissors’ values and apologize and write them a note of appreciation – and all ends well!
Delightful to read and carrying a strong message about respect and kindness, this little book is one all children will love to read – and to learn! Very Highly Recommended
Great book to teach kids about how to treat scissors with respect and safety. I love the illustrations and the way the story was written. Very easy to follow.
