Helsing Society #1

One Step Past Sundown

Dylan McCormick is an average eighteen year old kid who graduated high school with his friends. The plus side of working at the family sandwich shop instead of going straight to university is he skipped gaining the freshman fifteen. The downside is no woman likes hearing, “keep it down, my parents are upstairs…”

A small indignity in exchange for free rent and a job that pays above minimum wage.

Everything changes when Thomas Michael Sweeny starts sniffing around the shop. Dylan’s dad doesn’t want to sell his American dream. Giving up the shop isn’t an option, some things are more important than money.

What Dylan’s father doesn’t know was that when he said no Sweeny, he was really saying no to a vampire.

Vampires aren’t known for handling rejection well.

Seventeen hundred miles away in the dust bowl that is Phoenix, Arizona, Saul and Greg Cooper are also working in their family business.

Their father is the current Van Helsing and leader of the Helsing Society. They’re growing tired of their father’s orders to wait and watch from the shadows. They want to take action against the creatures of the night. What they long for is the chance to fight back.

What they need is a champion. Then it would be the vampires’ turn to fear the night.

This was very fun to read. I’m looking forward to book 2!

I’ll admit when I got to the end I went back and reread the first chapter. It wasn’t that the jumping around in time was confusing, I just wanted to refresh my memory.

Good idea bad execution

Interesting concept even if it is a little reminiscent of Buffy, but you don't get a complete story it's more like two pieces of different stories that they put together to make one book without completing either. The characters have potential but there's not enough interest in a half completed book for me to want to read the second.

One Step Past Sundown (The Helsing Society Book 1)

Okay, some people can write like they are telling their personal story.
This book has awesome humor and a hero in some ways. Dylan's life has been hard, but meeting Saul and brother Greg Helsing added a whole new dimension to it.
But the last page of book 1 added a big smile to my face.

Interesting and intriguing start to this series!!!

Congratulations to Bradford Bates and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such intexresting and exciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.

Excellent start

I have enjoyed this book greatly. I have only just got round to reading it because I have 3500 ish books bought and to be read! Oops! The pity is that this is a better book than some of those that I have read first. At least I can binge read the series, and I am really looking forward to book 2.

Good Start

I enjoy the series by Michael Anderle, my complaint is sometimes I think they go on too long. Imagine, telling an author they write too many books. But what do I know, I am not a wealthy, successful author. I like this premise.

Waste of time

Not very good starts off with no intro ,and then a half vampire with a imp demon as a friend !! So this character is only half dead and then consorts with demons? And this character is a good guy? Don't think so!!

Pulp fiction cross between Angel and Dresden Files

Pulp fiction cross between Angel\Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dresden Files. Started well then got pretty average very quickly. Unnecessary amount of strong language.

I enjoyed the story. I'm giving only 3 stars rather than 4 because it didn't feel like a complete book. It was more like a lead up but no real ending, to at least wrap up that part of the story. looking forward to read the next one.

Not terrible, but not great either. Well enough written that the narrative Cary’s you along. First person by half-vampire enforcer for some secret society.
