Kailey Henderson dealt in code.

Well, code, social anxiety, and online gaming.

What she didn’t deal in was sexy hockey players.

And she certainly didn’t deal in sexy hockey players like Connor Smith. He was brass. He was loud. He was funny and charming and…ballsy.

Kailey was about the furthest thing from ballsy someone could find.

Connor didn’t seem to care. From the moment she’d showed up at the rink to help her friend set up a player development program for the Baltimore Breakers, he had led a campaign to win her heart.

The thing was, Kailey didn’t actually want her heart to be won, and the more Connor campaigned, the more she resisted. And…the more she resisted and argued and pushed back, the more she found out that she actually could be ballsy.

And the worst thing about that?

It made Connor campaign even harder.

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Note 2: This is a series. Although each book is a standalone, the books, I suggest, should be read in order as to enhance experience of reading them.

Trigger warnings: emotional abuse, bullying, dyslexia, social anxiety, infidelity, trauma.

Firstly I wanna say: I FEEL SEEN I FEEL SEEN I FEEL SEEEN!

Look there have been a lot of socially awkward girls that I've read about, and enjoyed. But Kailey, was something special. She was what I was in a VERY RELATABLE way, she was so far removed from the usual socially awkward girls. She had social anxiety, anxiety, and didn't call herself different, or a quirky girl (god I am starting to hate that title). And she dealt with her father and anyone else who tried to bully her, with the Kailey confidence she had and I was sooo here for it. And I enjoyed how Smitty didn't make her feel ashamed/worthless of it and instead told her to embrace it and just be herself.

Gaah, I loved Smitty too. Despite him being dyslexic, he doesn't let it stop him from soaring high and just achieving everything he can, which I want to do when I grow up haha. Sure, he has his doubts and insecurities play a lot, but he's Smitty and he reminds us why he's such a lovable book boyfriend because he doesn't let all those factors control him, and I loved that about him a lot.

And together, Kailey and Smitty along with his wonderful friends, sure gave me a whole lot to enjoy, with realistic dialogues, emotions, battling demons, character development, romance and sexual chemistry. Despite sometimes getting a bit fussed about too many sex scenes in the book (because I wanted to learn more about them alright?), I still did enjoy this novel a lot and I look forward to the next one - which is Beth and Raph's story! Woohoo, can't wait!

Until the next read,

-TMR

I really liked this.
The Hero is into the heroine from the first page.
He is big, loud but has issues.
She is not into peopling.
They are perfect for each other and he is so so sweet.
But there us loads of sex, thinking about it and on page scenes.
I felt I would have liked more detail to the plot and less internal monologue of thinking about sex.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Update on previous couples.
Breadcrumbs dropped for next book, including cliffhanger end for next couple.
HEA.

Could have been great...

I loved the storyline and characters but the regular pronoun misuse first confused me
then frustrated me. e.g. using he/she/his/her instead of I/me. I moved her arm is totally different from I moved my arm. I felt like it was originally written in third person then changed to first person but too many of the pronouns failed to get changed.

omg this was so sweet and wholesome and amazing!!🩷🩷🩷they were both the cutest everrrr. it was incredible to watch them develop and grow and help each other along the way🥹🫶there was no third act breakup and it was the instalove trope which i adore so this was just perfect! i loved conner and kailey so so much, they were absolutely adorable🥰everyone should read this now💋

‘He laughed, loudly, cutting himself off when she jumped. “Sorry.”
She reached out, hesitated, then lightly patted his arm. “Don’t be.” A whisper. “Just…be you.’

‘“You’re right,” she whispered. “I…am comfortable with you. I don’t know why,” she added, and he grinned at the perplexity that joined her expression. “By all accounts, I shouldn’t be.”
“It’s because we’re meant to be together,” he said, matter-of-factly.’

‘“Here.” He thrust it at her. “I…” Now his cheeks actually felt a little hot, though thankfully, his beard mostly covered them. “I got this for you after last night.”’🥹

‘He’d known this woman was it for him from the moment he’d laid eyes on her.’

‘“With you, it’s easy,” she said. “I don’t understand completely why, but I’m going to take the gift the universe has given me.”
The gift?
His heart squeezed. Hard.
“You’re the gift,” she said lightly. “In case you didn’t get my not-so-subtle compliment.”’

‘But he was so fucking ready for Kailey.
“I’ve waited for you,” he whispered. “For my whole life, I’ve waited for a woman like you.”
Wide eyes, pink cheeks, parted lips. “I…” A breath, tears glistening in those wide eyes. “That is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me,” she whispered.’

‘His mouth curved, that beard twitching. “Fuck,” he said, confirming her thoughts. “I really love that you’re sassy with me, little bird.”’

‘Then she totally undid him by saying, “Smitty, baby, do you think I could ever be anything but comfortable with you?”
He went still, those words tearing through him, burning and breaking, reducing him to pieces and ash, and then he was whole again. Only this time, it was more. He was more.
Because of her.’

‘“Smitty,” she said, tugging at his hold. “No. Stop. Tell me what’s the matter, baby.”
Baby.
Fuck.’ so cute she calls him bby🥹🥰

‘She snorted now, humor dancing across her face. “No, baby,” she murmured. “You’re not nice. Very not nice.”’

‘“Smitty,” she whispered, and his eyes locked with hers. All the words swirled within her, stuck and not, pressing against her, desperate to get out. And eventually they did. “I love you,” she said, her hand on the warm skin of his cheek, the soft bristles of his beard tickling her palm. “I love you, and it’s not too much. I don’t need to stop. Not with you. Not ever with you.”’

‘“I love it,” he said. “I don’t think anyone has ever done anything more thoughtful for me.”
“Really?” Her brows dragged together.
“Really.”
“That’s not right,” she told him, that frown deepening. “You deserve so much, baby. You deserve everything.”
“Fuck.”
More frowning.
“Now I need to kiss you.”
The frown smoothed. “And that’s a problem?”
“It’s a problem because I want to use it and I want to hear how you made it and I want to say thank you so fucking much because it is the most incredible thing someone has done for me, but instead, I’m going to kiss you and then I won’t be able to say all of that and—”’ this gesture was so thoughtful and cute😩🥰

‘Fingers in her hair, tilting her head back. “My mom just told me to marry you.”
She started, going completely still, mouth dropping open.
“For the record, I told her I’d already planned on it.”
Her exhale was shaky. “Smitty.”
“This isn’t a proposal,” he said, smoothing his thumb over her bottom lip, “though I’m not saying that I wouldn’t elope if you gave me the chance.”
“No.”
He frowned.
“I want the wedding,” she whispered. “I want everyone to see how much I love you.”’

‘For the second time in less than an hour, he was near tears. “I love you so fucking much,” he whispered, “and I’m so thankful, so proud of you for what you said, for being here, being in my life and—”
His voice cracked.
He pushed on. “For never making me feel like a disappointment.”
A hand on his cheek, brushing lightly against his beard. “Baby.”’

‘“Why are you so fucking perfect?” She pushed up. “Perfect for me. So much more than anything I could have ever dreamed of. You…you give my fantasies life and I love you,” she whispered, fingers weaving into his beard, pressing to his jaw. “You’re perfect.”
“Fuck.”
She blinked. “What?”
The words had struck him. Hard. Sinking in through his skin, swimming around through his bloodstream, dropping into his heart with an impact that made it nearly impossible for him to breathe, to speak. “Now you’re going to be wiping away my tears,” he murmured, covering her hand with his own.
Kailey smiled, and it sent another impact to his heart.
She leaned in, kissed lightly beneath one eye and then the other, and he knew that she was kissing away moisture, a couple of salted drops that had escaped.’

‘A shake of her head, a brush of her lips to his. “Because, more than anything else, more than anyone else, my heart has always known yours.”’

Universal

Kailey isn't interested in the big hockey player Smitty, who seems to be on a quest to get her to go out with him. She has so many triggers that could set her off at any second that to be in the spotlight because she's dating a professional athlete is just...not her thing. But she can only put him off for so long before he amps up his pursuit so much that she has to give in to the attraction she feels, the way he makes her feel safe. Will Smitty be the one guy who sticks around once he realizes the work it will take to be with someone like her?

Smitty too has demons. He might not have social anxiety like his love, Kailey, but he has scars of his own brought upon by never feeling enough, always feeling as if he has to hide certain things about himself. The first time he saw Kailey, he was struck mute. Now he has to convince her they are meant to be. Once he finds out she suffers from social anxiety, has triggers that could be obstacles to a long-term relationship, he has to decide if he can make it work. If he has anything to say about it, though, they'll be together permanently.

Smitty and Kailey are perfect for each other. They don't seem like they'd work on paper, but they actually complemented each other so well. He saw her, loved her, made her feel free to be herself, to love herself and know she was worth loving, something she had never gotten from her father. In turn, she made him feel like he was enough, wasn't stupid or a disappointment, was perfect for her. Ballsy is at times heartbreaking, but sweet and so emotionally satisfying at the end when both of them come into their own and are on their way to resolving their demons. I have been loving the Breakers Hockey world - can't wait for Raph and Beth's story, Bewitched now.

This is my first book in this series. I am a fan of the author and have her other series but for some reason I have not read any books in this series until now. It features players who play on a hockey team called the Breakers. It is a stand alone story and it deals with some serious subjects like Dyslexia and Social Anxiety.

In this story we meet Connor who goes by the name of Smitty. He is a player on the hockey team and Kailey is a newer part of the team on the behind the scenes way. She suffers from extreme social anxiety and Smitty is big, loud and he terrifies her.

Smitty is majorly crushing on Kailey from day one. He knows she is his one but she won't give him the time of day because he freaks her out. Meanwhile Smitty suffers from Dyslexia and even as an adult he struggles.

When K and Smitty find out that they both have issues that make them feel inferior and that their families don't get it, well that's when these two start to understand each other. I really loved how they each had each others backs and they were there for each other.

It was a really fascinating story and one I learned some new things about Dyslexia and Anxiety. I adored how Smitty had K's back in relation to her nightmare of a father and I loved how K supported Smitty in relation to his brother.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What a beautifully written romance and a perfect addition to the Breakers Hockey Series.
This is Connor Smith and Kailey Henderson’s heartwarming, fun yet emotional journey. Kailey hasn’t had an easy life, dealing on a daily basis with her social anxiety means the last thing she needs is a high profile hockey player giving her attention. Her family chose to hide her anxiety issues so when Smitty shows her attention and kindness, it doesn’t take long for her to fall for this big, kindhearted man who is dealing with his own issues. Smitty is determined to see the real Kailey and he goes out of his way help her feel comfortable in her own skin and what follows is a heartwarming romance that will appeal to a wide range of audiences.
I loved everything about this book, I smiled, I swooned and I cried as I joined Smitty and Kailey on their journey. Ballsy is a wonderful addition to the series but it can certainly be read and loved as a stand-alone, I fell hard and fast for Smitty and I adored Kailey but it was the support and strength they found in each other that took this book to another level. So I guess all I need to say is please one click this gem, you won’t be disappointed.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: Instalove, opposites attract
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Five HUGE stars! Ballsy is probably my favorite instalove story I've read. Just super sweet and seriously left me with all the feels. We have the big, burly outgoing hockey player who falls for the quiet and quirky girl who suffers from extreme social anxiety in the perfect case of opposites attract. They just work so well together! They have way more in common than it first appears and they both bring understanding, love, support, and a devilish sense of humor to the relationship. Beautifully written with the best teaser for the next book in the series!

Ballsy is the 4th book in the Breakers Hockey series by Elise Faber. It is a complete standalone and I have not read any other books in the series. It is told in 3rd person.

Less than perfect becomes an emotional temptation. From heartache to hope, Connor and Kailey are proof that love is more than beautiful words. Ballsy is an expression of the soul that pulls at the heart. A beautifully broken melody that hits all the right notes. My all time favorite, Elise Faber novel.

BALLSY is the fourth book in the Breakers Hockey series and we meet Kailey and Connor (Smitty). One is an anxiety-ridden introvert; one is loud and brash. These two will never get on, right?

Wrong! They are two halves of a perfect jigsaw. Both of them need the other, giving them the strength to deal with whatever is going on in their lives. And I loved that. I really did! Because it wasn't all one-sided. Smitty had his issues to deal with, the same as Kailey did. And together, they dealt with it all. Just proving that everyone has something to cope with, even those that are loud and ballsy!

Perfectly paced, Kailey and Smitty's story moves fast. He knows what he wants but won't walk all over Kailey to get it. Once she gets on board - that's it. Game over. Except it's not because there is so much going on. All of which is designed to keep me engrossed and turning the pages.

The storyline with Monica I could see happening, like a train wreck in front of me. Raph's story is next though and I can't wait to read it! I also hope Brandon gets a story though. He may not be part of the Breakers family, but he's had his heart broken too.

A brilliant addition to the series and definitely recommended by me.

I couldn’t deal with that stupid heroine any longer

“So that was why she was wrapped in her fluffy robe, skin pink from her bath, her vibrator—the good one with the special clit tapping and suction as well as the big ol’ dick part because she was a fucking whore and did not give a damn.”

- she was supposed to be this shy girl with anxiety but then she cusses like a sailor and calls herself a whore. Okay, I don’t mind cussing, I do it all the time in my mind and not actually saying the words so I can relate, but then she started calling herself a whore and I was done, it’s completely normal if she wants to have lots of vibrators and masturbate 24/7, god only knows I do that but you don’t see me calling myself a whore, I’m just a normal healthy woman who likes to orgasm and masturbate and there is NOTHING wrong about that. Even if she didn’t say that part about whore I still would’ve left the book, I got annoyed real fast when she continued obsessing over H’s monster cock. She wasn’t quirky, she was plain weird and I actually wanted to punch her multiple times, she annoyed me so much with her big dick obsession.

This book has great characters, showing real struggles. Great choices of tropes and story arcs. But it was obviously changed from 3rd person to 1st person at some point…..it needs massive editing. Using her and I/me in the same sentence was so distracting, and confusing. The editing issues start early and continue all the way to the end. The pronoun issues exist from both POVs, so when Kaylie and Conner are together the she then he then I is real hard to follow.

Welp, the fact that both the h & H described the H exactly the same way “six feet six inches, two hundred twenty pounds” within two pages of each other was my first clue that this would be a convoluted mess. Add in an h who literally runs into “a wall” (the H) twice, the second time results in her being nearly knocked unconscious, and it’s like YA crap. Shame, really, as stories about hockey players are like catnip to me. This book, however, was not good.

Ballsy is the fourth book in Elise Faber's Breakers Hockey series and I like this one the best. Elise gives us two people, Kailey and Connor, who have had a hard time in life due to either their anxiety or having dyslexia. Ballsy is a wonderfully written book that deals with social awkwardness and has you swooning over Connor, Smitty, and wanting to help Kailey see that she has so much to offer the world. These two are lost souls that are made for one another and end up helping each other navigate through their situations.

Connor is a big, bold a loveable hockey player for the Breakers' hockey team, that has everyone laughing but his struggle with dyslexia is real and at times gets in the way of living his life. He never really has had a relationship because of his career and his dyslexia. When Kailey shows up at the rink all his thinking goes out the door. He wants to be with her. There is something that pulls him to her. When he finds out that she suffers from social anxiety and that her family basically buried it did not treat her like she was a capable person, he decides he wants to help her and protect her. Will he convince Kailey that she is worth everything? Can he show her that they are perfect for one another and that they belong together? Since he is so ballsy, will that be a detriment or will it help? What happens when he meets her family? Will words be exchanged?

Kailey works for the team and her life has been online gaming and coding and trying to stay out of the social scene. Her anxiety is the big reason that she stays to herself as well as her family which makes her feel that she is a failure and will amount to nothing unless she does what they say. Her interactions with Smitty have shown her that he is a gentleman that wants to see her she is a fantastic person. When he gives her the love and attention that she deserves, she falls hard for him but will she follow her feelings? Can she get over her fear of being with someone that is in the limelight all the time? When she finds out that Smitty has dyslexia, how will she help him? What will she do when Smitty's brother delivers some news that hits Smitty hard as well as his parents? Can she be as ballsy as Smitty?

I loved the way that they helped one another and almost in the same way. The chemistry was there but it took a while to get to the surface. This story is highly addictive and a definite must-read. Ballsy has laughs, struggles, strong friendships, and love. I fell in love with both Smitty and Kailey. I have read all the previous books in this series and Ballsy is my favourite one.

I have been a fan of the Breakers hockey Team books for awhile with there ups and downs and there triumphs there always there for each other friends and family and the newest member of that family is Kailey Henderson and all this big loud family is a bit much for some one suffering from such a burden of social anxiety a bundle of nerves on her best day so how did the quiet programmer get the attention of one of the largest and loudest members of the team Connor Smith.

Kailey is quiet, shy, social petrified of even simple conversation allow herself to take a job for a national hockey league this is way out of her comfort zone well her friend Oliver may have had something too do with that she needed a break from her family anyway her over critical father didn't help her anxiety disorder either. All she has to do pretend she's not petrified maybe make more friends and avoid the perfectly beautiful Connor because being with him means a relationship and she doesn't think she has what it takes to make things work hill just leave like the others.

Connor Smith other wise known as Smitty is truly smitten with Kailey and she can't stand him or so he thinks. He knows he's big and loud and not the prettiest player on the team but he just can't stay away maybe they can be friends but when Kailey finds out his secret it suddenly makes her see that they have allot in common they both struggle he thinks he's not that smart because of dyslexia and she thinks there's something wrong with her because she can't get past her anxiety but they both learn allot from each other and give each other the strength they need to deal with everyone else and the road blocks that family cause.

This was a funny sweet read Kailey is hilarious at times and fierce when she has to be. And Conner is swoon worthy he's so sweet and he knows how to bring out the best in Kailey not to mention there chemistry loved this book and all the side characters and I cant wait for Rafe's book.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book but also purchased a copy.

Ballsy is the fourth book in the Breakers Hockey series. It can be read as a stand alone, but there’s lots of references to previous relationships. Plus, they’re all amazing, so why would you not want to read them?! Smitty is known for being big, bold, and quick to laugh, but he’s stunned speechless when he meets Kailey. One to hate social interactions, and people in general, Kailey doesn’t know what to do with Smitty’s attention, except push him away. But when he doesn’t give up, can they prove to each other that love is worth the risk of being vulnerable?

Oh my goodness, this book was so dang good! One of those feel good, everything just goes right, swoon worthy, giddy happy dance books! One where love wins in the end and you cheer for it from the very beginning! Kailey and Smitty were simply fantastic. Kailey had so many triggers for her anxiety and she so badly just wanted to feel normal and fit in with her new friends. I loved that the hockey team had her back from the very beginning, and that a certain someone was able to burrow deep into her defenses and heart. Smitty is insanely sweet with Kailey. He feels like such a beast in comparison to her beauty, but all he does is look in her eyes and just sees her, takes care of her needs, and constantly puts her first. I just adore him. I love his silly and brash side, the one that captures attention, but I also loved his super vulnerable side that she keeps safe. Oh, so good! These two people felt like they were so imperfect and broken, but together, they were perfection. It wasn’t easy, but they could find peace and comfort and acceptance and love with one another. Oh gosh, I cried, but I think they were more happy tears than anything else. Finding acceptance, healing, and love are three major themes in this book, but so is family and having each other’s backs! I love this series and I loved this book!

I can't rate this book because TBH I read/read-skimmed it.

The thing is - Elise Faber characters have gone SO hard on the "tee hee I'm neurotic and broken!" so ok - not so much "tee hee" but ... like it's a good 90% of the book. One thing I do appreciate is it's not JUST the heroine now - the heroes have their own issues and insecurities.
But omfg I started thinking like "can they fucking say a sentence that has more than 10 words?!"

I really liked that the Brandon stuff worked out - Kailey and Connor/Smitty - what keeps me coming back is the character growth. Not just because the relationship gives them confidence - but they do it for/within themselves. The relationship/love/support is just the push/safe place to land that makes them brave enough to step out.

I do have to say - Smitty calling her "little bird" ... look - clearly I'm a ghoul but I did not find it cute or loving as a pet name. I found it distracting and weird/CUH-LEARLY it was a "not for me" thing -

I actually try NOT to "put myself in the place of every [heroine]" - but there are some things that are too far for me. Like if a dude started calling me "little bird "[slightly ironic even cuz other nicknames I've had] - but I'd be like "are .... are you fucking kidding me?"

ANYWAY. I do like the "girl group" support ... glad that although R was so upset about what happened like [WASN'T THAT A BLESSING IN DISGUISE/NOT ACTUALLY EVEN A DISGUISE SO MUCH AS A FLASHING NEON SIGN?!]

Anyway.
I'm not sure if I'd re-read this book.
[:X not sure how much of the 😒 was due to mood...]

But I'll definitely read other Elise Faber books.

Ballsy is the fourth book in the Breakers Hockey series by Elise Faber. I loved Smitty’s character in the earlier books and I was so excited to see his book. I was extremely surprised by how much better it was than I thought it would be! I really enjoyed the witty banter between the teammates and the continuing humor of the plant growing contest.
Kailey had problems “peopling” due to her anxiety causing her to freeze up. She avoided people as much as she could and stuck with her coding and online games. There she didn’t have to deal with anxiety because she was in her comfort zone. She was afraid to open up and trust again after her last relationship.
“He’d found her.
One look, and he’d known.
Quiet where he was loud.
Smart when he wasn’t…
Certainly, she was oblivious that she was… his.
But he’d known.”

Connor Smith “Smitty” had always felt like he was big, goofy, and not enough. He thought he was only good at hitting things and making people laugh. He has watched his teammates find happiness with their “one” and he wanted to find what they had. When he saw Kailey, he knew she was the one for him, but she wanted nothing to do with him. Can he convince her otherwise?
Smitty was always the prankster and joking around with his teammates in the previous books, so seeing him vulnerable and being serious was endearing. His experiences as a child gave him patience and understanding of Kailey and her anxiety. I loved how he was so considerate and focused on her and her needs. Kailey had taken the job with the Breakers and moved away from the pressure of her family. She wanted to improve and become better in social environments. Watching them both grow and realize they were perfect for each other was heartening. I have enjoyed every book in the series but this one was my favorite. Maybe because I loved seeing deeper into Smitty’s character and what was behind his facade. I would highly recommend this book if you like humor, hockey players, and romance.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Really good until about 50% then it was boring, as the they were madly in love and all their problems were sorted. Also not very well written about dyslexia and anxiety.

I really loved the beginning of this book, as Smitty She never calls him by real name and it’s weird.) and Kailey both have things that affect their day to day lives. Smitty is really dyslexic and struggles badly with reading, and Kailey as she suffers from a social phobia and severe anxiety. Kailey is so anxious that she can’t talk to Smitty at first or even look at him, she has no friends and no life outside of her computer games. So why halfway through the book is Smitty writing and sending texts to Kailey perfectly fine without any issues??? How is Kailey socialising and has friends and is fine?????? 😡😡😡 Make it make sense! Neither of them would suddenly recover, as obviously Smitty has dyslexia for life and Kailey just gets over her anxiety. She still struggles a tiny bit, but it’s nowhere near what it was at the beginning.

Apart from their struggles at the beginning of the book, nothing happens and it’s boring. It drags on and on. I’m really disappointed as I thought it was going to be really good. Sadly it wasn’t. Oh and Kailey’s dad who had treat her awfully all her life suddenly has a whole personality transplant and apologises. After years of mentally abusing her??? Nope! He wouldn’t have done that.

Could have been really good.

"Each book in this series is outstanding. Elise has a remarkable way of writing perfectly imperfect characters. Smitty & Kailey both have their own flaws. I can’t honestly say one is worse than the other, but what I can say is that they needed each other to realize they were both great people living life as best as they could.
Reading them come together as a couple first and then being each other’s champion made my heart soar. I love the conflict part in romance novels but when it came to these two I was praying that they didn’t go through any major upheavals. Without giving away something important in their story, I am happy to admit their relationship held strong and the conflict when it happened had me cheering loudly. Made this book just that little bit more special. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book." ~Sharon

"Each book in the Breaker’s series seems to get better. Smitty and Kailey, will for sure pull at your hear strings. They were two totally different people that just seemed to work well with one another. Kailey is incredibly shy and suffers from extreme anxiety. Connor, the total alpha male, knows from the first time he lays eyes on her, she’s going to be his.

Ballsy was such an enjoyable story, two loving people that beat back their demons to find their HEA." ~Stephanie

Ok.

The book starts off with the H noticing the h & recognizing her as
his soulmate. The first words she says to him are "not interested."
She's pretty much allergic to anything sports related but her friend
talked her into working as support staff for their hockey team. The
H is Conner Smith, defenseman for the Breakers.

"I’d spent a week studying her every chance I could steal a look.
And I was ready.
To convince her to give me a chance.
Yeah, I was big and clumsy and not the prettiest to look at. But I was great at making people laugh, & I was loyal & I was strong.
I could be a good partner.
I could.
I just needed to prove to Kailey that despite my big and unwieldy
body, my tendency to be a bit of a loose cannon on the ice, that I
could be good for her."

Kailey, 27 years old, was socially awkward and had trouble taking
to people. "Still paused too often, avoided eye contact, felt
uncomfortable in my own skin."

The H was dyslexic & believed he was stupid. Both the main characters were insecure and had negative images of themselves.

Overall, it was a good story. I wouldn't re-read it but it is good enough to read once. I don't plan on continuing with this series.

A wonderful story of Conner and Kailey finding their perfect soulmate. Conner is loud and full of fun but when he sees new Breakers employee Kailey, something strikes him and he knows that he not only needs to meet her, but he needs to be with her. Kailey deals with social anxiety and pushes Conner away at first but over time and by that I mean, Conner giving her time to respond and react, Kailey finds her voice with Conner.
This was a great story of two people with their own private issues and inner dilemmas opening to each other and finding that with the right response, their issues don't seem quite as bad. I loved the easy way Kailey took to helping Conner with his online test and Conner took the time to not just listen to Kailey, but the patience to wait for her to respond.
This love story was a true representation of "there is someone for everyone" as these two overcame internal struggles to love each other not despite these issues but because of them.
Can't wait for the next Breakers story!

Love does not have to be about finding the perfect person. Connor Smith (professional hockey player) bumps into Kaily Henderson (who works as a software developer) at the hockey stadium he plays at and instantly is attracted to her. Yet, Kaily is dealing with anxiety so she is put-off by Connor's flirtatious behavior toward her. He is perplexed as to why she avoids his presence. As the story progresses, he learns there is more to Kaily as to the reasons why she is the way she is. Also, there is more to Connor as Kaily becomes acquainted with him, too. Kaily and Connor know and understand that they are far from perfect but they understand and are sensitive to each other. This story is a profoundly uplifting and emotional novel to read about the struggles individuals have with anxiety and dyslexia. What I found most uplifting was how Connor and Kaily positively speak and guide each other so that nobody stands in their way to persevere. The story line is realistic, hopeful, and inspiring.

Smitty sees Kailey and instantly knows that this is the woman that he is going to marry. The feeling, however, was not mutual. Smitty and Kailey are both characters that have parts of themselves that they see as insufficient. These don’t define who they are, but it does affect the way in which they act around people and how they treat their lives. Elise Faber does these two justice in all aspects of this book. They have two completely different ends of the spectrums of issues, but they each find that when they are together, they boost a strength that they didn’t realize they possessed.

Smitty give Kailey the strength to stand up the people who haven’t been supportive of her, and Kailey gives Smitty the strength to put forth some truth that he has been hiding. These two were perfect for each other, and it is always snice to get to check in with previous couples as well as get the sneak peek into the next book.

This is the fourth book in this incredible series, and this one is my favourite. This is Connor / Smitty, and Kailey’s journey, and what an emotional roller coaster this is. Kailey has had a tough life and is dealing with social anxiety, while Smitty is a sexy hockey player, who is brash, charming, loud, and ballsy, while having a vulnerable side. From the moment Smitty sees Kailey he is hooked and determined to win her over, no matter how many times she knocks him back, and resists him at every turn. Smitty has his own set of issues, and the support and strength they give each other is something to behold. This is a beautifully written story which is fun, heartwarming, emotional, and with humor, witty banter, family, healing, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining and swoony page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

5 ⭐️ tender, sweet romance ❤️ worth reading over and over

Smitty finally gets his book. He big and built to break things. He plays D for the Breakers which is perfect for him. He lightens the mood in the locker room with his antics. No one knows his real self. Kailey can’t string two words together without becoming anxious and wanting to flee. Her insecurities in public places and socializing make it hard to make new friends. Gaming and reading romance books are her thing. How could someone like Connor Smith want to be with her? These two are perfect together. Bringing out the best, providing much needed support and encouragement.

I don’t see too many leading men in today’s romance stories that aren’t all alpha, exhibiting insecurities like Conner Smith. And fewer stories with women who lift them up like Kailey does. Elise Faber has written a tender, heart felt romance worth reading again and again. Ballsy is wonderful addition to the Breaker’s series.

Smitty is a force both on and off the ice. He is outgoing, bold and totally enchanted by Kailey who wants nothing to do with him but rather than being deterred by her determination to keep a distance between them it only makes him want her more. Once he finds out the reason, he will do whatever he can to make thing easier for her and that he wants her just the way she is.

Kailey struggles in social situation and is only comfortable when it comes to those she knows well. She may be attracted to Smitty but she doesn’t believe that with her issues she could ever be part of his life, but she is about to find out she couldn’t be more wrong.

Although Smitty and Kailey have very different personalities and lifestyles they balance each other to perfection. They both have turmoil from their past to conquer but they love each other for who they are which is what makes their relationship so special.

Elise Faber has the best writing style. She tells the story as if the characters were really talking to you. I love how she gets inside the head of each character.

Smitty may be one of my favorites of hers. He's a big vulnerable, loving man. You can tell he has a thing for Kailey when we first meet the characters, but it's the way he treats her that makes his story so real. A big hockey star who has a reading disability that may have caused issues for him. Until he realizes Kailey has a similar issue with her own fears. The talk they have felt so real. Two people who didn't realize they needed each other to get better.

Kailey had this fear of speaking her mind in front of people. But her life changes when Smitty talks to her and listens to her.

I love the way the two characters grew to love each other. Again, it felt so real. Elise's characters have fun, are sexy, and you fall in love with them immediately!

Kailey Henderson has always suffered from crippling anxiety, made worse by her emotionally and verbally abusive father. Her happy place is behind her computer writing code or playing games with faceless online 'friends'. Behind that facade she can be anything she wants. Connor Smith (Smitty) is the big, loud, brash hockey player with a secret he keeps buried and an instant attraction for the curvy brunette with the beautiful eyes. How can he win over the shy "little bird" as he calls her, when he's so big and scary? But as Smitty realizes that less is more and aims to build a friendship with Kailey, she surprises him, by seeing the real Smitty behind the face that he puts on for the world. Having someone in her corner, makes Kailey realize that she is worthy of love, of passion, of friendships and she can begin to soar. The chemistry between Kailey and Smitty is intense and the heat sizzles in the bedroom or the locker room or ...... Great series.

This is book #4 in the series. You don't need to read the previous books beforehand.

In this book we have Kailey Henderson, she has anxiety on just about everything. She's very shy / quiet, she prefers the gaming world, working in code rather than with people.

Connor Smith "Smitty" is a hue bear of a man.  He seems like a ginormous hockey player, and even taller on his skates. He's always had Dyslexia, that has been something he's tried to conquer but has never seem to over come that. He's worked hard for where he's gotten in his hockey career.

Smitty & Kailey seem like opposites on paper, but, both have issues they are working on. Both have families that don't seem to understand them. Smitty makes Kailey feel comfortable and she can actually talk in front on him and won't freeze up. Smitty feels that she's understanding of him and his reading difficulties.

I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
