Harper Harlow-Monroe has everything she’s ever wanted. She has a husband she loves, a best friend who is only irritating fifty percent of the time, and a daughter who refuses to be “normal.” So, basically, she has it all. Then the unthinkable happens. During an afternoon picnic with her husband and daughter, Harper’s yard is flooded with ghosts … right as five bodies float by on the river. Harper’s daughter Poe is finally in the thick of things because she’s the only one who can communicate with the ghostly newcomers. Worried, Harper calls in her friends Rowan, Maddie, and Ivy. Together, the foursome is going to figure out what’s haunting Poe … one way or another. There’s not much to be found regarding the victims. They were adventurers, making a name for themselves finding treasure at the bottoms of oceans and lakes. They were hired by a local billionaire, but nobody can figure out why and the man in question is being cagey. Harper always knew her daughter would turn out gifted. The reality is different from the fantasy, however. Poe’s magic is already strong, and when she gets a little encouragement from her friends, things begin to spiral. It’s an all-hands-on-deck situation for this battle, and only the strong will survive.
The gang get together to deal with ghosts trapped in a lake.
The lake by Harper and Jared's house erupts one day with ghosts rushing towards the shore, when they dissipate there are five dead bodies floating in the water. Worse still the ghosts seem to be heading towards Harker's little girl Poe. Harper and Jared had been enjoying their first family picnic of the season (with Zander and Sean & kids) so the adults quickly hustle the children away before they can see the bodies. Harper is extremely concerned about the fact that the ghosts seem to target Poe so she calls Ivy & Jack Morgan who agree it's a situation that needs looking into, next up is Maddie Graves who agrees to travel up with the Harkers next day and together with Rowan and Quinn Davenport the group will work on trying to find out what it is the ghosts want with Poe................... Almost took a star off as an red up with Zander body shaking Jared all the time about his "large ugly nipples" it would be allowed with a female character and has been going on for six years now, you think a gay man who grew up ostracized for his lifestyle would know better...
Yes!!! This mash-up series is so working for me. It’s Harper turn to host this mystery. I love how they all come together so well, everyone meshes even the kids. A great mystery to solve it was a really intriguing one.
I liked the story and the setting, but didn’t really warm up to the characters yet. That may change if I read the other series, for now I liked the book but it’s not on top of my favourites list.
This is the second installment in the Return to Magic Cozy Mystery series and there are three more that will complete it.
In each book, so far, we are learning about each witch’s child and how they are coming into their special “abilities”. The first book “Older, Wiser, Witchier”, we learned about Ivy Morgan-Harker’s daughter, Olive’s abilities.
In this book Harper Harlow-Monroe’s daughter, Poe is the one showing signs she is more than just a regular girl. She can hear ghosts voices before they visibly appear and she also shares her mother and father’s ability of bringing her imagination to life in a certain way that only a magical being can.
Next book is “Imaginary Fiends” and my guess is that the daughter that will be highlighted is either “Olly” (Olivia who is Maddie Graves Winters’s daughter) or Lana (Rowan Gray-Davenport’s daughter). I’m betting the focus is on Lana because she’s one of the best friends of the trio of the girls: Olive, Poe, and Lana. Plus, Olly is still a toddler. I rarely read the synopsis of a story when it’s after the first book in a series, so I don’t know what book 3 is about.
So anyway…
I enjoyed this read and it had me interested at every page click. I didn’t want to put the book down, but had to in order to get some sleep.
I like magic and supernatural. In Harper Hart’s stories, there is ALWAYS at least one character with a sassy mouth that spews forth snark and that person is usually female and the main character. She is strong willed and doesn’t like to be told what to do. Sometimes it’s annoying because the attitude borders on childlike tantrum.
I’m usually left wondering what will happen next though and I like that. It’s the excited type of anticipation and not the anxious type that makes me sick to my stomach and reading ahead to see what happens just to cut the tension in my chest.
You can also expect romance because Harper Hart likes it that way. I enjoy that aspect too. There’s always a happy ending.
Next is Book 3 of 5, “Imaginary Fiends.” Just an FYI: each witch I noted above has their own series of you feel inclined to learn about each individual lady. I’ve read all of Ivy Morgan’s and Harper Harlow’s. I have not read Maddie Graves or Rowan Gray’s series yet.
Love the new series here that involves several of our main girls with their paranormal abilities. The struggles they have with their kids resonate, tho not in the same way as for normal parents. The way the kids are developing abilities similar to their mothers creates headaches for their parents. Love Olive, she’s a kid who can definitely hold her own, they way she bonds with the reclusive Poe is a delight. The way the girls all work together to enhance each other’s abilities makes them an unstoppable force and I’m loving the banter between all the couples. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, a delightful quick read.
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. And outstanding cast of characters and a combined storyline. This series is a combined series of four characters long running series of books before unique and intriguing magical female characters. Harper Ivy Maddie and Rowan. Each one had multiple books in their own series and had mini crossovers during their run. Now the forehead combined into one series and get to go on adventures together. Their families have grown and they have children and new adventures of weight. This is the second book in the combine series and it was extraordinary. Check it out
I'm absolutely enjoying this new series immensely!
Wasn't too sure about this new series at first, but now I'm finding it fantastic. I'm even starting to read the series that go along with Maddie, Ivy, and Rowan. But my favorite character is still Harper. Oh, of course, Zander. I really liked this story line. Zander seems to have mellowed and matured in this new series. Although, he can still be a huge diva! I'm also enjoying the children of the couples. They sure have interesting personalities! Another great series! Thank you, Lily Harper Hart!!!!
Come and join the group of friends who are ghost hunters, witches and seers trying to solve a mystery of some dead adventurer’s who wash up on their river shore. Along with this our friends have to deal with their children becoming like their mothers with similar gifts. Join the fun and the fright as these friends try to solve a mystery and raise their families correctly at the same time. I recommend this book and its whole series to anyone who loves cozy mysteries.
I love how this series has taken for great paranormal cozy mystery series and created 1 with four amazingly strong female leads who are paranormal and best of friends. This book was a multi family affair where the children were just as much a part of the series as the women and thief husbands. Excellent mystery with a surprising ending after endless surprises throughout the story. Love it and love the characters.
This is a new series with past characters. Each couple has their own series so it may be a little hard to follow at times if you haven’t read the other series. That being said the author does a fantastic job with explaining past relationships and points from the previous books so it can be understandable. Ok other than that point, these are great books and I love the comrades in arms relationships and the family and love that flows through. Highly recommended
It's so much fun to see these characters all grown up and navigating kids.
Rowan and Quinn have joined the crew in whisper cove, as have her uncle and dad. This story focuses on Harper, Jared, and Poe with ivy and Jack mixed in. Poe is showing signs of following in her mom's footsteps. Can her parents and friends protect the next generation of magic?
I love Ms. Harts books. This is the second in this series & I can’t wait for the next one. I am still confused about which kid belongs to who sometimes but that’s a small thing. If you love strong women, snark, sarcasm, magic and true love, you will love this book!
This combination of characters is turning out to really be great. The interaction between the groups adds to the story, and the additions of the children enhances that interaction. The story is both exciting and cleverly written. A great read with some fun characters and a superb plot.
Every book she writes is intriguing. I’ve read every book, every series. This new series entwines characters from 4 series, their lives with growing families. The children are now incorporated and their personalities are fabulous.
As the four lovely ladies of Magic gather to solve a problem, Poe and Olive have started to come into their gifts early in childhood. While their mothers search for answers, the children are holding answers no one is aware about.
Lovely reunion of four favorite characters. Enjoy!
New Ghosts. old Tricks (A Return to Magic Mystery book 2). By Lily Harper Heart
This is another winner. I love this Author as she has a great imagination and has great characters in every book. I highly recommend all her books and different series. They are all great. Diana Romano
Book 2 mostly centers around Harper's family and in her town, but all 4 of the ladies were involved the the mystery of several murders. There isn't a lot of danger, mostly research and investigation, but dream walking and ghosts, too. And 2 of the children are developing talents akin to their mothers'. Highly entertaining.
I enjoyed this book. It is fun to have all the different characters from different storylines getting together to solve mysterious. The characters are still developing as their growing families are included. I can't wait to see how this series progresses.
While you can read this as a s yr standalone it is so much richer when having read all of LHH's prior books. Seeing these characters together and in another stage in their life is fun. This book had a mystery with a twist and the end made you think.
Great book. The storyline was interesting and engaging. It’s fun seeing all of the familiar characters interact with one another. The mystery was well done and there was plenty of snark. Looking forward to the next one.
This book was quite enjoyable and a little different than the normal. I liked the happy ending. I found Olive a pain, but pretty realistic lol. Looking forward to the next book.
It was nice visiting with old friends. Enjoyed the story, especially since it was a story about doing your best, and hoping it all works out. I figured out the happy ending, before I read about it, but it was written really well.
A good read in this new series with already established characters from 4 other storylines by this author. All the characters are interesting and adding their children into the mix just enhances this storyline.
Wow what a great story I love when she brings characters from other stories into 1 story. And it's great to see the children now are coming into their room I love all her books
I love having kids involved, it’s makes life real. I love the attitudes and I want two of each. Lol this is turning into one of my favorite series. Keep up the good work for I love to laugh and cry.
With mixed magical marriages comes magical children - and they don’t disappoint. The kids magic is growing, and while similar to their parents, there are some different twists and turns. Looking forward to what’s next.
An interesting mystery with the three solving an unusual case. My first encounter with the children. Ivy, Maddie and Harlow have their children and spouses. A large family now!
Ghosts in the water, bodies washing up. The ladies gather again. The next generation is a lot of fun, too. The little girls are adorable, and coming into their own powers.
Harper and her daughter Poe finds dead bodies by the water near their house and the ghosts are talking to Poe, Harper finds herself terrified for her daughter and friends.
