In this Regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, a bitter Scotsman and a French lass find themselves running from a painful past and toward a shared future…if only they knew.
Ian MacDrummond is no more. He died three years ago off the Scottish Coast. In his stead, IAN STEWART now stands upon the deck of the Chevalier Noire, a French privateer. Tasked with a most urgent mission, Ian comes to realize that his past may not be as dead as he had thought—or hoped!—when his path crosses that of a young woman.
NOELLE CLEMENT had been happy once. Happy and in love. Now, all is lost—even her precious child. Unwilling to give up, Noelle accepts aid from the Duret family, who place a rather taciturn Scotsman at her side. Still, before long, Noelle comes to see that they have more in common than she thought.
As they rush to unearth the whereabouts of Noelle’s daughter, an old enemy closes in on them, threatening not only their tentative bond but also those they hold dear. In the end, it all comes down to one question: how far are we willing to go for those we love?
An epic love story that spans across an entire series. Ensure that you have a good cup of tea, something to nibble on and perhaps a box of tissues at hand before you dive into this slow-burn Regency romance full of enchanting moments between Sarah and Keir, the little wisp and the highlander.
4.25 Stars Ian MacDrummond is no more. He died three years ago when he fell from a cliff on the Scottish Coast. In his stead, Ian Stewart now stands upon the deck of the Chevalier Noire, a French privateer. Noelle Clement had been happy married until her beloved Etienne was swept overboard in a storm. Now her precious child has been taken. The sixth book in the Highland tales section of Love’s second chance & whilst it could easily be read on its own it does bring together characters from the earlier books & ties up everything beautifully & the epilogue gives us a glimpse into the future. I love it when an author redeems a character & Ian was certainly redeemed. I love how he changed from the almost unspeaking dour Scot to a loving laughing man. Noelle is such a strong woman, who had suffered much but came out the other side stronger & willing to start over. An action packed book which kept me turning the pages & I was routing for the pair to find their HEA. A captivating read My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Noe'le Cle'ment has had much suffering and pain since her husband was lost at sea. One man is responsible, Captain Dubois. Ian Stewart helped save Noe'le once and comes to her aid when her child is stolen by Dubois. Ian carries pain and unhappiness from his past. By helping Noe'le, she helps him find closure by returning to Scotland. It's a perilous journey to find the child, with more death and destruction from Dubois, but a chance for a young mother and a Scotsman to find love with each other. This book carries a dark side of violence against women for possible triggers. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
So much story to enjoy. A recent widow lady is abused and then the child from that encounter is taken. That is not all oh now her home is set on fire and she is taken captive by the villain who took her child and she is suffering with major injuries. She is rescued and now with the help of a pirate she is looking for her daughter. All this happen before the second chapter and the action does not let up. The book is a bit of a roller coaster when it comes to emotions but it is so outstanding it was a delight to read. This is complex piece with many layers but it is a work of art that I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I received an advance copy of this book in return for a review. I have read this series from Book 1, the series before this and any other tale linked with this journey, so I'm very familiar with these characters. Our lovers of the piece are Noèle and Ian. Noèle is the ultimate tragic heroine, husband drowned, baby kidnapped and so many other horrors in between. Ian was the villain of the piece in Moira and Cormag's story yet I can't help but vouch for him and his happy ending. Now onto our tale. We begin our story as Ian takes over the Captaincy of the Chevalier Noir while Henri Duret chases his own happily ever after (see Scorned and Craved). What is Ian's mission? To find and rescue Noèle's baby daughter Ophélie. Our premise is straight-forward and dramatic yes? Well, nothing is ever straight-forward in a romance as we know. The two star crossed lovers will face many bumps in the road on the way to happiness. That's all I'll say on the plot. So why give this book 5 stars? If you put the high levels of melodrama to the side, what we have here is actually a beautifully told love story. Our situation is wholly unrealistic but what I adore about Bree Wolf's stories is that despite the unbelievable circumstances, we can connect with these characters on some level. Noéle has lost so much and just struggles to keep it together. Ian has a deep trauma he needs to overcome. These are things we can relate to as a reader. We all have problems we need to overcome and somehow even in the sometimes overly heightened situations in these tales we believe them anyway. We can feel what these characters feel and it takes a great writer to do that. This book had some teary moments and as a mother I could relate to the fear Noéle feels for her Ophélie. I also have to admire Ian. He had to go through a hell of a lot to let down his barriers. Historical Romance always gets dismissed as a genre generalised as bodice rippers (Bridgerton comes to mind) but Bree's stories aren't those kind of novels and even in the surreal sub plots there's a lot of hidden realism if your willing to look. Respect the Historical Romance Genre people. Finally can I get some love for the wolf. Literally one of my favourite characters. Also the epilogue made me squeal a little so I impatiently wait for our next journey.
So many threads of past stories come together in this book to give Ian MacDrummond a happy ever after. Ian was believed to have died in a fall off a cliff in Banished and Welcomed but he survived the fall and was saved by a fishing boat eventually meeting the Duret family and becoming a sailor on their ships. So after that fall three years before off the Scottish coast Ian MacDrummond died and Ian Stewart has a new life in France on a French privateer.
The threads of this story also connect to Scorned and Craved where Ian helps his friend Henri Duret rescue Lady Juliet Edwards from a ruthless abusive opponent Capitaine Dubois, who had kidnapped her off of another vessel. When they rescued her they also discovered another woman he had kidnapped who was badly burned. They realized she was Noelle Clement the widow of one of their ship mates. No one had known that she had a baby fathered by the ruthless Capitaine Dubois.
This story picks up where Dubois had stolen the baby girl and now Ian and Noelle are trying to discover where he had hidden her so that she can be returned to her mother. You could read this story as a stand alone but I actually went back to reread the previous stories to really understand what was happening.
NOELLE CLEMENT was shattered by her experience with Dubois leaving her with nightmares but she will realize she is much stronger than she knew as she fights to get her baby back. She also sees pain reflected in Ian's eyes and wants to encourage him to unburden himself to share his past with her.
Ian has closed himself off from the pain of rejection from his wife Maggie and forsaking his two children letting them all believe he was dead. He battles against making the same mistake with Noelle who he believes is still in love with her dead husband.
This story is filled with lots of drama as they work together to find the missing baby. They will face past enemies as well as their own pasts before the conclusion of this book.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
Love is the paradoxical emotion that makes one both strong and vulnerable.
Ian is living his second life, but his first one still calls to him. Then he meets Noele.
Noele is a survivor who is trying to make sense of her life. Then she meets Ian.
Like all of her other character-driven novels, Bree Wolf has again written a tender and insightful look at love and second chances after traumatic loss. Wronged and Respected delves into the hurts and hopes of rejected love and found love.
I really liked not only the story, but also the lead characters in this stand-alone book. The story had some twists and the characters were flawed but redeemable. I also enjoyed revisiting the a number of characters from previous books.
I did have two negative observations. First, there was too much introspection for my taste, and the epilogue (which takes place two decades later) was more of a tease for the next book in the series.
All in all, this is a good read that is suitable for any age romance reader.
Content 411: This book is clean. Other than kissing, it does not contain any swearing or sex.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
Wronged and Respected by Bree Wolf is a Regency romance. Noéle Clément was a happy wife until her husband Έtienne was washed overboard on a French privateer. Ian MacDrummond has reinvented himself as Ian Stewart after leaving Scotland and his family behind. He thought they would be better off without him.
Noéle was disgraced by an enemy of her husband and had a daughter. Now the child’s father Dubois comes back. He takes her daughter, beats her and sets her home on fire. She stayed with her friends with to recover her injuries. Three months later she is ready to find her daughter and bring her back.
The voyage to find her daughter is being captained by Ian Stewart who is determined to find Ophélie for her. Together they search for her and in their time alone, they find each other. Ian needs to make peace with his Scottish family before he and Noéle can be happy together.
I found this book to be very entertaining although this genre is not really my favorite. The novel was entertaining and exciting at the same time.
This is part of the Love's Second Chance: Highland Tales series. Ms. Wolf is a very talented author and I always enjoy reading her books. She does an excellent job of bringing the story and the characters to life and this was no exception. Noelle once had a happy life, but that soon ended when her husband was lost at sea and then she endured a horrific experience. Abused, raped, and left to die, her past experiences haunt her. As if that were not enough, her abuser has now kidnapped her baby, and Ian has volunteered to help find Noelle's daughter. Ian has also lost his family, so he values the importance of reuniting Noelle with her daughter. They travel together in search of the child. Both have suffered pain and loss in their lives, and they now have a second chance at happiness and love. The story is filled with adventure, danger, intrigue, and romance and pulled me in right from the start. I was completely captivated till the end. The storyline flowed smoothly and the plot twists kept me glued till the end. This was an emotional, heartwarming story and I am glad to have had the opportunity to read it. I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This is no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Noele lived in fear and loneliness after Etienne’s death and the monster she feared the most stole the only thing that gave her life purpose after her husband’s death, her baby girl, Ophelie.
Ian Stewart (McDrummond) had done some things in his his past that he could not forgive himself for and they were done out of anger and jealousy. He had fallen in love and married a woman who could never love him back and it left him feeling alone and unloved. Then he met Noele and their journey to healing their hearts began slowly. Ian agreed to help Noele find her baby and risked his own life in doing so but the risk was worth it because it gave him back purpose.
I was so excited that this story was about Ian. He certainly deserved a happy ending and Noele’s story did as well. She suffered so much when she lost her first husband and her baby. Bree Wolf brought these two broken hearts together and created a story that is not easily forgotten. She is a gifted story teller and I have yet to be disappointed.
I received an ARC copy of this book and have given my honest opinion.
This book gave me all the feels: from sorrow to joy!
I'm so glad Ian finally found happiness and accepted love into his life; he definitely deserves it! After living so many years with unrequited love and anger, to then trying to distance himself from forming attachments, he was able to accept that the heart can change and love again.
Same goes for Noele. She had gone to hell and back against a villainous pirate. And now that she succeeded in retrieving her daughter and seeing her safely within her arms, Noele could listen to her own heart and find love with another.
Ian and Noele's story truly was a great edition to the Love's Second Chance: Highland Tales series! I love seeing characters from the other stories interact with the main characters of each story; it's like a fictional family reunion.
I can't wait to see what more stories Bree Wolf has in store for the children; I can anticipate more stories forming!
*I received this book free as an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.*
The story line is interesting, however I found myself getting bored with the repetition of the same emotional discussions that were in a never ending circle!
Also, for a book in English the word choices are frequently incorrect as if it had been translated from another language. My OCD with the odd choice of words and missing words made me put the book down. I read this book after reading its predecessor, and it seems that this is the author's style.
For the reasons above I kept 1 star in the wings for later. I feel I need a break in authors before I come back to read the next in the series.
I give hearty kudos for writing a good story with attention to the period, and language used by different characters and colorful situations. Descriptive details bring the story into high definition and brilliant color in my mind! Heaven knows I could not accomplish this literary work of art! Bree has birthed a series of literary children to entertain us all. Brava! Well done!
Noelle Clement is a widow who has been raped, beaten, tormented, and now her daughter has been kidnapped by the man who abused her. With her home burnt to the ground, she accepts help from the Duret family who charge Ian Stewart with the task of finding her baby. Noelle insists on boarding the ship, the Chevalier Noire, to find her daughter, joining Ian and the crew. At first Ian is distant, but Noelle sees a hurting man with secrets and attempts to befriend and understand him. Lots of challenges and twists and turns as the Chevalier Noire travels in search of Noelle's baby. Will they find the baby in time? Will Ian find his family? Will he share his secrets with Noelle? What will become of their growing feelings towards each other? A riveting story that is action-packed from start to finish! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
The 1st I read of the series and now will definitely read the previous books. The story and characters are very compelling. This is Noele story, a young widow, raped and now has a beautiful daughter. Then her daughter is kidnapped and Noele is left for dead, but a mother love knows no bound and when her daughter is taken she will do anything to get her back. Enlisting the aid of Ian, a friend of her family they together search for her daughter. The story has a story within about the mysterious Ian. A story of learning to trust, never giving up, a chance of 2nd love, I would suggest read the previous books, which will fill in the few missing pieces, but as I stated I read as a standalone and enjoyed the story. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #WrongedRespectedTheGentlemansValiantWife #WolfPublishing
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
cw: rape, kidnapping
This one should've had a content warning in the beginning. If I knew that this have recollections of experienced rape and kidnapping of a baby as introduction, I wouldn't request it. I am so triggered after reading the prologue and it took me days to even continue reading because I am not ready to read and even attempt to think about what the third act conflict might be (which I'm right about what it is and I hated that I'm right). I was not having a good time reading this book and it sucks because I generally loved the author's writing style and her ways of telling a story to the readers from what I have read from her so far, but the content and how the book started really made me not okay and thus, affected my reading enjoyment. And this is why we need content warnings at the beginning of the book.
The story begins with Noelle Clement and the tragedy she faces when her daughter is stolen from her. She accepts support from the Duret family to find her daughter, entrusting Ian Stewart, a rather taciturn Scotsman, to help her in her journey. Together, they face an enemy who will threaten the relationship that builds between them. Not having read previous books in this series, I came into the story quite unaware of past characters. However, I did find it easy to pick up this sixth book in the series. It was lovely to see both Ian and Noelle who have suffered significantly in their past, find joy together in their relationship. This book was action packed and full of emotion. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC of "Wronged and Respected" written by the fabulous Bree Wolf. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Noele Clemont has been through more than most people's share of tragedies. Her husband has died, she has been sexually abused, left to burn to die, but most distressing is that her abuser has now kidnapped her baby daughter. Ian Stewart, nee Ian McDrummond, has volunteered with the task of finding Noele's infant. Having lost his own family, he knows the necessity and urgency of finding this little girl. Together, they travel and seek out answers to where this baby is. This is an action packed story, full of self discovery as well as learning that running away from our problems is not the solution to having peace in our lives. Absolutely fascinating story!
Wronged and Respected is a spellbinding adventure with romance, action, and a surprising link to a previous book in the Love’s Second Chance Series: Highland Tales. It’s a heartwarming story with forgiveness and unexpected love. I so enjoyed seeing Noele find happiness after all of the tragedy in her life. Ian’s story of loss and the resolution he found after leaving his past behind was my favorite part of the book. It’s so heartwarming to see how the Duret family comes together when someone is in need. It was good to catch up with all that is happening with the previous Duret family characters who have been in previous books. This is another charming and romantic love story that I highly recommend.
5 Stars I received a free copy of the regency romance Wronged and Respected: The Gentleman’s Valiant Wife by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely. A well-crafted story containing danger, suspense, violence, second chances, and healing having a touch of the mystic. Bree Woolf tells the often intense and ever-changing story of French Privateer Henri Duret’s taciturn Scottish first mate Ian Stewart aka MacDrummond and his wolf companion, who is trusted and respected by his adopted family, is tasked with the mission to protector the widowed and recently abused Noèle Clément while locating and rescuing her infant daughter Ophélie. Noèle chips away at his walls causing him to face his tragic past in the hope of a happy future.
I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Bree Wolf has been hit or miss for me and this was a miss. This is not the light hearted book I typically expect in this genre. The book starts with a rape scene and kidnapping. Noele spends most of the book crying and honestly is kinda boring. Ian has a mysterious past. I haven't read the previous books but if he is in them then I wouldn't have bothered. In this book aside from his past, he is a dull guy. Doesn't let anyone get close to him, his past is a mystery, but he will help our damsel in distress. This took a relatively long time for me to finish and I was just happy I got through it. 2.5 to 3 stars
I have enjoyed all the books in this series and this one did not disappoint.
It is a story of redemption, forgiveness and coming full circle.
The main characters both suffer from past pains. One from another’s cruel hand, the other by his own making. Each felt alone and unloved until they find it.
I would suggest reading the other books in the series to see the other characters mentioned and their own journey…but each can be read as a stand alone.
I look forward to reading the next generation’s story that this book eluded to.
Trigger warning : in the plot there is a character that is evil personified and the author handles such with tact (killing, violent temper striking or implied rape)
Noble Clement suffered at the hands of a monster, who now has her child. She will not let him win.
With the help of the Duret family and a man not known to her, Ian Stewart, she'll get her daughter back and so much more. Ian Stewart, a Scott, rescued from the sea along with Wolf companion are in the employ of the Durets. He has vowed to find and rescue the child and protect them both, even if it means giving up his life to save them. Bree Wolf paints a beautiful pictures of life out on the sea with the wind and waves. She also has a way of a glimpse into the minds and hearts of these characters and their friends and family. I am sure you'll enjoy this wonderful story.
This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I enjoy her writing style as well as her attention to details that bring her stories to life. This book is no different. This is a well written story that is hard to put down and kept me engaged to the end. A story where the past and present come together and unexpected. What happens with these characters you don't want to miss. I enjoyed watching their growth and chemistry throught out. They are connectable and added so much to the story. I had no problem picturing myself in their world and they had me coming back for more. This is a great read for sure. I highly recommend this book and this author.
Ian MacDrummond tumbled to his death years ago fighting a wolf that was attacking his daughter. His body nor the wolf was ever found as they fell off the cliff into the sea. Ian Stewart is a Scot who sails for the French privateer. Noelle Clement is the widow of a sailor of three Duret family. Being left alone and vulnerable she falls prey to Captain Dubois a rival to the Duret family but not a privateer, a pirate. His brother has always been attracted to Noelle and when she resists his attentions, he attacks her. Conceiving a child she tries to hide from Dubois but he beats her, takes her daughter and sets her house on fire. Ian Stewart and the Duret family rescue her and help rescue her daughter.
This was a very emotional book. There were so many sad memories and sadness happening in Noele’s life I felt every bit of that sadness, that is how good of an author Bree Wolf is. Ian had sadness in his past, but he was determined to find and save Noele’s daughter. Noele and Ian formed a bond of friendship and love and there was a happy ending, but I just felt sad and upset for most of the book. That is the only reason I am giving it four stars. The writing was amazing, if it was not, I don’t think I would have felt so many emotions. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest opinion.
Will Noele and Ian have a second chance of happiness as they both have had so much happen in their past. Noele lost her husband who went overboard in a storm at sea. Them she was abused by an evil man who stole her baby Ophelie. Ian’s love for his wife was not returned which left him so angry that when he fell off a cliff, he knew he would never return to her and his children. Now it is he, a French privateer, and his wolf until Noele entered the picture. With the help of Ian, will they find her baby or will one of them end up dead trying. The story was filled with action that kept you on the edge of your seat not wanting to put the book down.
Ian and Noelle were good for each other. Both suffering painful pasts, Ian becomes a hero her when he helps find her kidnapped daughter. I loved his pet wolf who had a big part in the rescue. Ian must confront his past, the wife that never loved him and the children who thinks he died. He finds his wife remarried and the children happy to see him. He loves Noelle and wants to be with her. Being legally dead he has a chance at a new life with her. I would have liked to see Ian divorced even though it would have caused a problem for his remarried wife. Ian and Noelle are determined to have a life together.
Although this book could be standalone, I advise the reader to treat themselves to Banished & Welcomed The Lairds Reckless Wife. I will never read a book by Bree Wolf without noting the depth of her characters. I believe she is one of the best in the author's field. She is also a master of redeeming villainess characters. I have enjoyed this series and have looked forward to the story of Ian. The story was so well crafted with an intriguing love story, an exhilarating plot, and a beautifully executed theme. Also, the connection the story has to previous books is a delightful reunion. I suggest reading all of the series as they are excellent.
