USA Today bestselling author, Elise Faber, loves chocolate, Star Wars, and hockey (the order depending on the day and how well her team—the Sharks!—are playing). She and her husband also play as much hockey as they can squeeze into their schedules, so much so that their typical date night is spent on the ice. Elise changes her hair color more often than some people change their socks, loves sparkly things, and is the mom to two exuberant boys. She lives in Northern California. 4.5 Star review of Broken (Breakers Hockey #1) by Elise Faber I was excited when I learnt that Elise Faber had a new hockey series coming out. This is Luc and Lexi’s friends to lovers story and I was hooked on the story from the first to the last chapter. I enjoyed Ms. Faber’s writing style and found Broken to be an emotional, well written story and one that ticked the boxes for me. Luc is the GM for the Baltimore Breakers whilst Lexi is the team’s lawyer. Luc has been in love with Lexi for a few years, but she is married so he can only be her friend. However when Lexi’s world falls apart it is Luc who steps up to be her rock. I loved both these characters separately but when they were able to finally get together they were awesome. I was so cheering for these two to get he happily ever after that they so deserved. This was a roller coaster of a read at times and one that had me on the edge of my seat at times. If Broken is anything to go by, then Ms. Faber has another hit series on her hand. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the Breakers Hockey series.
Overall, this was just a really dull reading experience. A guy likes a woman, but she's married. So he decides to sublimate his feelings and be a super-duper best friend. Then she divorces her husband and the way is clear for them to be together. And that's . . . pretty much it. There's a little hiccup towards the end, but it's incredibly minor. There's just no obstacles for them, at all. And I love a doting, cinnamon roll MC but this guy doesn't seem to have any needs or desires that don't involve completely catering to her. I just found myself impatient for any sort of conflict just so something would break up the chapters.
Her Ex was a bit of a caricature, and review lost a star for Heroine being so high maintenance, but he was adorable and his devotion was sighworthy. 3.5 Stars
"I love good sports romance and hockey always seem to draw me in. I was so glad to see Elise Faber starting another hockey series.
Broken, Lexi and Luc’s story will pull at your heartstrings in this fantastic friends to lovers story. Their story puts your emotions through ringer, but you won’t be able to put it down. Luc has been in love with Lexi from the first time he laid eyes on her, the problem however, she is married to another man. When she shows up on his door heartbroken, can Luc just remain her friend, or will he be able to make her believe in love again.
Looking forward to more in this series. " ~Stephanie
"4 There is a lot of feeling in this romance that just pours off the page. Luc and Lexi are made for each other and though there’s plenty of bumps in the road they weather the storms together. I really enjoyed this HEA and can’t wait to read more in this series!
Unrequited to requited, hockey Romance, lawyer, GM, office romance, Best Friends to lovers" ~Lindsay
4.5 Stars! Luc has been in love with Lexi since the moment he met her, two years ago. But Lexi is married to Caleb. When Caleb and Lexi’s marriage is suddenly over, Lexi runs to her best friend, Luc. Luc is such an amazing Hero that despite his feelings for Lexi, he gives her time and helps her heal from her broken heart, before he makes his move. This was a feel good, almost no drama romance, even with Caleb’s cheating ass. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this world.
I felt like we were fast forwarding through the beginning, which I can understand. Nobody wants to spend forever in heartbreak. But then we slow down to enjoy the transition from friends to lovers, which was lovely.
Luc is exactly what we all hope for when we go through a horrible breakup. He’s so in tuned with Lexi. He takes notice of her likes and dislikes. He makes moves based on where she is emotionally. Luc is the best.
Lexi was deserving of Luc’s affections. She’s a happy woman, level headed. She’s in tune with Luc and does what she needs to make him happy, even after making a couple mistakes along the way.

Solid 4.5. Sweet best friends to lovers hockey romance. A wel paced, comfort read. Evident that the author is a hockey fan as the business side of hockey was well thought through and authentic. It was fun to see this kind of story from a young GM's (the MMC) pov too. That epilogue has me excited to keep exploring the series!
Luc has been in love with Lexi for as long as he's known her. But she was married, so instead of giving into those feelings, he became her best friend instead. Now she shows up at his house, in desperate need of comfort because her husband has cheated on her. She needs her best friend, not someone in love with her. Right?
God, I could feel Luc's longing for his best friend, and I FELT for him! At the same time, I could feel Lexi's despair, and her awareness of her best friend, and I could feel how they loved each other, were in love with each other. I loved Broken - it's practically filled to the brim with emotions, Luc is absolutely one of the sweetest, strongest heroes I've read in a long while, and the way he and Lexi came together was beautiful. I can already tell how great this new series is going to be with this amazing couple starting things off.
I'm not sure why I'm surprised that I absolutely loved this book. Just like all the previous books this one hooked me right from the get go and I could NOT put it down.
O boy did I fall hard for Luc. He was such a good man and loved Lexi so much that he was willing to be just friends if that was what she wanted. Thank God she wanted him as much as he did her. Because they're a bit more mature they took their pasts and problems head on after a few bumps on the road. The bond that holds them together was so strong it was jumping from the pages and I as they finally found the HEA I actually shed a tear because I was so happy for them.
This is book 1 in what seems to be a promising series. I can't wait to see where it will take us because I have a feeling this just might turn out to become one of my favorites.
Broken is book one in the series and it was a great read! It was a beautiful friends to lovers story. I loved Luc and Lexi! Luc was seriously so swoony. I loved how much he cared and loved Lexi. These two had great chemistry and were just perfect for each other. Looking forward to reading more in this series!
Luc fell in love with Lexi the instant he saw her but settled for being her friend when he found she was married. When her husband cheats on her, Luc steps up and becomes her rock. Luc's feelings only grow whilst he looks after her but she surprised him by starting to return those feelings. This was another great read from Elise combining sport with characters that you fall in love with
After being introduced to Luc in other books by this author we finally get to read his story. Was it worth the wait and the build up? Yes....and no. Please don't misunderstand - I did enjoy this read, but it wasn't what I was hoping it would be. Of course, every story has the main characters and these were Luc and Lexi. We learnt a lot about Lexi - about her thoughts and fears, her regrets and sadness, her happiness and hopes. I enjoyed Lexi - she was quirky and fun and had to deal with a crap hand that life dealt her. We also learnt a lot about Luc - what he thought about Lexi, his biggest fears about Lexi, his hopes about Lexi. Ok, I'm probably exaggerating things a bit, but it did feel very Lexi-centred, even when the character being focused on was Luc. Yes, we are given insight into Luc's thoughts about the team, but nothing really on a personal level. I would have loved to know more about him but we're kept in the dark, almost as much as Lexi, until almost the end.
2.5 stars- I liked both Luc and Lexi- liked that they were good people and cared about each other deeply, but overall the story was not exciting or super interesting. It could have been, but just fell flat.
This one felt a bit flat. I liked her writing style and story. Lexi and Luc had a good friendship which was nice but felt like Luc was a pessimist and couldn’t like his character. Was an ok read.
Broken is the first book in the Breakers Hockey series. This is a best friend to more storyline and overall, it was just an ok read for me. I almost did not finish this, but I am happy to say that I stuck it out and read Luc and Lexi's story until the end.
Luc is the GM of the Breakers Hockey team and Lexi is on the legal team. Luc meets Lexi for the first time, and it is an instant attraction, but he soon finds out she is married. He decides it is better to have her as a friend than to lose her at all and there is the beginning of your story.
I don't want to give anything away, but Lexi ends up single and Luc has his chance to be with her after 2 1/2 years of being in love with her. He is amazing with her giving her the time and space she needs before he reveals his true feelings.
This is a pretty predictable story with some good secondary characters introduced. The author gave us some additional side stories to keep it interesting. I almost did not finish because it is a slow starter. Once you finally get into Luc and Lexi's relationship changing it gets better. But that being said the ending left me a little disappointed. Yes, they get their HEA, but it was completely rushed after such a slow start. It seemed to take forever to get them together, we enjoy their relationship as a couple and then what should be elaborated more, just ends. The very end sets us up for the next book, which always makes me a little crazy.
Overall, the read was ok. Luc and Lexi were good characters that you pulled for. There was love, romance, sexy time and some minor drama with the secondary characters. ⭐⭐⭐
Broken is the start of another hockey series that has incredible potential. Luc is the GM of the Baltimore Breakers NHL team and the former boss/mentor/friend of Charlotte, San Francisco Gold GM. Luc meet Lexi 2 years ago and immediately saw a future with her and then learned she was married. He wanted her in his life so he tucked his feelings for her deep inside and became her best friend and even became friends with her husband Caleb.
Lexi’s world is rocked when she learns a horrible secret about her husband that has her emotionally reeling. Luc is there for his BFF and he is patiently waiting for the right time before he makes any move on Lexi to let her know he doesn’t want to be her friend...he wants more.
The emotional connection these two have is incredibly intense and they walk together while Lexi navigates the upheaval in her life. The book engages the reader and introduces a new cast of characters that will likely be the focus of future stories in this new series. Luc is a tremendously giving man who takes care of those he considers his family ...Lexi, his team and friends. Lexi is a strong woman who loves to laugh.
This book was a fantastic start to a new series and was so satisfying to read. Lexi and Luc have a wonderful relationship that is able to navigate the bumps and unexpected challenges they encounter.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
A new series, but the same awesomeness I've come to expect and love from Elise Faber continues.
"...when I look at you, I know that my heart beats only for you."
Luc has been in love with Lexi for more than two years despite her being married to another man. Determined to keep her in his life at all costs, he's turned down the dial on his romantic feelings and concentrated on being her best friend. But when her husband is no longer in the picture, Luc finds himself on the awkward path of figuring out what Lexi needs from him and how best to give it to her.
Lexi knows that Luc cares about her, just not how much. After her marriage dissolves, she realises that what she didn't know she needed was a lot closer than she thought it was. But her (understandable) trust issues and the past linger on. Can they overcome the obstacles to find their own slice of happy?
I loved this read. Luc & Lexi's story is sweet, emotional and hard to put down. The twists and turns kept me glued to its pages. Theirs is a friends to lovers romance that I recommend as a must-read. I think this series is off to a great start, and I can't wait for book #2.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
Luc is the General Manager for the NHL team, Baltimore Breakers. Lexi is one of the team’s lawyers. He has been hiding his love for her since they first met years ago because at the time she was married. Instead he just tagged along with them, becoming Lexi’s best friend. One night she comes running to him in tears, her world just falling apart because her husband was cheating on her. Now he has a chance to win her heart over, while protecting his own at the same time.
I’m giving this one 3 stars. While I loved that this is a couple that is older than most, there were times I would roll my eyes over what they were doing. I mean come on, they are both acting like teenagers sometimes and he gets so focused on winning her over that he completely forgets about his job as the GM of an NHL Team, seriously? I also wish that at the beginning it started back when they first met not bouncing back and forth between now and then for the first few chapters. A few times characters came in but unless you have read other books of her’s you have no idea who they are. It’s a cute story, he is a devoted man that is for sure. Hopefully the rest of the books in the series are better than this one.
4.5 Stars for Broken (Breakers Hockey #1) I love hockey romance and as soon as I heard that Elise Faber was starting a new hockey series I was excited and I have to say Luc and Lexi’s friends to lovers romance was everything I expected and so much more. If Broken is anything to go by she will certainly have a hit series on her hands. Luc is the GM for the Breakers and Lexi is the team’s lawyer so they not only work together, they also mix in the same circles but Lexi is married and that means she can ever be a friend to the man who has loved her from the moment he meet her. But what happens when Lexi’s world falls apart and Luc steps in to support her, will these friends become lovers and what will the future hold .... This romance ticked all my boxes, I smiled, I shed some tears and I found myself hoping this couple got the HEA they both deserved. I adored Luc and Lexi and I found myself captivated and sitting on the edge of my seat as I joined their emotional journey and now, I’m even more excited for what’s coming next from the Breakers Hockey team. I highly recommend one clicking this book to all romance lovers as well as sports romance lovers.
4.5 stars - hot best friend romance I devoured this first book in the new hockey series by Elise Faber. It is a best friends/second chance at love hockey romance. What a great combination. Luc has been in love since he first met Lexi and realized almost immediately that she was married. So, he did the only thing he could, he became her best friend, being there for all life moments that mattered, suffering silently with a broken heart. Lexi was in love with Caleb. He was her everything until he wasn’t, and he became a lying cheating manwhore. She runs to her best friend Luc, leaning on him to get her through this tragedy with her soon to be ex-husband.
I love these two characters. Luc is strong, vulnerable and lovable. I was rooting for him, wanting to yell at Lexi to open her eyes and see what was right in front of her. Lexi has it all together on the outside but is falling apart on the inside. She has lost trust in men sticking around for the long haul and is constantly second guessing herself and motives. Looking forward to Oliver’s story in Boldly, hoping that Mark Sheldon gets his just desserts.
I love hockey romances, but had never read one involving a former player-turned-GM. This book had some tropes and setups that were different from my go-to norm. I'm glad I tried it out because I really liked it. It was fresh for me, while still having several sweet things I like.
I love friends to lovers, which was present. I love sports environments and I really like that this one was different from the usual ones I read in. I'm used to being in the fictional locker room, not the GM office or home. I liked the home setting here a LOT. This book felt very cozy in many ways. Once the spice kicked in, there was a decent bit of it, which I also enjoyed.
I really enjoyed the dynamics and emotional turmoil for both characters. I loved Luc; there are so many great aspects about him that I like. I loved the way his flaws were hidden within his strengths. I also liked the progression of the relationship, as well as the third act twist. I wasn't sure what to expect in the third act, but I did appreciate how it was handled. Overall, I really liked this book and I'd like to continue reading more in the series!
Breakers Hockey is Elise Faber’s latest sports series and I am so here for it! Broken - Book 1, is an incredible friends to lovers romance that centers around the Baltimore Breakers GM - Luc and the team’s lawyer - Lexy. I wasn’t sure where this story was going because Lexi is a married woman BUT rest assured, there is no cheating. Luc is an incredible man who is desperately in love with an unattainable woman. His love for her is so strong, that he will do anything, including being her friend and watch her live her best life with another man. But not all that glitters is gold and when Lexy’s world tilts on its axis, Luc is the one to straighten it. I loved watching them together. They were amazing as friends and absolutely incredible as a couple. This book will play with your emotions and keep you glued to your kindle as you watch Luc and Lexy get their much deserved happily ever after. I look forward to each and every book that is to come in this fantastic new series. TBR Broken and Enjoy.
Broken is book 1 in the new "Breakers Hockey" series by Elise Faber. This is Luc and Lexi's story. Theirs is a friends to lovers romance AND a 2nd chance at love sports(hockey) romance. It's emotional, heartwarming, sweet, and will have you rooting for these best friends to get their HEA. Luc is truly a great guy. He fell for Lexi a few years ago but she was already with someone else so instead of walking away, he stayed as her friend because he loved her. Fast forward to now and Lexi's husband has broken her heart. She runs to Luc , needing her BFF for support. Only will Luc seize this opportunity to show Lexi his heart and love that's always been there for her or stay as just the friend? The story is great in this in series. Loved the friends to lovers romance. Has that angst, starting heartbreak, but bounces back with romance, heat, feels, attraction, romance, love and HEA. Looking forward to book 2.
This story was captivating, beautiful, sweet and about love. I love this story from the first chapter and I just knew I had to finished reading it. Luc is an amazing man! He is handsome, sweetest, smart, funny and a good man. He's been in love with his best friend for two years but is keeping it a secret. Luc is the best guy to have as a friend. When he finds out that his best friend is single, the gloves comes off and he tries to win her over. Lexi is an amazing woman! She is fearless, gorgeous, smart, sweet and funny. She has the best guy friend a girl can have. Luc is the best friend. Her life is in shambles after the betrayal and now she is a single woman. Lexi did not count on had feelings for her best friend Luc. These best friends turn lovers romance was amazing! Their chemistry is off the charts and their relationship takes off. I love the writing in this book. I want more of Luc and Lexi story now😂. Amazing work Elise Faber!
I really enjoy a book with an older couple in it. This one was no exception. I loved getting to know Luc and Lexi. They were both broken in their own way. One of them just projected it more than the other. What I liked most about this book was Luc's love for Lexi. He basically loved her from the moment he met her. But he was an honorable man and stepped aside once he discovered she was married. He made sure that they remained friends, but he never crossed the line. It takes a strong man to be just friends with the woman he loves and I loved him even more for that. I enjoyed the semi fast pace of this book and that there wasn’t any major drama. I thought it was a great introduction to a new team. I think I'm gonna like meeting all of these new players.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
I'm excited about a new hockey series from Elise Faber and was excited to get a glimpse of the Gold that we all love! Luc is the GM of the Baltimore Breakers and has been in love with Lexi since he first laid eyes on her over two years ago. When he learned she was married, he relegated himself to the part of best friend to both her and her husband. When Lexi learns of her husband's infidelity, she quickly runs to Luc for support from her best friend. Luc gives her the support she needs but doesn't push for the intimacy he wants. When these two finally get together (sometimes a woman just has to put herself out there!), their connection is hot and intense. This is a great start to a new series as we see glimpses of the team that I'm sure we will meet later. Friends to lovers is always my favorite and when it involves a mature couple, I'm all in. Looking forward to more Breakers!!
4.7 stars This is the first book in the Breakers Hockey Duet and it is a scrumptious read from beginning to end. Luc and Lexi are an adorable couple and give new meaning to slow burn. Luc is the hockey team’s general manager who has not had the best luck when it comes to meeting women. Lexi is a woman who thinks she has it all – a good job and a happy marriage. When the two meet, they become fast friends as there is just something that pulls them together. However, when life throws a wrench into Lexi’s life, her best friend Luc is there to help her pick up the pieces. These characters have that je ne sais quoi that makes one smile and cheer them on through all of the ups and downs. It shows the true meaning of friendship and what it means to stick around. It is a poignant story of starting over, hope and love. I look forward to reading more from this series.
Broken, book one in the Breakers Hockey series follows hockey manager Luc Masterson and team lawyer Alexis Hallbright. Luc has been in love with Lexi for years, but he’s never acted on his feelings since she was happily married to a man named Caleb, happily being one of her best friends, just to have her a part of his life. Everything is going great, their friendship going strong after two years, until one night changes the course of both of their lives. When Lexi’s marriage falls apart, Luc wants nothing more but to tell Lexi how he really feels, but he patiently waits until she figures things out, but when they can’t deny the growing chemistry between them, the sparks finally ignite and the blaze they leave behind is smoldering. Great start to a new series, can’t wait to read more of this series.
